"Glaceon, use Shadow Ball!" May shouted.

Glaceon had just dodged another Body Slam attack from Bayleef. She quickly retaliated by forming a dark purple ball of energy and firing it at Bayleef. Bayleef wasn't quick enough and took the Shadow Ball head-on. The attack was strong enough to push her back a few feet, but she nevertheless remained standing.

The battle had been raging on, with neither Pokémon giving an inch to their opponent despite them throwing everything at them. The battlefield was a twister of Ice Beams, Shadow Balls, Razor Leaves, and Vine Whips. "Hurry Glaceon, use Iron Tail!"

Glaceon lunged at Bayleef again, ready to strike with another Iron Tail attack. Bayleef was still reeling from the Shadow Ball. "Come on Bayleef! Dodge and use Vine Whip!" Drew shouted. Bayleef heard her trainer's command and act accordingly. She jumped out of the way before Glaceon could land a hit. Bayleef quickly used her Vine Whips and wrapped them around Glaceon's body. She then hoisted Glaceon up high into the air. "Oh no, Glaceon!" worried May.

Glaceon tried desperately to break free from Bayleef's hold, but the Vine Whips were too strong. Bayleef pulled back and then tossed Glaceon to the ground. May's Pokémon gasped as Glaceon landed hard on the ground. "Come on, Glaceon! Get up!" cheered Blaziken. Glaceon shook her head and tried to regain focus.

Meanwhile, off in the distance, Vespiquen was flying high above the treetops, searching for either May or Drew. Munchlax remained on the ground. "You're lucky I can fly, fat one!" Vespiquen told him. "Otherwise, both you and I would be stuck out in the middle of nowhere."

"Can you see them?" asked Munchlax.

"Wait just a moment," she replied. She looked all around, but all she could see were trees, far-off mountains, and the occasional wild Pokémon.

But then, at the corner of her eye, she could see a Pokémon battle taking place. With what appeared to be a bright blue colliding with a bright green, she immediately recognized the two shapes Bayleef and a Glaceon.

"What is it?" Munchlax asked. "Did you find something?"

"I think I see a Glaceon," Vespiquen replied.

"You do?!" Munchlax asked, relieved. "Wait...is it May's Glaceon?"

"I doubt there would be any other Glaceon in the wild!" snapped Vespiquen.

Glaceon slowly made her way back onto her feet. "Hurry Bayleef, use Body Slam!" Bayleef leaped into the air and crushed Glaceon, flattening her like an anvil. May grew worried as Bayleef squashed Glaceon.

"Well, this particular Glaceon is losing her battle against a Bayleef...so yes. I'm pretty sure this is May's Pokémon," Vespiquen answered.

Vespiquen then hovered back down to Munchlax's level. "Really? That was the fruit of her training?" questioned Vespiquen. "Please…"

"You just haven't seen her new moves yet," defended Munchlax.

"She's losing to a Bayleef...a Pokémon in which she has an advantage over. I'm sure no new moves is going to sway me."

"I'm telling you, Vespiquen. Glaceon has really improved these past few days!" praised Munchlax. "Watch! If we hurry, we can probably see Glaceon in action."

Vespiquen took a deep breath. "Very well then," she sighed, exhausted. Vespiquen then took off flying towards where she saw the battle taking place. "Come! This way!" she said.

"Hey! Wait for me!" shouted Munchlax, as he ran to catch up with Vespiquen.

Glaceon lied on the ground, her body numb from Bayleef's Body Slam. "Quick! Use Synthesis!" Drew shouted.

While Glaceon's body feeling like jelly, Bayleef lifted her head up towards the sun. She sighed a breath of relief as she absorbed the sunlight, her body giving off a heavenly glow. Bayleef could feel her body being reinvigorated with energy. "What do you think, May?" boasted Drew. "Still want to continue on with this battle? I don't mind. As long as the sun is out, Bayleef can battle for as long as she want."

May analyzed the battlefield. Bayleef's Body Slam did quite a number on Glaceon, while Bayleef was acting as if she had just been out into the battle for the first time.

"So...as long as the sun is out, Bayleef can use Synthesis, huh?" May thought. "Well then, there's one thing to do. Glaceon is going to have to block out the sun with Hail!"

At last, Glaceon got back onto her feet, ready to fight again. "Alright Glaceon, it's time to fight back! Use Hail, now!"

Glaceon began creating an energy ball. "Oh no you don't!" replied Drew. "Use Razor Leaf!" Without hesitation, Bayleef quickly unleashed another Razor Leaf attack, stopping Glaceon and forcing her to cancel her attack as she dodged the attack. "Vine Whip, now!"

Bayleef extended two Vine Whips from her neck and reached for Glaceon. "Glaceon, fight it off with Iron Tail!" May shouted. Before Bayleef could wrap her Vine Whips around Glaceon, Glaceon snapped her tail forward, blocking Bayleef's Vine Whips.

"Come on, Glaceon!" cheered Wartortle.

May looked to the side of the field where her other Pokémon were cheering. However, she noticed that one particular Pokémon was missing from the group. "Wait, where's…" she muttered. She frantically turned back to the field. "Wait! Stop the battle!" May shouted.

Bayleef and Glaceon stopped dead in their tracks and turned to May, wondering what was up with her. "What's going on?" Drew asked. "Don't tell me you're forfeiting."

"No, it's not that," replied May. She looked at her Pokémon. "Guys, where's Munchlax?"

The other Pokémon finally realized their little rotund friend had disappeared. "Munchlax?" Quilava asked.

"Where did he go?" said Blaziken.

"I don't know. He was here a minute ago, wasn't he?" added Wartortle.

May frantically rushed over to them. "Guys seriously, where's Munchlax?" she asked, worriedly.

"We don't know," answered Blaziken. "Maybe he walked off somewhere."

"Well then, he couldn't have gone far," added Wartortle. "He hates walking."

Vespiquen quickly flew towards where she saw the battle taking place. Munchlax was desperately trying to keep up with her. He panted very heavily as he struggled to catch up. He could feel his feet about to give way. "Come on! Keep up with me, will you?!" scolded Vespiquen. "If you insist on lagging on, then May will leave us both behind!"

Vespiquen was suddenly interrupted when she bumped into something, causing her to crash headfirst into the dirt. It turned out to be a small Pidgey. Vespiquen lunged at the Pidgey and pushed it to the ground.

"Watch where you're going next time!" she scolded.

"Me?!" snapped the Pidgey. "How about you watch where you're going, buzz brain?!"

"Buzz brain!?"

Just then, an exhausted Munchlax appeared on the scene. "Oh good, you finally decided to stop," he panted. He arrived just in time to see Vespiquen attacking the Pidgey. "Whoa, whoa, whoa! What are you doing?!" he asked, confused.

Munchlax ran over to the Pidgey. "Are you okay?" he asked, worried. "Vespiquen, what did you do that for?"

"Buzz brain, indeed," she replied. "Serves him right!"

Suddenly, a Pidgeotto landed right beside the two Pokémon. "Hey!" it called out angrily.

"And what do you want?" Vespiquen asked, sternly. "Do you wish to suffer the same fate as this bird of no worth?"

"That's my baby boy you just roughed up!" Pidgeotto said.

"What's your point?" Vespiquen replied.

Pidgeotto squinted her eyes menacingly at Vespiquen. Munchlax was intimidated by intense stare, but Vespiquen remained unfazed. Suddenly, the Pidgeotto she let out a loud, deafening trill that pierced the air like a needle. Vespiquen and Munchlax covered their ears as the sound echoed throughout the woods. Then, things became eerily quiet.

The silence was soon broken by the sound of fluttering wings. Munchlax and Vespiquen were surprised to see several dozens of Pidgeottos and Spearows suddenly appear around them. Then, a large Pidgeot suddenly swooped down and landed in front of them. All of them glared at the two Pokémon. Vespiquen presumed this Pidgeot to be the leader of the pack. "Oh dear," worried Vespiquen.

"Oh great, look what you did now!" scolded Munchlax. He then cautiously approached the Pidgeot. "Uh, hi! I like to apologize for my friend's behavior. You see it's been a long week for her, and she-"

"Silence!" boomed Pidgeot, raising his wing. His voice scared Munchlax a bit. "I remember you two! Yes...I remember you well."

"You do?" Vespiquen asked, confused.

"You two were part of the team that attacked us on Route 44!" clarified Pidgeot. "We had to relocate because of you and that girl's Jolteon!"

Munchlax and Vespiquen then remembered what he was talking about. A few days ago, May and Glaceon were attacked by a group of wild Pokémon, particularly the Pidgey evolution line. The entire team was brought out to fight, but they were soon overwhelmed. If it weren't for Valerie and her Jolteon, they would have fallen to these feathered fiends. It looked as if the Pidgey line hasn't forgotten that incident. "Oh right! That," remembered Vespiquen.

"Look, we don't want to cause anymore trouble," pleaded Munchlax.

"Is that so?" interrupted Pidgeot. "You say this and yet once again you go and attack one of our own?!"

"That was her, not me!" replied Munchlax. "Listen, we just got lost from our trainer and we are trying to get back to her!"

"Oh, are you now?" replied Pidgeot.

Pidgeot looked up to the sky. He scratched his neck with his right wing, thinking hard about the situation. "I see," he contemplated. He then focused back onto the two Pokémon in front of him. "Well then, if you two are lost, how about we give you a...bird's-eye view?!"

The birds then spread their wings. Munchlax gulped. "Uh oh," he whimpered.

Suddenly, Pidgeot and all of the Pidgeotto flapped their wings vigorously, kicking up dirt and sand from off the ground and creating a vicious windstorm. The wind was strong enough to lift Vespiquen and Munchlax up high above the ground and send them spiraling around in the mid-air. The birds kept flapping their wings and the gust grew stronger. Pidgeot then charged at the two Pokémon and attacked them both with Steel Wing! The impact was strong enough to send Vespiquen and Munchlax flying far out into the forest, away from the birds.

The birds laughed as they soared disoriented into the sky. "And don't you ever come back!" boomed Pidgeot.

"Munchlax!" called out Drew.

"Munchlax!" shouted Glaceon.

Everyone looked all around the battlefield, calling out Munchlax's name, hoping that he would respond. "Munchlax, where are you?!" May asked, worriedly. "Oh, how could I have not noticed that he disappeared? If hadn't been so fixated on the battle…"

"Relax May," interrupted Drew. "It wasn't your fault. And I'm sure we'll find him soon. We just have to keep looking!"

"It's not he could have gone far anyway," said Quilava.

"I wonder how he managed to disappear without any of us knowing?" Blaziken asked, scratching his head.

"It doesn't matter. I'm sure he'll turn up soon," said Wartortle.

Just then, the sound of faint screaming echoed through the air. "Do you guys hear something?" Drew asked. Everybody frantically looked around, wondering where the sound was coming from. It grew louder and louder.

Before anyone realized it, Munchlax and Vespiquen suddenly appeared from the sky and landed on top of Wartortle! Everyone was very surprised to suddenly see them fall from the sky. "Ooh...my head," groaned Munchlax.

"Lousy birds," complained Vespiquen.

"Munchlax? Vespiquen?" May asked, surprised by their sudden appearance.

Munchlax looked around him and realized that he and Vespiquen had landed right where May and her Pokémon were training. Munchlax couldn't help but smile. "Hey, look Vespiquen!" he said, happily. "We made it back to May! Talk about convenient!"

"Get off me!" Wartortle said as he stood up. The other Pokémon crowded around the two Pokémon, happy to see that Munchlax was safe.

May kneeled down and examined the two Pokémon carefully. "Are you two okay?" she asked, worriedly.

"A few scratches, but nothing too serious," answered Vespiquen.

"What she said," said Munchlax.

"Munchlax, what happened? And where did you go?" asked May.

"And why did you take Vespiquen with you?" added Glaceon.

"More importantly, why did you bring her back?" sneered Wartortle.

"Sorry guys," replied Munchlax. "I didn't mean to make you guys worry. I just thought I would talk to Vespiquen privately and convince her to talk to May. She's been in her Poké Ball forever and nobody was doing anything about it. I'd figure it would be better if we were alone."

"And then you got us lost," added Vespiquen."What a smart idea that was."

Everyone groaned. "That's Vespiquen for you," Quilava sighed. "Even when you do something nice for her, she still has to complain about it."

"Well, I'm just glad that both of you are okay," said May.

May then realized something. "Wait a minute, Vespiquen! You're finally out of your Poké Ball!" she said, shocked.

"Nice of you to finally notice," sneered Vespiquen.

"I'm glad that you are. Because...I wanted to talk to you."

May hesitated for a moment. She was still worried about how Vespiquen would react. Nonetheless, she swallowed her pride and carefully approached her. She grew worried once Vespiquen turned and looked at her with menacing eyes. She couldn't help but notice Vespiquen clenching her claws, as she was ready to turn May's face into a cutting board. Nonetheless, she pressed on. "S-So, about the things I said before," stammered May.

"Yes? I'm listening," Vespiquen said, her voice sounding annoyed.

"Um...well," stammered May. She then took a deep breath. "Listen, about what I said...I'm...I'm sorry. I don't mean a single word of it. I was just stressed out about the contest."

"Oh really?" thought Vespiquen. "Is that how you deal with stress? Take it out on your Pokémon?"

Nevertheless, Vespiquen listened carefully to every word that came out of May's mouth. "It's just," continued May. "I was trying really hard to get myself and Glaceon ready for the next contest. I don't want to lose another contest, especially not to Valerie after what she did to Glaceon. I mean, you can understand, right? I want to show her that my Eevee evolution can defeat any of her Eevee evolutions any day. And Glaceon has gotten better and better. It just doesn't seem right to just suddenly stop now."

As May pleaded her case, Vespiquen stood in front of her silently. The other Pokémon were curious as to how this will all turn out. It was hard to predict what she was feeling at that moment. "I don't think you're a useless Pokémon, Vespiquen. And I understand why you want to be in the next contest and I think you would be a strong opponent. But for now, it's Glaceon's time. Who knows? Maybe you'll be in the next contest after Mahogany Town. So, will you forgive me?"

May anxiously awaited Vespiquen's response, as did the rest of her Pokémon. For a moment, things were quiet between them. Vespiquen only gave a stern look at May. It looked as if she was still angry at May.

Before Vespiquen could answer, Drew suddenly spoke up. "Hey Vespiquen, how about this?' he said. "The next time May enters a contest or a gym battle, you'll be the first Pokémon she uses." He looked at May. "That seems fair, right?" he asked.

"Umm...y-yeah, sure!" agreed May. "Next contest or gym battle, I'll be sure that you're the first Pokémon I use!"

Vespiquen was still contemplating her decision. Just then, Quilava stepped in and deliver her two cents on the matter. "Come on Vespiquen," she said, "Remember back in the Ice Path when you asked me to forgive you for attacking me. If I was willing to forgive you, then maybe you have it in you to forgive May."

"Yeah really," added Wartortle. "Besides the contest is tomorrow anyway. No point in keeping up this vendetta of yours."

Vespiquen continued pondering. Everyone awaited her response. They were all taken by surprise when Vespiquen flew a bit closer to Glaceon. "Huh?" May asked, confused as to what Vespiquen was trying to do.

"There's still one thing that bothers me though," Vespiquen said.

Vespiquen looked Glaceon in the eyes, making her nervous. "Y-Yes? Can I help you?" Glaceon asked.

"You," Vespiquen answered. "I'm still not convinced that you're ready for tomorrow's contest." The other Pokémon groaned. "Seriously?!" Quilava asked, annoyed.

"Oh come on! What else do I have to do to prove that I'm ready?!" Glaceon asked, angrily.

"When I was trying to look for you all, I flew up high and I saw Glaceon's battle against Green Hair's Bayleef," explained Vespiquen. "It appeared that she was losing."

"Of course you would see that," groaned Glaceon.

May moved in to intercept the two, but Drew stopped her. "Hold on," he said. "Let's see what Vespiquen is doing here."

The other Pokémon began defending Glaceon. "Believe it or not, she actually was holding on her against Bayleef," defended Wartortle. "Of course you would have known that had you actually came out of your Poké Ball."

"Never mind!" replied Vespiquen. "Munchlax told me that you have improved greatly in the past few days."

"As a matter of fact, I have!" boasted Glaceon. "Not only did I master Ice Beam, but I can change the weather too, and I can use Iron Tail!"

"Is that so?" asked Vespiquen. "So if that were true…"

Vespiquen then turned her back towards Glaceon. "Then," she continued,"should you and I battle again, you actually would put up a fight this time?"

"Umm...y-yeah! I think so," Glaceon replied, bravely.

"Well then…"

Vespiquen then brandished her claws, as if she was waiting to strike. "What say you prove your worth to me?" challenged Vespiquen.

"Now hold on, she just battled Bayleef a few moments ago," argued Quilava.

"And?" Argued Vespiquen. "If I remember correctly, she has a type advantage against me and she was supposedly holding her own against Bayleef. If she truly has improved, then she should be able to finish me off rather quickly."

"Yeah but…"

"No. She's right," replied Glaceon. Glaceon looked at her other teammates. "It's okay," she assured them. "I think I can go for one more battle."

"Are you sure?" Blaziken asked, worriedly.

"I'm sure. I think after all that I've been through this past week, I think I can beat her this time!"

May stood in the background, trying to make sense of what was going on between her Pokémon. "What's going on?" May asked, trying to figure out what's going on.

"I think I know what's happening," said Drew. "You mentioned that Glaceon and Vespiquen battled each other before, right?"

"Right," confirmed May.

Drew didn't say anything else. But it didn't take long for May to put the pieces together. "Wait...you think Vespiquen wants to battle Glaceon again?" she asked.

Before she could get an answer, her two Pokémon stared each other, ready to battle again. "Yeah...I'm pretty sure that's what Vespiquen wants," answered Drew. "And I think Glaceon is ready to accept the challenge."

May was still unsure, remembering how the last battle between the two went. After that battle, Glaceon was severely beaten and poisoned by Vespiquen. Drew could see the uncertainty written on May's face. "You know, if Glaceon could defeat Vespiquen, then maybe Vespiquen will calm down and lay off the both of you," suggested Drew.

May thought back to all of the training that she and Glaceon have done since the last battle with Vespiquen. With some new moves and techniques at her disposal, she realized that Glaceon might have a shot at beating Vespiquen in a Pokémon battle. "You know, you might be right," May said.

"Of course I am," Drew replied, nonchalantly.

May turned to her Pokémon. "What do you say, Glaceon? Are you willing to battle one more time?" she asked, excitedly. Glaceon nodded her head. "Okay then, let's do it!"

0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0

May and Glaceon took one side of the field, while Vespiquen took the other. Drew stood on the side of the field, acting as the official. "Alright, this'll be a simple, one-on-one battle between Vespiquen and Glaceon," he announced.

"Are you ready Glaceon?" May asked. Glaceon turned her head back and nodded confidently. She then turned back to her opponent. "Ready to lose, Vespiquen?" she taunted.

"Are you kidding me?" Vespiquen replied, snobbishly. "Oh-la-de-da! You learned some new moves and now suddenly you think you're invincible!? Give me a break!"

Vespiquen stared down her opponent. "You know little Glaceon, after our first battle, May and the other Pokémon complained to me that I should have gone easy on you."

She then narrowed her glare at Glaceon. "Well little did they know...I was going easy on you," she murmured in an oily voice. Glaceon continued putting on a brave face as Vespiquen sharpened her claws like one would sharpen a kitchen knife.

Drew raised his hand up in the air. "Alright, let the battle...begin!" he shouted.

"Glaceon, start with Ice Beam!" ordered May.

Glaceon opened her mouth and, without difficulty, fired a powerful Ice Beam at her winged foe. May's Pokémon were impressed by how quickly Glaceon was able to conjure an Ice Beam. All except for Vespiquen, who effortlessly dodged the attack. "Oh, look at that! You finally mastered Ice Beam!" she taunted. "And it only took you several days!"

Vespiquen then flew at Glaceon and bared her claws. She struck Glaceon in the face with a Fury Cutter! The sudden attack managed to knock Glaceon off her feet. "Glaceon, no!" May shouted, worriedly.

Just then, before Glaceon could even touch the ground, Vespiquen surprised everybody by suddenly disappearing! "Hey, where did she go?!" Wartortle asked.

"I didn't know she could do that!" gasped Munchlax.

Vespiquen then quickly reappeared behind Glaceon, ready to deliver another Fury Cutter. "Hurry Glaceon!" May shouted. "Block it with Iron Tail!" Upon hearing her trainer's command, Glaceon snapped her tail forward and clashed with Vespiquen's claw. Her tail glowed magnificently, as it had become as hard as steel. Vespiquen tried to push forward with her claws, but Glaceon managed to overpower her and forced her back. Undeterred by this small setback, Vespiquen continued her onslaught of Fury Cutter attacks, but Glaceon managed to block every attack with Iron Tail. Glaceon moved about the field, blocking each attack like a skilled swordsman. Glaceon even managed to sneak in a few backflips while fighting back.

Vespiquen smirked. "I must admit, you're quite skilled with that Iron Tail of yours," she conceded. "So how long did it take for you to master that move?"

Glaceon angrily charged at Vespiquen, ready to strike with Iron Tail. "That's right…" Vespiquen muttered. "Just a little bit closer…" May watched carefully as Vespiquen analyzed Glaceon's movements. Once she saw Vespiquen lifting her abdomen off the ground, she knew what was about to happen! "Stop Glaceon!" she shouted.

Glaceon was about to attack but she stopped dead in her tracks after she heard May. She then saw why. Vespiquen whipped her body forward and fired purple goo! "Glaceon, dodge now!" she shouted.

Glaceon quickly jumped away and just managed to avoid Vespiquen's Toxic. Everyone gasped at how close Glaceon was to being poisoned again, the good landing only a fingertip away from Glaceon. Glaceon could have sworn that the foul odor has gotten worse since their last battle. Everyone let out a sigh of relief. "That was close," sighed Quilava.

"Glaceon has to be careful," warned Blaziken. "Vespiquen just tried to get into her head to throw her off. If she lets that happen…"

Vespiquen raised her arms up and fired a bright orange Power Gem at her Ice-type foe. "Use Shadow Ball now!"

Glaceon opened her mouth and fired a ball of dark energy at Vespiquen's Power Gem. Both attacks met in the center of the field, cancelling each other out. "Hurry, Ice Beam now!" May shouted. Wasting little time, Glaceon quickly popped off another Ice Beam towards Vespiquen. Vespiquen managed to fly out of the way. Glaceon followed up by shooting another Ice Beam, but Vespiquen avoided that one as well. "Honestly, what good was learning Ice Beam if you can't even hit me with it?" quipped Vespiquen.

Glaceon responded by firing an Ice Beam at Vespiquen, but Vespiquen was too quick for her. At one point, Vespiquen even stood in place as an Ice Beam was coming towards her before she ducked out of the way at the last minute. "Missed me again!" she sang. Tried as she might, Glaceon couldn't land a hit on Vespiquen. Finally, Vespiquen managed to get close enough to Glaceon for her to slash her across the face with another Fury Cutter. "Oh no!" gasped May.

"How utterly pathetic," taunted Vespiquen.

"I told you," said Blaziken. "Glaceon is letting Vespiquen's taunts get to her."

Before Glaceon could get up and fight back, Vespiquen again disappeared and then reappeared besides Glaceon, delivering yet another hellish Fury Cutter! "Well, this is embarrassing," she murmured. She then seemingly teleported again, readying another Fury Cutter. May began to worry. "Glaceon needs to stop Vespiquen and fast!" thought May.

Just then, May then had a plan. She waited and waited until Vespiquen appeared ready to attack Glaceon again. "Glaceon, dodge and use Iron Tail...now!"

Before Vespiquen could react, Glaceon suddenly rolled out of the way of Vespiquen's attack and swung her tail at Vespiquen, unleashing a brutal blow to her chest! Everyone cheered as Vespiquen was sent flying through the air. But May wasn't done yet. "Hurry! Use Shadow Ball!"

Glaceon, hearing her trainer's command, launched a Shadow Ball into the air towards Vespiquen. The Shadow Ball exploded once it made contact with Vespiquen in mid-air. A cloud of smoke erupted! Vespiquen landed on the ground flat on her back.

"Alright, Glaceon!" cheered Wartortle.

"You see what I mean Vespiquen?" remarked Munchlax.

"Maybe I was wrong," Blaziken said. "Looks like Glaceon is keeping her head straight."

Drew looked at the unconscious Vespiquen carefully. May was also concerned about Vespiquen. "Are you okay, Vespiquen?" May asked. Before Drew could call the match, Vespiquen sat up off the ground and shook her head. She then straightened herself out. "Still think I'm not ready for tomorrow's contest?" Glaceon asked.

Vespiquen said nothing. She kept her head down, hiding her eyes from everyone. "Vespiquen?" Glaceon asked, confused. She could see her shoulders quivering and she heard what sounded like faint sobbing. "Vespiquen?" May asked, concerned. Vespiquen then brought her arms up to her face. The quivering in her shoulders began to worse and her sobbing a bit louder.

"Oh no," worried Glaceon.

"Is she...crying?" questioned Munchlax.

"Vespiquen? Crying? I doubt it!" snapped Wartortle.

Glaceon cautiously crept closer to Vespiquen. "Be careful Glaceon," warned Wartortle. "I wouldn't trust her!" Despite Wartortle's warnings, Glaceon walked up to Vespiquen, hoping to figure out what's wrong with her. "Vespiquen, what's wrong?" she asked, softly. Vespiquen didn't answer.

Just as Glaceon leaned to get a good look at her face, Vespiquen suddenly lifted her head up, revealing a menacing glare, but no tears. Glaceon gasped when she realized that she had been duped. But before she could react, Vespiquen flipped her entire body forward and splashed Glaceon in a creamy purple substance! "Oh no!" shouted Quilava.

"I knew it!" added Wartortle.

Glaceon staggered away from Vespiquen, coughing as the terrible odor overwhelmed her. "Talk about dejá vu," taunted Vespiquen.

"Vespiquen, how could you do something like that?!" scolded May. "That was a dirty move and you know it!" Vespiquen only shrugged her shoulders. May looked down at her Glaceon. She had shaken off the goo, but May knew it was only a matter of time before the poison would take effect. "Hang in there Glaceon," she said. "We can still win this battle!" Glaceon nodded her head and dug her feet into the ground, ready to fight.

Vespiquen shook her head disapprovingly. "Look, you and I both know how this will turn out," she said. "Just give up now before the poison weakens you."

"No!" Glaceon shouted, defiantly. "I won't give up!"

"Have it your way then!"

Vespiquen raised her arms up and began firing bright orange Power Gems at Glaceon. "Dodge it, Glaceon!" called May. Glaceon ran around the battlefield, dodging each Power Gem that came her way. "Stop her with Iron Tail!" added May. When Glaceon was close enough, she swung her ironclad tail at Vespiquen, who easily evaded the attack by flying back.

At that moment, Glaceon began to feel queasy. "Oooohh," she groaned. "I don't feel...so good…"

"Oh no! Not already!" worried May. "Just hang in there!"

"Come on Glaceon!" shouted Munchlax. "You can't lose like this!"

"Oh, I think you'll find that she can," commented Vespiquen.

Vespiquen then began preparing another Power Gem. May and Glaceon had to do something to slow down Vespiquen. Vespiquen then fired a large Power Gem at the gradually weakening Glaceon. "Glaceon, dodge and use Hail!"

Glaceon, managing to shake off the Toxic for a bit, quickly jumped out of the way of Power Gem. She then mustered all the energy in her body. Vespiquen prepared for the attack, but was surprised when Glaceon instead fired a glowing energy ball into the sky. The energy ball grew bigger and took the shape of a dark rain cloud. As the cloud rose higher up into the sky, the dark cloud grew bigger. Eventually, the cloud blocked out the sunlight and encompassed the whole field. "What's this now?" Vespiquen asked, confused.

"Oh boy, here we go again," Drew muttered, remembering the last time Glaceon used Hail. He then lifted his jacket over his head.

May's other Pokémon grew worried as well. "Oh no, what do we do?!" Munchlax asked, frantically.

"Quick, everybody under Flygon's wing!" Blaziken shouted.

May's other Pokémon and Roselia followed suit and hid under Flygon's wing, much to his confusion. Soon, it began to snow. Then, the snow gave way to large balls of hail. The hail began pouring heavily onto the field, battering Vespiquen. Some of the hail also hit Drew and the Pokémon. Vespiquen tried shielding herself from the storm by holding her arms up over her head, but it didn't do much good. Being an Ice-type Pokémon, Glaceon wasn't harmed by the large hail. The other Pokémon weren't hurt either due to hiding under Flygon's wing (although Flygon wasn't so lucky).

Vespiquen looked across the field and through the vicious storm and fog, she could see Glaceon smirking at her. "So this is the fruit of your training?" she asked. "If you truly think that a little bit of snow is going to stop me, you have another thing coming!"

Vespiquen lunged at Glaceon, baring her sharp claws again. "You're finished!" she shouted. The poison was really starting to take a toll on Glaceon. She winced as she felt a sharp pain in her stomach. The pain kept from her moving. "Oh no, Glaceon!" worried May.

Glaceon saw Vespiquen coming for her. She took a deep breath...and disappeared in the fog! "Huh?" Vespiquen asked, shocked at her sudden disappearance. Everyone was puzzled by what's going on. "What's going on?" asked Wartortle.

"Glaceon, where did you go?" asked Munchlax.

"I didn't teach her this," thought Wartortle.

"She just disappeared?" added Quilava.

"May, is this another new move that you taught Glaceon?" Drew asked.

"N-no," stammered May. "This is the first time I've seen Glaceon just vanish like that."

Vespiquen looked all around the battlefield, but all she could see was fog and hail. "Glaceon, where have you gone?" she asked, annoyed.

"I'm right here!" called out Glaceon.

"Where's right here?" Vespiquen asked. Vespiquen continued looking for Glaceon, but she was nowhere for be seen.

"May, try calling a move!" suggested Drew.

"Oh! Umm...Glaceon, use Iron Tail!" called May.

Vespiquen's efforts turned frantic as she spun around the field, looking for Glaceon. Glaceon suddenly emerged from the fog and struck Vespiquen from behind with Iron Tail! Vespiquen was sent flying forwards headfirst into the ground. She recovered quickly and tried to attack Glaceon again with another Fury Cutter. Glaceon quickly jumped to avoid the attack...and disappeared again! This frustrated Vespiquen greatly. "Again?!" she asked, angrily.

"I don't know what's going on," thought May, "but whatever it, it's given Glaceon the upper-hand!" Despite not truly knowing what was going on, May and Glaceon continued the battle. "Now use Shadow Ball!" Glaceon faded in from the thick fog and launched a Shadow Ball at Vespiquen. This time, Vespiquen was able to dodge it. With Glaceon in her sight, she launched another Power Gem towards her. Glaceon again vanished and Power Gem missed. "What illusion are you trying to pull?!" snapped Vespiquen.

"Wait...you really can't see me?" Glaceon asked.

"NO!" snapped Vespiquen. "Every time I try to attack, you just vanish into thin air."

"Really?!"

"It's true Glaceon!" called out Munchlax. "We can't see you either!"

Glaceon then let out a small, playful laugh (along with a small cough). "Then this should be really fun!" she taunted.

"Let's see how 'fun' it is when you fall to my Toxic!"

Vespiquen then began firing a barrage of Power Gems all around her! She was trying desperately to hit Glaceon, but to no avail. Meanwhile, Glaceon would continue hiding and then attacking when the opportunity rose.

As Vespiquen and Glaceon continued their cat-and-mouse game, the other Pokémon commented on the battle. "Haha, now it's Glaceon playing mind tricks on Vespiquen! How about that for irony?" Wartortle asked Blaziken.

"But how is Glaceon able to do that?" Blaziken asked. "How can she disappear and reappear at whim just like that?"

"Maybe she's moving so fast that she's too fast for the naked eye!" theorized Munchlax.

"In any case, she better be careful," warned Blaziken. "Vespiquen may be getting hammered by the Hail, but the poison is still getting to Glaceon. Glaceon is going to have to finish off Vespiquen before the poison finishes her off."

As he watched the battle, Drew couldn't help but notice that the scene between Vespiquen and Glaceon looked awfully familiar to him. "Where have I seen something like this happen before?" he thought. He then had a memory pop back into his head. It was back in the Mahogany Town Gym, while May's Glaceon was up against Pryce's Froslass, Froslass pulled the same thing on her and was able to easily defeat her that way. "Does this have something to do with the hail?" he asked himself.

After another Shadow Ball, Vespiquen crash-landed onto the ground. The hail was still pelting her as she struggled to recover. She looked all around and saw that Glaceon had vanished into the hail again. "I can't believe it," thought Vespiquen. "Glaceon is actually bringing me to the point of exhaustion."

"Alright, Glaceon! Finish off Vespiquen with another Iron Tail!" May shouted.

Vespiquen remained on the ground, still trying to gather the energy to continue fighting. Just then, Glaceon appeared right behind Vespiquen. She charged at Vespiquen, her tail hard as steel. But as Glaceon was going in for the attack, the poison in her body began acting up. Glaceon tensed up in pain. She tripped and stumbled a few feet behind Vespiquen. "Oh no!" cried May.

Vespiquen turned around and saw Glaceon having a difficult time trying to recuperate. "Ah-ha! There you are!" she exclaimed, happily. "I got you now!" Vespiquen wasted no time slashing Glaceon with another Fury Cutter. Vespiquen, of course, followed up with an onslaught of Fury Cutter attacks. The poison was overwhelming for Glaceon and she was unable to defend herself from the rush of Fury Cutters. Everyone grew worried as Vespiquen delivered Fury Cutter after Fury Cutter. It was very reminiscent of the last battle between the two Pokémon.

Realizing that things are playing out too similarly for her tastes, Glaceon was determined to not let that be the case. Vespiquen was about to deliver the crushing blow to Glaceon with another Fury Cutter, but Glaceon powered through the almost-unbearable pain and rolled out of the way. She didn't disappear.

Everybody was surprised to suddenly see Glaceon moving so quickly. Remembering their battle against Jahan's Croconaw, May knew she had to act fast. "Ice Beam, now!" she called out.

"Oh no you don't!" Vespiquen said, as she began forming a Power Gem to counter Ice Beam.

With every last bit of strength left in her body, Glaceon fired the most powerful Ice Beam that she could conjure up. At the same time, Vespiquen fired her Power Gem at the oncoming Ice Beam. The two attacks collided in mid-air, creating a great big cloud of smoke in the midst of a vicious hailstorm! Everyone covered their eyes as debris and hail flew in all directions.

Eventually, the smoke cleared, the hail stopped, and the clouds faded away, bringing back the sunlight. Everyone was able to see what had happened on the field. They were all shocked to find an unconscious Glaceon and a Vespiquen frozen inside of ice.

"No way! Glaceon just froze Vespiquen!" Quilava cheered.

Everyone gasped at the large block of ice in which Vespiquen was now imprisoned. "Amazing!" awed Munchlax.

"Yes but," said Blaziken. He then looked down at the unconscious Glaceon. "It looks like the poison from Toxic has taken its toll on Glaceon."

Drew looked at the unconscious Glaceon...and then to the Vespiquen frozen in a block of ice. "I...guess this battle is a draw?" he said, confused as to what to say.

May quickly attended to her Pokémon. Blaziken and Quilava surrounded Vespiquen. "We'll take care of Miss Drama Queen!" Quilava told May. Blaziken pointed to Glaceon. "You better take care of Glaceon," he added.

May kneeled down and examined Glaceon carefully. "Glaceon, are you okay? Say something!" she said, worriedly. Glaceon only let out a pained groan. Drew then walked up and handed May a spray bottle. "Try this Antidote," he said. "That should help her."

"Thank you." May then sprayed Glaceon with the antidote. After a few minutes, Glaceon slowly opened her eyes. Her body still felt sore from the battle, but she felt a lot better and could stand on her own.

Meanwhile, Blaziken and Quilava attended to the frozen Vespiquen. Blaziken tried knocking on the ice. It felt everything strong, like knocking on rock. He looked to Quilava. "Ready?" Blaziken asked Quilava. Quilava responded by igniting her backside in fire. They both took different sides and faced the block of ice that Vespiquen was frozen in. Although they couldn't tell, Vespiquen was starting to become really nervous.

Before the two could use Flamethrower on Vespiquen, Munchlax quickly intervened. "Wait!" he shouted. The two looked at Munchlax as he stood in front of Vespiquen. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and surprised the two by using Focus Punch on the ice. Just then, very large cracks began to form all around the block of ice. It shattered into tiny pieces, freeing Vespiquen inside. "Impressive," commented Blaziken.

Vespiquen shook her head, shaking the snow off her body. "Thank you, fat on-I mean...Munchlax," she said. She then sneezed. She crossed her arms and shivered. "I'm so cold," she said.

"Want me to warm you up?" joked Quilava.

"Take it easy Quilava," warned Blaziken.

Vespiquen then hovered over to Glaceon, who was still exhausted from their battle. She shook her head, trying to regain some sense. "How are you feeling?" Vespiquen asked, courteously.

"A little loopy," answered Glaceon.

"I told you I wasn't going to go easy on you," reminded Vespiquen. "Good thing, too. For once, you actually put up a good fight!"

"You think so?" Glaceon asked, surprised. "So...does that mean...you think I'm good enough for the contest?"

Vespiquen turned her head away. "Let's just say," she began,"with that new magic trick of yours...you might have a fair shot at winning."

Glaceon smiled proudly. After a very long week, she was so pleased to finally hear one of her biggest detractors praise her. "Thanks Glaceon!"

"But I never said you were better than me!" Vespiquen added, frantically.

"Uhhh...no one said that she was," mentioned Blaziken.

Vespiquen then hovered over to May. She looked her right in the eyes. "And as for you…" she said, addressing May.

"Y-Yes?" stammered May.

May was worried about Vespiquen would do. For a moment, all Vespiquen did was hover in her face and stare at her. She was surprised when Vespiquen pattered her on her right shoulder. "Let's agree to disagree," she said. She then flew back and joined May's other Pokémon. "Ummm...okay?" May said, puzzled by Vespiquen's actions. "So...does this mean that everything is okay now between Vespiquen and me?"

"Well...she didn't cut you in the face and it seems everything is okay between her and Glaceon as well," said Drew. "I think it's safe to say that everything will be alright."

May watched as Vespiquen spoke with the others. Her body language seemed a bit more calm and relaxed than it had been earlier in the week. She let out a sigh of relief. It seemed as if everything was back to normal (for the most part). "Well...if everything's alright with Vespiquen, then how about we call it a day early and get some rest for tomorrow!"

The other Pokémon ecstatically agreed.

Once Vespiquen and Glaceon had recovered most of their strength, May and Drew began making their way back to the Mahogany Town Pokémon Center. On the way, May looked up Glaceon's entry on her PokéDex.

Glaceon

The Fresh Snow Pokémon and one of the evolved forms of Eevee

Glaceon has the ability to control its own body heat. By doing so, it can utilize its special ability Snow Cloak, allowing Glaceon can easily evade attacks while in a snowstorm or hailstorm.

"So that's what it was!" exclaimed May.

"That explains why Glaceon was able to appear and disappear like she did in her battle with Vespiquen," said Drew.

"Then how come she wasn't able to do that before until now?" questioned May.

"Maybe she didn't know she could do it," answered Drew. "In any case, between Hail and Iron Tail, you got another move to surprise your opponents with in the contest."

"You got that right!"

May then pumped her fist, feeling more and more excited for tomorrow. "Just wait until Glaceon pulls that on Valerie and her Pokémon!" she boasted. May then thought of something. "Huh...I wonder if Jahan knew about Glaceon's ability?" she asked herself. "Maybe that's why he was so persistent on me teaching Glaceon Hail."

May then thought back to everything Jahan had done since they have arrived in Mahogany Town, from escorting her to the Pokémon Center to applauding her victory against Pryce to offering her advice for Glaceon. "You know, for being such a rude jerk," she said, "I would have never thought that he would be a great help these past few days."

"Well...I still wouldn't depend on him," commented Drew. "And don't forget I helped too!"

"I know that!" May replied, frantically. "Without your Absol's help, I don't think Glaceon would have gotten the hang of using Iron Tail."

"That's right! And don't you forget it!" boasted Drew.

May rolled her eyes. "It's not a contest Drew," she said. "I appreciate it whenever anybody helps me or gives me advice, whether it's you, Ash, my dad, or even a jerk like Jahan."

"It just seemed like you've been getting a lot of help from Jahan lately."

"And?" Questioned May. "His advice really helped me out, like in Blackthorn City when I was having trouble with Cyndaquil and you gave me advice on how to tame her."

Drew remembered back in Blackthorn City when May's Quilava was only a Cyndaquil and didn't like her trainer very much. "Yeah...I remember that," he said.

"I just think Jahan's starting to come around," continued May. "I don't know if it's because he lost Tyranitar or because maybe he's finally starting to grow up, but he seems to be getting kinder."

"And yet he still insults us whenever he has the chance to."

"Well, he's not going to change completely in a day. I mean, you weren't exactly friend material either when we first met."

May then had a thought. "Actually, Jahan kinda reminds me a lot of you," she said.

"What?! Oh get real!" he fumed. "I was nothing like that jerk."

"Oh really," May said, raising an eyebrow. "You didn't insult me and call me names? You didn't berate everything I did? You didn't eventually loosen up?"

"Y-yeah w-w-well," blushed Drew, "you have to admit. As bad as I was, me at my worst was still better than Jahan at his best."

May laughed. She looked up to the sky, which was slowly turning orange from the sunset. "Yeah, maybe you're right about that."

While they were talking, May's other Pokémon were having their own conversation. "So...I've been meaning to ask you this Munchlax," said Glaceon. "When you took off with Vespiquen's Poké Ball, what exactly did she say?"

Before Munchlax could answer, Vespiquen quickly cut him off. "We spoke of nothing!" she said, hastily. "He opened my Poké Ball, got us lost, and it was up to me to find out way back! The end!"

"Oh come on now," replied Wartortle. "What was so important that you could only tell Munchlax and not us?"

"If you wanted to know so bad, then how come you didn't try consoling me?" asked Vespiquen. "I remained inside my Poké Ball for days and not one of you tried talking to me?"

"Well, we thought…" said Quilava

"Yeah, and you thought wrong," interrupted Vespiquen. "Figures that when May spoke to me like she did, none of you did a thing to console me. But if Glaceon so much as stubbed her paw, everyone comes rushing to her aid, kissing her wound and pampering her as if she were the most important Pokémon in the world!"

"You know, she has a point," chimed in Munchlax.

"You're friends now?" Wartortle asked.

"Aren't we all? We're on the same team," explained Munchlax. "And she's right. None of you guys tried anything to help her."

"We just thought she would have been too stubborn to try to reason with," replied Quilava.

"Well it wouldn't have hurt to try!" scolded Munchlax.

Munchlax then remembered when Vespiquen slashed him across the face. "Well okay, maybe it would have hurt a little bit, but you guys could have at least tried," he said. Vespiquen respectfully patted Munchlax on the head. "Thank you...friend," she said. Munchlax couldn't help but rub the back of his neck nervously.

Now everyone felt a bit guilty about the way they treated Vespiquen. "I guess we did drop the ball a little bit with Vespiquen, didn't we?" Quilava asked, mournfully.

"After the way she treated Glaceon?" replied Wartortle.

"Well, I mean it wasn't like Glaceon wasn't showing any progress from what I saw before," defended Vespiquen.

"Guys, come on," pleaded Glaceon. "It's the end of the week. Vespiquen and I put that behind us now. Can't we all just make up and be friends?"

Wartortle and Quilava swallowed their pride. "Fine," they said, "We're sorry, Vespiquen."

"I accept your apology," replied Vespiquen.

"Good!" Glaceon said, happily. "Now let's forget about all this and look forward to the contest!"

The Pokémon continued on their way, walking behind their trainer. But then, Blaziken spoke up. "Now hold on," he said, sternly. "There is something that I want to know."

"Huh? What's that?" Vespiquen asked, somewhat annoyed.

"I'm just curious," asked Blaziken, "why were you so hesitant on being in this next contest?"

Vespiquen only scoffed. "What's the point of telling you?" replied Vespiquen. "It's not like anything I say is going to change things."

"I think what Blaziken wants to know," clarified Quilava, "is why even after not getting picked, you still really want to get this into contest?"

"Well how come you weren't mad about not being picked?" Vespiquen asked Quilava. "Didn't May promise that you would be in this next contest?"

Quilava remembered that in the last contest back in Blackthorn City, May did promise to use her for the next contest. "W-w-well," stammered Quilava."I mean I was kind of mad that I wasn't picked again for the contest, but once I realize May's intentions, I got over it."

"Well at least May picked you for her two gym battles!" reminded Vespiquen. "But has she picked me for any gym battles or contests?"

May's Pokémon thought about it for a moment. "Actually, come to think of it, she hasn't put you in a contest or a gym battle," said Wartortle.

"Well she's only been on our team for a few weeks or so," mentioned Blaziken. "Not to mention that you would've been weak against Pryce's Pokémon."

"You know, it's funny you say considering I managed to hold my own against Glaceon," reminded Vespiquen.

"Trust me, Pryce's Pokémon were no push-overs," said Wartortle.

"I'm sure I could still beat them," boasted Vespiquen.

"Look, May said in the next gym battle or contest, you would be the first Pokémon she uses," Blaziken said. "Maybe then you'll show May how much of a powerful asset you really are."

"Oh trust me, whether it be a gym battle or a contest, whichever opponent I face next will see my true strength!" gloated Vespiquen.

"We'll see," replied Wartortle

Once the group had reached the entrance to Mahogany Town, Glaceon leaned in a little closer to Vespiquen. "You know I tried to talk to you earlier in the week after May said those awful things to hear," Glaceon said. "Guess you didn't hear me."

Vespiquen only shrugged her shoulders. "Never mind that," she replied. "At this point, you should be more worried about the contest. Listened to me, you have shown me and anyone else watching that you have gotten stronger and could actually win the ribbon for May. After our battle, you should not disappoint me or May."

"I won't!" Glaceon replied, bravely.

Glaceon then thought back to the past week. Like a slideshow in her mind, she began recalling all the past events: her first battle with Vespiquen, battling a bunch of Pokémon, being swarmed by Bird Pokémon, finally learning Ice Beam, breaking a rock with Iron Tail, all her secret late night sessions with Wartortle, her battles with Quilava to overpower Sunny Day…

She felt grateful for all the help she had gotten these past few days. "So many people have helped me, even when everything looked hopeless! Wartortle, Blaziken, Quilava, Munchlax, and even you Vespiquen...Bayleef, Absol, and Croconaw too, I'm grateful to have you all as friends."

Just then, an image of Valerie taunting her appeared in her mind alongside her Jolteon and Flareon, snickering and laughing at her. A fiery sensation spread through Glaceon's cold body. "And then there's her!" she thought. "Hopefully I'll be able to teach her and her Pokémon a lesson!"

Glaceon then looked up to her trainer. "After everything I've been through this week, after learning so many new moves and techniques, after all the losses and beatings, I refuse to go down easily!"

Glaceon then charged ahead of the other Pokémon and even May. She surprised everybody doing so. "Glaceon, what are you doing?" asked May. Glaceon didn't answer. She could see the town in sight. Looming above the other buildings was the Mahogany Town Contest Hall, decorated in ribbons and banners for tomorrow's event. "Just you wait everybody! The next time you see me, it'll be in front of a roaring crowd. It'll be me and May, with May holding up her new ribbon that I won for her! I vow to win!"

A/N: Took a little bit longer than expected, but chapter 36 is finally done! More importantly, the week of training has at long-last come to a conclusion. Man, it seemed like it took forever to finish this story arc up. I want to apologize to anyone who felt that it dragged the story down. Admittedly, it did. I didn't think so many things would get in the way. But it's done and over with now, and we can finally get to the Mahogany Town Contest!

So fun fact, I had several different ideas for the ending of this chapter, from another mass bird Pokémon attack to rescuing Valerie from said birds. Ultimately, I went with a simpler ending to avoid bogging down the story any further. I hope you guys enjoyed it just as much as I did writing it. And thank you all for being so patient with me the past two years! And thanks once again to RagingDragon04 for helping to move production along.
