I don't own Harry Potter or Code Lyoko
Marabounta
"Ants are social insects like bees or termites," said Ms Hertz as ants crawled around inside a box. Everyone looked at them, particular Jeremy. "A single individual is incapable of ant personal initiative, all the decisions are made by the colony. Ants receive simple orders like search for food or mark the path to the food or follow a marked path. As a result, we might get the impression that each ant is rather clever. This has more to do with a collective intelligence."
"You mean that an army of Sissis could be intelligent?" asked Odd. "Huh, I don't believe it!"
"Very funny," said Sissi as the class laughed.
"Settle down please. As I was saying, the ants working together complete some fairly difficult tasks. It seems that ants even wage war against different colonies."
"This has given me an idea for a new game," said Harry as he scribbled down lines of code.
"What about killer ants? Do they exist?" asked Ulrich as he raised a hand.
"Well, yes, maybe in movies, Ulrich," said Ms Hertz. The class laughed again. "There are, in fact, army ants who destroy everything in their path. It's true you'd best stay out of their way."
"And do any of those bugs live around here?" asked Sissi.
"No," said Ms Hertz. "They live in South America. Down there the phenomenon is called Marabounta."
"Phew! I'm glad I live in a country where there's no danger!" exclaimed Sissi.
"Uh, just because there are no army ants in France, that doesn't mean that there's no danger Sissi," pointed out Harry. Jeremy was still focusing on the ants as the bell rang and the class left.
Lunch
"Saturday's my favourite day, no school in the afternoon," said Odd as he ate lunch.
"I like Sundays better. No school at all," retorted Ulrich.
"You seem worried Jeremy," said Aelita as Harry typed the code into a program. "What's on your mind?"
"Franz Hopper's notes."
Harry looked up at the mention of his Uncle.
"Last night I decrypted a really interesting part on a multi-agent system. It's a computer application that follows the principal of an anthill! What happens is…" said Jeremy as he started to launch into am explanation.
"Oh no, Ms Hertz has already bored us to tears with all that ant stuff, don't you start now," interrupted Odd. They started to laugh.
"Seriously, I might have found a way to weaken Xana," said Jeremy. "Let's meet up at the factory after lunch. I'll explain everything."
Aelita stood up with her empty tray. "Normally I'd love to but I have to finish my Italian homework. See you." She walked off.
"I have to practice for a skateboard completion," said Odd as Jeremy looked at him. He walked off as well.
"Yumi?"
"Sorry, I have swimming after school. Coming Ulrich?"
"Yep." Ulrich stood up and followed Yumi.
"What about you Harry?"
"I'll come," said Harry. "But I'm bringing my laptop."
Lab
"Ok, here we go," muttered Jeremy as he cracked his knuckles. He started to type, leaving a pile of magazines about ants on the floor. Harry sat cross-legged on the floor nearby, writing his program.
Swimming Pool
William walked to the edge of the diving board and looked at Yumi. She was swimming with Ulrich. He dived off to some protests. He looked at Yumi again.
"Hey, are you going to try diving?" asked Yumi.
"I'm not going to do it to impress you if that's what you're thinking," said Ulrich.
"You don't need to impress me silly," said Yumi as she pecked Ulrich's cheek. William looked on jealously. Ulrich smiled and climbed up to the diving board. Sissi watched him then imagined Harry in his place. She blushed. William swam over to Yumi.
"Isn't that Ulrich stern about to dive?"
"It is," Yumi said as she watched him.
"IS it true that you're going out with him?"
"It is."
William looked at Ulrich with more jealously than before. Ulrich tried to jump but slipped and fell into the water.
"Ulrich!"
Ignoring his feelings, William swam under and pulled Ulrich up. People ran over.
"Is he ok?" asked Sissi.
"Is he breathing?" asked another girl. "Is he hurt?"
"Oh, call somebody! He looks like he's…he needs mouth to mouth!" said a third gill.
"Is he alright?" asked Yumi worriedly as she approached after getting out of them pool. Jim came bumbling in.
"Let me through!" he ordered. "I've got a first aid certificate!"
Jim started to give Ulrich mouth to mouth, ignoring the fact that he was awake and breathing on his own. Everyone else looked on, disgusted.
"Good thing I was here."
"Are you ok?" asked Yumi. "I'm sorry for suggesting it." She hugged him. Ulrich hugged her back.
"It's alright, you didn't know."
"I think you should go back to school," said Yumi as she stood up.
Lab
"Now for the moment of truth," muttered Jeremy. He started the program. "Everything seems to be working. Transfer prototype. Scanner. Virtualisation."
Lyoko
A grey blob appeared in the forest sector. It started to multiply.
"Yes! Franz Hopper, you're a genius! And so am I!" exclaimed Jeremy. "Xana and his monsters better watch out."
"I see you got it working," said Harry as he stood up and walked over.
Odd's and Ulrich's dorm
"What's up?" asked Odd as he entered the room.
"Nothing. Just an accident." Odd's phone rang and he answered.
"Jeremy?"
"I have something amazing to show you guys," said Jeremy excitedly. "Can you meet me at the factory?"
"Ok. As soon as possible."
"Great. Don't forget to pick up Aelita."
"Ok." Odd ended the call. "Jeremy's called a meeting at the factory. You coming?"
"Sure." Ulrich stood up and followed Odd out of the room, closing the door behind him.
Lab
The three entered the lab as soon as the doors opened.
"There you are," said Jeremy as he looked at them. "What took you so long?"
"It took a while to get Aelita to move," said a grinning Odd as he looked around. "We're missing Harry. "Where is he?"
"Where do you think?" asked Harry.
"Oh, you're on Lyoko. What did you want to show us?" asked Ulrich.
"It's Marabounta, my own creation!" said Jeremy proudly. "It's better than Harry's monsters anyway."
"I still think you've forgotten something," said Harry. "You should have let me look at it."
"And what does it do exactly?" asked Odd.
"I's a multi agent system. It functions to the same principle of an ant hill but instead of ants, we have theses spheres whose mission is to search and destroy Xana's monsters."
"I get it," said Ulrich.
"SO do I," said Odd. "Xana's monsters are getting wiped out by those spheres so Xana leaves us alone."
"That's right," said Jeremy.
"But what if there's a real bug in the program?" asked Aelita.
"Impossible. Remember Franz Hopper was a genius," said Jeremy.
"It runs in the family," said Harry. "Me and Aelita are geniuses too."
"That's right," said Odd. "Can we take a closer look? If this thing really works, nothing can happen to us."
"You read my mind Odd. Go to the scanner room. I'll transfer you to where Harry is," said Jeremy. The two boys started to move but Aelita stayed put. "If there's the slightest problem, I'll pull the plug. Promise."
Aelita started to move as well.
"Transfer Aelita. Transfer Odd. Transfer Ulrich. Scanner Aelita. Scanner Odd. Scanner Ulrich. Virtualisation."
Lyoko
"You are south of the Marabounta," said Jeremy. "Take the path on your left. I don't have enough resources on the computer for your vehicles. Oh and look out for monsters. Xana night have his hands full but you never know."
"Why hasn't Harry already had a look at it?" asked Ulrich as they ran in the right direction.
"Because I was waiting for you," answered Harry.
"Krabe at two o'clock!" They stopped and looked at it. "Follow it. It's going in the right direction."
They ran after it.
Swimming Pool
William sat down next to Sissi.
"Have you been crazy about Ulrich for a long time?" asked William as he looked at her.
"Have you been crazy about Yumi for a long time?" asked Sissi in return.
"Forever!"
"You've only been here for a few months," pointed out Sissi.
"Don't you believe in destiny with a capital D? Two people who've never met, but who are made for each other?" asked William.
"No, I'm not really into fairy tales or cheap, magazine-style romance stories. I've had a crush on Ulrich since elementary school but he's shown no interest in anyone but Yumi. They've been going out for ages so I moved on to Harry," said Sissi as she looked at Yumi swimming.
"And if it wasn't for that big-shot Ulrich, I…" muttered William.
Yumi climbed out of the pool.
"Can we go?" she asked. "I'm getting cold."
William and Yumi left Sissi for the changing rooms.
Lyoko
"Target dead ahead," said Jeremy.
"We can see it," said Ulrich as they stopped.
"Well? What's it like?" asked Jeremy in anticipation. They gasped as the spheres swarmed over the Krabe they had been following.
"Pretty…scary," said Odd as they watched the Krabe sink. A tarantula shot at it as it swarmed towards it but its efforts were futile. It also tried to get to some hornets. They managed for a few moments before it spurted upwards and covered them. A Megatank fired but it swarmed over it too. "I never thought I'd ever say it, but I real feel sorry for Xana."
"I'll uplink you a visual, Jeremy," said Aelita. The screen opened on the monitor and Jeremy watched.
"It's working even better than I thought it would," said Jeremy thoughtfully.
"If you want my opinion, Einstein, you've invented yourself a nasty piece of work," said Odd.
"It's pretty creepy," agreed Harry.
"I agree with Harry," said Ulrich as the Marabounta claimed more monsters.
"Jeremy, I've…seen enough. I want to come in," said Aelita.
"Ok, I'll bring you in. head south east. There's a tower in that direction."
"Got it!" Aelita attempted to move but the Marabounta blocked her path as well as Harry's.
"Odd! Ulrich!" they turned and looked back. Harry made a path with his shuriken and ran out.
"What's going on?" asked Jeremy. "What's happening?"
Odd blasted a path with laser arrows and Aelita ran out. They ran away and the Marabounta followed.
"Laser arrow!" he shot at it again.
"Say something!"
"The Marabounta's chasing us!" cried Harry.
"It seems to have it in for us," said Odd.
"This is no time for jokes! I programmed it to attack Xana's monsters only," said Jeremy.
"Well…could you program some eyeglasses for it then?!" asked Odd.
"I told you that you should let me check it!"
"Huh?! This can't be right. Did you do something special?" asked Jeremy.
"No! Except for firing a few laser arrows!" said Odd.
"And a few shuriken."
"That wasn't the smartest thing to do…" said Jeremy.
"They didn't have a choice," said Ulrich.
"The Marabounta was after me and Harry," said Aelita.
"How can that be?" asked Jeremy. "Unless. Jeremy, you idiot! It's my fault! It's the virus implanted in Aelita! The Marabounta thinks she's one of XANA's monsters!"
"Great! Nice work, Frankenstein! I thought we had nothing to worry about!" exclaimed Odd.
"I was wrong… Head for the tower."
"What about me?" asked Harry. "That explained Aelita but not me. Unless… check for Xana's codes in me Jeremy!"
Jermyn typed away at the keyboard. "You're right Harry. There's a single line of Xana's coding in you. That was what the Marabounta picked up on."
"How did Harry get Xana's code?" asked Ulrich.
"When I was Xanafied,"
"What?" asked Odd.
"Xanafied. When someone is taken over by Xana."
"Oh no! Oh no! Oh, no, no!"
"Whenever you're ready, Jeremy!" called Odd.
"Hurry up! I don't want to lose my brother!"
"I can't deactivate the program! It seems that the Marabounta doesn't want to die! The Marabounta's become autonomous; it'll submerge everyone and everything in its path!"
"Brilliant Jeremy. Absolutely brilliant."
"I'll brief Yumi."
He rang her.
"Jeremy? Huh?! What are you talking about? What do you mean, a Chattanooga?" asked Yumi as she listened.
"Marabounta! I can't explain now. Get to the factory. Harry, Aelita, Odd and Ulrich are in deep trouble. Especially Harry and Aelita."
The four stopped.
"I think we lost it," said Harry. "Can you see it on your screens Jeremy?"
"Next time, let Harry deal with monster creating Jeremy," said Ulrich. "His hasn't gone wrong."
"Thank you Ulrich."
"Head due west," said Jeremy. "The Marabounta hasn't hit there yet. I'll find a way to stop it."
"Don't blow it," said Odd. "I don't want to end up as chewing gum."
They started to run again.
Kadic
Yumi ran across the grounds when William stopped her.
"Hey, Yumi. Want to go out with me later?"
"Sorry, I've got plans." She pushed past him and continued towards the manhole. William watched her go.
Lyoko
They stopped again when they saw the tower… and the Marabounta.
"We have a problem. The Marabounta go here first," said Harry.
"This won't take me long," said Jeremy. "I promise. Yumi's on her way. I hope so anyway. Hopper, help me out."
Harry and Odd shot at the Marabounta to keep it from advancing. It surrounded them.
"Of this keeps on going, all of Lyoko will be destroyed," said Jeremy.
Aelita backed against a tree.
"Careful, Xana's sending a monster." A Krabe appeared and offered Aelita its leg. She grabbed it and the Krabe flung her to safety as the Marabounta destroyed it. Jeremy's phone received a text.
"That's crazy," said Odd. "That Krabe scarified itself for Aelita. I don't get it."
"That's weird," said Jeremy as he read the text. I think I understand. Xana needs Aelita's memory. She needs to be alive for that."
"Hey, what's the matter with them?" asked Odd as several more monsters shot at the Marabounta.
"They're…protecting me…" said Aelita.
"Aelita's right. Use them as allies. Uh, Harry…" said Jeremy.
"What?" asked Harry.
"Xana just sent me a text."
"What about?" asked Ulrich.
"Xana wants to temporarily possess Harry."
"How do we know that we can trust him?" asked Harry.
"We don't."
Harry sighed. "Can we do this without Xana?"
"Probably not. We don't have the resources."
Harry sighed again then raised his voice. "It's temporary, you hear?!"
A Scyphozoa turned up almost immediately.
"You sure about this?" asked Ulrich as he grabbed Harry's arm.
"I'm sure," said Harry as he walked over to it. "That doesn't mean I like it though."
It picked him up and placed it's tentacles on his head for a moment before placing him on the ground again and disappearing.
"That really had to happen," said Ulrich as he looked at him. "I guess the Marabounta was already after him so he's not at any more risk."
Yumi entered the lab.
"At last," said Jeremy. "Get to the scanners."
"Want to tell me what's going on?" asked Yumi.
"No time. Get to the scanners now. You lot, cavalry's coming."
More monsters joined the fight as Aelita watched Yumi appear. She sent a fan at a Blok.
"No Yumi. Not them," said Aelita as she pointed at the grey mass. "The Marabounta is the one to go after."
"Uwah! What is that horrible thing?!" asked Yumi.
"One of Jeremy's bright ideas! Luckily, Xana's here to give us a hand!" said Odd as he fired. "He's also taken over harry. With his permission of course."
"The world has turned upside-down!" exclaimed Yumi. "First an out of control monster courtesy of Jeremy then Harry giving himself to Xana…"
She threw her fan at it as the possessed Harry sent several shuriken at it.
"How are you doing Jeremy?" asked Aelita.
"I'll never make it. I'm really the biggest loser to walk the face of the Earth!" said Jeremy.
"That I can agree on," said Harry in a distorted voice. "You really should have taken Harry's advice and let him check it. He is better at programming than you."
"Be quiet Xana."
"Just stating a fact."
"You couldn't have known that my virus would be a problem."
"He should have thought about it."
"Virus? Virus! That would work!"
The group retreated into a smaller space.
"Whatever you do, don't let it make any headway. It'll attack from the rear!" said Odd.
"You're a really good combat general, Odd!" said Yumi.
"It takes strategy, y'know? The only thing stupider than a Blok, is two Bloks!"
"I object to that."
Ulrich attempted to stab it but he had to retreat.
"Jeremy, move it. Things are getting a bit out of hand," said Yumi.
"I'm doing my best."
"You are so stupid."
"It doesn't help that Xana is using my best friend to insult me."
The Marabounta swarmed over two Kankrelats.
"I think I've found a way to destroy the Marabounta," said Jeremy. "Odd, I inserted a virus into one of your arrow. If you hit a sphere, the whole colony will be infected. But…"
"So the boy isn't as stupid as he appears."
"No sweat!" said Odd.
"Wait! It'll only work if you hit the first sphere, the one I transferred to Lyoko that created all the others. It's at the heart of the Marabounta."
"Great, so how am I supposed to reach the heart of the Marabounta? On a camel's back?!" asked Odd. A Krabe gained his attention.
"Climb on," said Xana through Harry.
"It's the only way," said Jeremy.
"Charge!" ordered Odd once he climbed on the camel substitute. The Krabe moved forward. "Jeremy, would you mind telling me how to find the right sphere. They all look the same."
"You should have given it to me. I'd would have been able to do it without any help."
The Marabounta retreated away from the shuriken.
"Leave it to me Odd. I'll give you directions."
The Marabounta wrapped itself around Aelita's ankle. Several shuriken impaled it. The Marabounta grabbed Yumi who disappeared and reappeared in the scanner.
Ulrich continued to hack at the Marabounta but his strikes weren't very effective.
"Almost there Odd. I can give you the exact coordinates of the first sphere."
"That's ok," said Odd as he looked at a hovering sphere. "I think I found it."
He aimed at it.
"Only one shot Odd."
He fired and the Marabounta exploded.
"Never do that again," said Harry as Xana left him and he collapsed to his knees. "That felt weird. It feels good to have control of my body again."
The monster's bowed.
"Don't buy it Aelita," said Ulrich.
"Ulrich's right. The Marabounta's gone, but Xana and his monsters are still our worst enemy…" said Jeremy. "He still wants to get your memory and possess Harry permanently."
"It's alright," said Harry. "They're leaving for now. I managed to gain that much from Xana."
"Next time you want to play being a mad scientist, clue us in a little more first, ok?" asked Odd as they returned to earth and went through the sewers.
"Well I really tried to, but you all had better things to do," said Jeremy. "But you're right Odd. This time I was a big zero from start to finish. Xana made fun of that fact."
"He had a point," said Harry.
"You found a way out of it Jeremy," said Aelita. "That's what counts."
Kadic
"Well if it isn't the whole crew!" said Sissi as they walked past.
"Well if it isn't the brainless frog-face!" retorted Odd.
"Ha Ha Ha. You crack me up. By the way Ulrich, are you feeling better after what happened at the pool?"
"Cool it Sissi,"
"Be nice Ulrich," said Harry.
"So what happened at the pool, Ulrich?" asked Odd as they walked into the building. "Come on, out with it!"
"Nothing!" said Yumi and Ulrich.
"What?" asked Odd as he gaped at them.
