Five Souls

In the lab within Amatsuki's base, Rolo was looking at the Knightmare-Hollow hybrids and he sighed.

"These creatures that Amatsuki created," Rolo said.

"I didn't think you would be here Rolo," A voice said.

Rolo turned and saw Sancia as she was approaching him and then she stopped and stood next to him. Sancia looked over at the hybrids as well.

"You must be relieved that Lelouch won his fight against VV," Sancia said.

"I am," Rolo replied, "it seems that my brother got strong," Rolo then had a sad expression, "he got strong…even from the place that's just using him."

"Brother, huh…" Sancia sighed, "So you still refer to him as your big brother, even though it was all a lie for the sake of a mission."

"Don't start," Rolo replied.

"I just don't get it," Sancia said, "after everything that has happened you still consider him as your brother even though he doesn't feel the same way about you."

"You better stop," Rolo demanded.

"But it's true," Sancia continued, "he never really cared about you. He was just using you for his own convenience. I know you trained as an assassin since childhood and never really had a normal life but still—"

Rolo suddenly drew his dirk near Sancia's throat and that got her to stop talking.

"Don't say another word," Rolo said with a death glare.

Sancia just looked at Rolo not concerned that she had a dirk near her throat.

"Oh and what if I don't?" Sancia asked, "You're going to slit my throat if I continue?"

Rolo just glared at Sancia.

"I have to say that Lelouch is really a despicable person," Sancia commented.

"Pardon?" Rolo replied surprised.

"Surely you know that he's really a horrible person and an idiot for most of the things he's done in the past," Sancia shook her head, "honestly, there's not really anything good about him. He's not worth for you to be concern with."

Rolo's face was contorted in rage, "Don't badmouth Lelouch!"

"But it's true, so many foolish things he's done in the past and in the end, he failed to protect anyone…not even that Shirley girl who you killed out of jealously nor could he protect his sister Nunnally...not to mentioned he killed his other sister Euphemia and used her to cover up his mistake," Sancia frowned, "Lelouch Lamperouge or vi Britannia or what he goes by. What a worthless person he is."

"That's enough!" Rolo demanded.

Rolo was about to strike but Sancia quickly dodged and grabbed Rolo's arm and disarmed him of his dirk and Rolo was about to counter.

"Cease this foolishness at once!" Amatsuki said.

They stopped and looked over seeing Amatsuki walking over.

"Stand down, both of you," Amatsuki ordered.

Rolo and Sancia did as they were ordered and Amatsuki shook his head.

"Such stupidity," Amatsuki said, "fighting over trivial matters."

"Trivial?" Rolo said surprised.

"Anyway, how dare you start your bickering within my lab. Inexcusable…"

Sancia looked away and Rolo got upset and then turned to glare at Sancia swearing that he was going to make her pay for the remarks she said about Lelouch and then took off and left.

"Sancia, it's time for you carry the mission I have for you," Amatsuki said.

"Understood, you want me to find Suzunami and his group," Sancia said.

"Exactly," Amatsuki said.

Soul Society

In the first district of West Rukongai known as Junrinan, a tall young man was on a hill looking at the scenery and he wore a gray sleeveless robe with black stripes, black sash, and straw sandals and it was Gino Weinberg and he was enjoying the view.

"It really is a nice view," Gino commented, "it's nice and peaceful…better than where I was living before."

Gino sighed and recalled what happened to him recently, from when he was captured and imprisoned by Suzaku to being compelled by the power of Schneizel's Geass to being defeated in battle at the hands of Bismarck and know he was dying from the wounds he suffered. Gino then recalled seeing a young woman with brown hair.

"I never did find out who she was," Gino said.

"So this is where you are," A voice said.

Gino turned and saw that it was Anya Alstreim who wore a turquoise robe with a yellow sash and wore straw sandals.

"Hi Anya," Gino greeted.

"What are you doing here?" Anya asked.

Gino turned and continued to look at the scenery.

"Just looking at the view," Gino said.

"I see…"

Anya walked over and stood next to Gino.

"It's only been a month since we've been here," Gino commented, "who knew that you and I would be here in this place."

"We died…" Anya said sadly.

"Yeah, we did," Gino agreed sadly.

In the third district of West Rukongai known as Hokutan, Kyoshiro Todoh who was wearing a brown sleeveless robe with a black sash and straw sandals was walking down a path. He saw a small house and there was Nagisa Chiba who wore a light brown sleeveless robe with a red sash and straw sandals and was sitting on the porch. Chiba saw Todoh and stood up.

"Welcome back General," Chiba greeted.

"I'm back," Todoh said, "but Nagisa, I told you, don't refer to me as General. I haven't been General since the Black Knights fell apart and besides, this place…the Soul Society, the title I had holds no meaning here."

"Oh right," Chiba replied, "I'm sorry," Chiba blushed, "Kyoshiro."

Todoh smiled and nodded, "That's better."

"So…Kyoshiro, were you able to find anything out?"

Meanwhile within the Seireitei, a funeral service was being held for Tetsuaki Kusanagi and all the Captains and Lieutenants and other officers of the Gotei 13 were attending the service as they said their silent farewells to the man who was Captain of the 10th Division. Yamamoto thought of the time when he first met Kusanagi and that was back in the Shin'o Academy when he was still an instructor and Kusanagi was one of his students. Kyoraku and Ukitake looked on with sad expression losing their junior and Kyoraku tip his straw hat covering his eyes.

Flashback: 50 years ago

In the hall within the Captain Assembly Hall, Kyoraku and Ukitake smiled as they were talking to Kusanagi who hair was short and didn't have any scars at the time.

"Congratulations," Kyoraku said, "you're now a Captain."

"Thank you," Kusanagi said feeling grateful.

"Feel free to come to us if you have any questions or just need some advice," Ukitake said happily.

"Thank you," Kusanagi said with a smile, "I'm looking forward in standing side with you my seniors."

Flashback End

"It's unfortunate that these things happen," Kyoraku said in his head.

The service continued and then it ended with Kusanagi's body cremated in the funeral pyre and the members of the Gotei 13 were paying their final respects for Tetsuaki Kusanagi. Lelouch looked on seeing the man's body cremated with sadness. Euphie glanced over to her brother and felt sad as well and recalled when she and Lelouch first met him back when they were living in Raku'uta with Rie. Shirley stood next to her surrogate grandfather as they watched Kusanagi's body being cremated. Nagata was depressed seeing that his captain was gone and a hand was placed on his shoulder. Nagata looked and it was Naoto who placed his hand on his shoulder and then Yoshida and Inoue tapped Nagata's shoulder as well and he looked at them. It was truly a depressing time. Naoto looked over and saw Lelouch who his head down and he noticed that Lelouch was shaking and clenching his fists. Naoto closed his eyes and hoped to talk to Lelouch afterwards. The funeral services had ended and all the officers of the Gotei 13 were leaving to do whatever they had to do. Euphie hoped to talk to Lelouch but she saw that her brother was nowhere to be seen already and she looked around with worry. Naoto and Shirley walked by and stood next her and they both knew what was going on. Euphie, Naoto, and Shirley walked and they were joined by Senba, Asahina, Urabe, Yoshida, Nagata, and Inoue.

Later on, Lelouch was taking a walk through a corridor of a large building. He stopped and looked at the scenery of the Seireitei and looked over at the area where he fought VV and closed his eyes thinking about the Hollow attack that had occurred and when he fought VV and when he first saw Arturo Plateado. Lelouch then opened his eyes.

"In the end, I had failed," Lelouch said, "VV still lives and that means that I failed to avenge Rie and my mother for their deaths…I still have a long way to go."

Lelouch continued his walk through the corridor.

One week later

It was dawn and within the barracks of the 2nd Division, Lelouch opened his eyes and looked out of the window in his room and then he got up from his futon. In the corridor of the barracks, Naoto opened the door and came out of his own room. He yawned and stretched out his arms. He looked over and saw Lelouch walking by at the other side.

"Up and early," Naoto commented quietly.

Meanwhile in the 11th Division, a man who was bald and bushy black eyebrows with brown eyes who wore a haori over his Shihakusho and it was the Captain of the 11th Division, Kenpachi Umemiya formerly known as Toma Umemiya sat in his desk and he frowned.

"I've lost more than half of the people in my division," Umemiya said and then he slammed his desk, "killed by that damn Arrancar Luciano Bradley…and Yuma Fujimori, my lieutenant was killed by the hands of that damn Arturo Plateado."

Umemiya was silent and then he stood up from his desk and looked out of the window.

"It has brought great shame to me and I need to rebuild my division," Umemiya said, "I need a new lieutenant…and I know exactly who qualifies to be my lieutenant."

3rd Division Barracks

Seiji was sitting in a room and was meeting with Shirley, Urabe, Asahina, and Senba.

"So what did you want to talk to us about?" Shirley asked.

"I need to tell you about the things are going to happen in the future," Seiji responded.

"In the future?" Urabe asked confused.

Asahina, Senba, and Shirley were confused as well.

"Sir, what do you mean?" Asahina asked.

"My fight against the Arrancar Arturo Plateado has cost me," Seiji said.

"Cost you?" Shirley asked and then was concerned, "What do you mean?"

Seiji frowned and looked down.

Elsewhere within the Seireitei

Chikane walking and then she spotted someone and it was a Shinigami that had long wavy blonde hair and violet eyes and wore a frilled collared shirt under his robe and it was Rojuro Otoribashi who was mostly called Rose.

"Hello Rojuro," Chikane greeted.

Rose turned and saw Chikane.

"Oh, hello Lieutenant Iba," Rose greeted back.

"I'm glad I found," Chikane said.

"Oh, did you need something from me?" Rose replied.

"Yes, I need to talk to you about something."

"What is it?"

"Well," Chikane crossed her arms, "it's regarding the 3rd Division."

"The 3rd Division?" Rose replied arching an eyebrow.

Kuchiki Manor

Sojun arrived in the family manor and he was greeted by servants of the manor and they were welcoming him back. Sojun replied back with greeting as asked where someone was. He was directed and went to in the manor. He walked in the hallway and got to a door. He opened and saw a boy with black hair and gray eyes and was looking at a chessboard with chess pieces. It was Sojun's son, Byakuya.

"Byakuya," Sojun said.

Byakuya looked over and saw his father and smiled as he stood up and went to him.

"Father, what a pleasant surprise," Byakuya said happily, "will you spending time here instead of the barracks."

"That's right," Sojun replied.

"That's great…what about Grandfather?"

"He'll be here soon. He just has to take some things in the barracks."

"I'm glad," Byakuya said, "the three of us can have our talks."

"Yes, it has been a while," Sojun said and then he looked over at the chessboard, "so Byakuya, I noticed you were looking at the chessboard."

"Oh, yes Father," Byakuya said looking at the chessboard, "I remember you were always playing a game of chess with that guy that was in your division before he was transferred."

"Ah yes…I wasn't able to beat him," Sojun looked at Byakuya, "would you like to learn how to play?"

"Father…would it be possible for me to learn?"

"Yes, and I'm sure if I ask him, he'll be willing to teach you. I'm sure your grandfather wouldn't mind either."

"Are you referring to him?" Byakuya asked.

Sojun nodded, "Yes, I'm sure he would do it."

A Field Somewhere

Lelouch was walked and had just arrived at the entrance of a cavern.

"Okay, I believe this is a good spot," Lelouch said.

Lelouch entered the cavern walked to go to the deepest area within the cavern.

Flashback

They looked on as the Negacion was picking up Arturo and his followers up in the air and Kumon was opening and Gillians appeared as they were being picked up. Lelouch caught up and saw what was happening and then Euphie, Naoto, Xingke, Shirley, and Clovis arrived and saw what was happening as well.

"This is indeed unfortunate," Arturo said, "you win this time Genryusai Yamamoto. Relish the little victory you have," Arturo pointed at Genryusai, "because the next time we meet, I will be stronger and then, you won't be able to get me with your tricks. I will kill you next time."

VV looked and glared at Lelouch and Lelouch glared back.

"Lelouch, enjoy the time of living you have now," VV said, "but know this, when we meet again, you won't be so lucky."

Flashback End

"I have to be prepared because no doubt we'll see them again," Lelouch said, "and this time, they won't be able to get away," Lelouch had a dark expression, "I can't let them. Not only do I need to avenge my mother and Rie…I need to avenge Captain Kusanagi as well."

Lelouch thought about Kusanagi and when he was with him in his final moments. Lelouch then drew his Zanpakuto.

"The way I am now is not enough," Lelouch said, "I need to get better and keep pushing myself," Lelouch closed his eyes, "yes…no rest for the wicked," Lelouch got in his stance and took a deep breath, "I was able to achieve it 13 years ago and I need to keep training with it if I'm to fully master it because one mistake and it can cost me my life," Lelouch opened his eyes, "let's get started Teimashu."

From the entrance of the cavern, a light shined from the entrance of the cavern.

District 9, North Rukongai

Kallen sat in her small hut and she sighed sadly.

"I've had no luck," Kallen said, "They could be anywhere. I'm…alone."

Kallen had thought about what she learned years ago on the day Lelouch was killed.

Flashback: 2018 atb, Sword of Akasha, C's World

"That's right," Charles stated, "I sent Lelouch and Nunnally to Japan to hide them from my brother's sight which is also why I secretly had Marianne's body taken away."

"As long as my body was still intact, there would be a chance that I could return to it," Marianne added.

"So that's what's been really going on?" Kallen asked.

"Exactly," Charles answered, "Anya and Nunnally became witnesses; therefore it was necessary to rewrite both their memories to protect everything."

Kallen was shocked, "Wait a minute, so that means that Nunnally's blindness was actually the result of your Geass and not from the psychological trauma of the assassination?"

"Even though Nunnally was a false witness, there presented a real chance that she would be killed," Marianne answered.

"In order to prevent that, truth needed to be made that was far from proof," Charles added.

"The original plan called for only one immortal code; however as our research progressed, we concluded that we needed to have an additional code. In other words, without CC, there would only be a fifty percent chance of the plan succeeding."

"When Marianne was unable to convince CC, we were left with only one option," Charles explained, "we had to use Lelouch."

"Use Lelouch?" Kallen asked in shock, "So what was the point of all this?"

CC looked at Kallen, "Kallen…"

"These tragedies will no longer be needed once the Ragnarok Connection succeeds," Charles said.

"Masks will vanish," Marianne added with joy, "and everyone will be who they're supposed to be."

Flashback End

"If I'm lucky to find Lelouch here, what would he say, how would he react if I told him the truth…especially about his mother," Kallen shook her head, "would he believe me? What would he say if I told him what has happened since he died," Kallen shook her head again, "I wasn't able to avenge him but…this time, if I see him, I won't let him trick me again like he did back in the Ikaruga. I just hope that I could find some way to find him. I would like to see him again."

Kallen thought about Lelouch from the time he met him to when he was at his low point when it was assumed that Nunnally died in the FLEIA blast. Kallen then stood and stepped out of her small hut.

"I need to do something about food," Kallen said, "and maybe some firewood as well."

Kallen left her small hut and set to do what she felt the need to do.

The next day, District 3 of West Rukongai, Hokutan

Todoh and Chiba were walking and they were seeing a small group of people gathering.

"There are some people there," Chiba said.

"Indeed, I wonder what's going on over there," Todoh said.

Todoh and Chiba went where there was the small gathering of people and when they got there, they looked around.

"Curious," Todoh said.

Chiba went to speak with a young man with short black hair and who wore a brown robe.

"Pardon, what's going on here?" Chiba asked.

"Oh, well there are three Shinigami that are here."

"Shinigami?" Todoh asked.

"Yeah, apparently there was a serious Hollow attack in the capitol and a Shinigami that was originally from here lost his life. The three came to give their condolence the person's surrogate family."

"I see," Chiba said.

"Sounds unfortunate," Todoh said.

"Yeah it is," The young man said, "I actually met the guy once…he was a nice guy."

The sound of a door was opening and they looked and saw three people coming out of the house.

"Oh, there they are," The young man said.

Todoh and Chiba saw the three Shinigami and were surprised when they recognized them.

"Kyoshiro, is that…?" Chiba asked surprised.

"It can't be…" Todoh said surprised as well.

The three Shinigami that came out was Senba, Urabe, and Asahina. They bowed to a woman who had a sad expression but thanked them. They then went on their way and Urabe saw Todoh and Chiba and were surprised. Senba and Asahina noticed Urabe's surprised expression.

"Hey Kosetsu, what's wrong?" Asahina asked.

"I don't believe this," Urabe said.

"What is it?" Senba asked.

They looked to see what Urabe was looking at and they were surprised to see Todoh and Chiba as well.

"Is that…?" Asahina asked surprised.

"Chiba…General Todoh," Senba said.

"It's really you," Todoh said, "Urabe…Senba…Asahina…"

"I can't believe this," Chiba said, "to think we would see you three here."

"Wow," Urabe said amazed, "what a turn of events."

First District of West Rukongai, Junrinan

The residents were talking about a Shinigami that was in one of the shops. Gino and Anya walked by and they were curious.

"I heard that a Shinigami is here," Anya said.

"A Shinigami?" Gino replied, "Don't those people reside in that nice place called the Seireitei along with the nobles there."

"Yes, so if we want to live there as well, our only chance would be to become Shinigami ourselves."

"Hmm…" Gino crossed his arms, "should we though…"

"I don't know."

Someone was coming out of the store and was thanking the shopkeeper there for the help and Gino and Anya were surprised to see who it was as it was Shirley that was coming out of the shop.

"Shirley?" Gino spoke, "Shirley, is that you?"

Shirley was surprised to hear her name and then she looked and was surprised to see Gino and Anya.

"Gino…Anya," Shirley said shocked.

"Shirley, it really is you," Anya said surprised as well.

Unknown Realm

Kajiro was looking and he was surprised in what he was seeing.

"I don't believe this," Kajiro said shocked, "Kyoshiro and Nagisa as well," Kajiro changed the vision and saw Gino and Anya, "what's going on? How were they able to get in the Soul Society? C's World was distorted from Charles and Marianne's Ragnarok Connection…they shouldn't be able to enter the Soul Society," Kajiro narrowed his eyes, "unless…"
