-Chapter Thirty-Six-
"Hey, carry me too, Zoro" Luffy joined in.
"Morons!" Zoro growled.
"Looks like you attracted them like light attracts a moth" I laughed.
"Oh yeah? Well it seems I see another moron that I've attracted" Zoro smirked as I narrowed my eyes.
"Well at least this moron knows her north from her south" I stuck my tongue out before snickering as his face became flush.
"Shut up!" he snapped, turning away from me to grumbling lowly to himself. I could feel my heart swelling up in my chest as I laughed, good memories flooding my mind. Subconsciously I found myself tightening my grip on his head as we continued to walk.
-Later-
"Look up a head, I see light" Vivi pointed as night fell.
"Does that mean we made it to Yuba? I can't see anything with all this sand blowing everywhere" Luffy said, squinting his eyes.
"Finally, hopefully now we can rest" I stretched while casting a glance over towards Zoro, only to pout as I watched him carry Usopp. "Can't believe you gave into carrying him and not me."
"Because he wouldn't stop annoying me, this was the only way to get him to quit" the swordsman grumbled. "Jealous?"
"Pft! You wish" I snorted, smiling a little when he grabbed my hand.
"Something doesn't feel right here" Vivi frowned. "There's something wrong down there, I can tell. Oh no! The entire city is being struck by a sandstorm!" she gasped as the wind picked up and we all watched as the sandstorm raged on for a while before finally calming down enough to let us enter. "It can't be."
"It doesn't look good; this place doesn't look much different from that Erumalu town from before" Zoro commented.
"Hm? Where?" Luffy asked as his tongue lulled out of his mouth.
"Vivi, I thought you said this city was supposed to be some sort of oasis" Sanji said.
"It looks like the oasis has disappeared, it's been swallowed up by all the sand" the princess sadly responded. "Huh?" her head perked up as she caught sight of a thin, old man digging away at the sand.
"I'm assuming you are travelers, you must be exhausted from all the time spent in that heat, huh? Sorry, but this town is a bit dried up too, it doesn't have much relief to offer. But still, you're free to rest here awhile" the old man said the minute he spotted us. He was very scrawny, almost as if he hadn't had a decent meal in a long time. "We may not have much water, but there are plenty of inns in town. It is what we've prided ourselves so much on, after all."
"Thank you, but we came here because we thought the Rebel Army was in this town" Vivi replied as she tried her best to keep her face hidden. The old man stopped what he was doing and turned to us with a venomous glare.
"What business do you have with the Rebel Army? Curse all of you, if you're here to join the Rebel Army, then you can just go back from where you came from!" he snapped, throwing items at us, eventually succeeding in striking Luffy in the head. "If you're looking for those fools, look elsewhere, they're no longer in this town."
"Wait! They're not!" Luffy screamed, becoming frustrated along with everyone else.
"Hey! Loosen your grip, that hurts!" I hissed when I noticed that the grip Zoro had on my hand had tightened. It felt like he was about to break the bones in my hand.
"Sorry" he mumbled, loosening his grip some.
"They left?" Vivi questioned.
"I'm sure you've noticed the town was hit by a sandstorm, but that certainly wasn't the first. After three years of no rain, the land has become increasingly dry, sandstorms became a regular occurrence here. Little by little the oasis that we knew was swallowed up, until the town became what you see now, a dying wasteland" the old man explained, going back to his digging. "When the full of supplies for the town ended, the Rebel Army couldn't maintain their drone out struggles. So, they packed up, they've moved on, the Rebel base is now located in Katorea."
"Um, where's that? Is Katorea close to here, Vivi?" Luffy asked as the princess' expression changed to one of realization and horror.
"It's near Nanohana, back the way we came from" Vivi answered.
"Katorea? That's where I got separated from Sanji and met Eyelash" Chopper piped up. "That's right, when you helped me. Wait a second, Eyelash is saying that he was carrying Rebel Army goods to Katorea" he explained, upon hearing this Sanji, Usopp, and Luffy became violent with the camel. "Whatever" the reindeer translated for the camel when the boys had stopped for a second before going straight back to beating on the animal.
"Quick to resort to violence, I see" I commented.
"Well great, coming all this way was just a waste of time" Zoro sighed.
"Vivi, wait, your name's…" the old man trailed off as he took small steps towards the princess.
"Wait, hold on, she's defiantly not a princess!" Luffy exclaimed before being struck on top of the head by the swordsman.
"Nice one, Luffy!"
"Real smooth" I sweat dropped.
"Princess Vivi, is that really you? You're alive, I can't believe it, thank goodness. It's me, Vivi, don't you recognize me? I look different, I lost some weight I suppose" the man said as he grabbed a hold of the princess' shoulders.
"Uh, Toto, is that really you?" Vivi asked, covering her mouth in shock.
"That's right" the old man nodded as chocked sobs left the princess' mouth.
"Toto, that's this guy?" Luffy questioned.
"Whatever it's worth, Vivi, dear. I have faith in you and the king, he's a good man, a true king that would never betray his country. I know it" Toto said, hugging the princess as tears started to leak from his eyes. The two hugged one another close, sobbing before sitting down to discuss somethings. "True, our country hasn't seen a drop of rain in three years, but I still put my trust in the king as I always have. Most of the country still has faith in him, actually" he said.
"So many times, I've tried to stop them, so many times. But, they won't listen to anything I say, the rebellion isn't stopping. Their strength, supplies, and men have reached their limit however, their intention is to settle things once and for all with the next attack" he explained. "Their backs are against the wall, they're stuck in a corner, prepared for death. Please Vivi, you have to stop these fools from tearing our country apart."
"Toto, old friend, please don't be worried" Vivi reassured as she handed the man a rag so he could wipe away his tears.
"Vivi, dear" he whispered.
"We'll succeed, we're going to stop this."
"Thank you, Vivi!" Toto cried out.
-Later-
"Well, great job today, everybody. Really, we did some good work, now let's all lie down on these comfy beds and get some well deserve rest. Okay" Usopp said. "We'll need our strength, good night you guys" he hopped into one of the beds and started to fall asleep.
"Please, this whole trip you've been nothing but lazy" Zoro commented as he threw a pillow at the long-nosed pirate.
"Why you, quit comparing me to you and all the other super human freaks!" Usopp snapped, throwing the pillow back.
"Ooo, you're a dead man" I chirped out, laughing at the angry expression on the swordsman's face.
"Now you're annoying me" Zoro glared.
"I think blue nose here wins today's award for the laziest talking animal in the desert" Usopp grumbled as he threw a pillow at Chopper.
"You try walking around in a fur coat!" Chopper snapped, getting right in the long-nosed pirate's face.
"Sanji, I think that's my bed" Vivi pointed out when she noticed that the blond was lying underneath the covers of her bed.
"Eh? Could he be any less subtle with his perverted actions?" I mumbled as a sweat drop appeared on my head.
"I know, I thought you might have trouble sleeping here all alone tonight, Vivi" the blond responded to the princess before a pillow hit his face. I burst out laughing from my spot on my bed.
"And the award for biggest perv goes to Sanji" Usopp mumbled as Chopper snickered.
