"I said enough!" Elsa yelled, whipping around to face her sister.
She hadn't meant for it to happen. Her gloved hand had opened as she spoke, releasing her anger- and with it, her power. As soon as it did her eyes widened with realization. She closed her fist, a small gasp falling from her lips. The magic hit the floor in a semi-circle and grew into dangerous spikes that separated Elsa from the rest of the guests.
Everyone cried out and stumbled away from her as the ice spikes formed- dangerously close to the guests, each pointing towards their chest or head. They backed up; surprise and fear crossing into their eyes. Everyone, Elsa included, was stunned. More so, she was ashamed. Thirteen years of work and dedication: gone. Everything she had worked towards- trying to protect her sister, keeping her powers hidden- it was all wasted.
The worst thing was the look on Anna's face. She had been the closest. For a moment, her face shifted to a fearful one, and she pulled her arms in close to protect herself. To protect herself from Elsa. The Queen shook her head, as if it'd undo what she had done or shake the sight from her eyes. Anna locked her blue eyes onto Elsa as she took a few muted steps back.
"hn-" Elsa peeped, as she looked around in fear and shame. She had pulled her hands to her chest, and was cradling her bare hand as if it were broken.
"Sorcery," The Duke breathed, slipping to put of his guards between them. "I knew there was something dubious going on here."
"Elsa?" Anna whispered- she sounded almost . . . sad. Her face was filled with a hundred different emotions, not that the Queen could read them. She was too in shock. The only thought she could properly focus on was getting away.
"No." Elsa breathed, fumbling behind her for the doorknob. As soon as her gloved fingers wrapped around it, she twisted and fell into the hall, quickly breaking into a run. Get away.
She ran through the halls, not allowing herself to feel the regret yet. She needed to get away first, to get somewhere safe, and far away from others. Especially Anna.
She ran- she could hear people chasing after her. She didn't want to know why they'd want to. She just ran. She ran through the halls, the main doors in sight, and she bolted towards it faster.
Without even considering who might be on the other side, Elsa shoved the doors open. Breathing hard; she stopped short, and looked up. Then she froze.
"There she is!" A woman somewhere in the crowd called. Everyone, all the townspeople who had come, turned to look at her. They smiled, they cheered. They had no idea what had just happened. Breathing hard, Elsa whipped her head around to look inside. She could hear them coming. She had no choice.
She launched herself into the crowd, desperately trying to reach the gates. Don't touch me, she mentally begged. I don't want to hurt anyone.
"The Queen!" A man in the crowd called, as if trying to get her attention. She let out a small gasp when her way was suddenly blocked by a man, who grinned at her, awed.
"Yes, it is her!" He confirmed, sounding overjoyed at finally meeting their Queen. He bowed slightly, lowering his head. "Queen Elsa."
Get away, the though pounded in Elsa's brain. Just get away. Without answering him, Elsa shouldered past the man. She hurried, a few of the confused citizens moving out of her way.
"Our Beautiful Queen." Another man in the crowd cooed in adoration. Elsa didn't pause. At least, not until her way was blocked again. She turned, searching for another way out of the maze of people, and found herself blocked once more. But his time, it was by a woman. A woman holding a baby.
No, I can't hurt the baby. I can't hurt anyone. Elsa's eyes flickered from the child, to the woman, to everyone. I just need to get away.
"Your majesty," The woman said in a motherly concerned voice. "are you alright?"
No, no I'm not. It was all too much. All these people, everything that had happened. She couldn't handle it. She could feel herself start to shake, though hardly noticeable.
"N-" She didn't bother finishing. She just started backing up. Away. Just get away. She needed to get away from the castle, from these people.
The small of Elsa's back suddenly collided with something, and she threw her hand back to catch herself instinctively. As soon as her bare fingers came in contact with the stone, she knew she had made a mistake. Elsa whipped around just in time to see the ice- her ice- freezing over the fountain. Her magic spread inward instantly, and began freezing up the water. It groaned and cracked in protest, and she could only stare- completely horrified. The ice forced and froze the water, pointing back at her like an accusation.
The townspeople starred, both at the fountain and at Elsa. She was panting now from the panic. My fault. All my fault, she thought fearfully.
Elsa whirled back towards the door to face a familiar voice- a voice, that only moments ago, had been friendly. Now it was anything but. "There she is," The Duke yelled. "stop her!"
"Please just . . ." Elsa was already backing up, holding her hands out defensively. "stay away from me, stay away!" She begged, waving her hands in front of her as if to defend herself. She had hardly finished speaking before her bare hand created a blast- her magic shot from her palm straight in front of her- towards the main castle doors and the Duke.
The magic hit the doors and blasted them wide open. Ice covered the ground and pillars immediately, and the magic knocked the duke and his guards to the ground. People screamed and cried out, and the sound was like acid inside the Queen's ears. Elsa stared, horrified, as the Duke scampered backwards, away from her. "Monster . . ." He whispered, though his voice quickly rose to a scream. "Monster!"
Elsa, still breathing hard, looks at her shaking bare hand before she pulls it to her chest. She could see the woman, whom had been kind to her, back away with the now crying child shielded from the Queen's eyes. She had done this. She made them afraid.
She hears a child from somewhere scream weakly, and peels her eyes in that direction. A father hastily pulls his daughters back, as far away from Elsa as space will allow. They feared her. Everything she had tried to avoid had happened.
She took off- she didn't look over her shoulder, she didn't pause. Elsa simple took off running with the heavy cape flowing behind her. People moved out of her way easily now- they all avoided her.
"Elsa!" A voice from behind her yelled. Anna. The sound of her voice made Elsa run faster. She turned away from the closed gates, and took off towards one of the guard tower doors. She could hear Anna following her, and likely that Prince, but Elsa didn't wait.
She passed through the gates, and was greeted by a few stray snowflakes caused from her panic. She noted how they stuck to the ground, despite no more falling, but didn't care. She didn't have time to care.
"Elsa!" Anna yelled, more forcefulness in it than the Queen thought the younger girl was capable of.
Elsa turned back towards her sister's voice, but continued stepping backwards towards the fjord. I could have hurt her. I almost did, The Queen thought in a panic. I could have hurt her.
The ground beneath her feet suddenly changed, and with a gasp she looked down. She was no longer standing on the shore, but on a layer of ice on the fjord. Ice she had created.
"Wait, please!" Anna beckoned desperately. Elsa looked over her shoulder, where Anna had appeared; the glove she had taken still clutched tightly in her fingers. Elsa saw Prince Hans appear in the doorway a moment after, but she hardly noticed. She had to get away.
Turning away quickly, Elsa sucked in a hesitant breath. The older girl brought her foot slowly down to the water. It solidified into ice before her shoe even fully made contact.
She stared ahead of herself desperately- there was only one way to go. She didn't stop to look back; she just broke into a run, the water freezing before her foot even touched the ice. Elsa's heart pounded and she held her hands to her chest, before giving in and allowing her arms to pump faster at her sides.
Just stay away, she urged. Elsa wasn't positive if she was urging herself or Anna or both.
Her cloak slowed her down, and she stumbled, but she didn't stop. She wasn't even sure where she was going: as long as it was away.
"Elsa, stop!" Anna called from behind her, but her voice was faint. Elsa had already reached the other side of the fjord, and stumbled back onto land after the words reached her ears. She didn't slow, didn't turn to look back.
She just had to get away.
"Elsa, stop!" Anna yelled, just as she stepped onto the fjord. The ice was slippery underneath her shoes, and she fell to her knees.
"Anna!" Hans called in concern, his hands immediately on her shoulders. Anna didn't look at him- she just starred after her sister.
"No." She whispered in defeat, her chest heaving from running. Elsa reached the other side of the fjord, and scampered back up to land. She disappeared into the trees before Anna could even think about standing and chasing her again.
She hadn't meant for any of this to happen. Anna had just . . . she'd just wanted Elsa to be happy for her. Anna had gone and found her true love. Elsa should have been happy. But when she wasn't, Anna had just kept pushing, and pushing, and pushing. She pushed Elsa to the edge and-
Well, and that had led to her sister's big reveal.
Hans's hand fell away from her shoulder, and his back straightened slightly. "The fjord . . ." He mumbled, his voice filled with shock.
Anna tore her eyes away from the direction Elsa had gone, and instead looked at the fjord- the fjord, which was quickly being covered in a layer of ice. It expanded from where the Queen's foot had touched the water, and continued spreading at an amazing pace, freezing the entire expanse. Ships creaked and groaned loudly as they were frozen into place- and all Anna could do was gape.
"Elsa . . ." Anna mumbled again, just as Hans offered her his hand. Anna took it, but not before dropping Elsa's glove at the edge of the fjord. It wouldn't do them any good now.
A chill ran down Anna's spine as Hans helped her to her feet- the temperature had taken a sudden drop as soon as Elsa stepped outdoors. Hans let her go as soon as they were back on solid ground, and wrapped his arms around his own shoulders. Anna did the same, rubbing her bare freckled arms as she tried to generate some heat.
Anna and Hans didn't speak as they made their way back to the courtyard. What was there to say?
Anna was lost in thought. It was quite a shock- learning your sister had powers. The princess couldn't help but feel hurt mixing in with her guilt. How come Elsa never told her? Was that the reason she shut her out? Why didn't Anna have powers- or did she, and she just didn't know about them? No, not that. Anna was sure she would have known if she had powers. But was everything she knew about Elsa, about herself, a lie?
Hesitantly, she reached up and brushed the lighter stripe that was tied back into her elaborate bun. Had its origin been a lie, too? No. No, that would be ridiculous. Anna wrapped her arms tighter around herself.
She had been so lost in thought, that Anna didn't notice the white specks falling from the sky until a single, perfect snowflake landed on a freckle on her arm.
The making of this required me to watch "the party is over clip" about a million times. Oh well, I'm not complaining.
Sorry for the lack-of-creativeness in this chapter. I'm in a writing funk. *Sigh.* you know what would help? Requests. Uh-huh. Yep-yep. Keep requesting stuff guys, I love requests.
'Still not sure if the reviewing is working perfectly…I think they're still messed up.
