Heart of a Friend.

~PoM~

When the puffin woke up again he was in silence. What…happened? Hans didn't remember specifics.

All he remembered was being on the subway headed towards New Jersey after breaking free of that awful mind control to give himself in to a crazy dolphin villain who he thought was his friend at one point, kissing Skipper, leaving hastily away from Skipper, getting to the nearest subway, riding it for a while, being happy and thinking of Skipper, meeting a friendly platypus, finding out that supposedly friendly platypus was in fact not at all friendly and working for that crazy dolphin he mentioned before, the platypus stabbing him with its foot to knock him unconscious, and now he woke up here in this dark and gloomy looking room with a chain attached to his little puffin ankle.

Okay so maybe he remembered more specifics then he thought.

The puffin stood up but wasn't able to go anywhere far with that restraint at his ankle that was attached to the wall. "Hello? Is there anyone here?" He called out to the darkness. "I am sort of trapped and can't get out…" There was no answer so he tried again. "Hello?" Hans sighed and looked down at his feet. Things just kept getting worse for him! Ever since the Denmark incident everything has just gone downhill one crumbling boulder after another. First it was him ditching the one he loved to die once those scary Danes came in, then he was kicked out of his country so he had to move to the United States….

Which actually wasn't that bad. America was a nice country full of nice- well full of people and such. Not all of them were nice. Some of them were actually very crazy and loud… They are called 'New Yorkers'. Apparently that's natural for them.

Where was he? Oh yes! After coming to America everything was fine and he was free to roam about the city as he pleased, a wild bird in its prime. Albeit he had to keep running from animal control, that bald crazy man with the goatee with the puns had chased him for weeks until he was fired for some reason he didn't really know about…

Hans had been chased into a library. That officer guy, he thought it was a K or something close to it was kicked out by the librarian. Literally. It was an old woman, gray hair and glasses. She had an accent and she literally roundhouse kicked the animal control guy out the library doors. It was astonishing. Just another thing about New York he guessed.

After that he'd hid way up on the top of a large bookshelf just lying there with his wings folded behind his head. It was quiet and gave him some time to think or relax.

Soon enough the day must have come to an end since the library closed and the lights went out. The tropical bird had been startled for a second, shooting up to sit up when the lights turned back on at this action. As it turns out the lights were activated by motion and since the building was empty he decided it was safe to come down.

So he wandered about, found the bathroom and the water fountain, used them both and started wandering around again for something to do.

One of the computers had been left on. So the Dane being a sort of villain and all, he had to take advantage of the situation. He hopped up on the big chair and leaned over to click on the mouse. A page was open. Curious and with a head tilt he clicked again but this time on the link.

There was a website. For a zoo. The puffin peered forward, interested. Well wasn't that a coincidence when he was scouring for a new home. Although he didn't think he'd ever would have thought of living in the zoo. The idea to him seemed so…undignified. No offense to the animals that live in one.

The puffin's eyes darted to a toy that was left on the desk table. It was a glorified lion plush. With a raised brow and almost a look of disgust he picked up a pencil and nudged the doll away with it until it fell on the floor.

Hans let out a shudder. For some reason that thing had creeped him out. Anyway he remembered he had gone back to the computer, thinking on at least checking out the zoo before he completely bashed the idea. Maybe he'd end up seeing something he liked.

Oh boy did he find something he liked. He had snorted in laughter. The zoo had a penguin exhibit!

The Dane laughed again, giggling to himself. "Hehehe~ As if Skipper would settle himself down somewhere like THAT!" The thought was ridiculous.

As a joke and to find more things to be amused by, he did click on the photo to make bigger. His heart stopped at that moment as his eyes widened. Well that was both climactic, coincidental, AND a punch to the face! There was his beloved penguin living in a zoo! The Central Park Zoo it was called to be exact. He had felt like a complete failure not thinking that Skipper would actually live in a zoo. What kind of wannabe lover was he if he didn't know how the one he was in love with thought? A pretty lousy one! He decided then that he needed to know more but the website only offered so much. So much crap that is. The usual useless facts on penguins and offering feeding them as an attraction. There was nothing else.

This led to him having to think on his own some conclusions. So…Skipper lived in a zoo…

Maybe he could move in there too…

Hans stopped then. Was he an idiot? Skipper would NEVER, NEVER, let him stay anywhere NEAR him after what he'd done. How could he possibly get close to his penguin? How could he get close neutrally enough so that the arctic bird would never suspect him of trying to rekindle their lost love?

Bingo! He could come back into the penguin's life but as a villain! He'd conjure up a few schemes, fight a little and just be near the bird while in the spare time from that he'd use the information he'd gained from constantly fighting with Skipper to think of a way to rebuild their love flame! Oh yes, it was genius.

From there he went on with his plans, returning into Skipper's life as an enemy and such while all the while picking up bits and snippets of info to use for their rekindling.

Then of course he was sent to Hoboken by the leader penguin which was actually very convenient. He could take the subway which he learned he rather enjoyed taking and it was a new home for him. Living in a zoo hadn't been that bad, you know, for the two seconds before he stepped in the gate. From there it went downhill. The place was horrible, New Jersey really sucked until it ended up sucking more because of that new zookeeper that was instated. The rest of the story from there is known; Being replaced by a creepy fudge-making android double and whatnot.

Yada yada, he teamed up with that mammal fish and half moved in with the guy, tried to rekindle his romance with Skipper except by kidnapping the penguin and bringing him to Hoboken in one of Blowhole's pod transportation things which turned out to be a bad idea, Skipper forced him to take him home, he crashed the pod, was sent back to Hoboken once again but in a crate which was depressing, he spilled his heart out to the dolphin which turned out to be another horrible idea because the guy finally revealed his plan to destroy the penguins and Blowhole brainwashed him and made him a mind puppet, he broke free of the mind control, asked for a final request to see Skipper, was granted it and he returned to successfully rekindle their love, he succeeded, but he left on the subway headed towards New Jersey after breaking free of that awful mind control to give himself in to a crazy dolphin villain who he thought was his friend at one point, kissing Skipper, leaving hastily away from Skipper, getting to the nearest subway, riding it for a while, being happy and thinking of Skipper, meeting a friendly platypus, finding out that supposedly friendly platypus was in fact not at all friendly and working for that crazy dolphin he mentioned before, the platypus stabbing him with its foot to knock him unconscious, and now he woke up here in this dark and gloomy looking room with a chain attached to his little puffin ankle.

Yes and that basically summed up everything that has happened to him up to this point in current time.

Hans sighed as he looked around the dark room once again and pulled his leg on his ankle cuffing, as expected it did nothing to help free him. The puffin sighed again.

"Would you STOP sighing?" A voice demanded and it was so familiar.

The Dane looked up happily at the familiar looking shadow that approached him. His smile was wide. "Skipper!" It was then that his smile faded as he realized the figure held a knife which was headed straight for his heart.
