Fractured

Chapter Thirty Five

"Hap...I can explain." Nicole watched as Happy just stared at the pamphlet in his hand. She new exactly what he was reading and re-reading. Abortion. The date, time. She just wanted to tear the pamphlet out of his hands. Tear it into a million pieces and throw it any, as if it never existed. In some ways she wished it didn't.

Getting pregnant was terrifying one of her worst fears- which she didn't even realise until it happened- she wasn't in the right place to be a mother. She had barley made it through 7 months sober how the hell was she suppose to look after a child, have it depend on her for everything when she couldn't even look after herself. Which is why to her the only thing she could do was abort this baby.

Lyla had encouraged her to tell Happy but Nicole knew that if she did there was a good possibility that he would make her keep it. Which is why as soon as her fears had be confirmed she had sworn to herself that Happy would never find out about this pregnancy. And she had stuck to her guns. Now thought it had been taken out of her hands and she knew that Happy was going to see it for exactly what it was, a betrayal.

And Nicole Teller knew exactly how Happy Lowman dealt with betrayal..

"It mine?" Happy asked after what felt like a life time of silence for Nicole. He still didn't look at her though. And that stung Nicole as much as his question did.

"Of course it's yours. How ca..." She stopped suddenly as Happy's dark chocolate orbs narrowed in on her. This was it, this was what she had been fearing. She took two steps back from those menacing eyes of his. "Happy..." She croaked her voice and body trembling with nerves and fear.

"This is for today." He rasped as he scrunched the paper up in his fist. He took those two steps closer to her." Did you kill it. My kid?" Nicole shook her head as tears escaped. She couldn't speak, her fear towards him towards how any of her next words could be the last had hear speechless. And that when her reflexes kicked in. She ran. Nicole almost made it to the door when she was forcibly stopped in her escape.

Fury growing even more upon seeing her try to flee Happy ate up the ground Nicole had created between them and reached out snagging her arm roughly and pulling her back to him.

He was enraged by the revelations unfolding before him. From finding the pamphlet, seeing the words abortion, seeing the date, having her confirm that it...this kid...was his. He was blinded by rage towards her.

Fatherhood had never been something that he had thought about, his life style never allowing for it, shit his life style had never really even allowed for an old lady. He fucked his way through sweetbutts and the occasional civilian when his appetite desired something different from the easy, used up pussy he was used to. Nicole however had completely side swiped him. He thought once he had gotten her out of his system he would be done. He never anticipated that she would root herself so deep inside him. But she had and she had him doing things that he never thought he would do. He loved her. He couldn't remember one time in his life ever having felt this way about someone. And he knew- or at least thought- that she felt the same way.

But now...now all that was coming into question. She was pregnant with his child and she was or already had killed the kid without so much as a word spoken to him. And now she was trying to do what she always did. Avoid and run. Happy was having none of it. He needed answers...he just needed to know why.

Nicole let out a cry as Happy's calloused fingers wrapped around her upper arm applying so much pressure that her skin would wear the evidence for days. Another cry escaped from her lips as her back hit the wall.

"Stop... Hap.." Her words were cut dead as those calloused fingers of his wrapped around her delicate neck. His well trained thumb applying enough pressure to her trachea to hurt her but not enough to stop her from being able to breath completely...yet. She knew he wasn't done with her just yet.

"Did you kill my fucking kid?" He seethed pronouncing each word clearly making sure that the shaking wreak of a girl in his hands understood him clearly enough to answer him fucking properly.

"Hap..." It was a whisper but his name tumbling from her lips in a desperate plea was not what he was looking for, so Happy asked again.

Nicole blinked rapidly, tears streaming down her face as Happy repeated himself. His thumb pressing harder. Her hands came up trying to release his grip but it was to no avail. Happy being to strong. She closed her eyes before finally giving him the answer she knew he would be so desperate to hear and the answer that might just save her from having the man she loved more than anyone before, squeeze the life out of her.

"What?" Happy asked as he eased the pressure enough to hear her clearly this time.

"I'm still pregnant." Nicole gasped for air as his grip loosened even more. "I'm still pregnant Happy."

Happy backed away from her. He watched as her trembling hand wrap around her own throat as if by rubbing if it, it would take away the pain that he had caused. She didn't move though and as she stood there staring at him with fear and worry, his eyes drifted to her stomach. His breaths uneven. And within a split second, unable to contain it all Happy's arm hit out knocking the entire contents of the dresser- Nicole stood trembling- to the floor. A small scream escaped Nicole's mouth but it did not stop him. Happy needed the release. He tore one of the drawers from the dresser throwing it across the room. He did this with every draw until finally kicking the now empty dresser repeatedly until it broke in half.

Out breath and adrenaline pumping through his veins, Happy flipped the leather ottoman that resided at the bottom of her bed across the room, not caring that the contents- like the draws- scattered the room. His eyes searched for something else that he could destroy when his eyes fell onto Nicole.

She was cowering on the floor, knees pressed to her chest, tears falling. His eyes were drawn to her hand that was pressed to her cheek, or rather to the crimson liquid seeping through her delicate fingers. He realised that in his rage the mirror above the dresser had smashed. The scattered shards laid all around her.

He ran his hand back and forth over his head. He didn't now what to do. He never meant to hurt but right now he was finding it a little hard to feel any sort of remorse.

"Get your shit packed." He ordered before storming out the bedroom unable to stay in the room with her especially now that he had unintentionally hurt her physically.

Nicole pulled her trembling hand away from her face, more tears forming at the sight of the blood. Her eyes drifted around the now trashed room. What had she done.

He had never looked at her like that not even when she had returned to Charming with a fiancé in tow. He had been pissed but nothing like what she had just witnessed. She knew that she had betrayed him in the worse way possible. And even though she sat there with a cut to her face, her arms and throat forming bruises that would be there as a reminder, the only place she felt pain was in her heart, because she knew that she had lost him.

"Nicole..." Hearing Phil's voice and heavy boots drift towards her room Nicole quickly wiped at her tears before using the now broken dresser to help her to her feet. Just as she went to close the door hiding the ugly truths of what had just happened from Phil, he was stood in the doorway his eyes wide in shock, which in all fairness to the guy he quickly shook off and went back into Son mode.

"We need to get you ready." Nicole nodded.

"I know just give me a minute."

"Woah..." Phil quickly reached out and caught Nicole before she fell.

"I'm okay..." Nicole tried to reassure but Phil wasn't buying it. And she wasn't a 100% covined herself. Her whole body was shaking and her legs felt like jelly. All she wanted to do was collapse into a hole. Phil started ushering her around the destruction that was her room to a free spot on her large queen bed.

"You just sit here Okay. I'll um...I'll get you cleaned up." She new he was referring to the cut on her face. She could feel the bloody oozing from the open wound. She must have looked awful.

"Phil." He stopped on his way to the bathroom and looked back at her. "Thank you."

Tara closed the door behind Allie Lowan. She had spent the last hour talking with the lawyer about her chances. Allie seemed positive, only sparing a worry for the nurses brother. However the positivity Allie portrayed didn't rub off on Tara. She had been arrested, held over night. She knew it was only a matter of time before her escape route was gone. Once Oregan got wind of this she knew that they would retract their offer. She felt the lump rise in her throat. She couldn't do this she couldn't allow Samcro to rip away her freedom, her boys freedom. She just couldn't.

She heard the familiar beep of her phone. That was the second time. She reached for for her cell off the counter top. One new voicemail.

Nicole looked through her toiletry bag doing a metal check-list. Jax's instructions had been vague. She had no clue how long she would be in Tacoma for and right now she didn't care. Deciding that she had enough stuff and knowing that even if she didn't she could always by new stuff Nicole grabbed her bag, catching her reflection in the mirror. Her throat was red, finger marks evident. The cut on her cheek was now covered with Steri-strips. She hated the person staring back her. Unable to look any longer she snatched up her bag and walked out of the bathroom and towards her bedroom.

"You didn't have to do that." Phil looked up from the dresser he was try to fix.

"Thought I'd make myself useful." Phil shrugged. Nicole smiled at him. He really was a sweet guy. She walked over to her duffel bag and shoved her toiletry bag inside.

"Is it time?"

"Yeah I guess so." Just then the two of them heard the roar of a familiar Harley pulling into her drive. Nicole sucked in a breath.

"Okay let's go."

"I've got that." Phil said taking the bag from Nicole clearly seeing her fatigued body struggle.

"Thank you." She said with a nod. With the nerves rushing through her veins she forced herself to walk down the hall, knowing exactly who would be waiting for her.

Happy heard the shuffling down the hall. He clenched his fists unsure if he was ready to face her but knowing he had a job to see through. She rounded the corner into the kitchen first. Her eyes were puffy and he could see the red marks forming into bruises on both her arms and her throat. The harsh redness on her cheek where the glass had cut her skin didn't go unnoticed either, even though it was now covered by Steri-strips. He was glad when Phil bounded round the corner joining them in the kitchen, because Happy didn't know how much longer he could contain the anger raging inside of him.

"Put the bag in her truck." He instructed to Phil who in return nodded and proceeded out of the kitchen with her bag. "Phil and me are gonna follow you to the halfway mark. The Oregon charter will take you the rest of the way." He snapped coldly as he walked towards the door he had entered through.

"Happy wait..." He stopped at the door, surprising Nicole. "Can we please talk about this." She asked if not slightly pleading. She couldn't just leave it like this. She couldn't go to Tacoma without him knowing why she had betrayed him.

"We've already lost time."

"I never doubted you as a farther Hap..." She spat as his hand turned on the door handle. "It was me...this was always about me." She watched his hand fall from the handle, taking that as a good sign she continued. "I'm not fit to be mother Hap not now, not here. Everything is falling down around us, I...I'm drowning here Hap..." She chocked back her tears as she finally spoke honestly. "We all are." She waited for some sort of reaction from him anything but he just continued to stare at the door leaving his back facing towards her. Again the knowledge of knowing that she had lost him felt like someone had just stabbed he in the heart. She wiped at her tears. She took two steps towards him only to stop when he turned to face her.

"You should have told me. Full disclosure.."

"Full disclosure. So if Wendy hadn't of come to the hospital today would you have told me what you had done to her." Happy eyes wavered from hers. "I didn't think so...Did you even thin about me?"

"Did you think of me when you tried to kill my kid."

"I did nothing but think of you." Nicole answered honestly. She cleared her throat. "I was terrified." Her hand went to stomach for the first time really acknowledging to someone else that there was something growing inside of her. "Look around us Hap, I mean shit look what I'm having to do, run to Tacoma because it isn't safe here for me. I mean Jesus Hap what if this kid..." she hit her stomach to emphaise her point. "What if the treat was directed at them. I couldn't stand that and be honest with yourself Hap it would eat away at you to. "

"You've always known the life Nic." He snapped bitterly hating her words because deep down he knew she was right.

"Exactly Hap. I know how bad things can get. I can feel it now, and it scares the shit out of me."

"I protect you. I'd protect that damn kid." Happy roared moving towards her. Nicole stood her ground.

"Pumping Wendy full of drugs, was that for me Hap."

"That was club business."

"Bullshit that was revenge. Revenge on someone who was just trying to do right by her Kid." Happy ran his hand over his face "That could have been me Hap." Happy narrowed his eyes at her in confusion. "Clay, the Cartel...shit probably every enemy you and the club have knows about me about my addiction. What if someone wanted to silence me. I couldn't go back there Hap...It would..it would kill me and if that happened and I had this kid..." Nicole stopped as emotion over took her. She burst out tears. Because she had finally admitted one of her biggest fears. This child getting hurt, not by the club or their enemies but by her. What if she damaged her child so bad there was no coming back from it.

Happy watched as Nicole broke down. He had been so angry before that he couldn't think straight. All he had been focused on was her betrayal. He thought she was being selfish, a coward. But now seeing her like this hearing her spill her worst fears Happy realised that there as so much more to this than he had originally thought. He#d always known she had issues but only now did he really see how deep those issues were rooted in her.

He ran to her, catching her before she hit the ground. He wrapped his strong arms around as he carefully lowered them to the floor. He pulled her as close to him as he could. His hand running over her hair and he tried to soothe her. Happy may not be farther or now anything about kids but he did know that this kind of stress was not good for her or the kid.

"You need to calm down Nic..." She just shook her head, gripping onto his cut. "Ssshhh come on...calm down."

It felt longer but it took him 3.5 minutes to calm her down. His eyes having been glued to the clock on the wall. He wasn't just being an ass when he told her they had already wasted enough time. sensing she was ready Happy peeled her away from him. He felt her fight him but continued. His hands cupping her cheek.

"You ain't killing our kid." She started to shake his head but Happy held her a little more firmly. Stopping her. "This is what's gonna happen. Your gonna go to Tacoma. Your gonna keep your shit in line and then when shit is done here I'm gonna come and get you and we're sort this shit out."

"No please...please don't make me do this." Happy knew that she was referring to the baby rather than Tacoma. He have to make sure there were extra eyes on her when she hit Tacoma.

"Nicole, you don't want to fight me on this." He warned. "You won't like the outcome."
