A/N: The article has been written and is on its way to be published and distributed to the students of Ouran High School. Before I show you the reaction from everyone else, I thought it best to break the news to the trouble making trio of the Host Club. Ok, be prepared for some angst in this chapter. Enjoy!
PS… Due to the popularity of #100 on the story 101 Uses For A Shinai, I have decided to write a little chapter for that. There is a poll up on my page and you can pick up to 2 people. Who do you want to see waving around a shinai in his underwear? If you do not have a FF account, you can always put it in the reviews since I do allow guest reviews. The choice is yours.
Chapter 38 – Revelation Amongst the Hosts
Tamaki and the twins could not figure out why Kyoya called an emergency Host Club meeting on a Sunday. It was weird to be sure and that fact that the president himself knew nothing, it was more than a little strange.
As all of the hosts gathered in Kyoya's room at his mansion, the trio that was still in the dark tried to see if anyone knew what the meeting was about, but everyone played the dumb card. They all pretended not to know what was going on.
The last to arrive was Mori since he had kendo practice that morning, but as soon as the door was closed, Kyoya cleared his throat and adjusted his glasses, "I have called this emergency meeting of the Host Club to let you inform you of an article that will appear in tomorrow's issue of the Ouran Gazette."
"What have they done now?" Hikaru stood up demanding.
"Kyoya-senpai, we thought they changed their ways," Kaoru growled.
Chuckling, Kyoya inquired, "What makes you assume it is a bad article or one that did not have the full backing of the Host Club?"
"Mommy, if you called us here in an emergency meeting, what other type of article could it be?" Tamaki whined.
The Shadow King narrowed his eyes and smiled, shaking his head, "A very different type of article. This is why you three keep getting into trouble… you keep assuming things and they are 9 times out of 10 completely wrong."
"That isn't true!" Hikaru and Tamaki stressed at the same time.
The other hosts raised their brows at the fact that it was Tamaki and Hikaru talking at the same time and Kaoru remained seated. He didn't even attempt to deny the fact, it appeared at least one of the twins was learning.
"Shall we recap?" Kyoya questioned, "There was the engagement between Hunny-senpai and Haruhi, Haruhi's pregnancy, you accusing Yasuchika of putting Haruhi under a spell, accusing Haruhi of cheating on Yasuchika with Nekozawa-senpai… and the list goes on and on and on."
"Well, it just appeared to us…" Hikaru tried to start, but really there was no explanation to his behavior. He gazed at Haruhi out of the corner of his eye and felt like the worst jerk, but he wasn't quite ready to admit that yet.
Pushing up his glasses, the Shadow King rolled his eyes, "And that is where the problem lies. It appeared, but you never asked. You just accused. However, that is not why we are here today. The newspaper article that will be released tomorrow has the full backing of this club."
"Tono?" The twins asked simultaneously.
Tamaki shrugged and shook his head, "I don't know anything about an article. Mommy?"
"You three really are morons," Chika grumbled and then was whacked in the head by a wooden shinai, "Satoshi!"
"At least he missed me," Haruhi muttered to herself and grabbed her boyfriend's arm, "Chika, sit down." She palmed his cheek and gave him a small kiss, "You are alright and right now I would like to get this meeting over with. Ok?"
Sighing, Chika nodded and returned her kiss, "Alright." He turned to his cousin, "Later."
Satoshi laughed, "I look forward to it."
Kaoru hoped that Hikaru was seeing the evidence of why Haruhi and Chika belonged to each other for himself, but he just didn't know if his brother ever would. It was more than apparent to him and many of the others in the room, well at least now it was, that the couple was happy and loved each other. They could support each other and calm the other down like no one else.
Unknown to his brother, Hikaru did observe the exchange between Chika and Haruhi closely and he noticed how she was able to settle him; and if he was honest, he didn't think that was even a possibility by anyone. Maybe they did belong together… maybe.
"If we can please continue," Kyoya pushed his glasses up and produced a folder, "Now, as I was saying, this club fully backs the nature of this article. I have it available here for your perusal. However, I need to tell you how this article came about first. There was a reporter that decided to do an article on Haruhi and it presented her in a very unfavorable light. I also have a copy of the original article. The reporter is not interested in the truth and is only interested in lies. Tamaki, I warn you, you will not like what you are about to read, and I ask you not to say anything to Kameko. If you can't do it, leave now."
Confused as to why his best friend would say that, Tamaki shook his head, "I will stay. I can keep a secret."
"When I found out about the nefarious workings of Kameko, I had her put under surveillance. As soon as I knew she was writing the article, I approached Haruhi and Chika about doing an interview with the editor to set the record straight. They both agreed and I discussed the interview with the editor of the newspaper who readily agreed. The interview was conducted last week and the replacement article is what was sent to the printers. The original lists quotes from four sources: me, Tamaki, Chika, and Satoshi. I am sorry to say that Kameko has a habit of writing articles that are full of false information for the purpose of removing anyone she feels is a threat."
"This… this can't be," Tamaki croaked. His voice sounded weak to his own ears.
The last thing Kyoya wanted to do was to hurt his best friend, but it was best he found out now instead of later, "I'm sorry Tamaki, but I do have proof. I am not just accusing her without support. These are not crazy assumptions, they are the truth."
"What… what proof could you possibly have?"
The Shadow King had been prepared for that question, and he had everything ready. As soon as they discussed the article and the reason for it, Kyoya knew he would have to explain fully and with as volatile as Tamaki was sometimes, he wasn't sure how he was going to take it. Presenting all of the proof he had in regards to the article and Kameko, everyone in the room was shocked. It was so much more than even the hosts in the know actually knew about. Then the original article was presented to everyone to read and they were all disgusted by what their eyes were bearing witness to.
When Kyoya passed out the new article and the one that would actually be published Tamaki was more than shell shocked, he was flabbergasted. How had one girl caused so much trouble? He couldn't refute the proof that was given to him in black and white, or what he heard with his own ears. Everything was real… it was all true, and he had been nothing more than a lowly pawn in her scheme. All of the feelings of love and desire had been nothing more than a love potion that had actually worked. She didn't care about him, and he should never have expected someone to actually fall for him. It seemed as if he kept falling for the wrong girls, and this time it had almost cost Haruhi her future. He wouldn't make the same mistake again, "Haruhi, I am so sorry, for everything."
"It's ok senpai. I should be used to you by now," Haruhi replied, but her heart was breaking for her friend. She could see the hurt and pain he was in at the moment, "This was not your fault."
"She's right Tamaki-senpai. You couldn't have known that Kameko would do something like this. This is on her, not you," Chika added; he may not exactly like the blond president, but he wasn't going to kick someone when they were already down. It was more than apparent that the founder of the club was attempting to blame himself for everything that happened, and this time around he held no blame. There was no way to control Kameko and her usage of Tamaki.
Running his hands through his hair, Tamaki nodded, "Thank you. If you will excuse me, I am just going to go splash some water on my face." He quietly got up and went into Kyoya's ensuite bathroom where he slid to the floor and started to cry.
"Kyoya-senpai, do you think he will be alright?" Kaoru asked staring at the direction Tamaki disappeared.
The vice president sighed, "With time he will be, but I think somewhere in the middle of the love potion, even if he is still under the influence, he did like her. She just isn't the girl he thought she was though."
Haruhi watched everything and she wanted to help her friend, but she didn't know how. There was something inside her that had agreed with her bespectacled friend, and that meant he was heart-broken. She just wasn't sure how to help him. Kissing Chika on the cheek, she whispered, "I'll be right back."
Nodding, Chika knew she was going to try to talk to Tamaki and smiled slightly, "Alright. Do you want me to go with you?"
"No, I think I got it from here," the female host responded and got up to walk to the bathroom. Knocking on the door, she tried the door handle and found it was locked, but she didn't hear the water running… she thought she heard some sobs though, "Tamaki-senpai, please open up. I want to talk." She didn't get any kind of response and pleaded, "Please. No one else is with me. Open up." The only indication that he was complying was the click of the lock telling her that she could enter the oversized bathroom.
"What do you want?" Tamaki asked sadly.
Haruhi shook her head and pulled her friend into a hug surprising the other teen, "You deserve so much better than her and one of these days you are going to find it. She is a bitch and a liar, and you are a good man… a bit overzealous and you have a daddy complex, but you are still a good man regardless of what has happened to you in the past. You have overcome separation from your mother, your grandmother's animosity, and everything else you have had to endure. You didn't deserve this and it was not your fault. That article, her doing this to you, none of it was your fault Tamaki-senpai. She is a girl who thinks she can get away with doing this to innocent people and we are going to teach her she can't do this to us or anyone else. I'm sorry this happened and that she did this to you."
Smiling slightly as he wrapped his arms around Haruhi in what might be one of the very few normal hugs he has given her; Tamaki spoke softly, "Thank you Haruhi. I should have known better, but I was so caught up… Well, you don't have to worry about me saying anything to her. She needs to learn that the Host Club is a family and we support each other."
It didn't take a genius to see that he was trying to be strong for his make believe family and that he was smiling through the pain, but she could also see the spark in his eyes that made Tamaki who he was. He overcame adversity and had to face a lot in his young life. He built himself a life and a "family" of friends to support him and be there for him when no one else really was. She admired him and there was that part of her that truly understood him. If he would have asked before Chika, who knows how things would have turned out, but in Chika she had found her soul mate and she didn't think she would have been able to say the same thing about Tamaki. He was a great friend, but if they were dating, she would have likely murdered him along the way, and then claimed temporary insanity. "We are a family and we do stick by each other even when members of this 'family' are acting like idiots."
Tamaki knew exactly what she meant and chuckled a little, "I guess we have gone overboard again. He really does bring out something in you that I have never seen before, and I don't think I have ever seen Yasuchika stop midstride of fighting with someone to listen to someone else."
"You will also notice that he hasn't fought Hunny-senpai since they have been here."
"No, he hasn't. You are good for him. I'm sorry for everything we have done. I just…" he paused not sure knowing exactly what he wanted to say.
"I know Tamaki-senpai. I just hope this time you really learned your lesson. I really don't think I can take more assumptions from you and your cohorts."
Tamaki sighed, "I know. I messed up so many things."
"No, you didn't mess up. Kameko messed up when she decided to attack this club and make you a victim. I am not going to let her get away with it and neither are any of the others."
"Thank you, again. Look, I will be out in a minute. I just want to wash my face and stuff."
Nodding, Haruhi gave him a small kiss on the cheek and whispered, "We are going to help you through this and hopefully with the antidote in your system, it will help." She stepped back and gave him one last look before walking out of the bathroom and rejoining the others. They were all looking at her with questions in their eyes, but she just shook her head, "It is just hard right now. He will be ok though."
"Indeed he will. While you were in the bathroom with Tamaki, everyone here has agreed to the plan. Tomorrow morning, I am meeting with the editor and Kameko in the newspaper room. The paper goes on sale tomorrow morning and I have Ukyou's agreement to hold off on distributing the newspaper until thirty minutes before first period instead of an hour before. Kameko should be in the newspaper room about forty-five minutes before the start of class since he told her that he wanted to meet with her first thing in the morning about an exclusive expose. What she doesn't know is that it will be about her. All of you are more than welcome to join in the meeting, but I do recommend that you
wait until after she enters the room so that she doesn't try to bolt," Kyoya explained.
"I think it is best if we are all there," Tamaki announced coming out of the bathroom, "She needs to know we are a team and we stand beside each other."
"No, she needs to know we are a family, Tama-Chan," Hunny smiled and everyone nodded their heads in agreement.
What had started out as a haphazard club full of members who joined for various reasons, had truly become a group of best friends who will do whatever they can to help one another. Kameko had declared war on the wrong people and now she was about to pay for it. Last year's staff had learned not to mess with the Ouran Host Club, and now she was going to learn that very lesson herself.
