Chapter 36: party crashers
Jessie looked beyond awkward but was doing fairly well with the Royal party.
He noticed her gaze wandering all over the place and could almost read her thoughts.
This place is amazing.
I dont fit in.
I have no clue what anyones saying.
Well of course she wouldn't, she was no longer wearing his space suit that would automatically translate the language for her.
Buzz watched her without abandon. She had taken a drink from a passing tray and walked over to a window, leaning against the glass, her white dress shimmering as she went. They had been here for a few days and the care she seemed to be getting was helping her appearance. She looked rested and full of life. More like the Jessie her had seen the very first night when she had been walking under her moonlight. Now the triple Moon lights of this planet spilled into her skin making it glow. He wanted nothing more than to go and kiss her tensely held creamy shoulders, making them relax under his administrations.
But that seemed impossible because of the way she had been ignoring him. He had no clue what had happened and why she seemed to be acting like he had betrayed her, but every time he seemed to corner her, she disappeared not wanting to talk to him. And with his broken ribs he couldn't chase after her. Properly anyway.
Her gaze flicked in his direction. Big mistake. They made eye contact, and became ensnared in in each other's eyes as the world melted away around them. Nebula, he wanted to run to her. To kiss her so hard she would forget the very thing that kept her at a distance. Something wedged in his chest making him swallow hard.
Startled, Jessie glanced away, a pink blush painting her cheeks. She took a sip of her green drink and composed herself. By the time she worked up the courage to to take onther peek at him, he was perposly turned away and the moment between them was gone. His eyes were a stormy mix of electric blue, aggravation and confusion that made Jessie feel a little bit more idiotic.
"So what is your answer my dear boy?" The King asked.
"Pardon? Forgive me. My mind was a million miles away."
The Kings gaze flickered to Jessie. "I see."
The King studied his face closely. " You know, after all that it happened here on your last mission I was hoping that when you returned that you and my daughter would be together. After all from what she had told me, that seemed to be the case..."
Buzz had to tread carefully, otherwise he would end up offending a royal dignitary.
"I'm sorry your Grand Excellency, but The relationship between me and your daughter is simply platonic. Another has captured my heart, and I can not see my self with anyone but her." There, Buzz thought, quick and to the point.
The King was silent and he swirled his drink in his hand.
"Ah yes, the earthling. I seemed to notice that, but she does not seem to reciprocate your feelings." They both turned their heads, to catch the train of Jessie's white dress leaving the room and slipping into the hall.
"She has reciprocated my feelings," Buzz growled a little testy, "But lately she has become distant."
"Woman are a fickle It's just the way they are. Maybe you two are just growing apart, it's perfectly natural for a couple to fall out of love. You should think more on my daughter, she could make you very happy. I also would love to call the Galaxy's greatest hero, Son in law."
"I and very flattered your Excellency. But I am furthest from the galaxy's greatest hero. And we haven't fallen out of... We are...Feelings for each other." He cleared his throat lamely a little embarrassed to be discussing this with the King." I think something's bothering her."
"And what could that be?" The King questioned politely, raising one eyebrow. Still sounding doubtful about Buzz's feelings for Jessie.
Irritated, Buzz gritted his teeth. That's it! He was not liking this discussion and was done with it."I'm not sure, but I'm going to go find out. If you will excuse me." He slammed his drink on to a passing tray a little harder than necessary and left the King standing there in shock.
Taking long strides he tried to cross the room before-
"Buzzy! There you are! I was wondering when you get done talking to my father!" Princess Quimbbly appeared out of nowhere and quickly latched onto his arm. " Isn't this party great! Just the close family like I promised. You look so totally cute in your suit. Come dance with me will have a great time." She pressed her body flush up against Buzz and batted her long lashes at him.
"Actually your highness this isn't a great time." He said barely containing a growl. "I need to go talk to Jessie. So if you'll just let me-"
"Oh she will be fine!" The Princess said as she dragged them out onto the dance floor. "You don't need to babysit her. I will send someone to entertain her. I have a very handsome footman who would love to do that. Then it can be just be me and you and-"
Buzz jerked from her hold. His blood almost boiling under his skin. "No thank you." He said sternly.
Princess Quimbbly pouted, her pink forehead crinkling with fake concern. She reached out again and dug her long pink nails into his arm.
"Buzz," she said giving an exaggerated sigh. "I didn't want to tell you this but, You're just being used by that earthling. She's just playing you and now she's avoiding you like the plague, hopping that if she holds back, you will come running after her like a puppy. Shes got you on a string like a puppet. If she really loved you, like I do, she would show it and let everyone know!"
Buzz was unexpectedly riled by her words. He snarled quietly to her under his breath trying not to make a scene. "Like you did with the tabloids. Selling those lies about us so you could get my attention. Well now you have it, and I'm afraid it's not the kind you wanted."
His retort left her mouth hanging agape.
Buzz squared his shoulders and composed himself. " We are done here." He said cooly, he tried to leave but her grip on his arm because tightfully painful.
"We are not finished." She said with a frown and a hiss, obviously not happy the way things were going.
"Yes we are." He broke free from her hold again and turned to leave her alone on the dance floor, not even giving her a second glance. He probably had just made enemies of the whole Royal family. But he didn't care. He was off to find the only girl for him and come hell or high water, they were going to have a talk.
Jessie looked over the small group of aliens that made up princess Quimbblys Royal family.
"Colorful"was a word that best described them. And she wasn't describing their characteristic
With an array of colors ranging from the deepest blues to the brightest yellows, Jessie couldn't help but think that the royal family had all been bathed in the rainbow as babies.
The King and Queen, who had been talking to Buzz all night, were light orange and pink, and they too like there daughter seemed unrealistically gorgeous. Everyone here did. She rubbed her arms and placed a small drink down on a passing platter held by a servent heading to the main ball room she had just escaped from. Music poured from the doors as the servent quickly went in, then it swung shut closing her off from that strange world. She wouldn't be missed, no one had even tried to talk to her. Ever since she had arrived, many of them had looked at her with curiosity boarding on digsust.
She was quite lonely. Besides she would not be able to talk to anyone anyway with out Buzzs suit, but that was ok, she enjoyed just watching the strange aliens. She didn't need someone to talk to, especially Buzz.
She rubbed her arms harder as she walked down the dark hallway she had entered. The hall was framed with nothing but stain glass windows that towered above her, stretching up into the ceiling. Why was this place so cold at night? She had discovered the first few days here that the nights dropped to unbearable temperatures. A draft of wind swept past her and she briefly considered going back to the warm ball room, but that thought was immediately cancelled because she could not stand one more moment watching as Princess Quimbbly drool over Buzz. He fit in here so well, looking as if really could be a space prince of some sort, saving the galaxy one moment then dancing the night away with royalty the next.
Maybe he did belong here with the princess... With her perfect face, perfect hair and her perfect body that seamed to have no scars on it from working the fields or a smattering of freckles from sun burns.
He was perfect. And the princess was perfect. And they could be perfectly happy together.
And she would be perfectly miserable.
She came to the end of the hall barley hearing the party music now. She saw a settee and was about to set down, when a arm suddenly snaked around her waist and she was yanked from behind, pulled into a room.
Jessie's knew immediately who it was and she began struggling like mad to get away. She knew he was still injured, but at the same time did not want to see him.
Buzz grunted with effort as he tried to hold her in place. "Listen Jessie, please!"
Buzz got a firm hold of her shoulders and pushed her up against the wall. He pressed his head aganst her forehead and looked sincerly in her eyess. Insnared once again by his electric blues. She stopped struggling.
He stared back saying nothing, looking as if he was trying to compose himself.
So she waited, angry for not getting away.
"I...Im not good with words. " He started to stutter struggling to get his words out.
She waited as a heavy humid silence settled between them.
"But I do know for ceartain that I want you in my life. Whatever you're going through or if i did something to affend you, please tell me so I can fix it." His eyes, deeply hooded with his strong brow pierced Jessie with an uncomfortable intensity. He licked his lips and continued. "Just tell me what I did wrong. I will do anything to keep you happy." Buzz looked so stricken, Jessie was stunned.
Biting down hard on her lip she started to regret her current behavior towards Buzz. He thought he had done something wrong...
Hadn't he? Or was it just her over reacting? After a bit of debating She took a deep breath a sighed, hatting the edge of sadness that it gave to her whisper. "Oh Buzz, no. This is all my fault. You've done nothing wrong. Nothing at all partner."
Buzz released a sigh that sounded as if he had released years of pent up worries.
"I'm not to good with words my self." She reached up and stroked his jaw line. "Im not used to all of these new feelings I have...for you that is...They're so strong I feel... well unbalanced."
Buzz tillted his head in confustion. "What do you feel?"
Jessie smiled ruefully. "Jealously mostly."
"Jealousy?" Buzz raised one brow.
"Ugh! Yes. Buzz you may be the Universes best thing since sliced bread but you are denser than the side of a barn door! Of course I'm! Have you seen Princess Quimbbly! Shes a pink Goddess."
"So...you're jealous... of Princess Quimbbly?"
"Oh hell, Buzz do I gotta spell it out for ya?" Jessie quipped back frustrated.
"Don't get snarky Miss pride, I was just checking."
"I'm not snarky!" Jessie pushed out her lower jaw in annoyance at the use of her last name.
"You're being snarky right now." Buzz said.
"The hell I am! Your lucky I ain't got my gun on me."
Buzz clicked his tounge, as if condescending a child. "See, right there. That's snark."
Jessie frowned and Buzz was now smiling ear to ear.
"...So I did nothing wrong?"
In reponse Jessie lifted up on her tippy toes and pulled him down for a kiss on the cheek.
Buzz blushed deepy but was very happy.
He couldn't believe just how... Just how wonderful she was. How could she even compare herself to Princess Quimbbly? She was desirable on a whole new level. And he told her as much.
He watched as she searched his face for any type of deception. Her face was unreadable and Buzz thought she was going to push him away, but instead she smashed their mouths together and Buzz was extremely happy with this development.
Her fingers were in his hair then, her tiny nails dragging across his scalp gathering his short hair into fits fulls. She pulled him close, as she possibly could, her long stroking kisses becoming fast and impulsive as their hot breaths clashed. She whimpered and her breath shuttered in his mouth. Buzz felt his blood heat and burn under his skin and he became emboldened by her kiss and reacted as any man would. Alien or not.
He shoved her roughly against the wall and swallowed her gasp as he deepened the kiss. He was almost frantic in his desperation, urgently wanting to show her how much he cared for her, and sucked her in greedily. Jessie rose to the occasion, her fiery spirit dominating back as she licked and tugged his lips in return, slipping her tongue deeper into his mouth, fighting for dominance. Giving as much vigor as she was getting.
Nipping at her now swollen lips, his hands brazenly slipped down to her waist pulling himself inbetween her hips. He pressed himself against her as much as he could, not caring about the protest of his broken ribs. They ground into each other, until Jessie swore that the wall supporting them was going to crumble from underneath them.
He panted tearing his mouth away, moving to her neck and collarbone, his lips hot and wet from his shallow breaths. Nebula This was heaven, Buzz mused. His ribs screaming in pain but he couldnt have cared any less at that point. He smiled a little when her grip on his biceps tightened as he found a sensitive respective spot by her pulse, making her shiver in a wonderful way. Jessie gasped and her hands grazed down wards, raking his chest then stomach, then back again. Her fingers suddenly came into contact with the bandage wrap under his suit that was holding is ribs into place and her foggy brain started to work again.
Jessie swallowed hard trying to get her voice to work, but all that came out was a blissful sigh, followed by a satisfied moan from Buzz. She refocused, " Buzz we shouldn't be doing this..." She mumbled barely audible into his hair.
Buzz groaned uncaring against her skin, the thought of stopping a unheard whisper at the back of his mind.
He lifted his head and stole her lips again, trying to silence any protest from her. Buzz had decided that he needed more, he craved it actually. His warm and eager hands fanned across her hips and started to tug at her dress.
The wall behind her started to vibrate and Jessie broke the kiss.
"Buzz?"
Thinking she just need air from their kisses Buzz returned to her neck and started to scrape her collarbone with his teeth.
"Wait Buzz, what is that noise?!"
The walls and the ground began to rumble and Buzz finally realized that something was happening. Deep thudding and screams could now be heard in the hallway and Buzz snatched Jessie from the wall, pulling her close, as the sound of glass could be heard shattering along with wood splintering.
"Jessie stay close." He said harshly. They wandered cautiously out into the hall only to be knocked to the floor and showered with stain glass as the windows rained down on them.
"Jessie!" Buzz cried, groping wildly unsuccessful in finding her.
Metallic laughter cackled like static in the air. "Finally! Finally! My POz-324! Now I can rule the Universe unyielding and Star Command will fall. I will be the ruler! I will be supremacy!"
Buzz looked up to see his arch foe, The Evil Emperor Zurg. He was hanging on top of a metal claw that extended out from a small space craft. A small clear glass dome was at the bottom, and inside was a struggling Jessie. She kicked and screamed, throwing a fit. Zurg just laughed at her. "Poor thing," he said to her. "Buzz can't hear you." Jessie made eye contact with Buzz, fear filling her eyes.
Zurgs voice went flat. "But that's because he's dead." Zurg raised a laser canon and fired at Buzzs chest.
Buzz was shot backward hitting against the wall, with bone shattering snaps. He's body fell and his blood started to pool around him.
Jessies scream was lost inside the glass dome.
Zurgs laughter resumed, reaching a unstable crescendo. "Bye, bye!" He screamed to the crowds below, "I will be back for you all very soon."
Buzz choked on his blood as it filled his mouth, washing any traces of Jessies sweet taste from his senses.
He could feel the presence of someone standing over him.
He opened his eyes to see Princess Quimbbly, her arms crossed over her chest and her weight rested on one hip.
"See what happens when you turn me down." She said sneering at his broken form.
"You called him?" Buzz asked as weakness overtook him.
She Humpft, flipping her hair and walked away, her heels crunching the shattered glass as she went.
He had no strength left in his body and he could slowly feel himself slipping away.
Jessie.
