A/N Hey guys! So good thing, no one full on hated the thing I was doing, so YAY! Anyway, i had a really weird dream that I was getting married and the guys from my sisters school wanted to be my bridesmaids and they all had long hair and my sisters ex-boyfriend had a braid. And I went to go look at the venue and it was under construction. There was more but I am boring you. Here is chapter 35. Enjoy!
When I wake up, my head is pounding and I'm still in the closet. I move my hand to reach the doorknob but I recoil from the pain. I look down and find that my arms, legs, back, face and neck is covered with thick red slashes. He whipped me with his belt. Tears begin to fill my eyes and I don't stop them. As they pour out they sting the mark on my cheek. To weak to do anything else, I start kicking the door to a set rhythm. After only a few minutes later the door swings open and Marcus stands above me. I shrink back into the wall as much as I can.
"Oh stop." he says. "I just want to show you something." he grabs my wrist and yanks me up from the ground. I bite my lip to contain a scream. He drags me trough the hallway, and I now see that the way we came in is blocked with a door. It wouldn't surprise me if it was locked. "So I found out that this used to be a control room, and I figured how to start them up again. And look at what one of the camera is focusing on." he has a sort of glee in his voice that makes me not want to see the screen, but I do anyway. What I see, breaks into a thousand pieces. Tobias is sitting down leaning on door, and it's obvious he's crying.
"Where is he?" I demand. My voice sounds surprisingly strong considering how much pain I'm in.
"Funny things," Marcus whispers. "Its right outside this door." without listening to another word, I turn and run to the door. But Marcus was too fast and he grabbed the top of my arm before I reach the door. He covers my mouth to, to make sure I don't scream. "Listen up, I'm willing to show you some mercy. I will let you go and sit at the door, as long as you don't make any sound whatsoever. And if you do, I will not hesitate to kill you." he releases me and shoves me forward. I stumble a little but find my way to the ground. It's nearly impossible not to scream with Tobias only inches away from me.
"She's never coming back." I hear Tobias say, roughly. It nearly breaks my heart that he's given up already. An idea pops in my head, and I decide it's my last chance. As slowly as I can, I undo the clasp holding one of my bracelets together. He gave it too me a few months ago. I'm about to drop it, when Marcus grabs my arm and pulls me up.
"I said to not let him know you're-" he begins.
"You said I couldn't make any noise, and I wasn't." I smirk a little but it disappears when I see his face. He grabs a fistful of my hair, and uses it to slam my head into the cold brick wall. "Don't try anything else." he warns me. I nod excruciatingly. I'm back in the closet but this time he doesn't shut the door. He stands above me, slowly unwinding his belt.
"Please, I won't do it again...I swear." I know begging won't help. I cover my head with my arms as soon as the belt flies down and hits my leg. I scream from the pain and start to cry again. I just want this to be over. More than anything, I hope I die right here to stop the pain. This time the belt slaps across my face.
"You really should've thought your little stunt through." Marcus says through the whipping.
"I'm...I...I'm-sorry." I wheeze. Apparently that's what he was waiting for, because he draws back and nods. I notice some of my blood is staining his face.
"Good." he says. "Now, just don't try anything again." he turns to walk out of the closet, and I risk talking.
"Wait," it even hurts to speak. "What are doing?" he just glares at me, then leaves. I wait a minute or two just to make sure he's gone, then I painfully stand up with the aid of the wall. To my luck, and surprise, the door isn't fully closed. I tap it and it moves open a little more. I smile for the first time in what feels like years. I push the door open more and begin to run to door closing off the hallway. I turn to look back one more time and I stop dead in my tracks. Marcus stands crossing his arms and raising an eyebrow.
"You never learn do you?" he spits. I step forward pretending to come to him, but a split second later I turn and start kicking and screaming at the door. I'm pulled away, and my small shrewd of hope left falls through my fingers. I know what awaits me back in the closet and fear prickles throughout my body.
Hours later I'm still paralyzed on the floor. That was the worst it's ever been. I cough red blood onto the floor and I feel hopeless all over again. I'm going to die in this closet, away from Tobias and Eleanor. Eleanor. The thought of her just drains me. The door opens and I being to panic.
"Don't worry," Marcus says. It's amazing how two words that are supposed to sound helpful and coming, come out of his mouth cold and devoid of emotion. "I've have not been to Abnegation since yesterday, and they are probably expecting me. I'm gonna go and come back as soon as I can. And, don't try to escape again." he walks out, locking the door behind him.
I wait for half an hour before I get up again. I pull a pin from my hair, and carefully stick it into the lock. My hands shake violently, half from fear, and half from exhaustion. My whole body begins to ache and I don't know how much longer I can stay alive. Period. Finally the door unlocks and I feel a rush of relief. I'm just praying Marcus isn't waiting outside. When I decide it's safe I push the door open and sprint shakily to the door at the end of the hallway. As fast as I can I try picking the lock on this one. It takes longer, but I finally get it. Then, I'm out.
Tobias POV
I walk through the Pit and by the Chasm. Zeke and Shauna offered to watch Eleanor, and I let them. As I'm walking, running my hand along the Chasm rails, my foot lands on something metal. I bend over and pick up the object. The second my eyes land on it, I recognize it as the ring I gave Tris months ago.
"Oh my God," I breath. A million thought run through my head, such as her in the Chasm. Dead. Or somewhere in the entire city of Chicago. Dead. As I turn to run somewhere else, somebody staggers out from an old hallway, probably drunk.
"Excuse me, do you need any help?" I ask, loudly so the person can hear me. The blond women looks up, then collapses. I jog over and as I get closer, I see the women is covered with red marks. When I'm a few feet away, everything clicks. "Oh my God, Tris!" I fall down next to her, and gently push her onto her back so I can see her face. "Come on Tris, stay with me." her eyes open and focus and unfocus on me.
"Good to see you," she breaths out. She starts to cough and blood come from her mouth. Her eyes drift shut and I gently slide my arms under her.
"Hey, it's going to be okay. I promise." I pick her up as carefully as I can and jog to the infirmary. I don't think I want to know what happened to her. She's covered with red whip marks and her head has a couple large bumps. And on top of it all, she's coughing up blood. I burst through the doors, making the few people in there jump.
"What's wrong with her?" a doctor asks while I slide her down onto the stretcher.
"I don't know, she went missing yesterday and I just saw her like this." I'm surprised I could even manage that. My throat feels like it's sealing up. The doctor presses two fingers to her neck and his eyes widen.
"I can't find a pulse." he tries her wrist and another part on her neck. "Get her into room A-17 immediately!" the doctor and three nurses run down the hall and I wish I could follow them. Someone grabs my arm gently and guides me to a chair, then hands me a cup of water. I look up and recognize Marlene. She gives me a reassuring smile.
"She'll be okay. Tris is a fighter, trust me, she'll get through this." Marlene says. I don't respond, just nod and look down.
A few hours later, the doctor comes out with his face red from exertion.
"Is she okay?" I shoot up from the chair and ask him.
"Her heart stopped three times, but she's in stable condition now." he tells me. "If you want, you can come see her." I follow him down the hall and right before I walk in, he stops me. "Listen, she keeps slipping into to random fits of terror. So be very careful." I nod a little and open the door quietly. Her eyes find mine the second I step in, and she noticeably relaxes.
"Hey honey," I say with a smile. I sit in the chair next to her bed and grab her hand.
"He came," she whispers. "He tried to kill me."
"Who?" I ask, fearing the worst.
"Marcus, I...he tried pushing me into the Chasm and he-" her breathing speeds up and she squeezes my hand tighter. Her eyes seal shut as if she's trying to ward off a bright light. "Tobias, help me." I jump up from the chair and sit next her and she curls up into me. I wrap my arms around her as she begins to sob.
"It's going to be okay, honey. I promise." I say as calm as I can. It takes nearly an hour for her to calm down, and even when she does, she stays curled next to me.
"Thank you," she says quietly.
"What for?" I ask.
"Being here," her bright blue eyes look up at me, the most innocent I've ever seen.
"Of course," I kiss her head and she winces.
"I feel like crap." she admits.
"I know what the answer is, but do you want to tell me what happened?" her eyes widen a little and she shakes her head.
"Later." she says. "Well, you can kind of see what he did." she lifts her arms and grimaces. "Oh my God it's hideous."
"You're going to be okay."
"I know but...it was horrible, Tobias." she looks tame with full seriousness. "I...I'm still terrified." she closes her eyes again and soon falls asleep.
A/N Crappy ending, but a decent chapter. It was long so I hoped you liked that. So today I visited my great grandmother, and went shopping and got a smoothie. It was a good day. And I'm going out to dinner to my favorite seafood place in the world. If you live in Tallahassee you know what the Seinyard is, and you should love it. Well that's al! Ily and DFTBA!
