Outtake Thirty-Eight: Conquered Conqueror
Game: Awakening
Spoilers: the chapter "The Sword or the Knee"
Summary: Why do all the baddies go after the ones who look weak? Emphasis on look. Just because they look weak doesn't mean they can't kill the baddie in a single strike. Walhart learns this lesson the hard way.
Note: I swear, everyone picks on Lissa, Ricken, or Maribelle, even if the two healers can protect themselves. It usually ends with the attacker dead. This particular scenario happened on my latest play through with Silver. I also don't name Chrom's wife because I felt like it could be in either Silver's dimension or Nyk's.
Enjoy!
Chrom was a certain match for Walhart. The princeling sure knew how to fight well, and he was strong. Not as strong as the Conqueror was, but strong enough to possibly defeat him. Walhart glanced about his cavernous throne room, and spotted the princeling's sister further back, but rather undefended. He smirked, but immediately gasped as Chrom's blade hit his side. A grunt was torn from his lips. "Had enough?" Chrom demanded. "Surrender and I'll spare your life and those of your soldiers."
"I will not bow to you!" Walhart boomed. He charged Chrom and swung as hard as he could, knocking the princeling off balance. Instead of taking the initiative and following up with a death blow, Walhart turned his horse abruptly, kicking it to a charge at Chrom's sister. The girl didn't even have time to dodge.
Lissa cried out in pain, stumbling backward out of Walhart's range. She pressed a hand to her chest and felt her blood seeping from the wound faster than she would have liked. She glanced up and saw Chrom running toward her, his wife only a few steps behind him. Lissa's own husband was coming closer as well, calling out to her.
Lissa gripped her tome tighter and looked up at Walhart defiantly. The Conqueror looked taken aback at her fierce expression and kicked his horse into a charge once more. A single strike would certainly kill the Sage, but Lissa wouldn't have it. She readied her tome and mustered every bit of strength she had. "I may surprise you!" she exclaimed as she released the Bolganone spell. Walhart was hit dead-on. His horse tripped and tumbled, nearly knocking into Lissa. Both horse and rider hit the ground with a massive thud and clanking of armor. Walhart gave a weak attempt to push himself up, but he collapsed quickly, clearly dead or dying.
Lissa sighed. "Well, that's that." She promptly collapsed.
She woke hours later to her concerned husband, son, brother, and best friend. "Oh, thank the gods," Frederick said, seeing his wife wake. Her family crowded around her.
"Lissa, my treasure, how are you feeling?" Maribelle asked.
"Better than before," the Sage replied. "Brother, is the war over?"
"Yes, thanks to you," Chrom replied, obviously proud of his little sister.
Lissa sat up gingerly. "So we can go home?"
"Yes."
Author's note: Short chapter is short. And I swear, that one event tile in Walhart's range is bait for the Shepherds and Walhart is the trapper. My most recent time through I wanted Lucina and Nyk to take down the conqueror, but had Morgan and Laurent on the event tile. Who does Walhart attack? Not Nyk and Lucina. This is also why he went for Lissa instead of Chrom, because Lissa was on the frikkin' event tile...
Anyway, I wanted to thank everyone for their support in regards to the multi-chapter FE fic. I've decided I will write it, but it's gonna be a bit. I want to finish a Legend of Zelda fic (that has half a chapter left for me to write) and I may or may not outline the story itself. In any case, I will let you all know when I post it! Happy November!
