I know what you're thinking; more Blizzard Season. Now whether you put an exclamation point or ellipsis (isn't that a fun word?) on the end of that I won't judge. However, I do know two things. One: I am posting monthly from now on. And Two: The next one will be Memories so prepare yourselves!
Peace, Love, and What Not,
-S. Nightly
No! Get away from the fire! Jack screamed inside his head. He's wrong! He's wrong! Why would you believe anything Pitch says?! He's the monster, not you!
Jack felt a rage boiling deep down inside of him. Yet the massive fires clashed with the sad rivers that flowed from his heart, and out his eyes. Outside the storm reeked havoc on the once peaceful mountainside. Inside the pole was not much better. Everything was drowned as the ice melted away to water. Yetis complained as they formed a bucket brigade to pour water down the nearest sinks. Meanwhile, others caught toys, and supplies that were floating away with the elves. Jack lay on the sopping rug in front of the fire, too weak to move. He felt sick to his stomach, and his wet clothes made him feel none the less comfortable.
Bunny was trying to tell him something. Jack could see his mouth move, but the words were lost to him. His ears were filled by the sounds of his own thoughts bickering back and forth with Pitch's words. The fighting made his head spin as it repeated like a broken record. Soon it became so terrible he was forced to close his eyes. Yet this did not make it stop.
Aren't you just the most adorable little monster?
I'm not a monster.
No? That's not what the yetis say. Oh sorry! Could say. They're a little stiff at the moment, aren't they?
Shut up! Go away! No one wants you here!
Oh really? Where did you pick that one up? Cotton Tail? No wait. He just said no one can trust you. But let's not jump to conclusions. Let's look at the evidence.
Be quiet... Jack snarled.
You froze the North Pole.
Stop...
You made yeti pops.
I said stop... He bellowed louder.
Oh, and your 'friends' are trying to melt you! Pitch chimed gleefully.
Jack felt his shouts lock in his throat, choking him. His lip trembled as he sucked in a shallow breath, and let out a feeble whimper.
What?
Come now Jack. Surely, you didn't think they were all amazing hide and seek players? Pitch scoffed with a smile. They do this a lot, you know. Take on things over their heads. It's how the Guardians get their kicks. They let things bubble until they boil over. Then they wipe up the mess, and toss out what's left of the water.
They wouldn't do that to me. They care about me!
Really? Could have fooled me... By the way, is it getting hot in here to you?
Jack didn't understand. The Guardians would never try to melt him. They knew how much pain heat caused him, even on normal days. That's why they always kept the fire low during meetings. That was the reason the yetis always left the windows open in his room. But where were the yetis? Where were his Guardians?... Where did the fire go?
Jack opened his eyes a crack to see the flame were now no more than wet ash stewing in the fireplace. Tooth held him in a partially frozen towel, rocking him softly as if he were only a babe. His vision was so blurred he could barely make out her form in the blobs of teal, and purple.
"He looks terrible."
North? Jack wondered, unable to turn his head.
"I think he's hallucinating."
Tooth?
"I can't get him to say anything to me. He just mutters to himself."
"Keep towel around him. I will think of something else."
Jack could hear the faint puffs, and jingles of Sandy's dream sand. From the sound of the quick and heavy rings the Sandman was angry.
"Sandy's right. No more of your plans. We're openin' a window, and lettin' 'em out!" Bunny growled. "He should have been out all along. He never wanted to hurt no one, the kid just needed to let off some of his steam!"
"Wait, I only wanted to calm Jack down, not melt him." North argued in his defense.
"Look how well that turned out! You saw how vulnerable he was. Whatever Pitch told him almost sent 'em over the deep end, and all because you were too busy with that stupid furnace to help 'em!"
"Furnace was not bad idea when you were running for life!" North spat.
"Both of you stop!" The Tooth Fairy screamed at the both of them.
The room became quiet. Jack forced his bleary eyes to crack again, and look up at the motherly blur that held him so gingerly.
"This was all our faults. We refused to listen to Jack. We tricked him so that we could feel safe, and because of that Pitch got to him. I don't want to hear any of you pointing fingers because we all failed him! This is our fault! ...and now we have to make it right." Tooth half sobbed, looking at all of them with tear stained eyes. "So one of us needs to think of a plan, because in five minutes I'm breaking the window open and taking Jack outside, and not even MIM could stop me."
"T-Tooth..."
The four all looked down suddenly to see Jack wriggling meekly in Tooth arms. North dropped to his knees, and helped the boy to sit up. The Russian felt the color drain from his face as he finally felt how warm Jack had become.
"Shush." Tooth cooed. "Don't worry Sweet Tooth, we're going to take you outside. You'll start to feel better then."
"No... Don't... Can't, go, out... Lose focus, and... don't want to hurt anyone."
The blue glow returned to Jack's eyes for a moment. He forced them shut, and sucked in deep breaths. He had to keep control. The spirit could feel North had dropped the temperature in the Pole, and if he became too cold his power would start to come back.
"Put me in the free-freezer..." Jack hissed painfully. "Keep the st-staff out-outside... Lock me in..."
"We're not locking ya up again Frostbite." Bunny argued. "That's how this mess started."
"Don't argue..." Jack demanded weakly. "Just, huh, Just..."
Jack's head rolled back as a wave of heat rolled over him, and he did not have the strength to keep it up. He continue to take in jagged breaths that were doing little to help him.
"Is no time." North said, scooping up the sick boy. "Until we have better plan we need to keep Jack cool."
"Uh... I've got the thickest fur." Bunny sighed. "I'll s-"
"No, I will stay with him." North interrupted. "Sandy is most creative, start tossing ideas. Tooth get yetis to help. And Bunny..."
"Yeah?"
"Plan B..." North looked around to everyone. "Is breaking window. Be ready."
