The ropes finally gave way and fell to the floor by Jace' feet. Jonathan had yet to notice as his sole focus had been on Clary, and she hadn't noticed because she had her eyes closed and her face almost buried in her shoulder. Jace got up slowly from his chair, he crouched lower in his stance, and began to prowl towards Jonathans turned back.
He was just about to close in on Jonathan when Clary opened her eyes and saw him. It was too late for her to contain the small squeak of surprise she made, which gave Jonathan the mere seconds of warning that he needed. He turned quickly, his eyes widening slightly as he took in Jace' clear lack of being restrained. However, Jace was weakened by being restrained for so long and having such unforgiving conditions for god knows how long, yet Jonathan was pumped up on adrenaline and clearly in no way distressed. He was able to easily sock Jace in the jaw. His head snapped to the side and he stumbled back. In the moments that it took him to regain his balance Jonathan was advancing on him. he punched him once more to land him on the floor on his back. He drew his leg back and extended it into Jaces side. Jace groaned and flipped onto his side, clutching his ribs.
'Stop Jonathan! Please!' Clary shouted as she saw him draw himself up for another kick. He kicked Jace once more, firmly in the gut insuring that he wouldn't be getting up for a while, before turning back to Clary. Clary looked up at him, still twisting her now bleeding wrists behind her, desperately hoping for any leeway in the tight bondage. She was leaning forward slightly, as if trying to propel herself closer to Jace. All she was doing was succeeding in giving herself terrible arm pain.
Jonathan walked over to her, it took Clary a few seconds to process the slap and when she finally did, her face throbbed with an unbearable heat. She looked back at Jonathan, sure enough, Jonathan was standing with his hand raised slightly, the only inclination that anything had happened.
She was about to open her mouth to rebut him when he brought his hand down onto her face again. This time, she really, really, felt the force of his hit. It was amplified tenfold as Jonathan had struck her in the same spot as before. She gasped, and couldn't help how her eyes watered and unwanted tears flowed down her cheeks.
Jace groaned from his place on the floor, he wished desperately that he was able to uncurl himself from the fetal position he was curled in but the pain that was coursing through his body was making that impossible. He was aware of the fact that Clary was staring at him, whether to see if he was okay, or question if he was going to come help her. He figured that it was the second one. In all honesty, Clary was staring at Jace to try and calm herself. She needed the reassurance that he was okay; as long as it wasn't him that was getting hurt she could endure. Since Clary was focused on watching Jace, she was unaware of Jonathan raising his hand over his head, prepping to strike again.
He had allowed this to go on for too long, allowed Clary to get hurt too many times. He gritted his teeth and pushed himself on his elbows. He was pulling himself onto his knees when something heavy hit him in the back of his head. He fell back to the ground. His vision was blurring, black was dancing around the edges of his sight.
The last thing he saw before losing consciousness was Clarys horrified face looking down at him.
