Section Six:
"So." Dean got out gruffly when the two of them walked into their room, "You wanna talk about it?"
"About what?" She took off her jacket and plopped on the bed, "The case?"
"Gia."
Her eyes snapped to those green orbs and she looked away quickly. She was ashamed really, of her past. It was like one big blip of wrong decisions. Dean needed someone that was stronger than she was really. She didn't want him to know about her past and for him to look at her differently, and that's generally what happens.
"Okay…" Sighing she leaned back on the bed, "Apparently, my parents were devout Christians before all this happened. Then my mom died and my dad decided to turn it all around. Lost his faith i guess." She shrugged, "Can't blame him."
Dean came over to sit next to her, "So… he took you guys on the road to hunt down what killed your mom? Why's that sound familiar?"
"I don't blame him. I never really have, neither did my sister. We would've done the same. And it was better than the latter."
"Which was?"
"Drinking himself into a coma." She shook her head, "He bounced from bar to bar trying to rip the memories of what happened out of his brain. Didnt work. All that it accomplished was me and my sister having ro pry his ass off the bar. And then there's him." She shook her head at Dean, referring to Ace, "It's just… a lot you know? It's like getting ripped back and forth. One minute im this otherworldly being, the next im this meek little human stuck in an… unfortunate circumstance…"
"Unfortunate circumstance?"
"Ace is the unfortunate circumstance. I seriously wish i never met him." She shook her head, "That marriage, or whatever it was i was stuck in at the time, had ended way before the day i died, Dean. I was going to leave him but i didn't get the chance."
Dean eyed her face, she was hiding something from him but he didn't know what it was. He could tell that whatever it was was big though. And he didn't know if he wanted to push it with her. Gias like him. There's no coaxing shit out of her. Shed tell him when she was ready.
Grabbing her hand he kissed her palm, "Well, i'm glad you finally can fill in the blanks."
She smiled, "Me too. It's still a little fuzzy but Cas says that's normal." Grinning she leaned in and took in his mouth in a passionate kiss earning a questioning look from him, "What? These past few days have been beyond stressful. Can't we just… enjoy us?"
Grinning he engulfed her mouth in his and let her climb on top of him.
That night, the three of them met up with Cas at the retirement home like planned, "You two go find cass, i'll check on Fred." Sam instructed then took off. As they walked to the common room all the CNA's were cleaning up cake splatter everywhere
"What in the…" Gia eyed the scene
"Oh. You got my message." Cass ran over to them, "Good." then he eyed them again with another smile, "Ah, so you guys made up then? You always have the same look after you've-"
"Cass!" Gia squeaked out interrupting him as her entire face became warm
Dean looked around the place open mouthed, ignoring his comment completely, "What the hell happened?"
Cass eyed around sadly, "There was a pastry mishap."
"A pastry mishap?" Gia repeated looking around slowly, "This… looks like more than a mishap… This is like a cake massacre."
"Well the frosting reached near-supersonic speeds. I thought-"
"Hey." Sam huffed running up to them, "Fred's gone."
"What?" Dean growled, "Oh, fan-freaking-tastic." He glared at Cass, "Way to take your eye off the ball!"
A CNA rolled an elderly lady over to them, "You're not supposed to be here."
Dean glared, "Well, trust me, sweetheart, you got bigger fish."
The woman pulled down her oxygen mask and looked to Castiel, "Charles, she's wearing my diamonds!"
The woman huffed annoyed and tried to leave but Castiel stopped her, "Wait. What? What's wrong?"
Cass grabbed her arm and lifted it so we could see the bracelet, "This is Mrs. Tate's bracelet. Where did you get it?"
A scared look crossed her face and when she looked to Dean his expression darkened, "Answer the question."
"My boyfriend gave it to me."
Once they were at the boyfriend's apartment Dean kicked in the door and the four of them fanned out around the apartment. The place was completely trashed and it was obvious he packed to leave in a hurry, "Hey. Bearer bonds." Dean held up papers from the desk, "Maybe these belonged to Sheila Tate."
"So this man is our thief." Cass added
"Yeah."
Gias eyes fell on a pair of feet laying behind a table, she readied her gun and walked over, "Uh guys? Man down over here."
Dean walked over and threw the broken table out of the way revealing an orderly who was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the stomach. Dean looked up, "Cass."
Cass leaned down but the man tried to wiggle away, "Stay still. Move your hands." When he listened Cass placed his hand on the wound and bright light appeared instantly healing his stomach
He gasped, lifting his shirt, revealing fresh blood but no wound, "How did you-"
"Guy eats his Wheaties. Sam, come on." Dean ordered and they both grabbed him, "Get up. Come on. Sit down." They slammed him down on the chair but he was still freaking out pointing to Cass
"Wait a second! What did you just do to me?!"
"Hey, hey, hey! Listen to me." Dean yelled over him, "Where is Fred Jones?"
"I- he- he took him."
"Who?!"
"Dr. Mahoney. That guy's evil, man, okay? He's using Mr. Jones."
Gias head cocked, "How?"
"Look, all Fred does is watch cartoons, but he is magic, okay? A few weeks ago I-I slammed my foot in his door. I smashed it flat and I mean flat. And then when I shook the thing, it popped back up, like something out of a cartoon or whatever."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, we know." Dean dismissed
"So I told Dr. Mahoney, and then he started doing experiments. Just - we just wanted to see what he could do."
"What about the robberies?" Sam barked
"Oh, Mahoney's been skimming off Sunset Fields for years. A lot of those folks, they got stuff stashed away, like, off the books. So Mahoney would track down the loot, and then we would take Fred for a drive."
"Right, and use his bubble of weird to rip people off." Dean finished looking to Sam, "How did you end up gut-shot?"
"Mahoney- after- after he anviled that guard, he started freaking out, and then you showed up, and then the cake blew in the day room, and then he lost it."
Sam shook his head, "What does that mean, 'he lost it'?"
"I mean he's on his way back to the bank right now for one last score. Doc's blowing town. I mean, he said that Fred was a loose end. He was gonna kill him. And then, I like Fred, so I said that if he hurt the guy, I'd go to the cops. And I didn't know that he had a gun."
"Okay." Dean nodded motioning for them to follow him out
"Do you think Mr. Jones knows what's happening?" Cass asked opening the back door
"I don't know." Dean shook his head getting in the driver's side, "Seems to me like the dude's living in a dream world."
Pulling into the alleyway next to the bank Dean led the way, "All right. Jones has got to be close.
I'll hit the bank. You three see if you can find him."
Gia stopped next to him, "Dean-"
"No, you go with them." His eyes darted to his brothers
"But-"
"It's too dangerous alright? You're still a little flashback-y, and i don't want him to get the opportunity to slam an Anvil on your head." she was about to argue more but Dean stopped her, "Sam."
"Yeah." He came over and kind of pushed Gia to follow him and Castiel, which irritated her. She has her past memories back not a freaking disease that hindered her hunting abilities.
She jerked her hand out of the younger winchester's grasp and glared at him before moving away to look for the old man, "Can you feel that? The power." Cass called from in front of them going t the back of a burgundy van, once it opened it revealed Fred sitting in his wheelchair watching cartoons on his tablet
"Fred, hey. Fred, hey, buddy." Sam climbed in first the Cass as Gia stayed outside watching, Sam moved his finger from his head, "Hey. Hey, Fred? Listen to me. Can you hear me? Fred!"
Gia climbed in to help, she put a hand on his cheek, "Fred? Buddy you need to wake up! Bad things are happening out here Fred!"
Sam scoffed, "If we could just talk to him. Hey, buddy. Hey, wake up. Wake up." Both Sam and Gia eyed Cass's hands as he covered all three of theirs, "Cass? Wait."
A bright light cascaded through their hands and Gia began to flip out a little bit, "Cass, what the hell are you doing?"
Before they could protest anymore they were thrown into some kind of cartoon-ized world. A bomb exploded nearby shaking the foundation and Gia looked crazily and pissed directly to Cass, "What the hell, man!"
Sam looked around, the same expression on his face, "Where are we?"
Cass also looked around, "Inside Mr. Jones' mind. You said you wanted to talk to him."
"Who the hell are you?" An angry looking Mr. Jones popped up out of nowhere and immediately the scene before them erupted into shattered glass, and turned into black and white static
Gia eyed around nervously, "Well… that can't be good…"
"Fred. Fred." Sam put his hands out, "Um, hey, it's - it's - it's me. I'm, uh - I'm Sam - Sam Winchester."
Fred eyed him for a moment, "John's boy?"
Sam smiled, "That's right."
"The scrawny one?" He asked confused, "It's only been three, four years since I've seen you. You-"
"More like, uh, 20." Sam corrected, "Uh, listen, Fred, I'm gonna need you to focus."
"How did you-" Fred motioned around the place with his hands before eyeing the three of them, "Why are you here, Sam?"
Once sam explained the doctor freaked out, "No, no, no, no, no, no. You're lying!"
"This is happening, Mr. Jones." Castiel reassured, "They're using you."
"As what?" He scoffed, "Some kind of a damn psychic coppertop? You plug me in, and the whole world goes wacky? It doesn't work that way."
"How would you know? No offense, but it seems to me like you've been spending more time in here than you have Out there."
"You want to know what's the worst thing that can happen to a guy who's got a mind like I got?" Fred narrowed his eyes, "Losing it."
"I need you to stop this." Sam pleaded, "Take control."
"It's too hard!"
"Look, it can be nice living in a dream world. It can be great. I know that." Sam motioned behind him before turning and eyeing Gia so she understood this speech was kind of for her too, "And you can hide, and you can pretend all the crap out there doesn't exist, but you can't do it forever because eventually, whatever it is you're running from, it'll find you. It'll come along, and it'll punch you in the gut. And then," He scoffed, "Then you got to wake up, because if you don't, then trying to keep that dream alive will destroy you! It'll destroy everything!"
The two of them stared each other down for a moment before the white light engulfed them again, popping them back into the van. GIa jumped out followed by the boys.
"Okay, let's go get Dean before your buddy figures out Toon Town's been canceled."
Running into the bank they just barely came across the guys as soon as the Doctor pointed his gun straight at Dean, "Good. Means I can use this."
"No!" Fred yelled, the Doctor swung the gun on him, "You are never going to hurt anyone again!" Fred pointed his finger at the man angrily, who began to shake as he tried to get his arm to stay straight but Fred moved it so the gun turned on him and he shot himself in the face
Gia jumped at the explosion of the gun and the explosion of his head from the gunshot wound, she wiped her face with one hand while trying to calm her breathing, "Jesus."
"That's all, folks." Dean gaped
Fred looked around at the scene disapprovingly, "My God."
Gia came over to Dean and eyed the Anvil and then the ceiling, "So you weren't kidding about the anvil, huh?" She looked him over
"Not even a little." He looked up at the ceiling before back at her, "You okay?"
"Great." She mumbled as Sam's speech continued to speak volumes in her ears, "Just something Sam said…"
"Fred?" Sam called out, "You good?"
"Now I'm good. In a month… a year," He sighed, "Nobody gets sharper with age. I'm gonna lose control again, and somebody's gonna get hurt again." He shook his head eyeing the boys, "You gotta make it stop."
Gias eyes flashed to Deans, "He doesn't mean…?" Deans answering look said all she needed to know
"There might be a way." Castiel answered pointedly, "The procedure will be painful, and... when it's over, I'm not sure how much of you will be left."
Fred pursed his lips and inhaled deeply before turning to Cass, "Well, what are you waiting for?"
