Not near as long as my last chapter, but heeeey two closely spaced updates? I'm proud of myself! I wrote this at like 4am after having not slept XD
"Ta many damn Alliance." Zelaji spat, lip curling back to reveal sharp teeth, eyes narrowed in distrust.
Keina was seriously done with trolls at the moment, because it didn't matter that Vojjin has been traveling with two night elves for a lengthy amount of time. The damned fiery haired rogue was sitting next to the teal hair troll and matching Zel's expression of distrust.
How was one draenai too much to handle?
"For the last time," Keina hissed out "I myself am Alliance."
Vojjin drew his amber gaze away from the huntress to meet her eyes, his expression visibly softened as he began to speak. "Yer different."
Keina's heart gave a stutter but she forced her expression into a stern one. "It doesn't change the fact that I am a night elf, Kaldorei, a child of the stars. And at the end of the day I still am Alliance." The young druid sighed and resisted the urge to pinch the bridge of her nose, overprotective trolls were a pain. "Isirah saved my life, and she knows Northrend better than we do."
Both of the trolls squared their shoulders and narrowed their eyes at Keina. Were those two seriously not related in any way, because that was simply uncanny. Keina forced herself to ignore their movements and went back to the conversation at hand. "She's coming and that's it. I'll go with or without you," she directed her attention to Zelaji "since when did you decide to join this group?"
The teal haired troll shrugged. "Ya seem interestin' and I have some unfinished business with dat troll, and da man pullin' da strings."
Keina's eyes lit up at the mention of the mastermind behind this. "You know of him?"
Zelaji grimaced. "Not much, just dat he be a very powerful warlock capable of enthrallin' the dead."
The color seemed to drain from Vojjin's face. "So dere be a chance dat my brother be under his control?"
Dalnaar chose this moment to speak up. "That would be nice, yes, but don't get your hopes set on it. It's quite often that the act of dying and being brought back changes the person for the worst." The druid's eyes visibly darkened and his hands tightened on Keina where he had been focusing on healing her. "Sometimes the magic overwrites things, changes memories, basically makes them more corrupt. Evil to say the least."
Keina nodded, her expression grim. "It's why our people frown on such unnatural magic." Her expression turned bitter. "Why do you think most night elves brought back from the dead don't stay that way long. It will drive them mad, the hate of being something so corrupt warring with the instinctual urge to thrive."
Vojjin didn't say anything, his eyes saying everything she needed to know. He was now stuck on the thought that his brother was under the warlock's control. Keina's heart seemed to tighten in her chest, impossible, but it's exactly what it felt like. The image of Vojjin lying lifeless against the stark white snow of Northrend was now rising in her mind, the crimson seeming to paint the back of her eyelids and not leave. She had to somehow convince him not to go, or she was going to lose him.
Zelaji thankfully pulled her from her thought. "Yer able ta stand dat undead though."
Keina shrugged, "I actually like Lomali, even though she is Forsaken, and a warlock. Both of those things go against the natural balance of things." She herself wasn't quite able to explain it, but she wouldn't have Lomali any other way.
The entire time Isirah had been sitting back and had remained silent. "From the sound of it your group is quite large, it would probably be best to split into two groups, one would pursue this warlock and the other would obviously go after that damned troll's brother."
Obviously Isirah wasn't very trusting of Vojjin either. Keina could feel another headache coming on. "That's actually a wonderful idea, once we get back to the rest of the group we'll decide who makes up which group." Keina winced, her head was now pounding. "Now if you will all go somewhere else, I plan on sleeping. I'm done with all this damned bickering." Damn propriety, she was too tired to act the wise elf.
Dalnaar ran a hand through her hair and leaned close to press his lips against her forehead. "Get some rest, I'll be back to change your bandages later."
Keina was honestly shocked, Dalnaar hadn't done that since she was a child. He must have honestly thought her gone if he was now treating her like a youngling. The only one who really put up a fuss at being shooed out of the room was Vojjin, Dalnaar had to basically drag him out of the room. Zel had been no help, not being able to hide his obvious amusement at the scene, and Isirah had been a threatening presence to draenei had followed behind Dalnaar and had glared dagger at both of the rogues, basically daring them to try and get past her.
As always Keina's dreams seemed to drift back to the forests of Ashenvale, a calloused thumb gently caressing her cheek drew her from her sleep. She had never been a very deep sleeper, her eyelids fluttered opened and she was met with the from of Vojjin, he had somehow moved her to where her head rested on his lap. "I thought I told you to go." She grumbled, but made no move to move away from her makeshift pillow.
Vojjin's thumb stilled in its movements only for a mere moment before continuing what it had been doing. "Ya never told me I couldn't sneak back in." His lips tilted up in a grin. "Dat be what I do after all."
Keina felt her own lips tilt up in a grin, the rogue's good mood was far too contagious. "I want you to go after the warlock." She muttered, the hand she hand resting on his thigh tightened it's grip on the leather of his pants.
The troll stilled. "Ya want me ta leave my brother."
Keina shook her head and pressed her face into his leg in an attempt to hide it, the movement made the troll's hand slide from her cheek and to her shoulder. "I don't want you to abandon him, I want you safe." She could try to paint a pretty story of how she needed him and his fighting skills going after the warlock. But she couldn't even muster the strength to lie to him at the moment. "You won't come back if you go after your brother." Her words were muffled, but she knew he could still hear her.
The heat rolling off of him was almost searing at this point, Keina was on edge, unsure of how he would react. Would he listen, or would he take this as her telling him he was weak. There was still so much she didn't know about him, and oh how she longed for the time to learn it all. Her heart longed for this troll, she wanted forever with him.
Vojjin's hand tightened on her shoulder, but not tight to the point he was angry, it seemed to be a comforting touch. His hand slid carefully across her shoulder blades and up to her head and started gently massaging her scalp. "Ya truly believe I won't come back?"
She nodded. "I know, I can't tell you how, but I know."
His teeth clicked together and a low rumble left his throat as he seemed to mull over her words. "Dat be my brother, I owe him dis."
"I assure you I'll do all I can to bring him back to you, just please, don't go after him." She drew herself up from his lap and carefully turned to where she could stare into his eyes. "Please."
Amber stared into silver.
Vojjin let his head fall forward with a sigh, and somehow he managed to cradle his head into the spot where her neck met her shoulder without poking her with his tusks. "Fine." He breathed out, the puff of hot breath against her skin caused it to prickle into gooseflesh.
Keina honestly couldn't believe he had agreed so readily. No, the two hadn't outright spoken about what was between them, and this was honestly the closest they had come. Whatever words she had been about to say stuck in her throat as the rogue moved once more. He pressed one large hand against the small of her back and drew her closer. His head moved from the cradle of her neck and he pressed his forehead against hers, his eyes staring directly at her again.
A shiver ran down her spine, a pleasant one for once, his eyes seemed to sear right into her. "Ya promise me somethin'." He murmured, she could feel the rumble of his voice from how close she was pressed. "Ya come back ta me."
As overused as the word was, and she always thought it was so silly, she found herself answering. "Always."
Vojjin's lips quirked up in the same grin she had come to find herself so fond in the next moment she found his lips pressed against hers in a kiss. It wasn't like the kiss in the dungeons, this one was sweet yet almost desperate.
A mix between cherishing this moment and afraid it would fall to pieces and never come again. Whatever what was going on between them was called it was uncertain it would even get the chance to blossom into something that would last. Their mortality was always looming above their heads.
In this moment however both of them seemed to focus only on the heat of their bodies pressed together. Vojjin's hand flexed against the back of her head, as if he wanted to tighten his grip and deepen the kiss. Keina wasn't sure how long they had been at this before Vojjin drew back, their breaths visible in the cold air.
"Ya come back." Vojjin repeated, his voice hoarse. It was almost as if he didn't believe her.
Keina didn't blame him, she didn't believe herself. She most definitely did not trust herself to come back from this, but she would do what she could. She wanted this possible future with him, no matter how much she had told herself to not let this develop she just couldn't let it go now.
So that's how she found herself once again saying "Always."
She wanted to pass the years with him, wake up to that grin every morning, even if seemed to be impossible. She couldn't care less for the forbidden aspect of this relationship at the moment nor the impossibility of it. If he would let her, if she did in fact come back, maybe she would tell him how night elves courted.
In the end however, Keina didn't trust herself to come back from this, and it left a very bitter feeling in the pit of her stomach.
So much fluff. My days have been filled with working, skype, and playing Amnesia xD Enjoy the chapter
