Lauren Lewis' day went from bad to worst in almost two seconds flat. She had been working on a very special assignment at her home, happy and carefree, and then she got the call that she needed to come to the Dal because Bo was hurt and she wasn't waking up. The doctor had gotten so flustered, she almost forgot her medical bag, and bolted out of the door.
By the time she had gotten to the Dal, Dyson had gotten there first and had restored Bo to her pristine health. Lauren didn't understand why she needed to be there, she didn't know why Trick had called her, all Lauren knew was she wanted to be out of there and gone in the wind.
So when Tamsin had walked into the bar, Lauren doubted she got a call and instead was there for some unwinding and beer, the doctor was surprised Tamsin sought her out and didn't seem phased about the scene before her.
Grabbing Lauren's hand, she led her out of the Dal after taking her bag and scooting it under the bar; Tamsin looked behind at Dyson, nodded, and brought her outside into the cold.
"You'll need this," Tamsin said, swinging a large jacket into Lauren's face, along with a helmet.
"Tamsin, what…" Lauren decided against asking as she saw Tamsin get onto a very intriguing, sleek BMW HP2 Sport bike, with blue lining for the wheels, and a black coat of paint only broken up by the streams of blue and red that lined the crevices. Lauren looked back down at the too big jacket and decided to put it on. She felt it was too big and her suspicions were correct when Tamsin looked around and laughed wildly.
"You look like a god damn crack whore who was finally allowed to wear something," she laughed, unafraid to show her true emotions. Lauren, who had enough of people laughing at her- be it in their heads as the fae inside, or in reality like the fae out in the cold-, it didn't matter to her and she was about to throw the jacket off; but suddenly Tamsin was there, holding the front of it together, and looking into her eyes.
"It suits you," Tamsin said, looking a little too deeply into Lauren's eyes. "You gonna get on or what?" Tamsin blinked rapidly and moved away from Lauren, hiding her scowl from the doctor, and back to the bike. Swinging her leg over expertly and putting on her own helmet, she looked back at Lauren expectantly.
Lauren didn't know if she should take it as a compliment or not, she knew she must have looked ridiculous in the over sized jacket- most like a high schooler wearing their boyfriends letter jacket- but chose to overlook it.
The doctor moved slowly towards the bike after putting on her helmet, swung her leg over, and was surprised at how comfy the bike was considering it was only for one person. She almost fell off of it as Tamsin gunned the bike immediately, Lauren had to grab onto the valkyrie's mid-section hurriedly, and they shot off down the alley.
The city was a blur before them as Tamsin road the bike a little too fast between winding cars. A cascade of loud horns and honks blared in Lauren's ears as Tamsin cut off yet another car in their pursuit out of town. Lauren didn't know they had gotten out of town until the bike began to jolt a bit more as they got onto a dirt road. The dirt road led them up and up and up, and soon Lauren didn't know where she was. She had never taken such a path, or knew it existed, and it was strange for her to be out of the city.
To be so far away from the fae and their rules.
To be away from Bo.
Tamsin slowly decelerated the bike as they got to an opening and put out the kickstand. Looking over her shoulder, she waited patiently for Lauren to get enough leverage to push herself off, before getting off herself. Lauren's legs were like putty and Tamsin put out a comforting hand on her shoulder to steady her.
"Walk it off," Tamsin said, after taking off her helmet and putting it on the handlebar. She took Lauren's helmet and put it on the other. "Your legs will be fine in a minute. It happens to virgins."
"Virgins?"
"On the bike, doc." Tamsin's face pulled into a grin and Lauren had to mentally hit herself over the head.
After finally getting enough circulation into her legs again, Lauren looked around for the first time. They were in a small clearing that marked the woods from the sheer cliff. Looking around, she didn't see anything interesting about it.
"Tamsin, while it's very impressive you have a bike, what are we doing here? I should go back to the lab, I have a lot of work to do."
"Are you always this peachy on dates?" Tamsin answered, taking a surprised Lauren's hand, and leading her to the cliff face.
Lauren caught her breath as she peered out. What the giant base was hiding from her from where the bike was parked, was a beautiful scenery of the entire city. The bright lights looked like stars, the tall buildings looking like dark giants against the sky, the windows glistening barely in the moonlight.
It was breath taking.
It was beautiful.
It was everything Lauren needed.
"I found it a few weeks ago when I was hunting," Tamsin said absently, still holding Lauren's hand. She looked side long at the doctor and found the human fixated at the beauty of the brightened city. "You can come up here anytime you want."
"Could… could I call you?" Lauren asked, finally tearing her eyes away from the city and looking into brilliant green ones.
"Yeah, you can call me anytime." Tamsin almost choked out the words and she distracted herself by looking out into the city. Lauren's hand tightened around hers and Tamsin let her.
Anytime you need me.
