Chapter 35:

"Ariel, I'll get more, just stay put and calm alright." Carlisle said, but I couldn't, the itch and burn was too much. It was too strong, I needed more of whatever was in that cup, he wasn't moving fast enough. He nodded to Emmett, then vanished, I rolled my eyes and let Emmett go, about to follow him and find every drop of whatever that fire was. "Ariel?" I ignored him, it was beginning to hurt again, Carlisle was a vampire, he was fast, he should have been back by now. He wasn't going to bring more of that stuff, he was probably going to tell the others something. I was on my own and needed more.

I breathed deeply, smelling around to see if the stuff was close enough that I could find it myself, and smiled when it filled my nose once more. I took a step and another, getting closer to the glass door that had the scent behind it. I went to open the door, but Emmett's arms wrapped around me, holding me against him, his breath tickling my ear as he spoke in a soft tone. "Please stay put, I need you to just relax and stay with me. Everything will be better in a few minutes. Just wait." "I can't, it hurts and I need more." "I know…we'll get more, together." I blinked at him, what was he talking about, he liked that odd stuff in the cup too?

Burning returned and I grabbed at my throat, ready to just tear it out to make it stop. He was still holding me, yet I could feel his body tensed up, he wasn't being sweet, it was like he was holding me back, making me stay put, he was making sure I didn't move another inch. I knew I couldn't move him if I wanted to, he was like a boulder, but I needed to move, to get that stuff and make this ache go away. I breathed in, then grabbed his hands and pulled with all my might to try to get out of his grip. I was surprised when he moved with ease, I flipped him completely over my head and sent him straight through the glass door.

I gasped and went to go to him, but then the scent filled the room, it was everywhere I needed that more than I needed to make sure he was alright. After all he was a vampire and wasn't easily broken. I was still unsure of how I just did that, but it didn't matter anymore, I was free to go find that liquid again, the burn was about to be gone. However, he recovered quickly and grabbed my leg, making me trip and fall into the broken glass. I waited for the pain to come and blood to cover the ground, yet it didn't happen. "Emmett, I could've hurt myself on this glass! We aren't all like you!" I scolded him and he blinked at me, clearly confused.

"Ariel, what are you talking about?" he asked and still held his tight grip on my leg. I sighed and went to explain it to him in simpler words, but looked at my hand and saw glass under it in tiny shards. Those should be buried in my hand, surely those would have cut me easily. I picked a piece up and rolled it between my fingers, basically asking myself to get cut…but it didn't happen. The shard just broke into dust as I rolled it. Emmett released my leg and was now holding onto my shoulders.

"Emmett…" "Yeah?" "Why isn't this cutting me?" I asked him, even though I was sure I had a pretty good idea at the moment now. "Ariel, please." "Just tell me. I need to hear it." I closed my eyes and waited, hearing his breath coming and going, even though I knew he didn't really need to breathe. "You're like me now. You've changed." I inhaled slightly, fear racing in my head at the thoughts that was bouncing around so quickly. I was changed…from human…into a vampire…

I opened my eyes and took in everything, it was so focused and in such detail that I was slightly in awe at what I was actually looking at. "Ariel?" I cocked my head to the side, aware that Emmett was still holding me, but also partly not there, it was confusing to try to explain. "So the stuff in the cup…" "Yeah." "Deer?" I asked and tried to block out the sounds around me, I was attempting to focus on nothing but Emmett. I turned in his arms and he met my eyes and I had my answer, it wasn't from any animal…it was human blood. At the thought of it again, the burn rushed back, blocking all thoughts except the taste and the fire it cooled.

"I need more, it hurts." "Emmett?" we both turned and saw Carlisle holding another cup, still talking into his cell phone. "Carlisle, it's alright, she just surprised me, she didn't go anywhere. Tell the others it's alright to come back." he began speaking into the phone as I turned to Emmett again. "They were making sure I wasn't running off to attack anyone?" I asked, even though I already knew I was right. "Yeah, but it's alright, we all went through this, it just takes some time to get the hang of it. Just stay focused on me, I'll make sure you don't hurt anyone."

I nodded and pressed my face to his chest, feeling him so close, he wasn't hard anymore, or at least, not like a boulder. He wasn't cold to me anymore either, our skin was the same temperature, our hearts weren't beating anymore, he wasn't going to have to be careful anymore. I blinked to myself and my thoughts went elsewhere, but I shook my head and breathed deeply, trying to calm myself. That was a mistake, because I smelled the blood again and everything went blurry as I felt the need come back. "Here." Carlisle seemed to read my thoughts and held the cup out, finally putting his phone down and smiled at me.

"It's alright, go ahead." Emmett said, but I didn't need to be told at all, I was already pressing it to my lips and sucking every drop as fast as I could. "You need to feed on the animals, we don't have a lot of blood here for you to continue like this." Carlisle explained and I sighed, loving the feeling of no burn in my throat. "Ariel, did you want to come with me?" Emmett asked and I looked at him, he was smiling slightly, but his eyes were still filled with worry. I didn't trust myself to speak, so I nodded and he sighed, took my hand and told me to run. I never even noticed that I let his hand go as I took off.

I hadn't expected the wind to rush so much, it seemed as if I was walking down a path instead of running full speed through the trees. I could see every stick and stone clearly, able to lunge over them and dip under fallen trees. It was such an amazing feeling and the whole time, I felt Emmett's presence right behind me, we were almost running together, but I was slightly ahead, must be because I'm a new vampire. Everything was enhanced and so beautiful it was hard to keep my eyes from roaming all over. I slammed my feet into the ground as I caught a cliff out of the edge of my eye and stopped at the very tip.

Emmett however soared past me and jumped across, laughing the entire time. He landed with a thud and turned back to face me. I stared for a moment, my mind instantly reminding me of movies with moments like that, it made me smile and he returned it before beckoning me to do the same. I backed up several feet, unsure of my new strength, unsure of myself. Finally I knew I wanted to hug Emmett again and rushed forward, trying to clear my head and not psyche myself out.

As soon as I kicked off, it was unbelievable, I was in the air in a instant and it was the most freeing feeling. Nothing was keeping me down, I wished I could stay up there forever…gravity had other ideas and I came crashing down into the dirt with a loud crack. I felt the earth give way under my shoulder as I rolled at high speed into the trees. I came to a stop against a huge boulder and gave a cough as the dirt filled my mouth. "Ariel!" I heard Emmett call and he was there a second later, his eyes sweeping over me to make sure I was alright before helping me up.

I wasn't in pain and got up with ease, brushing the dirt off. "Damn girl you still clumsy as a vampire." I shook my head, dirt flying off and hitting him, although he wasn't bothered at all. "Shut up, I didn't know when I was going to land, I was distracted." I was still surprised by the sound of my own voice, it sounded different but somewhat the same, it was a strange feeling. Emmett opened his mouth to say something, but my eyes locked onto something moving behind him, on the other side of the cliff we just jumped.

If he spoke, I didn't hear it, I focused all my senses on the movement I knew was over there. *Thump Thump* a heartbeat flowed into my ears, making my mind get fuzzy and my mouth water. I breathed deep, letting the sweat and scent of the body fill my nose. "Ariel!" Emmett was in my view, but I didn't care, he was in the way, I ducked down and swept my leg toward his, but he seemed prepared and jumped before grabbing my arms and pressing me against the rock.

"Listen to my voice, come back." he was speaking, but it was hard to do anything but feel the burning feeling in my throat and think through the fuzz of my mind. "Move, I wanna see." I said, but I could tell there was a threat to my voice, it was almost a growl. "Please, just relax." he was saying, but I couldn't wait, I wanted to be with the warm body on the other side. "Get out of my way!" I hissed at him as I ripped his arms off me and slammed him into the rock he had me against a second ago.

Before he could stop me, I launched myself into the air and landed a moment later, this time silently. I darted forward, ready for the attack…I could smell everything, it was amazing. I took a step, about to slip behind them and quickly dispose of them when I heard him speak. "Shit that hurts." I went to move, the smell of his blood filling the air. He had fallen and cut his hand on a branch. My mouth was watering and I couldn't wait a moment longer. I shifted, but he turned and saw me. "Ariel?" I met the eyes of my brother, and yet I couldn't stop myself, I needed to taste his blood, I wasn't going to be able to stop myself.
