Song: Skinny Love by Birdy
Chapter 38: Adjusting Our Lives – A New Secret to Hide?
The pack rushed to the hospital, no one has felt such a happiness in their lives in months. But this is Beacon Hills, after something turns really good…it will turn really bad.
…And it's gonna be really bad. The benefactor is on the move.
…PRESENT…
Everyone sat out in the hospital waiting room anxiously. After they took Stiles in, they informed us that they were running tests on him, checking his vitals. Everyone felt better knowing Melissa made sure that she was in that room with Stiles. And the whole town of Beacon Hills knew not to refuse the Sheriff when he demands to stick with his son.
Everyone sat there patiently except for Scott and myself. Aside from waiting to see how Stiles was doing, we were primarily concerned with the veterinarian that we both loved. On the way to the hospital, Jackson assured me that he and Malia would go check to see if Deaton was okay. I wanted more than anything to see for myself, but Lydia thought I needed to be near Stiles in case anything happened.
Hopefully nothing will now ,he was awake no less than an hour ago, but Lydia was spilling out all sorts of possibilities, like what if he slipped back or he was hurt. So I stayed, my foot tapping against the floor with Alec whose had was loosely in mine despite the fact that he was passed out on Derek's side. I turned once more to make sure Alec was in a comfortable position when I saw Malia and Jackson round the corner.
My eyes widened and I felt my chest constrict as I bolted to my feet, feeling Scott hot on my tail as I sped walked to Jackson and Malia.
"What's wrong?" I asked them, my voice already cracking. "Where is-" But I stopped when I saw Deaton turn the corner his eyes narrowing on mine. I practically sprinted forward, catching Deaton by surprise as I wrapped my arms around him. Actually, it surprised me at first.
"You're okay!" I whispered, feeling safe in Deatons arms. Deaton pulled away, his worry showing then.
"Are you hurt? Addie, be honest with me I need a full diagnosis. Jackson and Malia told me everything, so I want to know if there is any side effects. Are you naucious? Tired? And don't even try to hide anything from me young lady-"
"Dad! I'm fine! I'm just glad that you're okay!" I raised my voice, throwing my arms around him once more.
Oh. My. God.
My entire body froze once I realized what I had just said. I just called Deaton…Dad. I didn't even think, the words just kind of slipped out and I don't know what he's going to think now. I was hoping he didn't catch what I said, but it was apparent he did considering the fact that I don't think he's breathing.
Then relief came when he wrapped his arms around me, squeezing me tight to which I returned.
"Adriana," He whispered. "You're grounded."
"I expected that." I replied, but I couldn't help but laugh with just pure happiness, because now everything is okay. Everything is going to be fine.
We pulled out of our hug to which Scott gave after, both of us now resting easy. Well at least I was, Scott still seemed to be on edge.
"Daddy!" Alec hollered. I turned to see him, now wide awake, sprinting down the hall. Deaton squatted down in time to scoop Alec in his arms, kissing him on his forehead repeatedly.
"Alec," Deaton said soothingly. "I'm here buddy I'm here."
"Where were you? You weren't here."
"I told you I would be back son, but I'm so sorry I took so long," I was glad Deaton tried to lie to preserve Alec's feelings, but I think Deaton and I knew Alec knew better. "I'm here son, I'm here."
"I know Dad." Alec said easily.
"You weren't afraid though were you?" Deaton said with a smile, bring Alec to grin, shaking his head.
"Worried yes, but I was brave."
"I know you were." I chimed in, Deaton pulling us together. Right now, it was perfect, we were a family. Different, but a family never the less. The clicking of feet got all of us to turn to Melissa who was walking down the hall with tears in her eyes. All of us rose to our feet and it felt like my heart dropped to the bottom of my stomach until she flashed a toothy smile.
"He's okay," She croaked out. "His vitals are normal…and he's awake again. Doctors say he's free to go when he's ready, he's still adjusting his muscles so bear with him but…but he's okay. Scott?" But the true alpha was crying now as he sprinted toward his mom, who held him tightly, whispering a mantra of soothing words.
I looked back to see the other with teary eyes, smiles on their faces. Kira made her way next to Lydia, holding her hand as Jackson pulled Malia to rest her head on his shoulder. Derek closed his eyes, but a soft grin rested on his face.
"Honey, he requested you," I heard Melissa whisper. Scott nodded and was going to sprint passed when he skidded to a stop. I was caught by surprise when he came back to me, taking a hold of my hand with a smile. I felt my lips curl upwards as the two of us ran down the hall, Scott slowed and looked backwards, nodding his head for another person to follow. I didn't have to hear the clicking of heels to know he motioned for Lydia to come as well.
The three of us happily went down the hall, hearts pounding til the sheriff came out. All three of us slowed to a stop until the sheriff met my eyes. They were glossy red, but a wide smile was on his face as he walked forward, pulling me into a hug.
"Thank you Addie." John whispered. I hugged him back with a smile til' he finally pulled away. "You kids go on in, I'm going to fill out some paperwork then we can leave this damn place." He said with a smirk I've never seen before, his hand motioning crazily to all parts of the hospital.
The sheriff walked forward, no longer looking down, but looking up. His world just got a whole lot brighter thanks to his son being awake.
I turned and followed Scott and Lydia in the hospital room. It was dim, but the curtains were drawn so you could see the bright full moon with the millions of stars surrounding it. It actually made Beacon Hills look beautiful.
But he was there.
Sitting up in the hospital bed, looking out the window. From where I stood, Stiles looked calm, truly calm. His honey golden eyes were bright in the dim lighting, and his brown hair was messy. I had a feeling, I wasn't the only one who didn't feel like saying anything for fear that maybe this is all a dream. Stiles must feel this way too.
Finally, Scott stepped forward, catching Stiles' attention. A grin spread slowly across Stiles' face and Scott strode forward. The two of them didn't need to say anything, they just held each other, in a beautiful silence that was only broken with small sniffles until:
"Scott when was the last time you showered? You smell like shit." Then the two broke into a hard laughter that flowed its way to myself and Lydia who now moved to the bedside.
"I could say the same to you Stiles." Scott replied with a shrug. "Stiles, I'm so happy you're back."
"Believe me Scott, I am happy to be back." Stiles said tilting his head to the side. "Where is everyone else?"
"Uhhh Kira, My mom, and Derek are out there with ummm…uhh-"
"Scott, don't sugar coat anything okay?" Stiles said then, lowering his head. "I know…I know everything." His hands clutched the white bedsheets beneath him, and I saw him bite his lip as his eyes clenched tightly shut. His shoulders began to tremble until Lydia moved to him, her hands cradling his cheeks, softly forcing him to meet her eyes.
"Stiles," She said with a weak smile. "We are here now. Look at me…it's okay."
"How can this be real?" He barely whispered. Lydia kept her eyes locked on his, now interlocking her hand with his, slowly bringing it up to her cheek. Stiles didn't remove his gaze from hers. His hand beneath hers, stroking her cheek as his lips quivered still, though Lydia was calm.
"I am real," She whispered, then bringing their interlocked hands to Stiles' cheek. Stiles let out a shaky breath, though his golden eyes were still locked with Lydia's emerald green. "This is real."
Now her hand brought his shaking one to the equal center between them. Lydia delicately flattened her palm against Stiles' palm, both of them looking at their hands; Stiles with amazement, and Lydia with a calm, determination.
"You are home," She whispered. Now their eyes locked again as her small fingers now interlocked with his. "This is real"
They held that for a moment, and I peaked over to Scott who was beaming at the two. I looked down at the ground then, not wanting to intrude on their moment, but I couldn't help but look up at Stiles' eyes that were lost in Lydia's.
"The things that happened out here, while you were gone, we faced together. It was painful," Lydia croaked then. "But we are going to be okay. You can lean on all of us Stiles. It's okay…let go." Stiles pursed his lips as he pulled Lydia to him. She let out a small noise of surprise as his arms wrapped around her frame, but she immediately returned the gesture, stroking his back.
They stayed like this for a while, until he pulled away with a soft smile, still beaming at Lydia.
"Thank you," He breathed before looking to Scott and I with a determined look on his face. "The benefactor. We deal with him first, then we will figure out the rest later. We move forward now, together." I smiled then as did Scott, now to deal with the benefactor.
"But first, I need to get changed." Scott said snarkily. "Scott, tell me you brought me some clothes."
"Jackson and Malia made a few stops when you were on your way in, they picked up some things for you." Scott said with a grin as he walked out. Lydia scooted back as Stiles threw off the covers, moving to the side of the bed. With such determination, Stiles pushed himself up, standing up straight with as much dignity as you can display when you are wearing a hospital gown.
He seemed to be struggling a bit, gritting his teeth as sweat began to build up. He took one step forward when his knees buckled. I rushed forward as he staggered, catching him from falling and keeping him on his feet. Stiles then met my eyes as he smiled bright.
"Have we met before?" He grinned, that got me to chuckle.
"Not in this world," I said gently. Stiles stood up straight then and I offered him a hand, tilting my head to where my head fell out of my face. "I'm Adriana. I'm a friend of Scott and Lydia's."
Stiles stifled his chuckles as he smirked down at my hand, and I felt myself grinning. I thought it was going to be different between Stiles and I in the real world, but I was more than relieved to see that it was still easy to be around him out here too.
"You can call me Stiles," He shrugged, taking my hand playfully. "But Adriana is too lengthy. Mind if I call you Addie?"
"I'd be insulted if you didn't." We both leaned forward, wrapping our arms around each other instantly. I closed my eyes in relief that nothing was different. He was still the Stiles that I have grown close to, and to see that he still felt the same about me was a huge weight off of my shoulders.
"You're safe now." I whispered.
"Thank you." He breathed back.
I vowed that this would be the last time I brought up bardow to Stiles, he doesn't ever need to relive that anymore. I don't want to relive it.
We pulled apart and I looked down to see the new symbol on my hand between my thumb and index finger. I can still see clearly the sun, moon, and star inside the circle within the mix of black lines, and peaking out on his palm, I can see the same symbol in red. I don't know what this meant, but I know this connection between Stiles and I is only growing stronger.
Scott came back in with some clothes for Stiles, so Lydia and I walked out as Scott stayed to help him to which Stiles blushed.
"Addie, I need to show you something." Lydia said then. She pulled me around the corner of the hall, double checking to make sure that we were alone. She then closed her eyes, but when she opened them once more, they weren't her usual green. I couldn't hide my shock at the sight of her eyes…
They were a luminous orange with tints lavender within it, but what really stunned me was when I looked closer, you can clearly see the symbol that Stiles and I share on our hands in her eyes. Lydia seemed surprised as well, but embraced it. I had to admit, it fit well with her. It's as if her fiery determination was now embedded into her eyes. The symbol that we share just confirms the connection between our supernatural powers, and I suddenly felt something changing with me.
In the mirror behind her, I can see my eyes no longer it's green either. Still lavender but the symbol outlined with the same orange as Lydia's, almost as if she was activating it.
Lydia smiled then, as did I. We were both growing it seems, and I had a feeling it will be for the better. Scott walked out first and Stiles came out as well, his hand pressed against the wall as he let out a deep breath of confidence.
Still, Lydia strode over to him, looping her arm around his waist as he threw his arm over her shoulder. Both of them grinned, beaming softly at each other as I turned back to Scott.
"What's the plan?"
"Well actually, I need to go back and check on Liam," Scott sighed. "He might affect the list, checking on him and figuring out the other cypher keys will help determine this."
"Wait, whose Liam?" Stiles asked then.
"He's this freshmen that Scott accidently went full alpha on at practice," I explained. "They brought him here when….hey Scott? W-what exactly did you do with Liam?" Scott's cheeks flushed as Lydia and Stiles wore puzzled expressions. I had a feeling Scott did something horrible to Liam.
….
I was right.
Scott had shamefully pulled back the curtain to his bathroom to reveal Liam who was in the bathtub. My eyes were wide when I saw that Liam was fully taped up from head to toe. His eyes were terrified as he mumbled inaudible things through the tape that was over his mouth. We all were frozen, not knowing what to say until Stiles let out a sigh, looking up as he slowly pulled the curtains again. Liam began to whimper as he did so, and all of us slowly walked out of the bathroom.
Lydia set Stiles down on Scott's bed, sitting him next to Scott as Lydia and I stood back, just staring at Scott wordlessly.
"So you bit him?" Stiles finally said.
"Yeah."
"And you tied him up and kidnapped him?"
"I panicked." Scott said wide eyed in defense. "We kind of had other issues to deal with. And I told Jackson to just bring him to my house and make sure he doesn't leave! I didn't think he'd tape him up!"
"Well what are we going to do?" I asked then. "We still have a deadpool out there, plenty of assasins are still out there, not to mention will still need to figure out the final two cypher keys in order to see who else is on the list."
"And try to make sure no one else gets killed in the process," Lydia added. "How are you going to teach Liam how to stay in control, especially since the moon is full."
"We don't know if the bite took," Scott added, his panic spreading. "It takes a while for it to take or…or…"
"Hey Scott! Focus," Stiles said suddenly, making Scott meet his eyes. "One step at a time, first we need to see if the bite took. When did you bite him?"
"A-a few hours ago."
"Okay so by now it should be in the healing process, and if not he dies." Stiles said with a shrug. All of us were stunned by Stiles' words, but Stiles was oblivious by how horrible those words actually were.
"It's been a few hours," Lydia noted. "The bite must have took otherwise he would be worse off right now."
"You mean asides the fact that he's been tied up for hours?" I said then. I was going to suggest we untie Liam when a low growl echoed in the room. I bit my lip when I saw Scott slowly rise to his feet, looking passed me. Lydia slowly moved to Stiles, pulling him up slowly.
I turned behind me to see Liam huffing at the bathroom doorway with tarred up pieces of tape hanging from his clothes. His low growls were sending chills up my spine. Liam was clenching his fist as he raised his head, his eyes glowing a brilliant yellow. His eyes suddenly clenched shut then as he huffed in frustration.
"Liam," Scott said sternly. "Find control, it's gonna be okay Liam. Liam!" But the newly turned beta was struggling, gripping the sides of his head as he half screamed/snarled.
"It's okay Liam, find an anchor," Scott said again, stepping forward. "Find something to bring you back. You can do it Liam-" But Scott's words were cut off when Liam suddenly lunged at Scott, the two of them crashing on the floor. Lydia yelped in response for when Scott fell backwards, he crashed into Lydia and Stiles consequently.
I didn't think as I grabbed the back of Liam's shirt and tried to pull him off, but he was quick as he turned to swipe at me with his etched out claws. But Scott was faster as he lunged onto him, both of them rolling on the bedroom floor with a mix of growls that vibrated the room.
I scrambled to my feet to help Stiles up, and I threw my arm in front of both of them just in case, but I felt the two of them grab either side of me, and I knew they wanted to protect me and each other. Essentially, the three of us were more than willing to step up front, but I kept my feet planted.
Scott hoisted Liam in the air, pressing him against the wall. Liam struggled, but Scott was determined not to give up. It seemed for a little bit that Liam was calming down, but then, he suddenly went to shove Scott, but the true alpha gripped onto Liam shirt, not letting go.
The two of them stumbled and Lydia let out a terrified yelp when Liam and Scott went through the window tumbling out of the roof. The three of us raced down the stairs, Stiles leaning onto Lydia for support.
We bursted through the back door, terrified of what we would find. I rounded the corner in the back to see Scott and Liam tumbling towards the trees that led to the forest. I followed, but still kept my distance from the two until Liam snarled, throwing Scott backwards into a tree. Scott groaned in pain as Liam's eyes glowed brighter as his lips curled back.
"Scott!" Stiles cried out with worry, but Liam's head snapped towards him at that. Stiles froze then, but I saw his fists clench and unclench nervously. Liam snarled then and I moved forward without a second thought.
I felt my irises glow as Liam turned to me and went to lunge. I was ready for impact, maybe using his momentum against him to throw him to the ground. It didn't matter because I was going to use all the strength I had. But I was just as shocked when a flash of strawberry blonde hair was suddenly in front of me.
I skidded to a stop and felt a powerful aura around me. A soft scream rang in my ears during this and it sent chills down my spine. An ancient symbol appeared then, like a ghostly smoke, from thin air as her hands pushed it against Liam. He flew backwards, tumbling in the grass.
The aura was gone and the tingling sensation was gone and the natural chill of night took over. I felt a smirk take hold at Lydia's new found strength. It looks like I'm not the only one getting stronger. The moment disappeared when Liam rose to his hands and feet ready to lunge. I went to Lydia's side just as Stiles suddenly appeared, hitting Liam in the side with a baseball bat. Liam went to lunge when I moved forward, causing Liam to hesitate as Lydia raced over to help Stiles whose knees gave out.
Scott leaped into action then and gripped onto Liam tight, throwing him to the ground. Liam was gasping for air as his iris changed back to his normal color, locking onto Scott's with fear.
"W-what's happening to me?" Liam whimpered. "I-I'm a…" he struggled to find the words and Scott loosened his grip, understanding.
"I don't want this," He kept repeating. "I don't want to be a-a"
"A monster," Scott finished. Liam met his eyes then, reaching a mental agreement with Scott. Scott gave a sympathetic smile then. "But Liam, you aren't a monster. You're a werewolf."
"This hurts!"
"You can control it Liam, find an anchor to hold onto," Scott instructed. "It will take time, but you will learn."
"I don't want to hurt anyone-"
"You won't Liam," I said then, Liam meeting my eyes. "You decide what to do with your new abilities, no one else."
"With this life Liam," Stiles said striding next to me, Lydia still supporting him. "You can do great things, help people, protect your loved ones."
"But-but werewolves are monsters." Liam said confused. Stiles looped his arm over my shoulder and I immediately held him as Lydia moved towards Liam. The new beta's eyes were locked on the banshee who had a soft smile on her face.
"Liam," She whispered. "Not all monsters do monstrous things."
They were simple words, but Liam took them to heart immediately. You could see it in his eyes as he looked back to Scott who nodded in agreement.
"The choice is yours Liam," Scott said rising to his feet, all of us now looking down at Liam who was stunned. "Whatever you decide." Liam hesitated for a moment, pondering in his thoughts until he looked up with a hopeful smile at Scott.
"Teach me."
…One Week Later….
"Duck!" Lydia screamed as we sat at the edge of our seats with worry. But it was too late; after Stiles leaned back missing a fist to the face, Derek gripped onto his wrist and spun him until he was pinned against the wall of the loft. Frustrated, Stiles groaned loudly.
"Again!" He said through gritted teeth. Derek rolled his eyes at the response.
"That will be the seventh time you've gone. You're done for now," He released Stiles who gripped onto his wrist, hissing in pain. "Besides its Lydia's turn next."
"Just one more round," Stiles complained as Lydia strode over to him, checking his wrist. "Give it a hundred more times you might get bored and then I will get the upperhand."
"Even if I did allow it, the fact is you won't ever be able to beat me," Derek mused. "But you can try."
"Derek, Scott will kill you if you leave one mark on him." I said sternly.
"Hey, I can handle myself," Stiles spoke up. "Well I mean, barely, but its progress."
"And you'll make progress if you don't push yourself," Lydia said almost sternly. "You did good Stiles, just be patient."
"Lydia, you're up." I told the two then. Stiles bit his lip before following me back to the couch as Lydia took her stance against Derek, fists up in the air on her toes.
"Remind me again why you three aren't telling Scott about this?" Derek questioned.
"Well since I woke up, Scott has become my own personal body guard. And annoyingly making sure I have round the clock supervision as if I am living with a cop which I do by the way."
"We three refused to sit idly by as the other were creatures train and teach Liam the basics when there is still a dead pool out there." Lydia added.
"Oh and Kate and the berserkers and tons of assasins that want us all dead. And since they will use any means to do so, I want to know how to stand on my own two feet." Stiles finished.
"And you're not telling Scott because…why?" Stiles pouted at this.
"Because I'm done being helpless."
The three of us knew there was more to the story than that, but we didn't want to push Stiles about opening up. Still, Stiles sat there looking determined to move forward with his own personal training, and I was proud of him as was Lydia. So long as Scott doesn't find out what we are doing while Lydia or myself are supposed to be "watching him," I couldn't see the harm. Personally, there's a lot that could go wrong with this but still.
Derek just nodded until suddenly, his arm moved to attach Lydia. She saw it at the last minute and was barely able to block, though she stumbled and fell to the side causing Stiles and I to rise to our feet with worry.
"I wasn't ready!" She said pissed.
"Out there, you never will be."
Enraged, Lydia sprang to her feet and moved forward, throwing smart punches at Derek who dodged lasily. Frustrated, Lydia went to kick at him, but Derek grabbed her by her foot and spun her until she was pinned on the floor. Lydia groaned in response, but twisted her leg to where she surprisingly was able to roll Derek to her left. But Derek had her arm still, so when he rolled, he stretched her arm backwards leading her to yelp in pain.
"Better," Derek replied then, releasing her. "You and Stiles are improving, but you both are still not thinking as you do so."
Lydia sat up as Stiles and I raced to her. Stiles picked her up, caressing her arm as she met my eyes, nodding that she was okay.
"You both are just punching and kicking, but you need to be smart about it. Adriana, you're up."
"Let me go again."
"Not an option," Derek said concerned now. "You two haven't been training with Kira prior to this so it will take time for you two. You both did well today, and you can now rest to improve tomorrow. Adriana?"
"Are you okay?" I said to Lydia, but she nodded quickly.
"I'll be fine," She whispered until she met mine and Stiles' eyes. "But this is good, it's progress." At that, Stiles chuckled.
"Slow progress but hey, progress." Lydia rolled her eyes playfully as she and Stiles went back to the couch as I made my way center in front of Derek.
"How long do you think you'll last today?"
"I think I'll let you figure that one out." I smirked at the werewolf. I went forward to land a punch that Derek dodged easily, but I advanced on him as I kept trying to land one. The next time he caught my fist, I ducked underneath his arm as he swung, then used my forearms to block his attacks.
At a wide punch that he threw, I ducked underneath him and managed to punch him square in the gut, causing him to groan. I smirked in response as I followed and went to kick him from behind, but skidded to a stop when he turned to attack again. I backed up to dodge, but my eyes grew wide when I felt my back hit the pillar. Damn it I got cornered.
I ducked as he went to strike and swung my body underneath his arm to throw him against the pillar. He reached behind and got a hold thigh to which a panicked.
"Shit," I said aloud as he threw me to the right and as I stumbled over my two feet, he charged forward his shoulders got my stomach as he hoisted my into the air. I thought quickly before he was able to throw me to the ground to pin me, so I wrapped my legs around his waist tightly as he moved down.
"Damn." I heard him whisper as his momentum helped me flip backwards taking Derek with me as he landed on his back crashing onto the floor.
"Dead!" I screamed excitedly until I saw him smirk.
"Not quite."
He arched his back to throw himself forward, landing on top of me as my back hit the floor. I hit his elboes to try and escape until his arm pressed against my chest pinning down my arms. I squirmed until I saw his etched out claws to my neck.
Panting heavily, I met his eyes and realized that his faced was so close to mine then, and I held my breath to stop my heart from beating erratically. But my eyes were locked on his then and I tried not to blush when I thought I saw him hesitate.
"Dead." He whispered before rising to his feet quickly. I did so as well and hurried over to the couch to chug my water down.
"You don't want to go again?" I heard Derek muse.
"You know the routine, I have to pick up Alec." I said quickly. I looked over to Stiles and Lydia who both had weird looks on their faces. I snapped out of my confusion and turned back to Derek who had a smug look on his face. "We shall see you same time tomorrow."
Suddenly, the door slid open and Peter came in with a smirk on his face. Stiles and Lydia rose to their feet when Peter waved, clearly annoying everyone in the room.
"Derek, the woman you called for has arrived." Peter slurred. My eyes sneered as this woman dressed in all black leather strode down the steps with her gun strapped to her. What was surprising were the scars that were on her neck and face.
"Braeden." Derek nodded, turning to her.
"Wait," Lydia spoke up. "You were the one looking for Scott that day in Junior year. Thanks for the bruise."
"She was the one who helped Isaac," Derek said softly. "Also broke Peter and Myself away from the Calaveras a while back."
"I was the one who was hired to get you guys out. Now let's get to business," she said quickly. "You kids can go, this is between us." She said raising her brow at Derek. I gritted my teeth as I made my way to the loft door not looking back at all, and I can feel Stiles and Lydia hot on my heels.
None of them said a word until we got in Stiles' car. I was sitting patiently in the backseat until I looked up to see Stiles and Lydia turn to face me concered. I shrugged my shoulders then, not knowing what they wanted me to say.
"What?"
"You seem frustrated." Lydia said gently.
"I am not frustrated."
"Then you are increasingly agitated with a side of fumed," Stiles sneered. "Seriously, are you okay?"
"Of course, why wouldn't I be?"
"Well to start, your whatever it is you want to call it that you have with Derek." Lydia said with a smirk, causing my jaw to drop.
"Which was painfully obvious to see by the way." Stiles added.
"But of course you'll deny it-"
"And say 'there's nothing there'."
"When in fact there is and now Braeden is here and you refused to say goodbye to Derek."
"Guys, I know why she's here," I said then leaning forward. "He and Peter are hiring her to track down Kate, remember? One less threat to worry about?"
"Oh yeah smart," Stiles rolled his eyes, turning his key into the ignition. "Hire an assassin to hunt down Kate while we run from other assasins."
"At least we can focus on the deadpool now," I said forcing a smile. "Now let's go get Alec please?" I was glad the conversation was dropped, because I wasn't in the mood to talk about Braeden or Derek. For the past week between training, school, and lacrosse, many people have been getting murdered by these assasins and it's all we can do to stay out of the limelight and be safe. Protecting each other as much as we can.
After a short car ride filled with a blissful silence, we parked in front of the school in time for the bell to ring. The three of us waited out front until we saw Alec practically sprinting to us. I moved forward and picked him up as he wrapped his arms around my neck.
"Hi Addie!" He said happily.
"Well hello to you too bud." I smirked. I put him down as Lydia faked a scoff.
"I see, it's always Addie huh," she teased. No you don't care about me huh?" Alec giggled at this as he went over to hug Lydia who returned it immediately. When he let go, he went to Stiles with a big grin.
"Are you ready for it today?" Stiles smirked.
"Yup!" Alec said with his chin in the air. "Scott taught me the handshake."
"Well let's see," Stiles grinned as he and Alec slapped hands in an orderly fashion. Lydia giggled when Stiles cried out "Nailed it!" scooping up Alec then. We climbed into the car until Stiles dropped Alec and I off at home. Alec raced inside while I looked back to Lydia and Stiles who still looked concerned.
"I'm fine guys, really." I said with a smile. They both shrugged in defeat.
"Call me later tonight okay Addie?" Lydia instructed. I nodded in response, watching as the jeep drove down the street.
I was happy to be home and relax. It was weird for me not to be heading to Deaton's work to try and wake up Stiles. Cause well, he is awake now. And while that's all good, I can't help but feel like something bad is gonna happen soon, this constant fear that I have. So much has happened and even though this past week for the most part has been really good…I know it's going to be really bad soon. I shook off those thoughts immediately and went inside to find Alec glued to the TV.
"So are those real?" Alec said then. I looked up to see that Alec was watching Dracula and I rolled my eyes with a smile.
"God I hope not," I mused. "And I thought I told you that you shouldn't watch those?"
"Technically I'm researching." Alec said still watching the screen.
"Researching?"
"Yeah, Stiles said that they are the basis for everyday life."
"That was only for the Star Wars movies that you begged me to let you watch with him."
"Correct, and now I am well educated on all things Star Wars." Alec said happily. I could'nt help but laugh.
"You spend way too much time with the Stilinski house," I smirked as the doorbell rang. I made my way to the door and was surprised to see Malia out front pacing. Puzzled, I opened the door for her as she raced upstairs. I looked to Alec whose eyes were still glued to the TV before closing the door and racing after Malia upstairs.
"Malia, what's going on?"
"I need your help with something." She said quickly. Even though I was still confused, I walked forward and sat down as she continued to pace around my room.
"I was speaking to my Dad today," She began. "After Eichen House, we decided to mend things between us, pick up where we left off when he decided to confess something."
"Well…what did he confess?" I asked concerned. Malia looked up at me and she seemed truly heart broken. Instead of speaking, she pulled out a folder and handed it to me. I opened it up and read through the files. I was just as stunned as she was. I looked up at her, feeling lost as well.
"You're adopted." I whispered. Finally, Malia sat down.
"Things are still fine with me and my…birth dad? But I need to know who they are Adriana, I have to know who I am! And I know we have a lot going on with everything but…Adriana…if whatever reason what we face gets me killed-"
"Now hold on Malia," I snapped then. "No one is going to die!" But her eyes locked with mine and the weight of my words seemed to shake. I pursed my lips understanding Malia's point now, and she didn't have to say anything. There were no guarantees if all of us would make it out of this dead pool alive since there are so many dead. Including our friends.
"If I die," Malia whispered, her eyes now watery. "I want to die knowing who I am." I smiled bitter sweetly at her, and the fact that she turned to me for this, but shocked that she didn't turn to Jackson or Scott.
"Why me?"
"Because I trust you." She stated instantly. I smiled and looked down at the file.
"Of course I'll help."
Kind of a set up for what is going to happen, but I will warn you, death is far from being done. Please review guys, I'll try to update soon!
