Chapter 36: Second Star to the Right
July 31, 2015
Magic Kingdom
Cinderella's Castle Apartment
8:12 A.M.
Maybeck's legs were tired from pacing.
Ever since Charlene's facetime last night, he had done as she had said, wait in the castle apartment. And the wait for his "further instructions" was killing him.
Nine hours and counting.
The image of a gun being held to her head was still burned in his mind like a tattoo on skin—permanent, never going away.
He took a deep breath and finally conceded, plopping down on the retro couch.
That's when he heard it: the sound of the elevator. Someone was coming to meet him. The bright morning sun was blinding him through the small window. The sixties style to the room making him want to vomit. The mothball smell overwhelmed his senses to the point of numbness.
Yet, somewhere, deep inside him, he found the energy to hide behind the door, reading himself for a fight. He wasn't going to be apart of the Overtakers' sick game anymore. He was going to tip the odds in his favor.
With the prize as important as Charlene's life, he was going to do whatever it took to win.
The elevator stopped and he heard mumbling behind the door. From his hiding place crouched behind the slightly ajar bedroom door, he saw two pairs of feet move across the apartment.
"Come out, come out wherever you arrrrrre!" The "r" was drug out, making it have a more pirate-y effect. Maybeck knew who he was up against. And he knew he could beat these two. But he also knew they were so low on the OT totem pole that they wouldn't have any information about Charlene.
So he did the only rational thing he could think of: he charged them.
The one wearing the ragged, red shirt (who aimed for his head) was easily disarmed. Maybeck simply punched the Audio-animatronic's forehead, ultimately crushing part of the software, rendering Red Shirt useless.
When Blue Shirt swung for his feet, Maybeck jumped up and landed on the machine's wrists, watching carefully where the sword scattered off to. He lowered himself to a crouch and swung his right leg in a perfect circle, knocking Blue Shirt off his feet.
Maybeck grabbed the sword and was about to leave the apartment via elevator when he heard it lower on its own. Someone else was trying to come up. It would be too much to wish that person to be Wayne, when in reality, it was no doubt more OT goons here to finish him off.
Maybeck turned around and took off down the small hallway toward the bedroom. He remembered Finn telling him about a staircase, only to be used in emergencies. The entrance was in the back of the bedroom closet.
He rummaged through the closet, throwing clothes on hangers out as he went. He found the doorknob and pulled.
Locked.
"It's locked from the outside," Finn's voice reminded him.
But I've got a sword, Maybeck thought to himself.
Maybeck stabbed his sword through the door in a few different places, creating a triangle effect. Once he had made the wood loose enough, he punched the wood out and reached for the lever. Once it was off the door handle, he opened the door, storming up the stairs as fast as possible.
He made it up three steps before he heard the stairs rattle beneath him. Someone else was on the stairs. Based on the massive noise, the people from the elevator had made it to the apartment already.
Maybeck took off and climbed those stairs at world-record speeds.
He reached the top of the stairs and opened the door, slamming it shut. He didn't see anything he could block the door with, so he went with a simple turn of the locking mechanism.
He scanned his surroundings. Six harnesses. Two Tinkerbell costumes. A comfy recliner. Two water bottles. One small window with a wire attached to it.
He headed for the harnesses, not sure of another way to escape his precarious situation. Six rapid knocks on the door made him stop in his tracks.
"Psssh, Maybeck!" a harsh whisper came through the cracks of the door.
Maybeck hurried back over the door. "Willa?" He whispered.
"Let me in you idiot! They're almost here! I don't have anything to defend myself with!"
Maybeck's shaking hands made unlocking the door more difficult than it should have been. He opened the door and Willa hurried in. He slammed the door and locked it again.
"You didn't think to barricade the door?" Willa whispered as loud as she could.
"There's nothing big enough...and I'm on a time crunch."
Willa rolled her eyes and moved to the recliner. "Help me with this!"
They pushed the recliner against the door as fast as possible. After backing away from the door, Willa reached over and hugged Maybeck, throwing him off guard.
"What was that for?" He whispered into her ear.
"We're going to get Charlene back. I thought you needed some help." She let go of him and smiled. "Turns out, I was right."
"Glad you're here Wills." He pointed to the harness. "Now if you don't mind, we've got some flying to do."
They each grabbed a harness, hurrying once the sound of ruffians banging on the door began. Maybeck helped Willa step up onto the ledge and hook her harness to the wire.
Willa glanced back at him before jumping out the window. "Second star to the right?" Her mischievous grin made him smile. When the time called for it, she could be one devious little girl.
"And straight on 'til morning!" He gave her a gentle push, sending her flying out of the castle, down the wire, toward Tomorrowland.
He hooked his own harness to the wire. He was about to jump out the window when he heard a huge BANG!
He turned around and saw six OT thugs run into the room. Most of them pirates, but some were palace guards.
"I wish I could stay guys," Maybeck said with a smirk, "but I've got to fly!"
And with that he jumped out the window.
He had made it almost the entire way, when he made the mistake of glancing back. His eyes went wide when he saw one of the pirates swing their sword against the wire, trying to cut it.
He turned back to look at the top of the building in which he was going to land. Come on, come on, come on…go faster!
He glanced back once more and wanted to cry when he felt the wire wobble. The pirate succeeded in cutting the wire, and Maybeck held on to the wire for dear life as he came crashing down toward the Tomorrowland bridge.
He held on until he almost reached the ground, where he ducked and rolled down onto the bridge. Once he had stopped rolling, he quickly pulled himself to a stand, ignoring all pain screaming in his bones and muscles. Maybeck ran off toward the place where he hoped Willa was waiting for him. He ran past the Astro Orbiters and was relived to see Willa running toward him.
"We've got to get out of the park," she said in between breaths as soon as they reached each other. She glanced up and down his body and frowned at the scratches, cuts and bruises. "Maybeck…"
"We'll talk later. Wanna get breakfast? I'm starving!"
"Sure, but we better hurry if we want to get out of here alive."
"Running fast is something I can deal with it." He smirked and took back off in the direction he had gone, Willa following close behind.

Contemporary Resort
Chef Mickey's
8:58 A.M.
They made it out of Magic Kingdom without another incident, but Willa still felt on-edge. First her husband was kidnapped, then her best friend and now an attempt on her and Maybeck's life…She didn't know why this was happening to them again, but she was determined to stop it.
As they scarfed down breakfast, Maybeck gave her a play-by-play of his facetime conversation with Charlene last night.
"So Patrick is really Hans?" Willa asked before putting a piece of bacon in her mouth. "Never would have seen that one coming."
"Neither will Jess." Willa kicked him under the table. "Ouch!"
"Jess isn't going to take this news well."
"I know."
"So what do you suggest we do?"
"She deserves to know her boyfriend is a Disney villain," Maybeck took a sip of his orange juice. "Who, by the way, is a major douche."
Willa rolled her eyes. "I know…I know…it's just…she's not going to take it well."
Maybeck raised an eyebrow. "Would you take it well if you found out Philby was a Disney villain in disguise?"
Willa pointed her fork at him. "Not funny."
Their waiter came by and refilled their drinks. After thanking him and making sure he was out of earshot, they continued their conversation.
"So where do you suggest we start our search to find them?" He asked her.
Willa thought about it as she finished off her scrambled eggs. "I've got a few ideas."
"Which one do you want to start on?"
It was Willa that raised her eyebrow this time. "You don't want to get those cuts and bruises checked out first? You did take a crazy fall out there."
Maybeck rolled his eyes. "Not the problem. We've got to get Charlene and Philby back."
Willa put her silverware down. "Terry, if you get in a fight, you're going to get severely hurt! Maybe even killed!"
"Okay mom…I'll be fine."
Willa glared at him. Their silent standoff lasted for a solid two minutes before Maybeck gave up.
"Fine, I'll go see a doctor."
Willa smiled. The waiter came by and handed her the check. She paid for it and they walked toward the monorail station.
"I have a feeling we'll hear from Hans or one of the other OT's before the day's over. You can come over after seeing a doctor, so we can wait for the call together."
"What makes you think there'll be a call?"
"Because this time is different, Maybeck." Willa stopped at the end of the waiting line, glancing out the windows for a monorail to take her back to the Transportation and Ticket Center, where her car was awaiting her. "All the rules have changed."
"What makes you say that?"
Willa reached into her pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper. She subtly handed it to Maybeck to not bring any more attention to themselves.
He opened it and quickly read it…and reread it to make sure he was reading it correctly. He shoved it back into Willa's open hand and glanced back at her with a shocked expression.
"You can't be serious."
Willa turned around to face him. "I wouldn't joke about something like that."

Whitman Residence
Kitchen
1:32 P.M.
Amanda had been cooking herself lunch at home when her phone rang. She opened the microwave door so that the annoying beep would stop and hurried into the living room to grab her cell phone.
The caller ID said Jess.
"Hey Jess. What's up?"
"No, you've got the wrong girl."
"Jess?"
Amanda heard something that sounded like a chair getting knocked over and a slap. Both sounds echoed off the walls of whatever room Jess was in.
"Jess?" Amanda felt scared for her sister.
"I'm not Jezebel! You're wrong!" Jess yelled.
"Looks like you." There was a few seconds of silence before Jess gasped.
"Where did you get that picture?"
"Not the problem." Some more shuffling. "You is coming with me."
"Jess?" Amanda asked again, this time her voice was more of a whisper. It was apparent that her sister hadn't meant to call her.
"No thank you, you seem nice and all…but I'd rather just go home."
A strange sound, possibly laughing, echoed throughout the room. "There won't be any home to go back to soon."
"Yeah," a second, deep male voice said. "Maleficent's got special orders for you, miss."
"I won't do anything she says!" Jess stated firmly. "You can go ahead and tell her that."
More awful laughing. "You think you's gonna have a choice…Jezebel?"
"No…she can't…not again..."
The phone cut off.
"Jess?" Amanda tried dialing the number again, but she was immediately cut off by an automated message telling her the "number she had reached was not working."
Amanda went back into the kitchen and started eating her microwaved lunch. She mulled over the phone call in her mind, over and over. Jess had been taken and was going to be turned back into Jezebel. Amanda felt like she was going to be sick. Her awful childhood was coming back in waves, threatening to give her a panic attack—one thing her doctor said was bad to have at this stage in her pregnancy.
She took a deep breath and took a few sips of her water when her phone rang again. This time, the caller ID said Mattie.
"Hey Mattie, look now's not the best time. I just found out that Jess—"
"Amanda?"
His voice made her freeze. The hand holding the phone shook, almost causing her to drop the phone.
"Amanda? Are you there? I haven't got much time."
Amanda swallowed the lump in her throat and pushed back tears. "Finn? Is that really you?"
"Yes," he sounded as if he was holding back tears himself. "It's so good to hear your voice again."
"You too…w-w-where are you?"
She was immediately answered by some static. "Amanda? Are you…there?"
"Finn? Where are you? Tell me so I can come find you!"
"No, Mandy, don't come after me. I'm…" More static. His voice went in and out, giving her every fifth syllable.
"Finn? I can't understand what you're saying!"
"…safe….I'm…coming…you…do…go…MK…castle...Jess...Mermaid...love...and...again..."
The line cut off.
"No, no, no, no, no!" Amanda tried calling back again, but was cut off just as she was with Jess. She closed her eyes and tried to make sense of what she had just heard from both her sister and her husband.
And she came up with a plan. A horrible, flawed plan…but a plan nonetheless.
So that was kind of boring...and the action in the first part went by too fast and wasn't written as well...I know...I know...
BUT I'll do better in the action scenes to come. I promise! Even if it takes me 6 different tries to get it right, I will do so! I know I can do better. I just wanted to get this chapter out of the way. The next (and last) chapters are so much more interesting, I promise.
If there's anything from "Fighting For All That's Good" that you want me to tie in that I haven't already, tell me now. It's your last chance to directly influence the plot of the story. I can tell you that Thomas will be making a come back, as will Willa/Finn sister/brother relationship, and...and I think that's it so far. So if you have something you'd love to see tied in, please let me know either by PM or review.
Speaking of reviews, I know you guys read this story. You know who you are! Please review, I want to know what you think! Even if it's just one word, I don't care. I want your feedback. If there's something you didn't like, let me know. I'll do better to work on it. If there's something you want more of, let me know and I'll try to add more of it. We're at the end now, so I'm not sure how much I can actually add without changing up the whole plot, but I'm up for suggestions!
And speaking of the last few chapters...oh...they're going to be good!
Enjoy your weekend! I'll update as soon as I can (you know how that goes).
