Ok I know this says it's Sunday but it's actually just like twenty minutes past midnight so this is still Saturday for me okay. Also, I still had to write this while I had writer's block (is there, like, a cure for writer's block because there totally should be. It sucks).
And don't worry, I'm keeping my promise of two chapters this week. Expect a chapter later today (Sunday), but please still review this one. I'm not sure how long it is, but it's long enough I hope.
ANYWHALE ON WITH THE STORY.
Leo's POV
'Oh. My. Gods.'
'Dude, you owe me ten bucks.'
'I would kill for a camera right now.'
Opening half an eye revealed that the engine room was now crowded. All the demigods on the ship had, by the looks of it, barged in, and just started to stare at me. I guessed it was already morning, but they didn't all need to come wake me up.
'Hey guys,' I muttered, rubbing an arm sleepily across my eyes in an attempt to wake myself up. It didn't work. 'Why am I so popular all of a sudden?'
Percy shook his head. He was wearing blue Nemo pajamas, which he managed to pull off without looking like a two-year-old. Well. Without looking completely like a two-year-old.
In the end it was Jason who explained. 'Piper went to go wake Jen up for breakfast, but she wasn't in her room. Then she got the rest of us and we came to find you.'
'Wait, Jen's missing?' I exclaimed. I was suddenly completely awake. Where was she? Had she been kidnapped? What if something had happened yesterday when we were all in the stables?
Piper pursed her lips, trying not to laugh.
'This is serious, guys!' I yelled, scrambling to sit up. 'Where is s-'
I felt, for the first time, a weight on my arm as I tried to get up. That's when I first turned over, saw Jen's black hair sprawled next to me, and all the memories of last night came rushing back to me.
'Oh,' I murmured. 'Oh.'
Oh, crud. What did the crew think?
'Guys…it's not – I swear we were – this isn't–'
Too late. They were already laughing to themselves. Even Frank cracked a smile. Piper literally had to lean on Jason to keep herself upright. Oh, gods. Why had I told them what I had yesterday?
'Guys, I-'
Jen shifted next to me, turned over to face me, and muttered a sleepy, 'Good morning.'
I bit my lip. 'Jen, wake up,' I said, shaking her. She probably hadn't seen the crew. 'Jen…'
She snuggled up closer to me. 'Five more minutes,' she mumbled.
The realization hit me once again that Jen had fallen asleep in my arms. The idea was so surreal and unbelievably welcome I wanted to scream. Or at least go back to sleep with her.
Then I remembered everyone else around me and I snapped out of it. 'Jen, we have visitors.'
She opened one eye lazily and finally saw Percy and Frank behind me. 'Oh!'
She sat up hurriedly but groggily, viciously rubbing her eyes. 'Hey, guys, I know it looks – we just – uh…'
She shifted away from me, which made me feel a pang of sorrow. I knew she wasn't actually ashamed of me–she was just embarrassed. Right?
'It's okay, Jen,' Piper reassured her, with a mischievous glance at me. Oh, gods, she would never let me forget this. 'Um…just why exactly are you here?'
Jen still looked mortified (and annoyingly cute, even with bed hair), so I answered for her. 'She had a bad dream.'
Every pair of eyebrows in the room went up. 'Like, bad dream where you show up to school in your pajamas, or bad dream like a vision?' Percy asked. I could not take him seriously in those Nemo pajamas.
'Bad dream like exactly the one Frank had.'
Every pair of eyebrows went up again, except for Frank, who just slitted his eyes and scowled slightly. 'Why would she have that dream?'
Annabeth rolled her eyes. 'She is a demigod, Frank. Plus, it was her in the dream.' She glanced at Jen. 'Right?'
Jen was sitting on the edge of the mattress now, legs dangling over the edge. She was wearing an oversized T-shirt that had a giant pink cat on it, which, again, was annoyingly cute. She nodded. 'It was me.'
Piper sat next to her. 'Do you know why you were letting those monsters get onto the ship?'
She shook her head ferociously. 'No. No. I didn't even…I couldn't do anything. I was trying to move or fight or something, but I was fixed in place. I just…oh, gods, I'm so sorry guys.'
'It's not her fault guys,' I looked up at everyone, knowing I was next to pleading. 'She couldn't do anything. She tried, but she just couldn't.'
Hazel rolled her eyes. 'She literally just said that, Leo.'
I nodded, looking down at my hands. Is the engine room always this warm?
'Well, I guess there's not much we can do about it,' Jason said after a very, very long pause. 'We'll just have to be extra cautious.'
Frank's mouth gaped open. 'Are you kidding? She basically just admitted to-'
Hazel touched his hand. He calmed slightly. 'Jason, you can't be-'
Annabeth glared at him. Nothing about this blonde even hinted at 'dumb'. 'We'll discuss this later. For now, as Jason said, there's nothing we can do about it.'
Piper nudged Jen, smiling. 'You should go get ready. Training starts again after breakfast.'
Jen glanced at me quickly before ducking out of the door. Her face said everything from 'Sorry for dragging you into this' to 'Good luck'. It was also very annoyingly cute.
Now that she'd gone however, Frank lost all restrain. 'Are you kidding?'
Jason shrugged casually. 'So we know she's probably the reason the monsters are coming. We can't be sure she's the reason the ship's slow and the sonar isn't working.'
'Probably?' Frank was near hysterical. 'She had the same freaking dream!'
Jason held his hands up in mock surrender. 'Hey, that aside, I don't feel like she's been here as long as she needs to. Anyone else?'
We all shook our heads, which filled me with relief. Jen was staying!
'Maybe we hold set up a new lookout system,' Annabeth suggested, curling her lip. 'Maybe two at a time?'
'I should be on lookout as much as possible,' I offered. 'I'm the only one who can understand Festus.'
Piper shook her head. 'You need your rest too, Repair Boy. We'll just come get you if Festus starts making weird noises.'
'You guys are serious about this?' Frank looked around, and when he saw we all were serious, he stomped out of the room.
'Frank!' Hazel scurried after him.
The hum of the engine room got louder as the room went silent. We all stared at each other for what felt like way too long before Piper finally broke the silence.
'Two people on watch all the time then,' she said, clapping her hands together, and turning to me. 'Now, Leo…'
I groaned, grinning, and pushed a pillow into my face. 'Pipes…'
'What happened here last night?'
I peeked around my sole form of protection to see everyone grinning at me. I smacked Piper softly with the pillow. 'Oh, shut up.'
She smiled that daughter-of-Aphrodite smile. 'Leo and Je-en sitting in a tree-'
I smacked her again, groaning. 'Stop. What are you, 12?'
'Yeah, on a scale of one to ten,' she winked, and I couldn't stop myself from laughing. Everyone else joined me, and suddenly I was surrounded by friends, laughter, and the hum of the engine room.
'Just saying, I totally ship you guys,' Piper stuck her tongue out and ducked before I could smack her again.
'Okay, quit it you two,' Annabeth pointed at us, smiling. 'You-' she pointed at me, '-get dressed. You need to get started on the sonar and the smoke screen.'
I nodded. 'And the masts. Festus said I had to check the masts.'
Annabeth nodded, and turned to leave. She bumped into Percy and smiled. 'And you,' she wrinkled her nose at him, 'get dressed too. I can't take you seriously in Finding Nemo pajamas.'
Percy grinned, kissing her nose. 'You know you love them.'
We laughed again, and slowly the room emptied. I ran a hand over my face, looking round. The bed was still warm where Jen had been sleeping, and I could faintly smell lavender. And roses. And strawberries.
Oh, gods. I'd fallen asleep with Jen Miller in my arms.
And I could only wonder if I'd ever do it again.
Piper though XD I think she ships Jeo more than anyone haha
Pretty much everyone's had a guess at who Jen's mom is, but thoughts on Gabe's mentor? Who could that be? (Hint: it is someone you should know)
And guys…if I had a cookie for every time someone said I could write books–like actual books that get published–I'd have a good 4-5 cookies which doesn't sound like a lot but that five total strangers who believe in me and that's just beautiful and I love you thank you so much for making my day every day.
Oops. That got cheesy. Ah whale.
Don't forget to review guys!
Peace out, fish trout.
