Chapter 38

Annabeth

Annabeth woke up to the sun shining in through the windows, but yet again, the spot next to her was empty from Percy's absence.

She sat up and rubbed her eyes, feeling tired even though she had just slept. She had begun to feel like she was tired all of the time now-a-days…

Percy suddenly came out from the bathroom with a pair of basketball shorts on. He was wiping his hair with a towel, making it stick up in random places and causing Annabeth to laugh. He grinned when he saw her, looking very refreshed from their chat the previous night. His eyes had a new glow in them, and he was smiling more profusely now.

"Hurry up, Wise Girl. You need to see what's going on outside." Percy grinned and tossed his towel to the side before slipping on a shirt. Annabeth raised an eyebrow at him, and swung her legs over the side of the bed.

"What do you mean?" she asked.

Percy pointed out the window, and Annabeth peered out, taken aback by the crowds of campers swarming the dining pavilion. Each of them had a little gift in their hands. Annabeth frowned and changed rather quickly before pulling Percy out of the cabin with her.

She stormed down to the dining pavilion, and frowned when she noticed that music was playing. It was light happy music, with no words, but only the light playing of instruments that made it seem like a soothing playlist just for her. The music was exactly what she wanted to hear, and call her old-fashioned, but she preferred instrumentals way over rap or hip-hop.

She spotted Jason and Piper, each holding a small box in their hands. The box was white, with a golden bow wrapped around it, and they were looking at each other in confusion.

"What's going on?" Annabeth asked while looking around. People were opening their presents, and some were gasping with surprise, others were cheering with happiness. Jason shrugged while examining his present.

"This morning these were all left under our bunks.,." he said, "it's like Christmas or something."

Annabeth knew it wasn't Christmas… it was in the middle of the summer, but low and behold, here were the majority of the campers, each with presents in their hands. Percy came stumbling over to them, with his own box in his hand and a grin on his face.

"I love this song!" he said suddenly and looked at the music speakers. Annabeth frowned. She was pretty sure that Percy didn't exactly appreciate good instrumentals, but maybe he did. She wasn't sure.

"Dude, I know right. Wiz Khalifa is so good," Jason said, and Percy frowned at him.

"What are you talking about? This is Fall Out Boy."

"No…it's Wiz Khalifa…"

"No it's not, bro, it's literally Fall Out Boy."

"You're both wrong, it's Imagine Dragons," Piper said while staring at the two boys. They all frowned and looked to Annabeth for answers, but for once, she didn't have one.

"It's charmed," someone said, answering the answer that they were waiting to hear. Skye appeared from the crowd with a smile on her face and a glow in her eyes. "It allows you to hear your favorite songs."

"THAT'S WHAT MAKES YOU BEAUTIFUL," Leo suddenly sang, rushing through the crowd belting One Direction at the top of his lungs, earning various chuckles and laughs out of other campers. The group laughed at Leo's antics, now exposing to everyone that Leo's favorite music was in fact, One Direction.

"Oh my gods," Piper suddenly said, "happy birthday!" She leaned forward and gave Skye a hug. Annabeth stared at her cousin.

"It's your birthday?" she asked.

Skye nodded and shrugged. "Guilty."

"Oh my gods, you should have told me!"

"Sorry," Skye chuckled wearily as Annabeth gave her a hug as well. Jason and Percy followed suit and Annabeth pretended to ignore the way Skye's cheeks flushed when Percy hugged her.

"You don't have anything to do with these presents do you?" Jason asked, holding up the white box with the golden bow in his hand. Skye shrugged once more with a smile on her face.

"Guilty, again," she said.

"What-"

They were cut off when Connor Stoll came racing over and wrapped his arms around Skye's waist before lifting her into the air.

"Happy birthday, Sunshine," he said and leaned forward to kiss her. They were instantly cut off by, not only the complaining of the surrounding demigods, but by Fletcher who came storming through and pulled Connor off of his sister.

"Leave that for the private room, okay?" Fletcher said, and had apparently tried to appear menacing, but in reality he looked like a pouting puppy who was trying to protect his other siblings who were just as clumsy as he was.

"Happy birthday, Fletcher," everyone said, and Skye gave her brother a hug, followed by Annabeth, then Percy, Jason, and Piper.

"Dad helped me with this," Skye said, gesturing to the buffet of wonderful food, charmed music, and presents that seemed to be lighting up the campers' faces with joy as they opened them. "He asked me what I wanted for my birthday, and I said that I wanted everyone to be happy. Cheesy I know, but we tried the best we could."

Annabeth smiled at her cousin, thinking about how much she had changed from the first time she met her in New York and now. She figured, being a demigod can do that to people, but Skye had a major reality check, and had been able to handle her situations…maturely.

Kind of.

Not really.

But either way- Annabeth was very proud of her cousin.

"Speaking of presents," Skye said and took out a white box with a golden bow around it from the bag at her side. She held it up to Annabeth, and Annabeth took it gingerly.

"This is for you," Skye said. "After all of the shit I put you through, it's the least I could do."

"Thank you, Skye," Annabeth said sincerely as she opened the box. She gasped upon sight of the ancient scrolls that sat in the bottom of the box.

"Oh my gods…are these?!"

"Yes," Skye laughed. Annabeth almost collapsed from excitement as she examined the actual blueprints for the Roman coliseum, the Roman forums…even the Greek Parthenon.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Annabeth cried while crushing Skye in a bone crushing hug. Skye laughed and hugged her back. Annabeth suddenly started thinking about everything she could do with these blueprints and how she could study the actual writing and works from the scrolls. She could do so much more than reading about them online or using a picture in a book.

"I need to make some finishing touches on my works on Olympus…and I need to…oh gods, I need to do so much!" Annabeth said suddenly. She waved goodbye to the others before heading off to her cabin to get to work.

She couldn't wait to start.

Skye

Skye and Apollo's plan went off without a hitch.

Skye saw smiles everywhere she went at camp, and that was honestly all she could ask for. Apollo had to head back to Olympus for the majority of the day, but he said he would be back later to see Fletcher.

As Skye was in the archery ranges, shooting arrows after arrows, and becoming more skilled with a bow, someone snuck up behind her. She gripped the hilt of her bow, hearing the not-so-stealthy person step on a couple twigs as they tried to scare her.

She spun around at the last minute, and held the tip of an arrow directly at Connor's nose.

"Whoa, there sunshine!" he said, putting his hands up in surrender. Skye glared at him, but slowly lowered her bow.

"Don't scare me like that," she hissed, but before she could complain anymore, Connor's lips were suddenly on hers. Now that's something she wouldn't complain about.

"Happy birthday," he murmured against her lips, and Skye giggled, leaning back slightly to look at him and the way his eyes sparkled in the sunlight.

"You already told me that," she whispered, and Connor smiled before kissing her nose.

"Yeah, but I wanted to do it properly," he said as he lingered his lips just above her own, causing her to ache for more of his kisses. Luckily, he leaned down and closed the gap between the two of them, and Skye felt like she was on Cloud 9. She felt completely blissful, like nothing could bring her down even if it tried.

She tangled her hands into Connor's hair, and tugged him closer. He deepened the kiss, earning a soft noise from the back of Skye's throat, and she could practically see the smirk on his lips as he kissed her.

She was the one to break it off first, and they pulled away from each other, breathing and panting heavily. Skye laughed nervously and shook her head as Connor rested his own on her forehead.

"Did you get what you wanted for your birthday?" Connor asked while holding her waist with her hands wrapped around his neck. She nodded and smiled.

"That, and more."

"Good," Connor said before pressing a lingering kiss to her lips. "I'm glad."

"There is one thing," Skye said, before pulling back slightly. Connor frowned and raised an eyebrow at her. Skye suddenly became very nervous. Her hands began to shake and her breathing was uneven, and she felt like her mouth was a desert. She was so angry that this boy had this effect on her, but at the same time, she craved it from him. Ugh, it was so complicated.

"You know…we're not…like I mean…I guess we're not official…and I don't want to be that type of girl but-"

She was cut off with Connor's lips on her own. He stopped her blabbering with a sweet, chaste, kiss that sent every cell in her body to explode slightly and cause her brain to feel like a pile of mush. She could kiss this boy for forever, she swears.

"Skye Robertson," Connor whispered. He pulled back barely so that his lips barely brushed Skye's. "Will you do me the honor of being my lovely girlfriend?"

Okay, now Skye was on Cloud 9.

She laughed, purely out of joy, and purely out of nerves, but she sealed the deal with a sweet kiss.

"I'd love to, Connor Stoll," she said against his lips, and he laughed before picking her up and spinning her around.

Best birthday ever? Definitely.

Annabeth

Annabeth was hunched over her desk, examining her new blueprints and feeling like she had struck gold. She was scribbling down notes in her notebook, and was examining each word and letter and how they were written. She examined the small details like the nooks in-between the columns, or how they used marble instead of stone.

She was completely and utterly, in the zone. If anyone interrupted her, she would slaughter them with no mercy with her sword, and she didn't care who they were.

But of course, that…that Seaweed Brain, comes into her cabin and pulls a chair up right next to her desk. The cabin is empty, besides the two of them, and the only noise that's coming from inside the cabin is the soft hum from the music outside at camp flowing through the open windows, and Percy's breathing.

He knows better not to say anything to her. He sat forward and squinted his eyes at the scrolls, obviously struggling with trying to read it. Annabeth had to admit, it took her while to decipher the Latin scrolls with her dyslexia and all. The Greek scrolls came much easier to her.

Percy was practically leaning over her shoulder, and Annabeth tapped her pencil nervously against her notebook, hoping that he'd get the message and go sit on her bunk or something. Not leaning directly over her shoulder and breathing in her ear.

It was very dirstracting, especially with a girl with ADHD. But sometimes, Annabeth felt like Percy's ADHD was worse, especially when he started tapping his foot against the wooden floors.

"Can I help you with something?" Annabeth asked curtly. Her words were short and clipped, as if she was trying to hold back her anger (which she was), and Percy just stared at her as she spoke. His eyes were wide, like a puppy's which was so not fair.

"I just wanted to see my beautiful girlfriend," he said with a smile. Annabeth pretended to ignore the compliment, although she couldn't ignore the blush on her cheeks.

"Your girlfriend is a bit busy at the moment," she said while turning back to the scrolls and blueprints. Percy whined, and Annabeth suddenly felt like she was babysitting a five-year old. Percy stood from sitting next to her and Annabeth silently thanked all of the gods for that. And then he went over and sat on her bunk.

They were in silence for a few more moments while Annabeth worked and Percy…did whatever he was doing. Napping, thinking, listening to the music outside? Whatever.

What Annabeth wasn't prepared for, was Percy ambushing her and kissing her fiercely and breaking her from every thought possible that was based on her scrolls and blueprints. She gasped as soon as Percy pulled her away from her desk and led her over to her bunk.

"You can work on those later," he murmured, and Annabeth obliged almost immediately. Her mind was too clouded, but later she was definitely going to yell at him for distracting her.

After a rather…nice make-out session, Percy and Annabeth lay on her bunk with her head rested on his chest and his arms wrapped around her torso. The windows were open to let in the warm summer air, and Annabeth could hear the shouts of campers as they raced off in joy or the soft hum of the music still blaring in the speakers.

She loved the way Percy's chest rose and fell beneath her head, and how she could hear his heart thump against his chest. She loved to know he was here, and he was with her.

They sat in silence for a few more moments, until Percy shifted from underneath her. He adjusted himself so he was lying on his side, and was facing her. Annabeth laughed at the dorky smile that was written across his face, but by the time she looked back once more, his smile was replaced with a very serious expression, and his pursed lips didn't help to make him look any more laid-back.

"Marry me," he suddenly spoke, and Annabeth felt like her heart was caught in her throat. He didn't indicate any sign that this was a joke and Annabeth thought her head was going to explode as she stared at him.

"W-What?" she finally spoke.

"Marry me," Percy repeated. Annabeth tried to find the right words to say, but suddenly she was picturing herself as Percy's wife, and her heart began to hammer so hard against her chest so almost couldn't breathe.

"Percy-"

"Annabeth, I'm in love with her. I always have been from the moment I laid eyes on her, and dammit, I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you because there's no one else but you that I want next to me for it. I love you and I want you to marry me," he said, and Annabeth noticed for the first time that his hands were shaking. Annabeth didn't know what to say, and she assumed she was taking too long to answer because Percy chewed on his bottom lip nervously.

"Say something?" he asked softly. Annabeth knew she couldn't think of anything to say, but it didn't matter because she grabbed his face, pulled him to her, and kissed him with every ounce of her being.

"I'd love to marry you, Percy," Annabeth said, and she meant it too. She couldn't picture herself with anyone besides him, and she noticed the look of relief wash over his face as she said that. Percy laughed nervously, and soon both of them were laughing.

"Gods, I love you," he said while smiling stupidly at her. Annabeth laughed and shut him up with a kiss.

"You'd better, because I love you too."

And they laid there together for the rest of the evening, until being thrown out by Annabeth's siblings.

And she had to admit.

She was so completely happy that nothing else seemed to matter.
