Author's Note: I'll be updating a few more chapters today, but I'm sad to say it will be the last of OOF. There is a sequel that is completed outside of Fanfiction, so I might go ahead and put up the first chapter of that, but I'm not sure. I might wait a few days...
KillerKarebear: Oh, you're good. =3 I can't disclose too much, but since there's a sequel there's obviously a reason for the groups to join back up. And shit gets hairy in the sequel... Too many secrets, too much drama... You know, the normal high school setting. I just love playing with Kimmy and her team too much... Does that make me evil? Just a bit... . Heh. Thank you for the positive feedback, sweetie!
Elf10444: O.O Let's see if I can properly reply to your entire review, shall we? Lack of internet? I would have died a little inside. T_T I'm an internet junkie. If I'm not home on the laptop, I'm probably doing something related on my phone. -twitches like an addict- XD I don't expect you to review every chapter; in fact, I kind of like the one long review. It might be a little harder (I might be loopy from insomnia right now) to get to everything you put in one long review, but I'm trying. XD I didn't want things to be too OOC, so Hyotei being beat was one thing, whereas it is something entirely different to beat Seigaku. Also, to drag Paige away from facing Tezuka would have been just nasty of me. I think of it as closure, you know? From the very beginning (mind you, I wrote this story years ago and have done only a small bit of editing to it) when I first wrote this, I had planned on making Kimmy and Syusuke face one another. It was a necessary evil- even though he crushed her- and I enjoyed the torture. XD I think I've gotten to the entirety of your review, yes? No? Anyways, thank you for the HUGE positive feedback! XD I hope you like the new few updates!
Chapter Thirty-Seven:
The Sports Banquet
"I'm ready!" I appeared from my room in an oriental dress of black I had bought just for this occasion. "How do I look?"
"As gorgeous as ever." Tiffany also wore an oriental dress, though hers was red instead of black.
This past week had been spent at home, unable for most of us to move. I was one of those people, in fact my entire team was pretty much useless. We even had to take our final exams here at home thanks to the strain we had put on ourselves. The school did little to protest, all having witnessed the monumental game.
"My legs feel like jelly still," I whined as I massage my thighs. "I don't think it'll ever go away!"
"With that match, I'd expect it not to!" she grinned. "I wonder when that news lady is going to snatch you away tonight to announce who you like."
"Don't know, but if she didn't see the hug or the kiss at the game then she's an idiot," I sweat-drop. "I hate this stuff," I lightly put black mascara on my lashes.
"The guys are here! Let's go!" Coach Lilly hollers up the staircase. "Before they start killing each other please!"
All of the girls meet in the hallway, like normally, and we file down the stairs and into the living room.
Keigo stood out the most as he was in front, "Come, let's get to the limos."
"Limos? And what are you doing here Keigo-sama?"
"Ore-sama couldn't possibly let a group of ladies walk, now could he?"
Well, he could be valiant when he wanted!
"We'll be out there in a minute, Keigo-sama."
"I'm going to leave. There's two out there for the girls going with Rikkaidai-" he scoffs, "-and the girls going with Seigaku."
He kisses my hand and leaves as I look over at the guys there.
Syusuke was dressed in a baby blue tuxedo, and he looked dazzling. I wished with all my heart that it were he I was going with, but nonetheless I was a woman of my word and I was going with Kirihara.
"You look beautiful," Kirihara smiles at me, the normal devilish side calm and his friendly side here and as sweet as ever. "Shall we?"
"We shall," I glanced over at Syusuke to see him nod, meaning he was alright with this. I gratefully smile while heading out to the limo.
Bunta, wearing a greenish tuxedo enters with Harmony, who was wearing a plain white dress. Yagyuu was not as formal as the others, for he wore a white button up shirt, a vest, a nice dress jacket, and a pair of pants. His date, Natalie, looked beautiful in her blue dress, matching his jacket perfectly. Tiffany slides in and then with her date and best friend, Masaharu, who was in a blackish tux.
Everyone looked perfect.
:{Out of Focus}:
The banquet was grand and being hosted in a beautiful ballroom with rich red oriental carpet and black-sheet covered tables that held four people and had a little fixture of red roses and two white candles in the middle, lit magnificently. The chandelier of more than I could ever hope to make in my lifetime, shown with the lights.
"Welcome to the banquet! We'd like to welcome all of you. You all did amazing in the tournament!" Every team, yes all thirty-two, were here, "Tonight we're going to award the top five teams with these beautiful trophies." I did not care to know about what side matches were going on to determine who earned what place, but obviously all of it had been settled.
"As you know, there was a big battle off for fifth place, but the final team was decided," the man smiled, "In fifth place, the Rikkaidai Regulars!"
"You're in the top five!" I hugged Kirihara as he goes up to the stage with the rest of the team, holding their trophy and smiling. Even Yukimura was up there at last, able to stand tall with his team and get a picture. They take their seats once more.
"In fourth place, the Screaming Perils!" The French team stood and hurry to the stage. I liked their team for one reason- they had two girls on it.
"In third place... the Hyotei Regulars!"
Atobe proudly stands, girls swooning as he glided past them. I only giggled to myself; he was a laugh riot. They get their pictures, Atobe standing out the most with his sense of superiority and beauty, taking their trophy with them.
Atobe kept it at his table.
"All of you know the last match was the greatest of this entire tournament." People mutter their agreements. "The Harrix Vipers and the Seigaku Regulars dueled it out for countless hours. We saw things we never knew or expected of normal teenaged players and multiple sponsors want to make some of them professionals as they come of age. Unfortunately, it will only be for some of the top teams."
I grow wide-eyed, excited. Sponsorships...
"If I call your name then I'd like you to come up here to get contracts from a few major tennis sponsors. They won't be legal until you come of age, but they'll need your numbers and contacting information."
I was ecstatic! Just think... being a professional... But it would not come true until I turned eighteen, providing I did get one.
"Tezuka Kunimitsu!" No surprise there, "Fuji Syusuke!" I cheered for him as he goes to the stage, standing with Tezuka. "Echizen Ryoma!" Expected. "Kikumaru Eiji and Oishi Shuichiro as Doubles!" Not as expected, but not unexpected either. "Castille Kimmy!" I jump up and walk to the stage with a big smile. The cheering continues. "Skylar Serenity!" Even if we had lost, they had seen our skills obviously. "Aikens Paige and Martin Tiffany!" Whoa, did not see that coming! It made me happy nonetheless. A few more names are called, Keigo included with a few Rikkaidai players and others from various teams. "These boys and girls are Professional Level players!"
Everyone cheers louder, whistling and hollering. Bunta, Masaharu, and a few other people were cat-calling.
We give our information to them and get our contracts, being told to keep them until the day came that we came of age.
We sit down, though I did not see the point. We were about to be called up again anyways.
"In second place, the Harrix Vipers!"
We get up... again... and accept our trophy, grinning silly ones with it as our picture is taken. I sit back down with the trophy, the honor being mine as they had said.
"And in first place, barely pulling ahead of the Vipers... The Seigaku Regulars!"
I clap loudly and wolf-whistle at them. Kikumaru winks at me then blows a little kiss to Serenity. Uh huh... I knew they liked each other!
"Ah, alright! We're done, so if you want you may continue eating or get up and mingle!"
"So Kimmy-hime, as you're now being called, who is the boy you like?" Shia had caught me in the middle of getting something to drink in the far left of the room. The camera was rolling behind her.
"Were you at the final match?"
"Yes, we televised it live."
"Then you probably saw me share a hug and later a kiss in front of everyone with a boy," I smiled, warmed by just the memory.
"So is this the boy you like?"
"I think I might like him more than that even," I chuckled. "But whose to know? It might just be 'Foreign Love'. Or it might be one of those things I'll always regret not continuing when I leave. All I know is Fuji Syusuke is my first and last 'Foreign Love'. I'll never love someone like I believe I do him." I shrugged, bowing and walking away from them, letting those be my final words.
"I heard that," Syusuke twirls me to him, smiling as he normally does. "So you love me huh?"
I look down, as red as can be. "I-"
"You don't have to say it again." He kisses my forehead. "We're going to the Kawamura Sushi place tomorrow around four. I'll be there to get you then. Get back to your date."
I nodded, heading back over to Kirihara and laughing as I see he had steak sauce on his face thanks to Bunta playing with him.
Gazing about the room, I notice how happy my team looked. Inui and Aylin were talking, their eyes glazed with evil as they sat close, devising new concoctions. Kikumaru was making his date, Serenity, dance to no music between the tables, but she was laughing like she had never laughed before. Paige and Tezuka had gone outside long ago, finally able to be alone and talk again. He had asked her to this the night we played them. Momoshiro was making his date, Trinity, giggle.
Harmony and Bunta were messing with Kirihara since they were sitting with me and him at the four-seated table. They were holding hands as they did so. Masaharu was impressing Tiffany with some magic tricks that were failing horribly. She was in stitches, clutching her sides and laughing. Natalie was speaking with Yagyuu and both were all smiles, a chuckle here and there.
"Dress nicely tomorrow Kimmy!" Kikumaru purrs as he twirls Serenity near our table, still dancing. "We're getting oodles of pictures."
"Alright," I giggled as he goes back to humming a tune. "Have fun Serenity!"
"I've never had this much fun in my life!" She was really laughing harder than I had ever seen.
"Care for a dance?" Atobe appears out of nowhere, his pink tux and purple under-shirt matching his hair.
"You're all nuts, but why not?" I grinned, taking his hand.
Next in 'Out of Focus':
They had yet to leave, but all the girls from the Harrix Vipers knew that it was going to be hard. The day before they have to leave Japan for good, a day meant to be spent packing away all of their things, was one of sadness. To break a woman's heart is one thing, but for so many to be broken in one house was earth-shattering. A sobbing mess of teenage girls was one thing Coach Lilly couldn't handle. So, she calls in reinforcements...
