One month and a week later. One month and one week and no sign of Shadow. Everyone had looked everywhere but no luck.
Damien hadn't slept in one week and everyone was worried. He was digging himself into the ground.
" Gade maybe you should rest". Beast Boy said
" I'm fine BB".
" I really thin...".
" Look I said I'm fine alright"!
Everyone stared at Damien and saw him slam his head on the table.
" I can't". Damien whispered and everyone soon realized the bat was crying " I can't do this. First I lost Todd but got him back, then father died, Pennyworth died, McGinnis left, Todd died for real this time, Drake got arrested and now Grayson is somewhere and I can't find him damn it"!
Damien let out a sob and everyone just stared sadly at him. It was heart breaking when a bat cried because at that moment you knew they couldn't take anymore pain.
Speaking of pain unaware to Damien both his brothers were in pain. Jason from hearing Dick's screams every night and Dick from being tortured. Thirty four days straight.
Day One
Shadow groaned as he woke up and the first thing he registered was he was chained to a wall with his arms above his head spread out while his legs were chained to the wall also.
The next he registered was all his weapons and communicators were gone also.
" Great what the hell happened". Shadow said and pulled on - the chains but no use. " Okay let's see I was in Bludhaven and then...son of a bitch. This is just great. I'm captured by Manta and I probably sent Gade on a full out panic mode. This is so not crash and I'm definitely not feeling the mode as Impulse would say".
The door suddenly opened and Shadow's eyes widened. Why did it have to him!
" Hello Shadow". Deathstroke said with a smirk " Missing something's".
Shadow growled as he saw Deathstroke holding his weapons.
" What do you want". Shadow hissed and was glad Deathstroke didn't know who he really was.
" I have heard of your little stunt with Manta's son and I have orders to make your life hell for what you did".
" Give it your best shot". Shadow taunted and knew he was playing with fire.
Deathstroke stared at Shadow and pulled out a knife. He threw it and watched as Shadow just flinched as the knife embedded itself in his left shoulder.
" Impressive". Deathstroke mumbled and threw another knife this time aiming for his arm.
Shadow once again flinched and this time the knife went below his wrist.
" Is that all you got Deathstroke cause no offense but this is kinda pathetic". Shadow said and Deathstroke's eyes widened as he realized who he was dealing with.
" Well well if it isn't a pleasant surprise to you here Richard".
Shadow's eyes widened and hissed " How did you know".
" I've been around you so many times I know how you taunt, how you tick, strategize everything. I know you better then you know yourself".
" Your full of it. You can't even keep a child in your care".
Deathstroke growled and Shadow knew that was a big mistake as two more knifes made contact making him scream.
The two knifes went right into each of his hands. Blood was now all over the floor.
" Watch your mouth Richard or I might just kill you for real". Deathstroke hissed and pulled the knifes out making Shadow scream once again. " This is just the beginning".
Deathstroke pulled out the other knifes making Shadow grunt and left without another word.
" Scar". Deathstroke said as he saw him walk out
" Deathstroke". Scar repeated and saw the knifes covered with blood. He wanted to puke.
" Patch up our guest. I want him alive still".
" Have you cleared this with Manta".
" You have my permission Deathstroke". Manta said appearing " Scar from now on you follow Deathstroke's orders involving our prison".
" Of course". Scar said and walked into the room where Shadow was.
Shadow was barely awake when he saw Scar come in. He growled and hissed " Did Deathstroke send you in to finish the job".
" If you keep talking like that maybe I will". Scar hissed back " He wants you alive and I'm here to make sure of it. Now shut it before I shove a knife in you myself".
Shadow growled but didn't really want another injury so he kept quiet and glanced at Scar. There was something about him that seemed familiar but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.
" There all done". Scar said after twenty minutes " Now if you'll excuse me I have a Martian to watch".
" Miss Martian". Shadow whispered just as Scar closed the door who was trying not to break.
" Keep it together Scar. You don't have a choice". Scar scolded himself
Day Two
Shadow woke up as he felt himself get kicked in the side. His eyes shot open and saw Deathstroke smirking.
" I see Scar did an excellent job on keeping you alive". Deathstroke said
" Yay me". Shadow said sarcastically " Can't wait to see what lame stuff you have today".
Deathstroke smirked and Shadow saw it was one Manta's troopers laser guns.
" This is only going to hurt a lot". Deathstroke said and fired a laser at Shadow's wrist.
Shadow bit his lip but couldn't hold back a scream. His wrist was on fire and it hurt like hell.
Deathstroke did the same with his hands and arm wound earning three more screams.
Scar who was waiting outside felt himself flinch every time he heard his brother scream.
" There's nothing I can do". Scar thought and saw Deathstroke walk out with a smirk on his face that made Scar want to punch the guy. He'll get his revenge later.
Day Three
Shadow let out an ear splitting scream as Deathstroke burned an S onto his right shoulder
Scar flinched as this time he was actually watching. He wanted to scream stop but he couldn't and it killed him inside.
Deathstroke then did one more S and this time did it on Shadow's neck.
He screamed from the top of his lungs and Scar had to cover his ears. It was too painful. He felt himself have enough of the torture and scream " STOP"!
Deathstroke stared at Scar shocked and Scar then shouted " We need him alive Deathstroke! Your gonna kill him"!
Deathstroke realized Scar was right and said " Patch him up", before leaving.
" Thanks". Shadow mumbled
" I may be working with Manta and Deathstroke but I still have a heart". Scar replied
It was silent and once Scar was done he walked out and got slammed up against the wall by Deathstroke.
" Next time you interfere I might burn you". Deathstroke hissed
Scar couldn't reply since Deathstroke was choking him and was relieved when Manta came by.
" Deathstroke release Scar at once". Manta demanded.
Scar fell to the ground and gasped for air. Deathstroke growled and walked away.
" Scar are you alright". Manta asked
" I'm mine".
Manta just nodded and walked away leaving Scar leaning against the wall.
Day's Four, five, six, seven, eight, and nine Deathstroke gave Shadow fear gas.
Day four Shadow watched his parents die over and over again. Day five he watched the building that Jason was in explode. Day six watched Batman save his safe then die, day seven watched Alfred die, day eight watched how Tula screamed before she died and finally day nine pictured how Jason died a second time.
Day Ten
Shadow grunted as Deathstroke placed six knives in his legs. He wondered what Deathstroke was planning until he suddenly got released from his chains and fell on the floor, the knives going in deep making Shadow scream in pain.
" M'gann I can't do this"! Scar shouted through the link she established as she was taking a small break. " It's to painful to hear his screams! He's only a child"!
" Jason calm down. We'll get through this. For now just keep him alive. Stay strong Jason".
" I'll try". Scar whispered and flinched as he heard two more screams. He walked in and saw Deathstroke had lodged two more knives into Shadow's legs and quickly pulled then out.
" You know what to do". Deathstroke said and Scar just nodded but inside he wanted to puke.
The floor was covered in Shadow's blood and in fact he was still on the floor. He looked so broken and his uniform top part was off making him see all of his scars.
Day Eleven
Scar couldn't take it. Deathstroke pulled out a gun and aimed right at his little brother.
He flinched as it landed into Shadow's shoulder and saw Shadow had grunted and saw Deathstroke fire another at the other shoulder.
Scar's eyes widened as Deathstoke fired a bullet close to Shadow's face. It grazed his ear and he hissed in pain.
Deathstroke then shoved a knife in each of the bullet wounds and Shadow screamed.
Scar thought Deathstroke was done and literally wanted to scream as he slashed a knife over both of Shadow's eyes earning two more screams.
" Deathstroke stop". Scar said as he saw the sick man about to torture Shadow some more.
Deathstroke growled and ran a knife down each one of Shadow's legs causing a huge blood trail on both legs.
Scar was about to say something only to have a knife lodge itself in his left shoulder.
" I give the orders Scar and next time you'll get more then a knife". Deathstroke hissed and left Scar.
Days twelve through twenty four Deathstroke decided to give Shadow the fear gas once again.
Scar had advised Deathstroke to let Shadow regain his blood back since he lost a lot of it on day eleven and they needed him alive.
This had earned himself a knife in his right shoulder, one in right his leg and another in his left arm. Although Deathstroke had taken his advice.
The torture went on for ten more days making it thirty four days and today was day thirty five.
Deathstroke decided to bring out the gun again and shot Shadow once in the side and in the chest.
" No". Scar whispered as Deathstroke was going to kill Shadow.
" Let him bleed out. I have business to attend to". Deathstroke said and walked out.
" Not today". Scar said and quickly released Shadow who fell. " Listen to me I'm getting you out of here. Take these and say you stabbed me while I was off guard".
" Why are you helping me". Shadow wheezed
" Let's just say I had a younger brother once. Now go".
Shadow weakly nodded and saw Scar stab himself.
" Thank you". Shadow said and ran out leaving Scar smiling. He had saved his little brother.
Manta's troopers had seen Shadow and he threw knives at them before making a run for it. He found a ship and he quickly started it and went to the surface.
Shadow was getting dizzy and could barely breathe. He arrived at Happy Harbour somehow and pressed his emergency button which was somehow still attached to his uniform.
Damien and everyone jumped at the noise of the alert and everyone rushed to where Nightwing's location was.
" I'm sorry". Shadow whispered before he left his eyes close.
A couple minutes later every leaguer, Titan and team member all arrived and Superboy said " His hearts stopping. He might not make it".
" He's gonna make it". Flash said and quickly grabbed the injured bird and rushed to the zeta tubes.
" He's alive". Damien said tears of relief streaming down his face and everyone rushed to the watchtower after they had been authorized since Dick disappeared.
" This wasn't the plan". Artemis whispered to Wally and Connor
" Well at least Jason got him out somehow". Wally said
" What'd makes you think it's Jason". Connor asked
" Trust me it was Jason. If it was M'gann she would be here".
" I just hope Dick makes it. If he doesn't this is all our fault Wally". Artemis said
" He had to make it. He has to". Wally whispered and realized they were already at the watchtower.
" Damien get some rest". Red Arrow said " I'll wake you if I get any news".
Damien was about to protest until he realized his body was shutting itself down.
" You better Harper otherwise I'll shove a bird a rang in your shoulder". Damien threatened and got comfortable on the floor along with everyone else.
" Trust me I will". Roy whispered and saw Wally in tears. He walked over and pulled his little brother into a hug.
" Why does it have to be him". Wally sobbed as him and Roy sat down
" I don't know Wally. I don't know".
" What if he doesn't make it".
" We can only have hope and faith now".
The titans stayed all night along with the team but some had to call there parents and say they were at a friends.
" If Dick doesn't make it what happens to Damien". Beast Boy asked Jinx
" He'll slip and Tim will end up back in jail". Jinx said
" What happens to us then".
" We carry on. Heroes never die you know".
" Heroes never die". Artemis repeated and left surprising everyone and Damien woke up.
Artemis came back half an hour later with beer and soon Roy was helping her carry it.
" To our friends and family". Artemis said
" To our friends and family". Everyone repeated and took a drink of there beer remembering everyone they had lost but had never died.
