My Baby Girl:
"Dammit!" Wade cursed, stubbing his toe on the end of the bed, waking Zoe up.
"What happened?" She mumbled, not moving from her spot, let alone opening her eyes.
"Shit, Zoe, I didn't mean to wake you." He was tired from the shift he worked. He had went in for the afternoon shift only to work till closing when everyone called in sick. The room was dark, more so than normal.
"Don't matter," she replied, rolling over to snuggle against him. Wade dropped a kiss to her temple, holding her close. "You ok?" She whispered, pressing a kiss against his bare chest.
"I'm fine," he whispered, sleep already taking his body over.
"Mommy!" Emma cried from her room. Zoe got out of bed with a groan. It was 3 in the morning. "Mommy!" Emma called again. Zoe pushed her daughters door open the rest of the way.
"Oh sweetie," Zoe cooed, seeing the mess that was beside her daughter's bed, along with it being all over her daughter. Zoe got her in the tub, feeling how warm she was.
"My tummy hurts," Emma whined.
"I know sweetie and Mommy will do everything she can to make you feel better."
With Emma clean, Zoe put her in bed to cuddle with Wade. Zoe had woke him and explained to him what was going on. With Emma snuggled up to her Daddy, Zoe got busy getting Emma's blankets in the wash, along with cleaning the mess that was in a pile on the carpet.
Zoe got back into bed with everything taken care of. Emma was sound a sleep but Wade was wide awake.
"She's not seriously suck is she?" Wade asked. He never had to deal with sick kids. This was his baby girl. Nothing could be wrong with her. If there was he would personally find a cure for her.
"Relax, it's just the flu. It'll run it's course and be gone." This wasn't the first time she had dealt with a sick Emma. It wasn't going to be the last. It was sweet how protective Wade was being. Zoe snuggled down into the blanket to get a few more hours of sleep. But Wade, sat up, keeping an eye on his little girl.
Zoe went over everything Wade would need to deal with a sick kid, and if he needed anything to call her. Wade assured her that he could handle a sick Emma. With Zoe out the door, Wade went up to check on his baby girl. She was still out cold on the bed. He headed downstairs to play a game, careful not to wake Emma up.
About an hour later Emma woke up. Wade gave her a few crackers, hoping her little tummy could hold them in. He searched the kitchen looking for some soup, but came up empty-handed. He cursed, picking up the phone calling Lavon. He wouldn't take Emma out of the house sick. Wade draped a blanket over his daughter, who was absorbed in a cartoon.
"Mayor Lavon Hayes."
"Hey Lavon, you wouldn't happen to have a can of chicken noodle soup, would you?" Wade asked, feeling his daughters head. She was still warm, but not as warm as she was in the night.
"I'd have to check. Why?" Lavon asked, walking to his kitchen.
"Emma's sick, we don't have any. I don't want to take Emma out and Zo is at work," he explained, watching as the pups on the screen saved some baby sea turtles.
"I've got a can," Lavon announced. "I'll bring it over."
Ending the call with Lavon, Wade sent Zoe a message to bring some soup home when she came.
"You feeling alright?" AB asked, coming in for a check up. Zoe nodded, getting things she would need.
"Emma woke up in the night sick. Wade's at home watching her. I don't have to worry, because she's in good hands, but I can't help but worry about her," Zoe explained with a sigh. AB nodded.
"I hope Emma gets better soon." Zoe gave her a smile going about to finish the check up.
"A clean bill of health, AB."
"If you need anything, don't hesitate to call."
"Everything will be fine tomorrow. But thanks Annabeth." She nodded walking out. Zoe sighed when Brick entered her office. They were okay to an extent, things were still a little tough between them. "What can I do you for, Brick?"
"I overheard you saying that Emma is sick. I know what it's like to deal with a sick daughter. What don't you take the rest out the day off. Not much is going on anyway."
"Wow! You do have a heart, Brick. Thank you for this."
"People can surprise you, Dr. Hart." Zoe nodded at that collecting her things. She stopped off for some soup on her way home.
Zoe walked through the door seeing a little kid show was being watched but not only by her half asleep daughter but her very adorable boyfriend. Zoe kicked her shoes off by the door, getting the soup to the kitchen. On her way through, she stopped by her boyfriend.
"Hey," she whispered, sharing a kiss with him. "How is she doing?" Zoe asked, looking at her daughter, to see that in a few seconds she was going to be out.
"She only threw up once. Everything seems to be staying put. You're home early," he commented, the second he read done explaining the events of his morning.
"Brick let me off for the rest of the day." It was good to hear that Emma was doing better this afternoon. By tomorrow she would be close to being herself again.
With Emma asleep on the couch, they curled up in the chair and watched little kid cartoons. It wasn't the ideal way to spend your afternoon, but it was for them.
