Hello! Thank you all so much for responding to my note! It was not supposed to come across as blackmailing for reviews, I simply wanted to make sure people were still reading. Anyway, thanks so much for all the suggestions. I liked a lot of them and am going to be using a few, so thanks for that!
Here's the latest chapter. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own any Marvel content. None of it! Sadly.
That night I woke sweating and shaking from a nightmare. Damn you Clint, you had to bring it up! I walked into the bathroom, flicked the light switch on and splashed cold water on my face. Then I saw a phone on the counter. For being a pretty smart person I could be really stupid.
I picked the phone up and flipped through my contacts.
Pepper picked up on the first ring.
"Bella, oh my gosh! Are you okay!"
I smiled, "I'm fine Pepper. You know those people Phil worked for, SHIELD?"
"Yes."
"Well I'm with them, I'm not with Hammer anymore. Listen you can't trust Hammer, okay?"
Pepper responded, "I already don't, he kidnapped you!"
I sighed, "Okay good."
"Bella, you aren't supposed to me contacting me are you?"
I laughed nervously, "What makes you think that?"
Pepper chuckled, "Okay, what did you need?"
"Pep, someone brought my pre-adoption story up. I'm having a hard time."
Pepper answered promptly, "It's okay sweetie, just find a book, think happy thoughts, and relax. Nightmares?"
I sighed, "And flashbacks."
Pepper sighed, "Bella, I know you don't like this option but it might help. Try telling someone. I don't mean me, I don't mean your father, just someone. Try for me?"
I shrugged and said, "I'll try."
"I got to go," Pepper said, "Your father misses you, I do too."
"Bye Pepper, I miss you guys too."
The line clicked dead. I held the phone to my ear until it made the dead line noise. I sighed and set it down. I knew who I had to talk to.
(Clint)
At around 2:45 in the morning there was a knock on my door. I groggily answered prepared to rip apart whoever dares to wake me up... until I saw Izzy at my door.
She looked terrible, her eyes were puffy and red, her hair was thrown into a tangled ponytail, and tear tracks ran down her cheeks. Without saying anything I opened my door and she walked in.
"Izzy, what's up?"
She sighed and sat on the couch, "I shouldn't have yelled at you."
I laughed, "Iz, you woke me up at 2:45 to tell me you're sorry?"
I knew it was more though.
She shook her head, "Talking helps right?"
I sat down across from her, "Spill."
She took a deep breath, "Before I was born my mom and my dad lived as a happily married couple. My mom cheated on my dad and I was the product of her drunken night. My mom left my dad when I was six and went to be with my biological dad, she didn't take me. My dad, angry because my mom left and angry that I was alive turned to drugs and alcohol. When he was intoxicated, which was always, he was abusive. One night when I was twelve my dad came home from the bar with some buddies. They were very violent and wanted things from me so I locked myself in my room, packed a bag, and ran to my neighbors house. She made me tell her what happened and reported my dad. I was sent to the orphanage until Tony and Pepper adopted me."
Tears were spilling down her cheeks and when she glanced at me she looked like a small child. I don't know what came over me but I pulled Izzy into a hug, she grabbed my shirt tightly and sobbed.
"Hey, it's okay," I soothed.
She sniffled but her sobs had ceased, "I'm sorry."
I laughed, "It's fine Izzy, I shouldn't have pushed you."
"Clint?" she pulled back.
"What's up?" I asked.
She looked me in the eye, "You are the only person who knows about my dad."
I got the same feeling I had gotten when Natasha had told me her past, I was happy that Iz trusted me.
"I will be the only one who knows," I promised.
She smiled, "Thanks."
I nodded. The room was silent for a beat.
"So Bird, tell me about the SHIELD life."
I laughed, "Bird? Really?"
Izzy laughed, "Hawkeye sounds to official."
I shrugged, "Fair enough. The SHIELD life, huh. Well first of all the food sucks!"
(Bella)
The next morning I woke in Clint's room. Clint wasn't anywhere to be found and there was a sticky note on my forehead, thanks a lot Clint.
Izzy, I'll be in the gym when you finally decide to wake up.
-Clint
I crumpled the note and walked out of Clint's room and back to mine.
After showering and changing into the only clothes I had; a navy blue catsuit, similar to Natasha's, I headed to the gym.
True to his word, Clint was firing arrows from different positions and doing different tricks.
"Well look at you, aren't you talented," I commented.
Clint spun around and fired and arrow still looking at me. It, of course, hit the bullseye.
"Showoff," I muttered.
Clint winked, "Always."
I shook my head, "You're impossible."
Clint laughed and fired another arrow.
"So is it true you have enhanced eyesight?" I asked.
Clint chuckled, "Not enhanced just better that 20/20. Genetic thing."
"Darn, guess you aren't awesome anymore," I said smirking.
Clint scoffed, "You wound me Stark."
I laughed.
Out of the blue Clint asked, "Want to go on a mission with me?"
"What!?"
Clint shrugged, "Your good with tech right?"
I nodded, "Yes."
Clint shrugged, "I need a field technician."
I was quiet for a few moments.
Clint looked at me, "I don't work well with others, Natasha and Coulson, that's it. I like you Iz, your smart and I'm not that awesome with high-tech stuff. So you want to come?"
I shrugged, "Alright, I was getting bored around here anyway."
Clint grinned, "Great. We leave for New Mexico later. "
