The end of Lily's fourth year had actually been a lot of fun. There were no massive exams to prepare for, not even for Scorpius and his year, which meant that once the compulsory end of year exams were done with, they all had a few spare days to simply lounge about and enjoy each other's company.

Lily was especially excited for her final few days at Hogwarts because apparently Scorpius had planned something special for their anniversary. Their first anniversary.

"Are you ready to go?" Dominique asked, tapping her feet on the floor outside the girls' bathroom. "I swear Scorpius said to meet him at eight, in the Entrance Hall."

Poking her head out of the door, she shot a scowl at her cousin. "Thanks for that reminder," she replied sarcastically, before disappearing and leaving the door slightly ajar. "I just can't find my lip balm."

"Have you checked your pockets?" Ariana called out from her bed.

This time, Lily stalked into the dormitory, heading straight for her schoolbag. "Of course I've checked my pockets. What kind of question is that?"

"Just check," her best friend insisted.

Rolling her eyes, Lily stopped searching in her bag and patted down the pockets in her acid-wash shorts. There she felt a tube-shaped object. Guiltily she looked at Ariana and pulled her lip balm out of her pocket. "Oops," she muttered.

"Now hurry up and go," Dominique insisted, already at the door of their dormitory, holding to open. "It's nearly quarter past eight."

Rubbing her lips together, Lily slipped her lip balm back into her pocket and smoothed down her denim shorts. "He waited months before I agreed to be his girlfriend, a couple of minutes won't do him any harm," she joked, slipping her Converse on her feet. As she stood up straight, she flicked her curls over her shoulders and blew out a breath. "I'll see you guys later," she said, blowing air kisses as her cousin shut her out of the dormitory.

With a smile on her face, Lily left Gryffindor Tower and made her way through the corridors of Hogwarts, hurrying down the secret passages that would get her to the Entrance Hall that little bit quicker. The sun was slowing setting in the distance, casting a beautiful orange glow through the tall windows. As Lily walked down a corridor, the orange glow was disrupted by a shadow.

"Oh hi Lily," Rose said quickly, packing the piece of parchment she had been scribbling on mere moments ago back into her bag. "I didn't hear you coming."

"Sorry," Lily muttered unenthusiastically. She hadn't seen much of her cousin after she tried to interfere with her relationship with Scorpius. They had come to a mutual understanding to ignore one another. She continued on her way to the Entrance Hall.

"Wait," Rose exclaimed, jumping off of the window sill. "I just want to apologise to you," she said, hauling her bag onto her shoulder. At that, Lily spun around on her heels, in shock. "I'm sorry for all the things I put you and Scorpius through. I've thought about it a lot and I realised I haven't been a very good cousin to you. But that will all change from now on, I promise."

Lily smiled weakly, taken back by Rose's apologies. "Thank you?" she said unsure. "I appreciate your apology."

"Don't worry," Rose added hastily. "I'll apologise to Scorpius when I get the chance too."

"I'm sure he'll appreciate it, just as much as I do," Lily replied, slightly shocked when Rose opened her arms and wrapped them around Lily's small frame. The hug was brief and felt unnatural but Lily didn't grimace, instead choosing to smile at Rose and make her excuses to leave.

As soon as she arrived at the Entrance Hall and saw Scorpius waiting for her, with his messy blonde hair and his tall, muscular body, Lily hopped down the stairs excitedly, throwing herself into his arms. "You will never guess what happened to me?"

"You just saw Professor McGonagall wearing a bikini?" Scorpius guessed, peering down to look at her. His ever-present smirk lifted his lips.

Lily leaned back awkwardly, still in his arms, and shot Scorpius a questioning look. "Are you thinking about Professor McGonagall in a bikini?" she asked, her voice bordering on disgust.

"Well now I am," he admitted, throwing his hands up in the air. "But that can easily be fixed," he added, bringing his hands down on her cheeks and leaning down to kiss her fully on the lips. When he pulled back, his smirk was still on his lips. "Professor who?" he asked jokingly.

"That's what I like to hear," Lily remarked, with a swift kiss on his cheek. "But that's not what I wanted to tell you."

Scorpius bent down and picked up a basket she hadn't noticed before. "Can we walk and talk?" he asked, taking her hand and pulling her towards the big doors. With a nod of Lily's head, Scorpius' smirk grew bigger as they slipped out into the sunset. "Now what is it you wanted to talk about?"

Outside the castle, Lily ran a hand through her hair and took a deep breath of fresh air. "I saw Rose when I was walking down here. She apologised to me about everything," she replied, cuddling up closer to him even though there wasn't a chill in the air. "It was really weird."

"Do you think it was a genuine apology?" Scorpius asked, letting go of her hand so he could wrap his hand around her small waist and lead her down the grounds. "It wouldn't be the first time she's lied," he said with a shrug of his shoulders.

"I honestly think she meant it," Lily exclaimed, resting her head on his shoulder lazily. "She was really kind. Surprisingly."

"Let's hope she's turned over a new piece of parchment then," Scorpius replied, planting a small kiss on the temple of her forehead. "Now enough talk about your cousin," he declared, leading her to the big oak tree – the exact spot where they met for their first date. "Tonight is about me and you."

"Are we going to the Shrieking Shack?" Lily asked, looking up at her boyfriend's beautiful face.

He shook his head. "It's still really dirty from yesterday's party," he replied.

The memories of the night before came flooding back to Lily, making her smile inwardly. Unlike the last time they had gone to a party at the Shrieking Shack, Lily had managed to stay clear of all Muggle alcohol, sticking to Butterbeer instead. She spent the night dancing her friends, kissing Scorpius and just having a great time. And this time she had woken up the next morning without a massive headache.

"Then where are you taking me?" Lily asked curiously.

"Here," Scorpius replied, stopping the pair of them under the tall oak tree's branches. "I thought we would have a little picnic by ourselves and watch the moon and stars come up." He set the picnic basket down, opened it up and took out one of the blankets, laying it over the ground. Smoothing it out, he sat down and patted the spot next to him for Lily.

As she sat down, he produced steaming hot pots of Chinese food that made Lily smile. "Aw," she cooed, taking the pot into her hands along with a fork. "It's just like our first date," she murmured, more to herself than to Scorpius. "It's been so long since then."

Settling down with his back resting on the trunk of the oak tree, Scorpius smirked at her and popped the lid of his food, prodding it with his chopsticks. "This year with you has been one of the best of my life," he said, folding his noodles into his mouth.

Slowly Lily slid up to his side, nearly sitting on his lap as they looked out the Black Lake that was more orange as it reflected the sunset. "It's been one of the best for me too. Actually probably the best," she murmured in reply, tucking into her food and swirling the noodles around her fork.

"We've had our ups and downs," Scorpius reminded her, obviously thinking of all the times Rose had tried to get in the way of the pair of them. Her head instantly fell onto his shoulder in comfort, her legs kicked up over his. "But I think we've proved that a Malfoy and a Potter can be together."

"I think everyone already knew that, what with the little bromance you and Albus have together. You make poor Kaleb feel all lonely," Lily joked, twisting more noodles around her fork.

Scorpius shoved her playfully. "You're one to talk. Watching you and Ari together is just weird," he countered.

"It's only weird for you boys," Lily replied. "Plus she's my best friend. We've gotten to that stage in our friendship where everything is ok."

"You spoon!" Scorpius exclaimed loudly.

At this, Lily burst out laughing as she slowly chewed her food with her hand over her mouth. "I've told you this before," she sighed, swallowing her noodles. "It's not anything sexual, simply Muggle. Maybe one day I'll spoon with you."

"Muggles confuse me," Scorpius moaned, rubbing his forehead as if he had a headache. "Actually, girls confuse me."

"Yeah, well you're not exactly an open book, Mr Malfoy," she replied jokingly, looking up at her boyfriend with frowning brown eyes. "But I'm slowly learning," she added self-satisfyingly.

Running his fingers down the side of her face, he tilted his head up so he could plant a soft kiss on her lips. "I plan on there being plenty more years for you to learn," he whispered, kissing her again, just long enough to make her head swirl but not enough to satisfy her. With a knowing smirk, he pulled away and let his fingers run themselves off her face, before tucking back into his Chinese.

"Always so confident," Lily muttered into her noodles, replicating his classic smirk on her own lips.

They finished their food in near silence, happy to simply watch the sun fall behind the forest. As it did so, shimmers of orange and red streaked the sky, fading slowly as the purples and blues of the night sky chased them. It was a beautiful view Lily felt very lucky to see, especially with someone she loved as much as Scorpius.

Over the past months, she had come to the conclusion that she did love Scorpius. There was no way she could deny it, not even to herself. Every day she woke up thinking about him, missing him. Her heart would skip a beat whenever she saw him and the butterflies in her stomach would do somersaults with every kiss, no matter how small or brief. But Lily didn't know if he felt the same way, and she wasn't about to go and embarrass herself, so instead she kept her feelings a secret.

The only secret she's ever kept from him.

Surrounded by empty Chinese pots, Lily rested her head on Scorpius' chest, tracing small circles across his ribs as he ran his fingers through her hair. The sun had completely disappeared behind the Forbidden Forest and now any illumination came from the big, bright moon above them. "Thank you for tonight," Lily murmured, tilting her head to look up at his face. "I can't think of a better way to celebrate our anniversary."

"This isn't even your anniversary surprise," Scorpius teased, smirking down at her. "Technically our anniversary is tomorrow and just so you know, I'm going to spoil you." He ran a finger across her cheek, brushing the blush that was rising to her skin.

Rolling over, Lily rested on her arms, propping herself up on his chest, "Why are you spoiling me so much? It's your anniversary too. I'm supposed to spoil you but you're not giving me the chance."

"Why am I spoiling you?" Scorpius scoffed, rumbling with so much laughter that it jostled Lily's head. "Because I love you Lil," he declared, breaking out into the biggest and brightest smile Lily had ever seen.

He sat up properly, picking Lily up in his arms and placing her into his lap. Both hands cupped her cheeks, thumbs caressing her burning blush. "I love you so much Lily Potter and all I want to do is give you the whole world. You are the most beautiful girl I've ever seen and you're all I'll ever want. Over the last year, I've never been so happy and that's all down to you."

Overcome with emotion, Lily reached up and pulled Scorpius' head closer to her. Her lips pressed themselves up against his, moving her lips with his. Pushing her body up against his, she felt his hands dropped from her face to her waist, gripping her hips tightly. In response, she ran her tongue across his bottom tongue, brushing against Scorpius', smirking as the familiar growl that emanated from his chest.

"I love you too," Lily gasped, pulling her lips only an inch away from Scorpius. Her brown eyes looked directly into his grey ones and a smile crept up on her lips. "I feel like I've always loved you. Ever since Albus brought you home for the summer. Back then, it may have been a schoolgirl crush but under it all, perhaps it was love."

"You have no idea how much I wanted to hear that," Scorpius replied, gripping tightly once more and crashing his lips against hers, kissing her with such passion and emotion, a tear began to build up in Lily's eye. "Are you crying?" he asked worriedly, cupping Lily's cheeks once again.

"Not intentionally," she sniffled, reaching up to run the back of her hand across her wet cheeks. "I'm just really happy," she breathed, smiling as Scorpius looked at her tears and kissed them away.

One hand smoothed itself down her hair while the other tilted her chin towards the sky. "All I want is for you to be happy," he whispered, his lips creeping closer to hers. Gently they pressed together, just as a shiver wiggled up Lily's spine. Scorpius laughed lightly, pulling away and reaching towards the picnic basket. "Here we go," he murmured, revealing another blanket.

As Scorpius leant back against the oak tree's trunk, Lily snuggled up closer to him, curling up between his legs with her head resting on his chest. His long arms wrapped them up in the blanket for hugging Lily's body in a warm embrace.

"Can you just say it one more time?" Lily asked, feeling like she needed to pinch herself.

His face screwed up as he looked down at Lily's innocent face. "Say what?"

"Just say it again Scor," Lily pleaded, forming her lips into a small pout. "Just one more time?"

With a long sigh and a dramatic roll of his eyes, Scorpius smirked down at Lily, the moonlight casting a little sparkle in his grey eyes. "Lily Luna Potter, I love you with all my heart and soul," he declared dramatically, his words caressing her just as much as his touch. "Happy?" he asked jokingly.

"Completely," Lily replied.

Yawning quietly, Lily's eyes fluttered open to a very confusing scene. There was unexpected light all around her and she knew instantly she wasn't in her dormitory. Underneath her was the warm body of her boyfriend and above her were the tangled branches of the big oak tree. "Holy Hufflepuff," she muttered awkwardly, realising that both of them had fallen asleep outside and it was now dawn. "Scorpius?" she murmured, scooting up his body so they were face to face. "Baby, it's morning already."

All of a sudden, his grey eyes opened wide and he had gripped Lily tightly around the waist, rolling them over so she was under him on a tiny sliver of the blanket. "Good morning beautiful," he yawned, kissing Lily's fully on the lips with such energy, it charged every cell in her body.

"Good morning to you too," Lily replied, the breath taken out of her lungs at the urgency of his kiss. "I can't believe we both fell asleep." Absentmindedly, she reached up and ran a hand through his messy hair, spiking it up slightly. There was something oddly intimate about waking up with Scorpius that made her feel nervous. But it was comforting to know that he was just as attractive first thing in the morning as well.

With his soft touch, he pushed a strand of hair around. "Happy official anniversary," he whispered, kissing Lily again but with less energy this time, allowing his lips time to warm her whole body up.

"Happy anniversary Scor," she replied, running a hand off his face with a tingling touch. "Can we go and get some breakfast? I'm hungry," she asked, as Scorpius pulled the both of them to a sitting position.

"Of course beautiful," he agreed, helping her to her feet. Then he pulled out his wand and made the blankets and the picnic basket disappear. "Now let's go and then soon we'll be on our way home – where your next surprise is."

"Another?" Lily exclaimed, folding her hand into Scorpius and starting the walk back up the Grounds to the castle. "How many surprises am I in for today?" she asked. "I feel like I need to be prepared."

"Just a few," he assured her, leaning over to kiss her briefly on her temple. "And I'm definite you'll love them."

With a roll of her eyes, Lily let out a long sigh and put the matter to rest. There was no point in fighting him, because Scorpius Malfoy admittedly liked to win. "If I'm going to get through all these surprises, I'm going to need bacon. Lots of bacon!" Skipping a couple of steps, Lily pulled Scorpius up the hill and into the castle.

"I'm sorry your father couldn't be there to pick you guys up," Ginny said, taking down the protective spells from their house. With the last spell down, the gate swung open and Ginny stepped through, letting Albus and Lily walk past her before turning to put the spells back up. "He's off on another mission. He's been gone for about a week but he should be back soon."

Lily blew the hair out of her face as she heaved her heavy trunk towards the door. "It's fine Mum," she called back. "It's just good to be home," she sighed, shouldering the front door open and pulling her trunk into the hall before dropping it with a thud.

"I've missed Grandma's brownies," Albus exclaimed excitedly, parking his trunk beside Lily's. "Oh and by the way, I need some new shirts. Belle chewed through the last ones," he said, leaning against the door frame as his mother walked in. "Devil cat," he muttered under his breath.

That earned him a slap around the back of the head from Lily.

"I bought you those shirts at Christmas!" Lily's mother cried, her face appalled. Lily had to open the fridge for some pumpkin juice just to hide her giggles. Albus was in trouble, she thought. "They barely lasted you six months."

"Mum I need a new shirt for tomorrow. I'm having dinner with Ariana's dad for the first time and I have to make a good impression," he complained, falling into his father's chair. "Apparently he's really far up in the Muggle world."

Running a hand through her hair, Lily watched as her mother leaned against the counter-top and let out a deep breath. It was then that she realised the dark circles under her eyes. How long had her mother stayed up at night, unable to sleep? Without a second thought, Lily closed the fridge and went over to hug her mum, resting her head on her shoulder comfortingly.

Ginny looked down at her daughter with a tired smile. "Fine," she sighed, loudly, closing her eyes and rubbing them soothingly in circles. "We'll go shopping tomorrow."

"Thanks Mum," Albus chimed happily, jumping from the chair and kissing his mother's cheek. "You're the best." He then went about rummaging in the cupboards, probably looking for some snacks.

"What time is Scorpius picking you up?" Ginny asked, pushing the hair out of Lily's face gently.

Confused, Lily pulled back. "How do you know about that? Why does everyone but me know what he's got planned?" She felt the pout form on her lips. It wasn't that Lily was ungrateful for everything Scorpius was doing for her. She just didn't like the idea of people knowing things that she didn't, especially about herself.

"Calm down Lils," Ginny replied, reeling her daughter back in for another hug. "Your father and I received a letter from Scorpius a month ago, telling us of his plans and asking if it was alright for him to take you out. Now would you like me to do your hair?"

Lily let out a calming breath and smiled as the thought hit her. If Ginny fussed around with Lily, she would be distracted from thinking about Harry's absence. "Could you do that plaited bun that we saw in the Muggle magazine?" Hopefully it was intricate enough to distract Lily's mother.

"Of course honey," Ginny agreed, stretching her smile into one that was genuine. "But we best get started now if you want to be ready in time."

"Ok," Lily replied, kissing her mother softly. "Let me just shower and then we can get started."

####

After a quick shower, Lily slipped into some sweatpants and an old Falcons t-shirt that probably belonged to James. Then she hurried downstairs to her mum and together they sat watching Muggle television while Lily's hair was Charmed dry and then slowly twisted her hair into a high ponytail, with small plaits running throughout her hair. The auburn locks were then picked up and lifted into a bun. When Lily looked into a mirror, she was amazed by how beautiful her hair looked.

She checked the time, panicking slightly when she realised that she only had half an hour to get ready. Thanking her mother, Lily ran back upstairs to her room, throwing open her trunk and finding her burgundy skater skirt, her white blouse with cut-outs along the collarbone with a pair of tights and her black leather ankle boots. She changed and then sat in her bathroom with her make-up bag, in front of her big mirror. Adding some concealer, eye-liner, mascara and coloured lip balm, Lily rubbed her lips and went back into her bedroom to prepare a bag.

That was when the doorbell rung

"Can somebody get that? I'm not quite ready!" Lily called out from her bedroom door before running around her room trying to find her wand. Once everything was packed, she grabbed her fur-lined coat from her bed and closed the door behind herself, making her way down the stairs.

From the foyer, she heard her brother let out a long breath. "You'd best get used to waiting for her mate," he sighed exhaustedly and Lily could imagine him rolling his eyes. "Ari is just the same," he added.

"I'm not running that late," Lily complained, walking down the last of the stairs. A smile instantly stretched across her face, as she took in the sight of her attractive boyfriend, standing beside Albus in a grey polo shirt and dark jeans. Lily's head was swooning. "Hey baby," she said, dropping off the last step into Scorpius' arms. Her head tilted up and her lips found his easily.

Behind her, Albus started to make throwing-up sounds. "I'm leaving before Mum's cookies make an appearance."

Lily grinned against her boyfriend's lips. "Now that's he's gone," she murmured and then pushed herself up against Scorpius, seizing his face in her hand and pulling it down. They kissed deeper and with more passion than they probably ever had in Lily's house. But with her dad away, Lily felt like she needed Scorpius to distract her in the best way possible.

"Would you like your present now?" Scorpius asked when they finally pulled apart. Lily nodded up at him excitedly, a big grin curling her lips up. He rummaged in his pockets and revealed a red, velvet box, handing it over to Lily.

Popping the lid, she gasped in pure shock, holding her hand up to her mouth as her jaw dropped. "It's beautiful," she whispered, tucking her clutch bag under her arm so she could hold the box and take the stunning silver bracelet out – a thick-chained bracelet with a handprint charm dangling off the middle. "Can you help me put it on?" she asked, holding out the arm that wasn't sporting her snake bracelet.

Scorpius took the bracelet from Lily's fingers and wrapped it around her wrist, fastening the clasp and letting his hand trickle across the chain and down to the little handprint that was attached. "For our first date," he whispered, releasing the charm from his fingertips. "And for our first anniversary,"" he finished, cradling her chin in his grip and planting a soft kiss on her lips.

"I love you so much," Lily murmured, kissing him again and again before hugging him tightly and resting her head on his shoulder, smiling brightly at the bracelet from behind his back. "And I plan on loving you until this bracelet is filled with a lot more charms," she breathed directly into his ear before resting her heels back on the ground.

"Now do you want your present?" she asked, moving to the chest of drawers in the hall where she had hid his present earlier. From the cupboard she pulled out her present for Scorpius – a picture frame that featured Lily and Scorpius at the Slytherin Ball last Christmas. They were spinning on the dance floor slowly, staring up at each other. It wasn't her favourite picture of them both but Ariana promised her it would definitely be his. Walking back to him, she held it out with a grinning smile. "Happy anniversary!"

He ripped off the paper with childish eagerness, but his features softened as he pulled out the picture frame she'd found over the Easter holidays in a vintage store. It was silver and had snakes twisting around the edges of the frame. Lily watched as his fingers traced the photo of them, his genuine smile curling the corners of his lips. "This is amazing," Scorpius mumbled, his focus mesmerised on the photo. "You are amazing," he continued, pulling her closer to mould his lips to hers like pieces of a puzzle.

"Shall we go?" he asked softly as he licked his lips. When Lily nodded, a smirk transformed on his lips and he placed his picture on the chest of drawers. "I'll collect it when we come back."

Turning her head towards the kitchen, Lily called out, "I'll see you later Mum. We won't be back too late." When she heard her mother agree, she took Scorpius' hand and let him lead her out of Potter Cottage and onto the side of the road.

Under Scorpius' orders, they summoned the Knight Bus, which took them to wherever Scorpius told them to on the piece of paper he handed the conductor. They sat together with Lily's legs propped up over Scorpius', snuggled up into his side. As the bus swerved speedily through Muggle traffic, Lily confessed her worries about her dad to him. They talked it over, with Scorpius kissing her reassuringly and putting her mind at ease.

When the conductor announced their stop, Scorpius hopped off of the bus and helped Lily down, telling her to close her eyes. Lily did as he said and walked blindly forwards. All around her were the screams and cries of elated people, confusing Lily as to where Scorpius had actually brought her. When he told her to open her eyes, she was shocked by what she saw.

"Albus says it's called a funfair?" Scorpius said unsurely.

She giggled into his arms, kissing him fully on the lips. She loved when Scorpius got confused by the Muggle things in life. It made him seem a little bit more innocent and vulnerable. "He was right," she replied, folding her hand into Scorpius and pulling him towards the gates. "Now let's go and have fun."

Fun was definitely was Lily and Scorpius had.

They went on every ride available, some more than once. At times, they were so high up in the air, Lily felt like she was flying again. They were spun around so fast that Lily's internal organs were pushed up against her spine and her stomach felt like it was doing somersaults, a sensation she only got from kissing Scorpius. Lily's favourite ride had been the dodgems, because Scorpius even let her drive.

Afterwards they got some burgers and some candyfloss – which amazed Scorpius' magical mind – before hopping back on the Knight Bus and heading back to Godric's Hollow. When they arrived outside Potter's Cottage, Scorpius escorted Lily to her front door.

"Ssh," she insisted, biting back her own giggles while placing her finger over Scorpius' lips. "It's pretty late. My mum might be in bed already." Using her key, she pushed the door open quietly and pulled Scorpius in with her, tiptoeing across the hall.

"Is that your dad's voice?" Scorpius breathed into her ear, pointing towards the kitchen door. It was only then that Lily heard the voice of her father emanating from the kitchen.

Taking small steps forward, she gripped Scorpius' hand tighter and listened out for her father's words.

"I'm just so frustrated!" she heard him growl, banging something down on what she assumed was the table. "I can't believe we almost had him and I let him slip through my fingers. I don't understand how he's managed to remain hidden for all these years – he must be getting some assistance from somewhere. If I can find that link, it'll lead me straight to him,"

Through the door, Lily heard the shuffle of footsteps, followed by her mother's voice. "At least you are home safe and sound," she sighed. "Teddy and Victoire want us over for dinner as soon as possible."

"Brilliant," her father huffed under his breath. "Another person to worry about." For a second, Lily wondered what her dad meant. Was Victoire pregnant?"

There was a shuffle of furniture that obscured Lily's mother's reply, but she managed to hear the end of it. "Now how about I run you a bath and you can rid yourself of all that stress?" There was the distinct sound of kissing, something that made Lily feel like she was going to throw up.

Both Lily and Scorpius immediately backed up, with Scorpius leaning over to retrieve his present from where he'd left it. They shared a brief kiss, not wanting to get caught by her parents. He assured her he would see her tomorrow and then he disappeared from the house with a tiny click of the door. Slipping her shoes off, Lily scurried upstairs before her mum and dad could leave the kitchen.

As she fell asleep that night, she fiddled with her new charm bracelet and revelled in how amazing her first anniversary with Scorpius had been.
