Chapter 37: The Hunted
"It wasn't me who made you such a better and much nicer monster... it was you all alone. I'm so happy to know you Randall and I'm sorry I ran away from you when I heard you were a wanted criminal."
"I don't think I can make it Randall and I don't have enough time to talk much longer so I'm going just going to say it... I love you Randall Boggs and no matter what happens to me I will all ways be in your heart, following you everywhere you go. Could you give me one last joy?"
"I want you to kiss me for the first but for the last time..."
"Thank you Randall, for everything..."
Rebecca's last words hanged in my head like a dark cloud over a city as I raced across the streets in the stolen police cruiser, sometimes it wasn't in order. "Why does my life always get crushed?" I said out loud to myself. "Anything good that happens in my life must be taken away from me no matter how hard I tried to get it or diverse it!" I felt empty, alone and most of all angry.
"Rebecca! You can't just die. Please wake up, wake up!"
Tears began to run down my eyes as I remembered my last words to her, I quickly wipe them away as I left the industrial area of the city, I couldn't see any cars a part from two on the street in front of me. Both where SUVs and more importantly both of them look like company cars, I could only guess it was Silva's and his bodyguards on the way to his office before they leave the city.
My anger I was feeling was now was fuelled even more as I realized I was so close to getting that monster to pay for his crimes. "You're not getting away from me Silva! Not while I'm still around!" I slimmed my foot on the pedal, the car accelerated towards the car behind Silva and I smacked into the back of the first SUV.
"Who the hell was that?!" The driver shouted as he quickly recovered from the whiplash. One of the monsters in the vehicle looked behind to see my police car very close to the back of their vehicle. "It's a cop! Look I'll warn the boss while you just make sure you don't crash this thing! Can you do that?" The monster voice was mixed with panic and angry. "Yeah I can do that without a problem if you stopped panicking. This car weighs more than that piece of rubbish behind us so we can easily deal with him." The driver said feeling confident with his new task.
"Silva we have a problem. There's a cop car chasing us but he doesn't want us to slow down I think. He keep ramming into us!" Silence sounded on the radio before the monster got any kind of reply from his boss. "It must be Boggs! Take him out no matter what. I don't care if you have to ram him into an orphanage just take him out and make sure he captured or dead. I'll be fine on my own." Came the reply. "Right boss. Will get it done right away!"
I smacked into the back of the car again harder than ever before. "The boss wants us to take him out." The monster holding onto the radio said. "All right hold on to your seats!" Out of nowhere the SUV applied the brakes while I just in time was able to turn the car away from the SUV but lost control which caused me to spin around on the empty streets and into a parked car. My car or should I say Nathan's car was badly scratched but still in good working order with nothing imported damaged a part from the sides mirror.
To my horror I realised the SUV was coming straight towards me, if I didn't move right away it would crush and kill me on impact. I change the gear to reverse slimmed on the pedal, the car quickly moved backwards but the SUV was catching up. I turned the car around into a one hundred and eighty degree spin and changed gear to first and began to move away from the oncoming car. But now the hunter which was me was being hunted.
"He going into the park. Don't lose him!" The other monster in the vehicle said. "I know I know! Just let me get on with it will ya!" The driver shouted back. I didn't have a plan but I knew there was a small lake in the park somewhere, if I was able to trick them going into the water I would still be able to make it to Silva's office to attack him but I was running out of time. I smashed into the park gates where the two monsters had to jump out of my way not to get run over by the cars that raced by.
"What's this guy up too?" The driver asked himself. "He trying to lose us that's what he up too. Just crush into him when you get the chance. I want a pay rise after this!" The monster sat next to the driver said in a load voice. "Will all get a pay rise if we kill him and if Silva takes over Monsters Incorporated but for now you'll have to wait and shut up so I can get on with the job!?"
I turned to the right hand side of the park past a famous statue of a well know monster of the city. I looked at the mirror that wasn't broken to see the SUV still following me but I was just gaining space from them "What does it take to shake these guys?" I said to myself in annoyance where I had gone up and down the park hill where kids on skateboards and bikes raced down on. I had finally arrived at the lake where I press hard on the brake pedal to stop the car, I was facing the metal bars that looped around the whole lake which with enough force could be broken by a car. "Now all I have to do is wait for them to come..." I began to evilly laugh as my plan was genius.
"He went up that hill... go for it!" Shouted the monster in the SUV. The vehicle made it all the way up the hill to see me in the police car facing the hill below. "He's done for! Get him now!" The passengers in the car shouted. I saw SUV came speeding towards me, I turned the wheel of the car and moved towards the left, which was out of the path of the raging SUV coming towards me.
"Brake you idiot! Brake!" But it was all too late. The SUV smashed right though the metal bars and into the lake. I didn't know how deep the lake was but the car sake like a stone, for a few seconds four heads appeared on the surface of the water which must have been the guards who tried to kill me. I smiled as I drive away from the lake and towards the exit of the park. Now it was time to hunt down Silva.
Alex Hunt, one of the many security guards of Silva's Plaza sat on Rebecca's chair in the lobby area where Rebecca's desk was located. He was working on the night shift guarding the entrance of the building... well expect for a few minutes he wasn't, he was getting ready to buy his daughter a birthday present, a pony to be precise. It was going to cost a lot of money but he had worked hard to buy her daughter something special. Something that said I love you. Ever since the death of his wife, life itself never seem to adjust itself. It was much worse for Alex's daughter.
She kept getting bad grades in school, almost got kick out of the scouts for bad behaviour which the police had to arrest her once and was in an orphanage for most of the time her own Dad was in prison for being in a group who abducted a child which meant three years on the inside. He did a short amount of time because no one got hurt, especially the child. He had also shown remorse during the trial unlike the other monsters who took part in the crime and even tried to fight their way out from the police before the arrest took place. Thankfully that was in the past now.
He was now a law abiding citizen.
Before he got out of prison Alex did his time and kept his horns clean and when released was allowed to get his daughter back much of the displeasure of her social worker given his history, he brought a house and some land where he hinted one day he would buy a pony for her. Looking at the many ponies in the magazine he embarrassing brought from a nearby shop, picked a pony and began to phone the company to buy one. "Hi... I would like to buy a pony... Yeah I'll take⦠Nikki." He said before giving all his contact details to the company and put the phone down feeling pleased with himself. Alex put his feet upon the desk and relaxed.
That was until he heard a banging noise near the entrance door. Alex looked up to see the owner of the company struggling to open the door, he noticed Alex and waved him to cover over to open the door. "What the hell is he doing here this time of night?" Alex wondered to himself. He press a few buttons on the control panel that unlock the doors and stood himself up waiting for Silva to make his way across to him. "Sir what are you doing here at this time of night? I thought you were meant to be at the party! At Monsters Incorporated?" He asked not wanting his boss to see the pony magazine nearby which lit up from the serious colours of the desk since it was a bright pink colour design.
"A problem came up. Randall Boggs tried to kill me and James P Sullivan but nothing for you to worry about." He lied. "Just escort me to my office and back to my car. I'm getting out of the city for my own safety." Silva fully explained but he noticed how Alex was covering his eye sight of the desk. "What are you hiding Hunt?" Silva asked. "Errh nothing sir. Nothing of any interested." He smiled but he was somehow pushed aside and Silva saw the pony magazine, Alex turned red with embarrassment.
"Well I never thought you were into the pony fandom... Hunt, still I'm not surprised either since you live on a ranch near the forests. Anyway where wasting time as it is so come on and let's get this over with or would you be happy picking ponies for yourself?" Silva said in a condescending voice. "No sir! I'm paid to protect you and I will help you the best way I can." Alex made very clear.
"Good. Now follow me..." The two monsters step inside the gold coloured elevator and Alex press the button on the control panel to floor 107th which was the floor which housed Silva's office, now a long awkward silence wait began. "I heard Rebecca was allowed to go to the party. Is she OK?" Alex asked in a worried voice. "I don't know how to say this... But I guess I should. Rebecca was violently attacked by Randall Boggs. Randall kidnapped her, beaten her up to try to get to me and Sullivan so when she didn't give him any information he shocked her with a stun gun until she died. This all took place in the trash compactor in Monsters Incorporated. If we knew she was there we would have saved her. I'm sorry Alex, I knew you were good friends."
Silva could tell with just a facial expression if his lie worked or not, Alex's face was a shocked but angry facial expression, it had worked. "No... He wouldn't dare hurt her. They went on a date for cried out loud!" Alex smacked his hand on the wall which made a large clang sound. "I know it hurts but she in a better place now."
Silva did something he never thought he do, putting his hand on Alex's shoulder while the yellow monster wiped his tears away with his black shirt. "What... in a body bag or a coffin!" He cried in the small elevator. "It's better than being tortured! I know your upset but I need you to protect me from Boggs. That what she would of wanted." The elevator sounded its famous bong and then the doors opened. "Come on. We need to hurry up." Silva turned on his radio and try to make contact with his bodyguards in the SUV. "Foxtrot do you read me. Did you capture or kill Boggs?" He asked impatiently.
For a few seconds later he got his reply. "We failed boss. Boggs trick us going into the park lake. He's after you!" Silva gowned in anger. "Thanks for letting me know." Silva soon turned the radio off, all of his teams had failed on him which scared him a little. Still he rushed to his office with Alex behind in full pursuit, he opened his office doors with his own key and rushed towards his desk. "I've been thinking what you said in the elevator. About Rebecca and Randall and well Silva... I don't believe you..." Alex said at the entrance of the office. Silva who was placing money, important documents, the hard drive that could send Sullivan to prison and personal belongs had finished packing. He looked at Alex with a sad expression on his face.
"Alex... Alex... Alex I know you lost your wife. So it must be so hard to lose someone you were friends with or maybe in love with but it's all true. Now if you let me get passed you I make sure you'll get pay when I'm out of the city." Silva walked towards the exit but Alex stood in his way. "You're not going anywhere until you tell the truth or prove it!" Silva face crumpled as he looked at his employee wondering what he was going to do with 'the problem' until an idea pop into his head. "Fine I'll give you poof. Just let me get it from the evidence from my briefcase."
See you Sunday!
