Alexis waited impatiently in the master bedroom of Wyndemere for Sam to come up to speak to her. Nik had followed his aunt up the stairs and decided to hide away in a cove next to the bedroom in earshot of what she might have to say to Sam.
Sam opened the bedroom door and stuck her head in first to make sure it was safe to join Alexis.
"Come in." Alexis beckoned to Sam to sit next to her on the edge of the bed.
"I told everyone you were tired and going to lie down. Was that ok?" Sam had yet to sit down.
Alexis took Sam's hand in hers and pulled her down to sit. "I have something that you need to know."
Nik moved in closer to the wall and held his breath.
Alexis took Sam's other free hand and held them both tight. "I hate that you're mourning over Molly when you don't have to…"
"What does that mean?" Sam jerked her hands away and stood up. "I love Molly. I love Kristina. I love you. We're a family. I hate that you lost your baby. I hate that Nik can't stop crying and blames himself. I was there when Molly died and I could have done something to stop it."
Alexis pulled Sam back down next to her. "Sam, please listen to me. I'm not your mother and Stavros…" She paused and watched the horror in Sam's eyes. "I don't know how Stavros could be your father if he's claiming such."
Sam jerked away again and stood up in disbelief. "What are you doing to me Alexis? Why? If you don't want me around just say so…"
"It's not that I don't want you Sam. I do want you. I'd love it if you still wanted to be my daughter. That's what adoptions are for, but it's crazy if I don't tell you the truth. All I ever wanted from my family was the truth."
Sam's body grew weak. She started to sweat.
"Please have a seat." Alexis put her arm around Sam and led her to the bed to lie down. "It sucks. The whole situation sucks."
Sam laid down and looked up at Alexis. "Did Stavros rape you or not?"
Nik pressed his ear tight against the wall.
Alexis grabbed a nearby throw and laid it over Sam. "He did. From what I can remember, he did."
"But you don't remember?" Sam mumbled. She touched her forehead aching with stress.
Alexis sat down. "Yes. Stavros raped me. And I did…I think I had a child. But I know the child isn't you."
"Can we take tests to be sure?"
Alexis reached out and touched Sam's forehead. "Of course we can be sure. I just didn't want any surprises for your sake at least."
Nik heard enough. He stepped out of the cove and hurried down the stairs spotting Zander talking to Luke. He pushed through the crowd still lingering after the ceremony and joined Luke and Zander.
"What's wrong with you?" Luke noticed the determination in Nik's eyes. "You've got that look from when you plotted to murder me one of many times. What I do this time?"
Zander stepped in front of Luke. "Or you got a beef with me?"
"I don't have a beef with either of you. Simmer down." Nik rustled his hair in frustration. "I need the two of you to help me figure out why Stavros would go after Sam."
Zander chuckled. "Because he's her father."
Luke clicked his tongue. "Or not…"
Nik moved in closer to Luke. "What do you know?"
"That Sam isn't Alexis' kid…"
"What?" Zander swirled around to face Luke. "Does Alexis know?"
Luke nodded and popped a cigar in his mouth. "Yeap."
"Does Sam know?" Zander asked.
"Yea." Nik responded and started to look around the room. "I know Stavros is here somewhere."
Luke yanked the cigar from his lips. "I feel the same way. I was getting dressed upstairs and I could smell the evil stench coming from him."
"There's way too many places to hide." Nik groaned and shoved his hands in his pockets. He looked at Zander. "Alexis was telling Sam upstairs that she's not her mother. When Alexis comes down, you can go up. Sam was pretty devastated I think."
Zander took a deep breath. "No thanks. I'm leaving." He stormed away and out the door.
"What's his problem?" Nik asked.
"The usual…lies. It sucks." Luke puffed on his cigar. "You know Nikolas…you should really start to question some things."
Nik slowly turned his dark, sullen eyes to Luke. "What the hell do you mean?"
Luke shrugged his shoulders. "If Stavros is lying to Sam about her parentage, how do you know he's telling you the truth?"
Mac put down the rifle and pulled the gloves from his hands. Anna walked into his office and offered him a coffee.
"I heard you like it black." She smiled.
Mac accepted the coffee. "Only during stressful times."
Anna sat down on Mac's desk and watched him examine the rifle. "And what's to be stressed about right now?"
"I found three sets of prints. One was Lorenzo's. One was Alexis'. And the other was Sam's. I want a warrant issued for Sam's arrest."
Anna groaned. "Now is not the time for that."
"Anna. We gotta haul her in. She's been on our list for a while. By the end of the day, Robert might be able to get proof that Sam has a good aim." Mac sat down at his desk.
Anna turned to face him. "Her sister just died."
"Possibly because of her."
"Does her alibi check out?"
"We've never questioned her whereabouts." Mac kicked up feet up on his desk. "You want to do it or you want me to do it? I want this case closed Anna."
Anna stood up and started to pace. "At the expense of the victim's family? That's ludicrous Mac. Can't we pin this on Jason somehow?"
"Jason might squeal on Sam. Who's picking her up? Me or you?"
Anna grabbed her gun and coffee from Mac's desk. "I'll get her."
Nikolas pulled back from Luke and chuckled. "Ha! You're an old bastard."
"Takes one to know one." Luke puffed his cigar and leaned on the wall.
"Why would Stavros lie to me?"
Luke chocked on his saliva and pulled the cigar from his mouth. "Are you stupid? Stavros has no loyalty to anyone. You think he gives a damn about you? The man needs an heir and you're his best bet. You're his only bet."
"If Stavros isn't my father, so you seem to think, would you be calling my mother a whore?"
Luke took his last puff and eyed Nik. "No. But I'd call you Stefan's son."
Jason raced down the hall of the pediatric ward and to the door of Kristina's room. He cuffed his hands to his face and pressed his forehead against the glass to see Sonny clearly.
Sonny looked up and beckoned Jason in. "What's up?" He asked.
"You missed the funeral. Alexis was clearly upset that you weren't there."
Sonny stood up and signaled Jason to walk outside of Kristina's room with him. "I was with Kristina the whole time. What's her beef?"
Jason shrugged his shoulders. "I'm just the messenger. She wanted you there."
"How was Ric?"
"Shot up, but fairly normal. I can't stay. Sam's getting pulled into the PCPD. What do you want me to do?"
Sonny grabbed at his chin. "Don't say anything."
Jason nodded. "I have a feeling I'm going to get asked who shot and almost killed Zander. I can't hold my tongue for long. I'm not willing to. I have no loyalty to Sam."
Sonny pressed his finger into Jason's chest. "You do the best you can. I don't want Sam implicated in anything."
Jason and Sonny both turned their attention to Lorenzo standing by the elevator doors. He walked over but kept his distance.
"I know the two of you are discussing Sam. No need to worry about her. I'll take care of it."
Sonny laughed. "You'll be sitting in a cell next to her if I let you take care of it."
Lorenzo moved closer. "I mean it Sonny. Stay away from Sam, Anna, and Zander."
Jason raised his eyebrows and crossed his arms but remained tight-lipped.
Sonny quickly glanced at Jason. "Ha! You're gonna need to explain your reasons for caring so much about that trio."
"None of your damn business." Lorenzo walked away.
"Sam!" Anna knocked on the bedroom door. "May I come in?"
Anna heard Sam's voice, weak, on the other side of the door. She turned the knob and walked in to Sam lying on the bed.
"I'm sorry to bother you, but I need to bring you into the police station." Anna moved her gun behind her back as if it would make her less threatening.
Sam sat up on the bed. "How long will this take?"
"If you cooperate, it will be quick."
Sam rubbed her eyes. "What is your reason for arresting me? I'm allowed to know that information."
Anna nodded. "For the murder of Molly Lansing."
Sam stood up and stretched out her arms to Anna. "Are you gonna cuff me?"
"If I don't have to, I'd like to avoid it. I'll even allow you to meet me at the station. I don't want to make a scene in front of your mother.."
Sam dropped her hands to her side. "Fine. This isn't an admission of guilt. I just don't want to fight anymore."
Sam walked past Anna and out the door.
