Chapter 36
The Past, Present, and Future
Xenia
I had done it. I had finally accomplished my goals. After eight years of planning, scheming, and doing nothing but working tirelessly for my goals I had done it. I could finally be able to keep the promise I had made so many years ago.
Lucy just stared at him. "After everything I just said, after all the times I told you I didn't want you to have to give up everything, you still do this. Why?"
Loke just smiled at the girl he loved. "Listen love, I really want to do this. Even before you told me you loved me I wanted to do it. I love you so much, and I'm willing to do anything if it means we can be together. Besides, there are downsides to immortality. You have to watch everyone around you live, grow old, and die, while you just stand there never changing. You also have to go through countless masters, and sometimes they're cruel and mean like Karen, other times they're nice and sweet like you. That's always the worst though. Then you have to sit idly by and watch them grow older, and then you're sad when they finally leave. Being a Celestial Spirit is actually quite a painful existence, so I'm glad I'm getting this opportunity. I can live a short, full life with the woman I point.
Being immortal wasn't all it was cracked up to be, it could actually be a pain sometimes. Especially when you care for humans. I knew this all my life, so I made sure to avoid mortals as much as possible. Only one had ever been able to break that wall down, and that wasn't something I enjoyed discussing.
I then smiled at Loke. "Alright then, I'm glad to hear that you've accepted. I promise I will explain more, but first allow me to make a few calls. There are two people that I can't do this without." I said, and walked off into another room. I then used my telepathy to contact Ethan. Ethan, you and Kaylana need to come down here now. The plan is now being enacted. I especially need you here Mr. chosen one. I said, and he gave me a simple 'of course' in reply.
I then walked back to Lucy and Loke. "Well then, let's go." I said.
They looked at me strangely. "Go where?" Lucy asked, confused.
I again smiled. "Well you really don't expect me to do this in a little apartment now do you?"
We stood outside Kardia Cathedral in the center of Magnolia. This place would be perfect, after all there was plenty of open space, giving us enough room to do what we needed to do. There was also nobody around at this time of night, and that helped too.
We waited for about five minutes before I saw Ethan's blonde head running up the nearby street. He made his way over to us, and stood next to me. "Loke, Lucy, I'd like you to meet Ethan. Ethan, meet Loke and Lucy." They shook hands and exchanged formalities quickly, but I soon noticed something was off. "Ethan, where is she? You were supposed to come here together."
He looked at me apologetically. "Of course, Lady Xenia. I told her it was time, but she said she needed to take care of something else first. She promised it would only take a few extra minutes before she would arrive."
I nodded to show that I understood, and not a minute had passed before I saw her black hair shining in the moonlight. It was hard to see her face in the dim light, and I could tell the other two hadn't recognized her yet. I knew that as soon as they saw her face they would get quite a shock, but it sadly couldn't be helped.
"Ah here she is. And in her case I don't believe introductions are necessary, but I do believe an explanation could be considered so." I said, confusing them more. They squinted in the dark, trying to make out the face of the new comer, and as soon as she passed a nearby street lamp I could tell they knew. I knew they recognized Kaylana's pale face and deep blue eyes.
Kaylana walked up, and I could see bits of confusion in their faces, which also contained twinges of hurt and anger. "Now, I know you are surprised to see her and learn she was working for me this entire time, but please allow me to explain. The reason Kaylana didn't tell you about me was because she actually didn't remember herself. Before I sent her to your guild, she actually asked to have her memories erased so that she could try and get you all to like her without trying to force you to like her. She has wanted to join a guild for quite some time now, and I was finally able to grant that request by sending her here. Which reminds me, Kaylana, due to the fantastic job you have done for me here, you have now completed your years of service and are now free to live out your lie however you want, meaning you can remain in your guild if you wish." I hoped they would forgive Kaylana. I tried to pin the blame mostly on me so they wouldn't blame her, but who knew with these Fairy Tail mages.
I looked at the pair and saw Lucy understood, but there was still doubt in Loke's expression. "What do you mean by years of service?" He asked.
I was about to jump in to explain, but Kaylana beat me to it. "A long time ago I made a deal with Xenia. She would teach me any kind of magic I wanted to learn, as well as a free, full life wherever I wanted it, but in exchange I'd work for her a little while. I accepted. That was about five years ago now." She said, and honestly I couldn't have said it any better. I was the one who gave her magic, and she worked for me for five years. It was a fair trade.
Loke still looked a little annoyed, but he said "So, are we gonna do this or not."
I smiled. "I thought you wanted to know how I'm able to do it in the first place. Isn't that what you said?" I asked, taunting him just a little. He mumbled soothing that I took as an 'okay' and started to explain it to him.
"Well I discovered the secret a little while ago actually. It's actually quite a simple concept, believe it or not. Basically all you need is a spirit who's willing to give up their immortality and a human who's willing to give up their humanity. Does that make sense?" They nodded, and I continued explaining. "You are familiar to the changeling spell, right? Well in some senses it is similar to that." They looked a little confused, although I could see Lucy started to figure it out. "All I have to do is preform this spell and immediately the Sprit's immortality is swapped for the other person's mortality, making the spirit human and the human a spirit. Does this make sense?"
I could tell they understood, but I saw Lucy still had something bothering her. It was written all over her face. "There's one thing you didn't tell us." She said. "If Loke has to swap with someone, than who's he swapping with?"
I smiled. I admired Lucy's intelligence. At least she was able to pick up on things and ask all the important questions. "Well, that's what I need Ethan here for actually. He's the one swapping powers." Everyone then turned to look at Ethan, who in turn started to get a trace of pink across his cheeks. "I had chosen him for this long ago, and I do believe he's ready to take on the responsibility. Lucy, that also means that Ethan will be the new Leo the Lion, and therefore your new spirit." This made her slightly uncomfortable o say the least, but I could tell she would be able to put up with it if it meant being with Loke.
"Well then, if there are no more questions, we should begin. Any objections?" There were none, so I eagerly began. "Kaylana, come here." She did as she was told, and I gave her the last order I would ever give as her master. "Kaylana, tell these two what you had seen in your vision."
She looked up at me and gave a small nod to show she understood, and then turned to face the others. "It was the day I joined Fairy Tail. I was in the master's office, and I got the earsplitting headache that signals one of my visions. In it, I saw you two, standing right here, and all of a sudden a bright golden light left Loke's body, and was replaced by a duller yellow one. Lucy and you then embraced, and then it ended. I guess now you understand why I was so shocked the first day I met you, Loke."
I could see realization cross their faces, and I knew all the little pieces had finally clicked in their minds. I then decided it was time to start the ritual. "Well, now that you know everything, it's time we begun. Loke, Ethan, come a little closer." They inched closer to me, standing only a few feet from each other. I then started to mumble the incantation under my breath. "Tó̱ra afí̱ste af̱tés tis dýo psychés antalláxoun théseis, étsi ó̱ste to pnév̱ma tous boreí na eínai eléf̱theroi na zoun o̱s epithymía!" And everything Kaylana had described started to become true. A bright, shining golden light appeared from inside Loke, and switched with a slightly duller yellow light that came out of Ethan. The lights soon vanished inside the correct person's bodies, and then the square again became dark.
I soon arrived back home, exhausted from my long day. I can't believe it. I lied down on my bed, too lazy to change or anything like that. I looked at the picture on my bedside table and smiled. "Well Lee, I did it. I kept my promise." I told it, hoping he could somehow hear me. "I finally granted our son's one wish, though he still doesn't know who his parents are. No one does." I smiled again, truly happy for the first time in what seemed like forever. "Ethan, I'm so glad I was finally able to give you the immortality you so craved."
