Chapter 37
He's A tease
"So the equivalent of a human engagement ring is a bite mark?" his tone was dubious and disbelieving.
"Claim mark," I corrected, I could imagine what he must think, though I was not too worried as I could still feel his mouth exploring my neck and shoulder.
"I am not usually the possessive sort, but I like the idea of the claiming mark. Unlike a ring you cannot take it off,, though I will get you one as well to discourage human males." He said as his hands moved down my arm to lace our fingers together.
I smiled softly as I understood what he meant with his actions, "The claiming/courting mark is more than just a mere bite Edward." I admonished teasingly.
"Of that I have no doubt; I'm only waiting on you to tell me what I need to know.'" He prompted me to go one with the explanation.
"Ok the courting mark is in essence a light soul bond. The first placed for mating purposes. It is like a single steel cable connecting our souls together in preparation for a true bonding. The connection while weak in comparison to what it will become is a sort of transmitter. The mark is meant to tell you if I need you, it will alert you to any extreme emotional turmoil. By placing the mark you are agreeing to be my protector. The link does work both ways; I will be able to feel any extreme emotion you have as well. Like the engagement ring you are promising not to take another lover to your bed; if you do the mark will burn off the moment you cheat." I smile at him, "I don't think we will have any problems with you being monogamous."
"So by placing the mark I would be able to sense when you need me?" he asked and I nodded.
"Yes, you would also be able to use the mark to locate me after some experience with it. If the need is great enough we could also mind speak, I would hear you and you would hear me even if I was in another country. Of course the same could be said in reverse, the bond goes both ways." I continued the more in-depth explanation of the mark and its consequences.
"Is there anything that would need to be done before we could place the courting mark?" He asked and I wondered if he actually was contemplating doing it now.
Tilting my head up to look at him I smiled coyly, "Just getting the permission to place it."
"So if we wanted we could start the mating process now by placing the courting mark?" He asked placing his teeth on the spot I had earlier indicated as the place one would put the mark of intent.
Anticipation curled in my stomach and my eyes closed in pleasure, "I should probably warn you," I said breathlessly.
"Hmm" he hummed to show he was listening.
"When you place the mark, it causes an instantaneous reaction in both our bodies. An orgasmic reaction, so you should be prepared for that."
So, other than needing to hunt; for obvious reasons, we can start the process immediately after?" He asked pulling his mouth from my shoulder and disappoint filled me.
