Hawk's Story: Fairy Tail

Chapter 37

When Hawk and Laxus returned to the hotel, everyone was getting ready to head to bed. Hawk had to guide Cana up to the room, because she could barely walk. They quickly fell asleep but unfortunately that didn't last long. Hawk had woken up the sounds of Cana screaming. He shot up and she was flailing next to him still asleep. "Cana, Cana, you've got to wake up!" Hawk shouted, cradling her. "Cana!" Her eyes shot open and she began gasping for air. She was drenched in sweat and tears were streaming down her face. "Cana, what happened?" He asked in a panic.

She looked up at him then quickly wrapped her arms around him. "Thank goodness you're okay!" She cried.

"I'm fine. What happened to you?"

"I-it seemed...so real." She muttered. He could hear the fear in her voice.

That's when something caught his attention. He pulled Cana close and sent a black fire ball at the window. The window exploded, sending dust and splintering wood everywhere. "Hawk, what is it?"

"Stay there!" He told her. He jumped up and went to where the window was. He looked out to see a figure running down the side street.

The door to their room burst open. "What's going on?" Laxus shouted. He was with the Thunder Legion.

Hawk grabbed his sword. "Fried, Bickslow guard the room. Ever, stay with Cana. Laxus, let's go." He bolted from the room and Laxus quickly followed.

They made it down the stairs and out the door. They picked up speed once they were outside. "Are you going to tell me what's going on?" Laxus asked.

"Someone was trying to sneak in."

"What? Who would be dumb enough to do that?"

"Other than Natsu?"

"Good point."

They ran up and down the various side streets and back alleys but came up empty. "Damn it." Hawk muttered.

"Let's head back. We should tell Gramps." Laxus said.

They headed back to the hotel and were greeted by Makarov. "Are you two okay?" He asked.

"Yeah." Hawk growled. Makarov could hear the anger and defeat in his voice. "Is Cana okay?"

"She seems to be calming down." Makarov answered, earning a sigh of relief from Hawk. "Was it him?"

"No, this magic was different."

"Are you sure?"

"I'll never forget his magic."

There was a silence for a moment. "Go tend to Cana." Makarov told him.

"Right."

"Laxus. I need you to keep an extra eye out."

"I know."

Hawk reach his room and Freed and Bickslow were still on guard. "How is she?"

"Ever seems to have calmed her down." Freed answered.

"Thanks, you guys. Master and Laxus will probably want to talk to you guys." Fried and Bickslow nodded and went to find them.

Hawk made his way into his room and Cana and Evergreen were sitting on the edge of the bed. "Thanks Ever, but I'm fine now." Cana told her.

"Okay." She turned to Hawk before leaving. "I'll leave her to you."

"Thank you." Hawk sat down next to Cana when Ever shut the door. Cana quickly cuddled up against him. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah. I know now it was just a dream. It was the most horrible dream I've ever had, but still just a dream." She sighed, clutching at her chest. Her heart was still beating rather quickly.

"What happened?"

"It started out with just darkness. Then when I opened my eyes I realized I was chained to the wall. I looked around and saw the entire guild being massacred by these masked men. When they were...finished, a man with white hair walked over to me. He smiled and said, 'This is your future. I'm coming for him.' Then I woke up."

"White hair? It must have been him." Hawk growled mentally. "Is this the dream from before?"

"It has never been this vivid before."

Hawk took a deep breath to keep calm. "Why don't we go watch the sun rise instead of going back to sleep."

"That'll be a nice." They two of headed out to the roof and watched for the sun to rise.

...

The next morning Makarov informed the guild about last night but gave very minimal details. Everyone accepted his answers and headed for the tournament. Cana went with the Fairy Tail B team to clear her head, while Hawk went to find Black Market.

It wasn't hard to find, like Tai said it was on the same street. Hawk walked in the front and was greeted by the man at the counter. "How may I help you." The man said, not looking up from his paper. It was the man with the mask that took care of Hawk's house, Victor.

"I'm here to see my brother."

Victor looked up and was taken back slightly. "Sure thing." He walked into the back room and returned a moment later with Tai.

"Good morning Little Brother." Tai greeted. "Did you hear all that noise last night?"

Hawk grabbed him by the collar and slammed him against the wall. "What the hell is your deal?" He shouted

"What are you talking about?"

"Why was a member of your guild trying to sneak into my room last night?"

"That's not possible! All my members were accounted for last night!"

"Prove it." Hawk told him, letting him down.

"Victor, Newbie get out here!" Tai ordered, fixing his shirt. Victor and another younger man walked over.

"Show me your hands." Hawk told them.

They both looked to Tai. "Do it." They put their hands out and Hawk looked them over. He let out a sigh of defeat after that. "What were you looking for?"

"The person trying to sneak into my room had a Black Market Emblem on his right hand. Are these the only two with you?"

"Yeah, Victor always runs the store and the Newbie is here to learn. I'm only here to cheer for Fairy Tail." Tai explained.

Hawk let out a frustrated sigh. "God damn it."

"What happened?"

"I really don't know."

Tai put his hand on Hawk's shoulder. "I'll look around the city for anything suspicious. Go join your friends."

"I guess that's all I can do. Thanks." Hawk smiled halfheartedly then headed out.

"Victor. You know what to do." Tai said, earning a nod.

...

When Hawk arrived at the arena, it was already time for the battle portion of the day. Cana was sitting in the cheering section and she explained everything that happened. How Lucy was beaten up by Minerva of Sabertooth and that Fairy Tail A and B had to form one team. "But at least we're matched up with Sabertooth, so we can get revenge." Cana said excitedly.

"What's the match up?"

Cana smiled. "Natsu and Gajeel versus Sting and Rogue."

"A Dragon Slayer Tag Battle! Normally you pay extra for that kinda fight!"

"Yeah, Natsu and Gajeel are going to crush them. It's too bad we have wait another half hour."

"What? That's too long!" He whined.

"Relax, why do you get something to eat." She suggested.

"That's a good idea. I'll be back." Hawk headed out of the cheering section and down to the food court. Every window was pack with people and the wait was going to suck. However, he spotted a giant pretzel cart with no one at it. He rushed over and ordered one. After he paid and headed on his way back, he was stopped by a familiar face.

"I see you aren't taking the matchup very seriously." Marcus greeted.

"What do you want?" Hawk asked with a mouth full of pretzel.

"Just wandering. I hope you know that your weak Dragon Slayers will drop fast."

Hawk rolled his eyes. "I get that you've got your head up your ass since you joined Sabertooth, but you know how strong Natsu is by now."

"You mean the Dragon Slayer that can't use Dragon Force at will? Out of all the Dragon Slayers, Natsu is the weakest."

"You weren't on Tenroujima. He got stronger then and again before the tournament. Sting and Rogue may be Third Generation Dragon Slayers, but Natsu and Gajeel are Fairy Tail Wizards. That trumps any magic."

Marcus chuckled. "You really are a fool."

"Why don't you and I just settle this." Hawk's fist blazed with black fire.

A guard quickly rushed over. "Hey, no magic outside the arena!" He told them.

"Perfect timing." Marcus said. He took a piece of paper out of his pocket. "Here, give this to the King. I'm sure he'll love it."

"What is that?" Hawk asked. Marcus walked over and whispered in his ear. Hawk smiled. "I can think of no better way to settle this."
