A year later
Baltimore, Maryland
Jesse smiled as she lay back on the couch. She just came home after pulling a double at work. She returned to work after six months on being on disability. Her leg was still sore at times, but she was lucky she got out of a Jigsaw test without having to amputate it. She had to walk with a cane though, but it didn't matter. She could work still, and it didn't mess with her passion of swimming.
She lived in a small house out in Waverly, which was in the Northern Part of Baltimore (city, not county). Flowers filled the garden beds on both sides in front of the house. They were mostly Foxglove plants.
Since she moved back to Maryland, she's been a lot happier. She didn't have to worry about being kidnapped in order to be another subject for Gordon's games. Even though he gave her a good recommendation for her new boss at Hopkins, she still didn't trust him.
There was a knock on the door. She got up, and happily bounced towards the door while saying "There's somebody at the door. There's somebody at the door". She picked that habit up after watching it from season two of "The IT Crowd", a show that she was a fan of.
However, her heart sank when she got to the door. Gordon and Hoffman stood there. What the hell were they doing there?
"What do you guys want?" She asked them suspiciously.
"Nice way to greet us" Hoffman said dryly.
"Sorry, just suspicious why you're here"
"We don't blame you, Jesse." Gordon said sympathetically.
"Can we come in?" Hoffman asked curiously.
Jesse debated about it briefly, but decided ultimately to let them in. "Come on in"
They both gave her a hug before they proceeded to the living room.
"Nice place you have here" Gordon remarked as he sat down. Hoffman sat in the chair next to him.
"Thank you" Jesse said as she took a seat across from them. "So, what's going on?"
Gordon and Hoffman looked at each other before Gordon took a deep breath. "I bet you're getting sick and tired of this question, but would you like to become a…"
"No" She cut him off.
"You didn't know what I was going to say."
"Of course, I do." She retorted. "It's the only question that has been asked of me in the last few years. I *DO NOT* want to do jack shit for John like continue his work of testing people. He's dead. Let this shit drop already. The more you two do that, the more you two can live better lives."
"How can I live a better life?" Hoffman countered her. "I'm still a wanted man."
"Who's fault was it to go into a police station and kill anyone that was in there?" She said coldly.
"I was a wanted man before that."
"Point is that we're both heading out to Los Angeles. We just wanted to know if you wanted to come along."
"No thanks, I'm quite happy with the life I've gotten myself here in Maryland."
"Sorry to hear that" Gordon said glumly.
"I'm sorry too." She said sadly. "I use to respect both of you until you started to carry out John's idiotic work."
"It is not idiotic." Hoffman said defensively. "You know how the justice system is, Jesse. Sometimes, some of these people need to be tested."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah….would you two like some tea or coffee before you go?"
"Sure thing! That sounds nice" Gordon said with a small smile.
A few minutes later, Jesse poured hot water into three mugs. Hoffman's had instant coffee while there was a tea bag in both Gordon and Jesse's mug.
"Do you want sugar or cream in your tea, Larry?" She asked curiously, knowing that Hoffman wanted his coffee black.
"Yes, please"
She added a few cubes of sugar to both mugs. She added cream only to Gordon's mug. Gordon and Hoffman watch her add something else to all three mugs. Then, she brought the men their mugs. She collected the mugs after they all been drained of their contents.
"You sure we can't persuade you to come with us?" Gordon asked her as they made their way to the door.
"I'm sure." She replied. "Why do you want me to go so badly?"
"You're a good assistant." Gordon said.
"You're great in the sack." Hoffman added.
"Gee, thanks for announcing that" Jesse said, annoyed. She didn't want her old boss to know that she had an affair with the former detective.
"He told me over a year ago." Gordon said with a shrug.
"Alrighty then" Jesse said dryly. "It was great to see you two again." Of course, she didn't mean it. She didn't want to see them again at all. She's done being around people that murdered others, even if they were a strain on society.
"I doubt that" Hoffman countered.
She had no time to react before Hoffman wrapped his arms around her and pushed a barrel of a gun against her temple. "What the hell?"
"Sorry, Jesse" Gordon said with his hands in the air. "You have to come with us."
"Why?"
"You have no choice."
"Yeah, right! I have every choice not to go with you two fuckers!"
"I hate to admit this, sweet heart." Hoffman purred behind her. "However, John wrote in his will that you will become an accomplice…whether you like it or not."
"After all, you already have the experience don't you?" Gordon said, reminding her of the painful fact that she was forced to do dirty work for her step-father.
"I won't do it!" She cried out. "You would have to kill me first before you ever make me do something like that again."
"That can be arranged" Hoffman said coldly, clocking the gun.
"Not yet, Mark" Gordon growled. "We can kill her when we don't need her anymore."
Hoffman put the gun away. "Be lucky about that, dearie" He said to Jesse as he pinched her cheek. "Besides, I would like to have more fun with you."
Gordon began to head to the door. "Let's go! We need to leave now."
However, he didn't make it to the door. He started to shake suddenly. Hoffman began to do the same thing, and he let Jesse go. She wasn't feeling well either, but she just felt nauseous.
"What the hell is going on?" Hoffman asked nervously.
"I don't know." Gordon replied, just as nervous as Hoffman was.
Then, they were both on the floor thrashing violently. Jesse stepped on Hoffman's hand. He released the gun, and she kicked it away from him. He tried to grab her, but she kicked him in the face. She bent down and retrieved the gun. She held it on them.
"I can tell you what's going on." She said coldly. "You've been given four ounces of digitalis. I put it both in your tea and coffee. It's a lethal dose."
"How the hell did you get a hold of digitalis?" Gordon demanded.
"Um, didn't you notice the Foxglove plants out front?" She replied dryly. "I extracted the digitalis from it. I guess I failed to tell you that I knew how to extract medicine and poison from plants. My step-father may have been a psychopath, but he valued education. He wanted me to be intelligent. So, he stressed the important of having a good education. Imagine how I used to get beaten or tortured each time I didn't bring home an A. I was Valedictorian of my class in high school. I was in the top five of my class at the university and John Hopkins."
"But why did you extract the digitalis?" Hoffman asked curiously. "Surely you didn't know we were coming."
"You underestimated me." She remarked. "You all were so focused on the fact that I was just an innocent, damaged nurse that didn't want to hurt a fly anymore that you forgotten that I had learned a lot about murder from two good serial killers, my step-father and John. Sure, I wasn't going to go on a killing spree like those two did. However, you must've known I would find some ways to defend myself from future threats. I did just that."
"Since you two didn't respect my wishes, I made sure I was prepared just in case you two showed up again." She finished. "Being prepared and not being too content paid off."
"You won't get away with this." Gordon threatened.
"I already have." She said coldly. "After all, I wasn't raised by a dumb criminal. I was raised by someone who knew how to get away with murder and not be caught. I took it one step further. Not to be suspected of murder. I gave myself digitalis too. It was just a small dose. It's enough to cause some digestive disruption. People would assume I got food poisoning."'
"I thought you didn't murder people?" Hoffman challenged her.
"I wouldn't consider this murder." She told him cooley. "I would consider this self-defense. I'm removing two threats to society."
At that point, both Hoffman and Gordon writhed on the floor so much that they couldn't talk. Eventually, they both breathed their last breath and died right there on the foyer floor of Jesse's house.
With a gun still pointed at them, Jesse made her way towards the recently deceased bodies and checked their pulses. There wasn't one in either of them. She smiled triumphantly.
When it was dark outside, she put on her dark leather gloves that went with her dark jumpsuit. She didn't even put the lights on outside the house. She carefully carried each man outside as if they were drunkards. If any of her neighbors would see this, they would assume she was helping two men to the car because they were drunk. Luckily for her, no one saw her.
She drove all the way out to a scrap metal yard. She got out of the car, and headed towards the crane with the big metal plate. She used the crane to put the car into the car compactor with the two dead men in it. She got out of the crane and went to the car compactor's control panel. She activated it, and the car became a cube. She pressed another button, and the newly cubed car came out. There was a bit of blood leaking out of it. She got back into the crane, and moved the cube of metal to a big pile of cubed cars. She dropped the freshly cubed car in that pile with the two crushed bodies inside.
"Game over"
