The Best Birthday Present

"PERCY!" somebody shouted, waking me up. "Hurry up or else we'll be the last ones to the beach."

Then I remembered today, was my birthday and to celebrate it we decided to have a party at the beach Jason, Piper, Nico, Rachael, Frank, Hazel, Reyna and Leo. A few more would be joining us later including, Grover, Clarisse (for some reason), the Stolls, Thalia and Silena, who were all going to bring their significant others.

"I'm coming!" I shouted as I crawled out of bed. I grabbed a shirt and changed into some swim trunks, I got an extra bag of clothes and headed down to where I saw Annabeth.

"Finally Seaweed Brain, what took you so long?" Annabeth greeted me 'nicely'. She was sitting on the couch with my mother, oh I hope she didn't show her the baby pictures. "Your mother was just showing me your baby pictures."

"Great," I muttered. "Mom we're going now, I'll see you later at the beach okay? Later dad, runt."

"Don't forget about Paul," Tyson added.

"Goodbye Paul. Let's go Annabeth."

"Whatever, thanks again for the baby pictures Mrs- I mean Sally," Annabeth bid goodbye while grabbed her book.

Annabeth and I headed to Blackjack and then towards the beach.

"Percy, turn that off, I'm reading." But instead of letting me close it, she just slammed the radiot off.

"Hey, I was listening to that."

"And I'm reading, now drive." So I listened. There's no point of even trying to win in a fight with Annabeth unless you're Athena or maybe a spider.

After driving for who knows how long we finally arrived at Montauk and we happened to arrive at the same time as everyone else.

"Hey guys," I greeted everyone. "So who brought what?"

"I got the volleyball," Piper said.

"I got the disc," Jason said.

"I got food and fire," yelled Leo. "Frank's carrying them now."

"Nico and I got umbrellas," Hazel said.

"I got drinks," Annabeth and Reyna both said.

"And I got the blue dye."

Under Annabeth's command everything was set up in a record time. Just as we finished everyone else arrived. Beckendorf and Silena also brought this 'Start Your Own Bonfire' thing which they wanted to do.

I ended up playing ultimate with Jason, Annabeth, Thalia, Luke and Nico. It was Jason, Nico and I against Annabeth, Thalia and Luke. It was sad to say that we were losing but it was fun.

I glanced over to see Frank, Hazel, Leo and Rachael playing volleyball against Silena, Beckendorf and the Stolls. I think Katie and Lou were referring but I couldn't confirm because at that moment I got a disc to the face.

"Oh come on guys, stop laughing at me already," I pouted.

"Percy keep the ice on your forehead," Annabeth yelled at me, while trying to hold in her laughter.

"Come on birthday boy, stop mumbling and open your present from me already," Leo threw a box towards me.

"Thanks Leo, but what is it?" I asked, holding his gift up.

"It's for your car. An upgrade if you will," Leo gave me his I'm-a-mechanic-just-trust-me look.

"Cool thanks."

I ended up getting a gift card to Swimmers Paradise thanks to Piper. Jason got me a study package for math, which will probably come into use. Reyna got me a new swim bag. Nico got me a black saddle for Blackjack for when we head up the cottage later. Rachael gave me this painting of all of us together smiling. Hazel got me this gold watch but was hard for me to take but I ended up taking it. Frank got me two tickets for the zoo, which made me think of Annabeth, who made me blush. At this point, the others arrived and brought their presents too. Silena made me this hoodie that said Swim to Win which was really comfy and soft. The Stolls got me this coupon book of pranks which went from 'Free prank on anyone' to '25% off prank supplies'. Katie got me this flower to liven up my dorm room and Lou got me tickets to a magic show. Thalia and Luke got me a freebie, giving me the day off and didn't hurt me for what I had done to Annabeth. Chris even got Clarisse to get me something. She took the box, whipped it at me then called me something that I couldn't really remember.

Everyone else left to do some activity leaving only Annabeth and I.

"Yeah, yeah Seaweed Brain, I'll get you your present," she said before heading off. I wonder how she knew what I was going to say.

I sat by the picnic bench enjoying the sunset as I waited.

"Here, happy birthday," she brought me this giant blue cupcake with a candle. I don't know why, but at that moment I remembered Piper's 'pep-talk' about finally making a move on Annabeth. I wanted to tell her on her birthday last month, but she was with family and it didn't seem right to interrupt.

I found myself staring at her with was stupid because I've seen her a million times still, she seemed much more mature. It was kind of intimidating I mean sure, she'd always been cute but she was starting to be seriously beautiful. It only took me this long to recognize it.

"Hey Annabeth, you look awfully pretty," I told her, blushing at the same time.

She turned at me, took a piece of my birthday cupcake and laughed. "Seaweed Brain, that's an oxymoron."

"An ox boron?"

"No an oxymoron, it means that the two words contradict."

"Gods you just had to ruin the moment." I found myself blushing when I said moment.

"What were you saying?"

"I said that you look pretty."

"You don't look so bad yourself Seaweed Brain."

I took and deep breath and finally spoke. "That wasn't what I wanted to say. I mean it's true and you look beautiful but it's not what I wanted to tell you." I found myself rambling. "Annabeth look what I'm trying to say is, you've been my fake girlfriend since high school, now will you be my real one?"

I looked at Annabeth and she for a moment looked shocked then next thing I know she's clutching her stomach trying to not laugh.

"You aren't making this easy for me."

"I thought I told you when we first started rooming together that I'll never, ever make things easy for you Seaweed Brain, get used to it."

"Finally," someone, Clarisse shouted. "Everyone grab a lovebird, they need to cool off."

Next thing I realize is that I'm being lifted like a pillow case then tossed into the ocean with Annabeth.

I gave her a kiss underwater but that didn't turn out so well seeing as we needed to breath. When we came up, we ran towards everyone chasing them.

My family came later and we started this huge bonfire. I got sung to a very out of tune Happy Birthday but it's was amazing.

I ended up driving Annabeth back to her house and the whole time we held hands, which probably wasn't the safest driving choice. Out of habit I turned on the radio again and turns out it was the exact song that I never got to finish hearing earlier.

"Sorry," I said. "I'll turn it off."

"No it's okay, you know that song is starting to rub off on me."

"Yeah."

"Happy birthday Percy."

Having Annabeth as my girlfriend is definitely the best birthday present I could ever have.
