The Adventure Saga

The Beginning with Leaf Green

"Okay, Miss Oak, can you try moving your left arm, please? Wiggle your fingers?" the annoyingly overcheery nurse asked Garys elder sister as she sat up in the hospital bed. Bill, of course, was at her side, and as with Prof. Oak, much better and recovered from his encounter with Team Rocket. Gary was also present, incredibly overjoyed that his sister was awake from her two month coma, awake, and smiling. Now it was time to see if she could still use her left arm. Daisy tilted her head to the side in response to the nurses request.

"I am moving it." she responded. Everyone glanced at her arm, which sat lifeless at her side. Slowly, Daisy moved her gaze down to the limb, a scar running down her bicep from the surgery. "Oh..." There was a long silence.

"I'm sorry." the nurse said. "It seems that, while the surgery was successful, the nerve and muscle damage was to great to fully heal and restore use of your arm."

"No shit." Gary scowled. The nurse ignored this, and babbled something about having to check on more patients and how they probably wanted a few moments alone. as the nurse left, no one really said anything. What was one supposed to say when their family member-or in Bills case, girlfriend- has lost complete use of her left arm? How does someone even adjust to that, even if they were right handed?

"Well..." Daisy said, looking up with a small smile. "I may have lost all use of my arm, but I could've lost my life, right? The bullet was," she reached up with her right arm and knocked her fist lightly against the side of her head. "Aimed for my head, after all."

"You're always such an optimist." Bill sighed. "Any idea what you plan to do once your released?" Daisy sat thoughtfully for a moment.

"Check on Leaf." she said, then turning to her brother. "I am so sorry about what happened..." Gary said nothing, but stood.

"I'm going to visit her." Gary said, getting up and walking out of the room. Shoving his hands in his pockets, he walked down the hallways, moving from one wing of the hospital to the next. Any doctor who tried to stop him simply got him holding up his visitors pass.

"Oh my Arceus... Isn't that...?" Gary slowly turned, and then really wished he hadn't. "It is! It's Gary Oak!" cue fangirl shrieks and the sudden stampede of footsteps. Gary whipped around and ran.

After Leaf got hit with the Hyper Beam, she went into a coma that she most likely never will wake up from. That, however, did not stop her mother from keeping her on life support. Lately, Dayna has been caring for Flora Green, keeping up the constant hope that Leaf was strong. Leaf was alive. Leaf would wake up. Honestly, Gary was sure that this was keeping the woman out of depression, and somehow, he figured that, with Dayna now living in home with her, Flora now sees her as a daughter. She had begun to treat Dayna much like she would her own child, which Gary had to admit must be beneficial to both. Dayna never had a mother, and Flora was now without a daughter. Seriously, Leaf was in such bad condition that she had to stay in Celadon hospital. Flora couldn't even visit her regularly.

But even if Dayna was keeping Flora from falling into the clutches of depression, nothing was helping him so much. About two months earlier, when Leaf first fell victim to the coma, Gary would come in right when visiting hours were open, every day from eight in the morning to eight at night, when visiting hours closed. He kept steady at this for about a week, but then realized the possibility of Leaf waking up was minimal, and he just couldn't bare to see her in her bruised up, pale, almost lifeless state. So he went and challenged the pokémon league, winning and being crowned champion on his first try. Sure, the fame of being the youngest champion in Kanto was great for the first month, but the constant onslaught of fangirls got old. Say what you will, but Gary Oak was loyal to Leaf. He would like to see someone, anyone try to explain to fangirls that she was in a coma at the hospital. Apparently he was still free even though his girlfriend was practically dead.

"Vee, Protect!" Gary turned around and cracked a grin seeing as most of the fangirls slammed into a golden barrier. Gary turned to Fire, who walked up briskly to the mob of fangirls with now slightly squished faces. "How many times do we have to tell you, the man's taken! Back off!" with a few small grumbles, the girls got up, some brushing themselves off, and walked away. Fire turned towards Gary.

"Thanks." Gary nodded.

"No problem." Fire said, returning Vee the Espeon. "Visiting Leaf?"

"Yup."

"She looks a little better."

"Oh?"

"Yup." a silence fell between the two as they approached Leafs hospital room. "Hey, I'm heading back to Pallet, okay? Update Flora on whats going on with Leaf, and check up on Dayna."

"Okay." Again, Gary nodded, watching as Fire gave a two fingered salute before disappearing into the hospital room. Gary shut the door behind him, and stared at Leaf, still asleep on the hospital bed, IVs in her arm, cuts and bruises of the two month old fight healing, almost gone.

Slowly, he walked up beside her, pulling a chair up beside her bed.

"Hey Leaf," he said, taking her hand. "We released Zapdos, Moltres, and Articuno the other day. They flew back to where they came from, I guess. Police still have no leads on where Giovanni or the rest of Team Rocket is... and Mewtwo just up and disappeared. No one knows where he went. That Masked Boy is gone as well. People are speculating that Giovanni kidnapped him. I don't really know what I think about that though." he paused, as if expecting her to answer.

"I got attacked by another mob of fangirls today. Fire drove them off though. He's doing great, by the way. Took Dayna to a movie, though I don't think you would've liked it. Reviews say it was really sappy and cliche. Your Mom is doing fine, Dayna's taking great care of her, though you probably expected that, huh?" he paused again.

"So... I'm still champion, as you probably can guess. No one's come to challenge me, though, since there's no Viridian Gym yet, therefor, the only people who could really challenge me is Fire-he earned his Volcano Badge recently-, Dayna, if she wants to challenge the gyms, and then you... when you wake up. It's still being built, and it should be completed in about a month. We're bringing in a fun concept where the floor tiles actually cause you to spin across the floor, and won't stop till you hit a wall or another obstacle. That's what makes it somewhat of a maze. Fun, but needs a strategic mind. The fun in memory of your dad, the strategy in memory of... you." he swallowed uncomfortably. He felt tears burning behind his eyes, but swallowed them back.

"You know," he said with a smirk. "Knowing you, you'll wake up just to battle me for the champion title, huh?" he closed his eyes and shook his head. "Rivals since we were two." nothing but the heart monitor. "So, if you're ever wondering where I am, I'll probably be in Pallet Town helping Daisy with her arm. She lost all use of her left arm after getting the bullet removed from her bicep. She woke up today, by the way. Um, I'd also be in Viridian, building up your gym so then it can accept challengers again. But most of all, I'll be waiting for your challenge at the end of the league, Leaf. Other than that, for the next few months, I'll have to have Fire challenge me again, over and over." he let out a dry chuckle shaking his hand as he stood up, loosening his grip on her hand. "So, I'll be waiting for you, Leafy."

Everything was bright. Bright and beautiful and peaceful. Her father, looking just as she remembered him. Tall, long scraggly hair tied into a ponytail at the nape of his neck, T-shirt and black vest, holy jeans and hiking boots. Green eyes, like her own, sparkled happily, and his smile was absolutely radiant.

"D-Dad?" Leaf asked, to in shock to even comprehend that she was looking at her dead father. He simply opened his arms wide.

"C'mon, squirt, get over here and give your old man a hug." Of course, Leaf complied, running to her father, suddenly feeling safe, so, so safe again when his arms wrapped around her shoulders. Somewhere in her mind, she expected a flare of unbearable pain to come back, but felt nothing. Nothing but warmth, relief, and awe. As she became engulfed in the hug, she expected a flare of pain, but there was nothing.

Leaf knew she had so many things to say to her father, so many things to tell him, from victories to worries to just plain love. But all these things wouldn't come out, all she could say, over and over, was 'Dad, I really can't believe it'. It was almost like she was a kid again. All she could do was wrap her arms around him, crying.

"Arceus, squirt, you trying to squeeze me to death? Hate to break it to you, but I'm kinda already dead." Leaf backed up a bit, seeing her father's signature grin, which was unusual, because she could faintly remember that, whenever he talked about death, he would get a dark, grave look across his face. He looked her up and down, and grinned proudly. "You've grown, almost completely different from when I remember. How long has it been, anyways? It's like a long, never-ending day here."

"Seven years, Dad." Leaf answered. There was a long pause, and Obsidian Green gestured towards a small cobblestone road, that was, quite literally, glowing. Leaf caught up to her father, and they walked side by side, catching up, talking about battles and accomplishments and what happened during their time apart. Suddenly, thought, they just stopped.

"Listen, Leaf... You're not supposed to be here right now." he said. "You have to go back."

"Back...?"

"Back home. To Pallet Town. With your mother and Gary and everyone else." he said. "As much as I would love to keep you here, you've got to understand... either I send you back, or Arceus is gonna fling you back down. You're not ready for, well, death yet."

"Huh?" Leaf was having trouble running this all through her mind. She was dead? Well, of course that made perfectly plausible sense, considering she was talking to her deceased father. And this was no dream. If it was a dream, she'd know it, right?

"Listen, Leaf... I love you, and I'm really proud of you. But you can't stay here. It's just not your time. Okay?" Slowly, Leaf looked down, tears welling behind her eyes. What a cruel situation, but she knew her father was correct. There were people, to many people who meant so much to her that she couldn't afford to leave behind.

"I have one question, Dad." Leaf said quietly. He raised an eyebrow.

"Ask away." he said with a grin while crossing his arms. Leaf took a deep breath.

"Is Serenity here?" there was a pause. Slowly, her father closed his eyes and shook his head.

"If she was, Leaf, I would know. And if she was, she would be here with us." he opened his eyes, grin growing, then hugged his eldest daughter again. "Seré is still out there, Leaf. Out there, and alive." slowly, her got up, and backed away. "It's time to go now, Leaf."

And for a moment, Leaf vision became fuzzy around the edges, light seeming to engulf her as she fell unconscious.

Two Months Later...

(Four Months After Defeating Giovanni)

"I'll have to talk to Bill later, make sure he doesn't do anything stupid." Gary thought as he hung up his pokégear with a smirk. The crazy and barely comprehensible squeals of Daisy about her engagement was the most exciting thing that happened to her today.

It was boring, being champion.

That was what Gary decided. Don't get him wrong, the title and fame was great, but literally confining himself in a huge empty battle room, awaiting challengers. Which were few and far between. Only Fire had all the gym badges, and while some kids are trainers and are aiming for badges, they had to stop when they got to the Viridian gym. Why? Simply, there was a new gym, but no new gym leader, for quite a few reasons.

One; Giovanni was gone, and even if he hadn't disappeared, there was no way he would be a gym leader. Two; No one really 'qualified' for the gym position. Gary remembered what Leaf said about having someone who had a bunch of different types. He was going to live up to her wish and her father's legacy. Three; Only trainers he really found qualified was Dayna, Fire, or himself. Dayna was still caring for Leafs mother, and also became a frequent visitor of Daisy, who was struggling, but learning, how to live without the use of her left arm. He couldn't accept the position, he was champion! Simple as that. Really, Fire just wasn't interested. He liked traveling around, being free, challenging strong trainers. Staying in one place, even his own home, didn't work with him.

"Arceus, I'm boooooored." groaned Gary, leaning back in his fold-up chair, tilting his head up towards the ceiling. He'd go outside... but the last thing he needed was the mob of fangirls that he knew was waiting at the beginning of Victory Road. It's like he was a prisoner in this place. It sucks.

Suddenly, he heard a strange noise. It sounded like walking, but strange. Almost like whoever it was had crutches. Regardless, though, he was desperate for a battle. Maybe it was Dayna? Or Fire? Both were accident prone. It didn't matter. He needed to battle. Now.

He picked up his foldable chair, folded it flat, and threw it across the room in the corner. It made a small crashing sound, causing a loud clamor, but he wasn't worried about it. He turned away from the entrance, ready to give his big 'Welcome-Challenger-I-Am-Champion' speech. Slowly, the walking stopped, and he whipped around, eyes closed, arrogant smirk present.

"Welcome, challenger! While working on my pokédex, I looked all over for powerful pokémon. Now, I've built a team that will beat any pokémon type! Now, I am the-" he opened his eyes, and his arrogance fell into complete shock.

"Now that was entertaining. Think you can beat me this time, Shaymin Head?"

"L-Leaf?!" he exclaimed. Leaf smiled, coming across the battlefield with her crutches. Gary was to much in shock to really comprehend that Leaf-his Leaf!- was actually coming towards him, awake, looking almost exactly as she did before the huge battle. Scratches and bruises gone, clothing tear-free, a small smile on her lips, a glint of determination in her eyes. "Wha-What's with the crutches?" Leaf looked down at the two objects.

"Ah, during my coma, I kinda forgot how to walk. Legs are to weak to support my weight, so I've gotta walk around on these for a few months until I can build the muscle strength again." Leaf said with a smile. "How are you?"

"How am I? How do I even answer that?" Gary asked, shaking his head in disbelief. Leaf clutched a pokéball in her hand, and held it up for him to see.

"Wanna tell me in battle?" Leaf asked, that determined glint turning into a blazing spark. Gary smirked, holding up a pokéball of his own.

"If you're willing to loose." Gary said.

"Please," Leaf scoffed, tossing her hair over her shoulder. "I'm not even planning on loosing."

"Ready, Leafy?"

"Ready as you are, Shaymin Head."
