I just want to tell you all why I didn't update yet this week... Well my ex principal died last friday and this week has been not that great at school because of it... we had one of those balloon releasing things for her today and it was so bitter-sweet. I was very irritated with the lack of respect that some of the people had for what was going on... I mean a woman we all knew DIED of Pancreatic Cancer. One idiot wouldn't even stand up, he sat down on the middle of the football field.
There's that and I had a swim meet on Wednesday so I couldn't even if I had really wanted to...
Peeta POV
"Katniss I have to get up now. I'll be right back okay. We have to set up the stuff out here." I tell her as she cowers against me. Seeing her this frightened makes me want to cry, I'm scared too but I know that one of us has to remain calm, I can't ask her to be strong for me so I'll have to be strong. Slowly she lets go of my shirt and wraps her arms around herself in a protective manner.
"Katniss?" I hear Prim ask from out of nowhere. I look over my shoulder and see that she's standing right behind me, she somehow managed to get between the doors and make it out here with her medic bag. "Are you two okay?" She asks bending down beside Katniss.
"What are you doing?" I ask incredulously.
"Doing my job." She replies not caring about the slight nagging tone I held in my voice. "Katniss are you hurt?" She asks serious again.
"Prim I'm fine. Get back in the shelter." She tells her firmly.
"No, I'm not leaving you again. Plus you need me to stay out here with you. There is a very likely chance you'll go into labor. Either from the shock, the stress, or the change in air pressure. I'm staying with you." She says defiantly.
"Prim I can take care of myself, and I'll have Peeta too so everything will be fine. So you can get your ass back in there or I can force you to go back in. Just go before you are out here and they lock you out. Please." Karin's pleads looking at her with sorrow filled eyes. "I'm just trying to keep you safe. Don't make me have to worry about you." She pleads.
"Katniss, I don't care what you say, I'm staying." She says defiantly. I look to Katniss, asking permission, before I pin both of Prim's arms behind her back and drag her, kicking and screaming, towards the slightly open door.
"No, I'm not going to leave you again!" prim screams as I carry her to the gap.
"Um, Soldier Mellark. We have the supplies you requested. Can I help you in any other way?" The man asks earnestly.
I put Prim down and quickly walk to the gap in the doors, grab the mattress he's pushing through and layers it down in one of the cement corners of the hall. That would be the most sturdy place in this hallway, therefore the best place to set up what I'm planning.
"Katniss are you sure you're okay?" Prim asks going back to her. I look at her for a moment and see that her face is blanch, eyes wide and the muscles in her arms are tense. "Katniss?" She asks again.
I know this look. It's the same one from when I had spent the night in her hospital room, when she had started yelling at nothing. The only difference is that this time she doesn't look as scared, contemplative, but not nearly as scared. Her eyes scrunch shut and then she looks back up and checks my face, then she looks at Prim.
"Why are you still out here?" She asks startling us both slightly.
Prim goes on the defensive again and I start to move our supplies to the 'fortress' I built-in the corner trying to get things done quickly. I walk back over to the two of them, Katniss is still slumped at the base of the wall right across the hall from the giant metal doors that mark the safety that we can barely not reach. The man is staring through the crack in the door at us.
"Just shut up I'm trying to get some answers." She whispers sharply into her shoulder. "Why can't we get in there? Why are we in the hallway? Is the Capitol coming for me?" She asks starting out rather relaxed and calm then on the last question she is looking quite paranoid, her head swivels from side to side then her eyes come to a stop looking at the small shelter in the corner.
"Katniss, the door is locked in place, the two of you can't get through. Peeta's built you two a small bunker for the time being. The Capitol isn't going to get you, I promise." Prim tells her.
"Prim, you said that Peeta and I couldn't fit in the door... you can?" She asks cautiously.
"Yes..." She replies sheepishly.
"Get in there then. I can't worry about you. Even if I'm having some sort of mental breakdown, I can't be worried about you. It'll only make things worse." She says still seeming slightly hysterical. I put a hand on her shoulder for a moment before taking Prim by the arm and ushers to the door. She still fights but not nearly as much as the first time when I tried to get her to go back in.
I take the few steps toward Katniss and she holds out her hands toward me. They are a bit shaky so I take them and pull her upwards to her feet and then guide her to the bunker. She lays down and I sit next to her. She looks so calm that I just look at her for a while.
My heart nearly jumps into my throat when there is a faint crashing noise, followed by moderate tremors and a louder noise. Katniss is evidently scared as well because she looks up to me with a frightened look on her face.
"There was the first one. Try to get some sleep, it's not going to get any better." I tell her pushing her lightly back onto the mattress.
Hope you liked it. Review. Sorry for not giving previews but as you saw this week hasn't been the greatest for me or most of the people in my school. Thank you all for understanding. And I'd just like to say that sometimes when I'm feeling sort of down I just read a few of the reviews and it really helps... bye hope you don't mind my rambling.
