Operation Blank Conspiracy 38

Heero was still in critical condition. A day had already passed and he was still at the hospital. Both Duo and the queen were still missing with no leads. There was no explanation behind the missing guards except two dead ones found out back while two maids were cleaning. Wufei worried his head over this. He was currently confined to the bedroom along with Treize. It wasn't just the two in lockdown but everyone present at the palace except high ranking Sanc Kingdom officers and the known Preventer agents, Trowa and Quatre.

Wufei sat on the end of the bed, his elbows resting on his knees while his chin lounged against the back of his hands. He wouldn't necessarily say he was lost in thought but he was frustrated. Not knowing Relena and Duo's statuses irked him. The fact that Heero was incapacitated irked him. And worse, the fact that he could do nothing about it irked him. He barely took a glance in Treize's direction, the one-sided argument they had yesterday already a faded memory.

When he found out about Duo's kidnapping and Heero's state of well-being, he panicked. He rushed out of the ballroom so quickly he was surprised Treize had caught up to him. Treize grabbing his arm and preventing him from walking was the triggering factor. It made him go off on the other man as he snatched his arm away spitting fire with the rage pouring out of him.

He lost his professional cool, going on a full rampage as he yelled at Treize and blamed him for what happened. This was OZ's fault, the same group that he was sure Treize had full control over. He was in Treize's face, more angered by the lack of a reaction from the older man than anything. He wanted to tie him down and torture him until he got all the answers out of him. And he probably would have if not for that one move on Treize's part that stopped all of his anger in an instance.

Wufei rested a finger against his lips and looked up again to where Treize was standing outside on the balcony. They couldn't do much, having guards down on the ground below them as well. The older man was leaning against the balcony looking out, a couple of small birds sitting down beside him not sensing a threat from the man. He tamed Wufei so easily with just the quick kiss that stopped Wufei's ranting and made his heart drop into his stomach. He'd stared up at the older man barely even registering when the other pulled back from him with a small smile. And the only thing he said to it was that, "OZ had nothing to do with this."

He would have raged more, yelled at him and complained that he was lying. But there was no lie in that man's eyes. With the anger gone, Wufei stepped back from him rubbing at his short hair and trying not to let the red show on his face as he returned to their room and laid down. He'd only meant to pretend to be resting and never intended to sleep, but with the way things had been going the past few days, sleep snuck up on him easily. The next he woke was to Quatre's text saying that Heero was still in the hospital. Conditions hadn't changed. Duo and Relena were still missing.

He didn't want to think about the state they'd found Heero in. His hands had been broken, his leg twisted in a way it shouldn't have been. His face was a mess of bruises and a broken nose while his chest was littered with boot prints. He'd been beaten pretty badly, his gun in shatters by his body along with his earpiece. He'd already passed out when the others found him, Quatre being the one to call and alert Wufei to what happened. They were down to three Preventers now. He wasn't going to be able to stay here for long as Treize's lapdog.

He glanced up again and found the blue eyes staring at him from the balcony before he blushed looking away quickly. Damn it, why did Treize have to do that? Ugh, it was hard to see him as an enemy after a move like that.

"So you're awake now," Treize said walking over to him. He had a cup of tea in his hand that must have been slid in by one of the guards. Glancing over, he saw the tray full of breakfast on the dining table. It wasn't much, just toast, fruits, and what was probably cold soup by now. "I thought I was going to have to wake you up myself."

"Don't…" Wufei shook his head closing his eyes to calm him, trying not to think about how soft Treize's lips had been. "…Has there been any change?"

"None," Treize said quickly though he walked back in slowly. "They have no leads so far on the enemy. And your friend is still in critical."

"Yeah…Quatre told me that."

"…We could change that." Wufei blinked at the words before he looked up seeing the smirk on Treize's lips.

"…Change it how?" At the question, Treize pulled out the vial of Fly-Z holding it up for Wufei to see it. At the sight of it, Wufei narrowed his eyes glaring before letting his eyes go up to Treize. "We're not using that crap on Heero."

"Why not? You certainly had no second thoughts using it on 02." Wufei winced at that admission. Even if it had been to help protect Duo's life, he really did do it without his permission. "Besides, the Fly-Z we use now has been modified. It's…safer to use meaning it will either work or not work. There's no death or horrible side effects granted it's nowhere near as strong as the original."

"…Still-"

"And right now if you don't act, your friend will probably die." The seriousness in Treize's face was enough to make him pause. The last thing he wanted was one of his Preventer comrades dying again. He'd experienced it once before. No…not that again.

"…Fine," Wufei said sighing and looking up at him trying to make it look like he was frustrated. "But I'll be the one to inject it into him." He felt his features soften as he stared, eyes darting away suddenly. "Thanks…."

Treize walked over to him and Wufei held out his hand to take the vial from him. The older man handed the vial to him, but he didn't expect him to lean down and kiss his lips. The soft brush of lips made Wufei tense up as he stared up into his eyes drowning in the icy blues staring back at him. It made his heart beat faster seeing the confidence in the other's eyes. He felt like his body was betraying him, his eyes closing as he started to kiss Treize back. He wasn't sure what to do but when he felt Treize's lips moving against his, he started to mimic him, copying his moves learning quickly.

The buzzing from his cellphone startled him making him push Treize back and hop up as he quickly answered it, his eyes forcefully looking away.

"This is Wufei."

"…You sound a little out of breath. Is everything fine?" It was Quatre. He sounded concern in Wufei's ear and the young preventer scooted away from Treize to get his bearings right.

"I'm fine," Wufei said frowning and trying to ignore the reason for why he sounded breathless. "Did something change? You're calling." He really hoped the burning in his cheeks would go away.

"Trowa's checking into something. Seems like they found some maids that heard some of the missing guards saying something weird." There was a pause before he continued. "There's no change with Heero yet. He's really…he looks really messed up, Wufei." He sounded upset about this. "Anyway, I just wanted to let you know. Is Treize still there?"

"…He's sleeping," Wufei said not wanting to explain why he was discussing this while Treize was in the room.

"Alright…we'll I'll let you get back to your rest. I'll let you know if there's any change on this side." Right, Quatre was at the hospital watching over Heero. Wufei thought he could hear the beeping in the background from the monitors.

"Thanks. I'll…let you know if anything changes here too."

"Alright. Bye Wufei." Wufei didn't even say bye in return as he hung up and glanced back seeing Treize staring at him. His whole face went red at the look and he scowled quickly heading over to the closet using any excuse he could to get further away from the male. Could this mission get any weirder?

"We should sneak out tonight," Treize said having an amused smirk on his lips when Wufei looked back at him. He was sitting on the bed looking way more innocent than Wufei was willing to bet. "Use the cover of darkness to hide us." Wufei would have rather left now but there was no rushing it. He'd never be able to escape with how many guards were keeping them on lockdown. And whereas he was planning to go on his own, he didn't miss the way Treize spoke as if he was going too.

"We?"

"I can't let my advisor just run off on his own, now can I?" He got up starting to walk towards Wufei. "Besides, I may have an idea of the organization behind this all." Whatever retort was on Wufei's lips died at that admission as he stared at him feeling the situation turning serious.

"Do you?" Wufei said, voice holding the seriousness. If he needed to infiltrate enemy territory then he would. "Mind telling me who it is then?"

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Duo coughed as he woke up, his body aching all over. He could faintly feel the effects of the Fly-Z working through his body, but it did nothing to cover up the pain his was feeling right now. His head hurt worse than what he imaged a migraine would feel like. His body felt like he'd been kicked and stomped all over. The cough didn't help the aches as the sounds of chains reached his ears.

His eyes took a while to focus as he looked around seeing nothing more in the lowly lit room he was being held captive in. There were chains around his wrists and ankles connecting to the ceiling and the floor respectively as he kneeled there on the ground. He frowned slightly giving them an experimental tug. They didn't even budge. He blamed it in part on that weird sound interfering with the Fly-Z drug circulating in his system. He remembered it from when he'd been on MS13 and from the time when he'd first escaped OZ. But then he assumed from the fact that he walked away from it that time that the Fly-Z in his blood would rejuvenate over time as long as he wasn't killed.

The door opened casting light into the room and making Duo squint his eyes against the brightness. He could vaguely see the outline of the male catching sight of the hat that he'd come to socialize as part of his old friend's wardrobe. He tugged again at the chains listening to them rattle as his glared up at the male stopping in front of him.

"Aren't you so happy to see me again, Duo?"

"Strange, I thought you'd stay buried a little longer under that control tower we dropped on you…01." He grinned up at the male, showing all his teeth despite the menacing look he had on his face. Solo's glowing pink eyes stared down at him as a soft smile lifted to his face.

"Now that's not how you greet an old friend. Didn't you use to call me Solo? In fact, you made your name because of it, right?"

"Solo is dead," Duo said letting the smile drop from his face. He was doing well with ignoring the pain in his head making sure he didn't move himself too much. "The only thing I see standing in front of me is some monster with a hat fetish." Duo laughed tugging harshly on the chains again feeling a bit more of his strength coming back to him. "How does it feel being the lapdog to the people that tortured you as a kid?"

"It feels good, actually," Solo said laughing as well as he reached down with a white glove grabbing Duo's hair and yanking his head back to look at him. "You do realize you're not going to be able to escape from here." He eyes stared down at Duo before they traveled up the chains to the ceiling. "These chains are made of pure Gundanium alloy. It took a lot of work and hard earned money to have these made for you."

"Sorry but they're not my type," Duo said giving another tug before he slouched in defeat. "Maybe you should get a refund."

"A lot of talk for someone who doesn't know who they're dealing with." Duo's body tensed when he felt the needle stabbed into his arm, looking over to see the weird liquid being injected into him. "See, our organization has been interested in you for a while now…a very long while. Turns out you're a special case, the only one to have survived the effects of the original Fly-Z and lived."

"…Not quite getting what you mean, pal," Duo said staring up at him. The stuff was working through his system pushing away the pain he was feeling as he felt his strength returning. It was the same feeling that he'd gotten from Wufei when the other had injected him with the Fly-Z. Was that what Solo just used on him? Wait…but wasn't it a product of OZ? So was he at an OZ base then? "You're here, right? That means I wasn't the only one to survive it."

"No, on the contrary, what you said earlier was right." 01 squatted down in front of him, the tails of his white suit jacket fanning out on the ground behind him. He looked like he was ready to go to a ball with how dressed up he was. "Solo is dead."

"…Figuratively speaking, yeah," Duo said frowning down at him. The Solo he used to know was gone, probably brainwashed by these idiots. But it didn't mean Duo couldn't bring him back, right? "You're standing right in front of me, aren't you?" He gave another tug to the chains, harder this time as he felt his strength returning. Nothing…the chains didn't even budge. Gundanium was really something, wasn't it?

Solo stared up at him then laughed. "It really is something being able to talk to you again." The grin on Solo's lips sent a tingling sensation through Duo's body. "Let me show you what I mean then." Solo tilted his head down slipping the hat from his head. He ignored how Duo was lifting a brow at his actions as he grabbed his hair tugging it up away from his head making the Preventer's eyes widen with surprise.

"What the…?" Granted the room was still dark and he was only able to really see thanks to the light from the door and the low light from the ceiling, he was able to perfectly see the large brain submerged into the giant dome of the mechanical skull. Lights inside glowed round it as it stayed covered in a gel like substance that seemed to keep it in place. Tubes and wires were attached to it keeping it wired into the body before him.

Duo clenched his eyes shut as he looked away, his lips tight as he held himself back from getting sick. What was this? What kind of sick sci-fi joke was this?! He could hear the figure in front of him shifting around as he started to replace the removed items.

"As you just saw, that was the brain belonging to Solo, a.k.a. 01. In a sense, I guess you could say he or I am not dead. While it is not a fully functional brain since it cannot remember all things pertaining to the previous life of 01, it does give me body memory. I am able to think and to react to a situation with ease. Because my body is a machine made from Gundanium, destruction of this new body does not come up as factor. I am simply here as the guiding stone to finding 02, a.k.a….you."

"So Solo really did die that day I escaped," Duo said refusing to look up at him.

"I'm afraid that is false information. Though they did obtain me, or rather my former body during the escape, the use of the Gundanium robots had literally destroyed me, more thanks to that pestering sound they used to weaken us. However, while my body had been destroyed, my body was left unscathed. The Fly-Z they injected into my body did nothing to save my body as they had originally thought it would…but it did protect my brain and kept it alive.

"Through trial and error, they decided to try wiring my brain into this android. They did their best to fashion it after my old body to make my brain feel more at home so to speak. But also to one day meet you and bring you back to us. And well…you know the rest."

"Yeah well as much as I don't care about hearing about your life," Duo said and looked up at him glaring. "Where is Queen Relena? Don't think I don't know that you kidnapped her. I saw one of your goonies with her in the bathroom."

"Shouldn't you worry more about yourself right now?" As soon as the words were said, Duo yelled out hearing the loud buzzing in his ears again. He barely took notice of Solo just standing there unaffected, his hands pulling taunt on the chains trying to get to his ears to block out the painful sound.

His body fell slack when the sound stopped, his breath coming out in loud pants as he struggled to right himself. He felt the blood dripping from his nose, his eyes sluggishly looking up at Solo. "That sound has the ability to weaken the effects of the Fly-Z. Since that's all your blood consists of, you could say it hurts you just as much as it hurts the drugs. See, there's always a reason to have a backup plan of being able to destroy something you create. You wouldn't want it used against you, right?"

Duo felt a sharp pain in his stomach that made his eyes go wide before he coughed, blood spilling from his open lips. He looked down seeing the mechanical hand penetrating his stomach before Solo pulled back letting the blood spill from the open wound.

"Oh dear, I went too far didn't I?" The sinister smirk on Solo's face didn't match the words at all as the pink eyes seemed to only glow brighter. "Sorry, I should learn to control myself when I get excited." He leaned close, resting his lips against Duo's ear while the braided male choked to breath. "But since we have so much of the Fly-Z on board, we can play this game all day long." He bit down hard on the ear making Duo choke out a yell from the pain. "I keep it in a special case so it doesn't get messed up by that sound." He leaned back, blood on his lips before he licked them clean with the realistic human tongue. "I'll have you trained like the perfect lap dog soon. And if you're good, you might get some treats."

Duo didn't say anything, hanging there and panting as he tried to fight off the pain. It wasn't enough to kill him, not with the Fly-Z still partly working inside of him. But it did hurt like all hell. He couldn't ignore the puddle of blood beneath him and he knew it wouldn't be long before he passed out. And yet the only thing he could think about was if Heero and the others were safe. Because if anything ever happened to them…he really didn't know what he'd do.

TBC…..

Yes...hated hurting poor Duo. :pushes sleeves up: But it had to be done. x.x And teasing Wufei...always fun. ^^
