Ch 38
As the months passed Maggie's belly continued to grow and within six months she was waddling around.
"Don't you laugh." Maggie huffed as she let out a sigh after climbing the stairs.
"You just look so cute!" Lizzie smirked.
"Any day now….I'm hoping the dwarves from the Blue Mountains arrive. Oin is starting to drive me crazy and I'm not about to let him deliver this baby." Maggie said as a raven reported that the dwarves should be arriving the next day.
"This will be wonderful surprise. I bet Kili will feel better seeing his mother." Maggie nodded and the two women made their way to the kitchen. Bombur was working on lunch as Maggie started looking for cookies.
"Where are they? Bombur, you didn't eat them all did you?" Maggie asked a bit frantic when she couldn't find the chocolate chip cookies she had baked the day before. Bombur looked guilty. Maggie let out a sigh.
"I really need to teach you how to make those." Maggie said waving her hand as another batch appeared on the table. Bombur's face lit up and Maggie smacked his hand away as she grabbed the plate.
"These are coming with us. Lizzie, grab some milk."
As the raven had stated a large group from the Blue Mountains arrived the next day. Kili and Fili were reunited with their mother and Gloin was reunited with his wife and son. Bombur's wife was in attendance as was Nori, Ori, and Dori's mother. Maggie stood back watching Fili and Kili be hugged by their mother.
"I want to meet her." Dis said as Fili led her over to Maggie. Dis pulled her into a hug.
"Thank you, thank you for keeping my boys safe and look at you! You are beautiful and my first grandchild will be born soon. We will have so much to talk about." Dis said kissing her cheek.
"I am so happy to have you here. Oin is starting to drive me crazy and Fili will not let me do anything without supervision." Dis frowned at her son.
"Don't worry you will be in good hands. Asabelle and I will see to you. Mar is a bit old but she can help as well." Gloin walked over with his wife on his arm.
"Maggie, I would like to introduce my wife Asabelle and my son, Gimli." Asabelle smiled and Gimli stood back.
"I hear you held your own with this bunch. Bless you, and your already with child. You and Fili have been blessed. This is a sign that Erebor will prosper. Right Dis?" Dis smiled.
"Asabelle, Maggie will need our help or Oin will be delivering-"
"Oh no he will not. Oin dropped my little one on his head. Oin will not be delivering that baby." Asabelle said as the healer frowned and moved away. "You let this girl be. She's young and healthy. Dis and I will see to her." Oin mumbled under his breath as Maggie motioned for Liz.
"This is my sister, Elizabeth but everyone calls her Liz." Liz stepped over shyly.
"Look at you two. So different just like my boys." Dis said with a smile.
"Come, let's get settled." Gloin said leading his wife and son away. Next Dori brought over Mar. She was not as welcoming as Asabelle and Dis but she greeted Maggie and then waited for her youngest son to escort her to her room.
"Come, let's talk." Dis said as Maggie and Liz followed her. "I think your having a girl. If that's the case you'll be everyone's favorite since girls are so rare. Everyone will really see it as a blessing."
"Back home our family usually had more girls."
"Oh…this is so exciting. A little princess." Dis said.
"Would you like to see the nursery?" Dis's face lit up.
"It's ready?"
"Of course, Bofur and Bombur have made shelves of toys. This was a good way to get Kili out an about. He's hasn't been doing well but at the mention of his niece or nephew he perks up a bit." Maggie said as Dis nodded.
"My poor boy, tell me about her." Maggie told Dis all about Tauriel and Dis smiled.
"She sounds lovely. Maybe someday Kili will find someone else he can care for." She said giving Liz a wink.
"Oh…Liz will be spoken for any day. Bard, the Lord of Dale, has had his eye on her since he rescued her in Laketown."
"Oh stop." Liz said her cheeks burning red.
"This sounds interesting." Maggie, Dis, and Liz continued to gossip and chat while looking around the nursery.
"This is just so lovely." Dis looked up to see Kona standing quietly in the doorway.
"Dis, this is Kona. She is staying in Erebor for awhile." Dis frowned and looked at Maggie.
"I accepted Maggie as Fili's wife." She said softly looking at her feet.
"She has been a good friend and it's nice to have another lady around." Maggie said as Dis nodded.
"Well… I wasn't too happy that my brother was forcing my son to marry out of duty and not love but things worked out." Kili coughed from the doorway.
"Mother, you should rest before the welcome feast tonight as should Maggie." Both women frowned.
"We are both fine. How about we go sit in the sitting area?" Dis suggested. Kili offered an arm to his mother and Maggie. Liz and Kona walked behind them.
"When will the official coronation be held?" Dis asked as they sat down.
"Since your arrival was a surprise-"
"Kili, you tell your brother that he best do this before the little prince or princess is born. I know that Gandalf crowned him king but Maggie needs to be crowned as well. We should also have a wedding celebration for you two." Maggie went to open her mouth but Liz started talking.
"We should also have a bachelorette party now since there are more girls."
"Oh, Lizzie, I don't think so." Maggie said with a sigh.
"Bachelorette party?" Dis asked confused.
"Back where we are from before you get married both the bride and groom get to celebrate with their friends their last night of being single."
"Some people would use that as an excuse to be foolish. Lizzie, we can have a bachelorette party for you before you and Bard get married. I'm not in any condition to deal with your craziness."
"I want to hear more about this." Liz started to go into detail as Maggie rolled her eyes.
"I'm going to go get something to snack on." Kona jumped up.
"Let me, what do you want?"
"I can go."
"No, rest. I will go." Kili said feeling uncomfortable about where the current conversation was going. "I'll bring the cookies and brownies you like." He said before disappearing out of the room.
"Yes, I think we should have one of these parties. Asabelle can come and Mar can join us."
"Well… we could invite Sigrid even though Tilda is still a bit too young." Liz said as Maggie looked at Kona.
"No, invite Tilda and we can have an old fashioned slumber party." Maggie said as Liz went to open her mouth she gave her a stare.
"Oh, slumber party is good as well." She said as Dis nodded.
"We can set up in here and Fili can go spend the night somewhere else." Liz said as Kili returned with a tray of sweets and milk.
"Thank you, Kili." Maggie said grabbing a brownie.
"What are these?" Dis asked looking at the brownies.
"They are desserts. Those are chocolate chip cookies and the others are brownies. I taught Bombur how to bake them. The brownies may be a bit sweet for you but they are so good." Maggie said as Kili pulled up a chair joining the group.
"Kili, we are going to have a…what was the name of it?"
"A slumber party." Liz said as Kili nodded.
"How about tomorrow night?" Dis asked as everyone nodded. "We are going to have it here, just us ladies so Fili will be staying with you or in another room."
"What is a slumber party?"
"It's when people wear their pajamas and stay in someone else's rooms, mostly girls have them and they chat and act silly." Liz said as Maggie stood up and made her way over the bookshelf and grabbed her photo album. She flipped through the pages and handed it to Kili.
"That was from a slumber party when we were younger." Dis stood to get a look at the picture.
"Look at how cute you two were. I am going to have such a lovely grand baby!" Dis took the book from Kili and flipped through. She stood next to Maggie who pointed out who everyone was.
It was near dinnertime when Dis was escorted to her room by Kili to change for dinner. Maggie had made sure there was dresses in the room for her new mother-in-law. Maggie, Liz, and Kona made their way to the dining hall after sending a message to Sigrid and Tilda inviting them to spend the night for the slumber party the next day. Asabelle was already in the dining hall so Maggie invited her and she seemed happy with having a night with just the girls. At dinner Dis started naming off ideas for the coronation and Fili went along with what his mother suggested. Balin added in a few ideas and by the end of dinner they were creating a guest list and Maggie was using her powers to send out invitations to the guests.
"I wish Bilbo had stayed." Maggie said a bit sad.
"Maybe he will come and visit us." Fili said as she frowned.
"But the Shire is so far and remember that I said, he will be caring for his nephew. I think the only way we'll every see Bilbo again is if we visit him and that won't be anytime soon. It will still be some time before he returns home. Gandalf mentioned that they would spend the winter with Beorn."
"Well….if the coronation is soon maybe they can all just travel back. We are on good terms with Thranduil now, since you scared him." Balin offered. Maggie sent out the invitation to Beorn, Gandalf, and Bilbo hoping that the three of them would attend.
