Chapter Thirty Eight

"This week guys, since I have heard many of the girls want to do Michael but didn't have the opportunity to do so at sectional, we are going to have a week of the king of pop himself, Mr Michael Jackson." Mr Shue informed his glee club, which caused no end of excitement in the majority of the group.

Blaine was really excited, he loved Michael Jackson and he was going to try out some new numbers if he could, ones that he didn't get to do last time around. He was, nevertheless, also getting a little anxious. It was around this time when Sebastian had almost blinded him and he couldn't help but be a little skittish at the thought of those events taking place again. The surgery had been terrifying and emotionally scarring. Something that Blaine would never forget in his lifetime. He knew he shouldn't be worried because Nick was the captain of the Warblers now, and not Sebastian, but Blaine couldn't help the little niggling feeling in the back of his mind that told him to take care because anything could still happen. Just because he had changed some things didn't necessarily change everything and Sebastian still hadn't quite given up in flirting with Blaine. The lean boy had messaged him on Facebook until Blaine had blocked Sebastian from his page. He had managed to get Blaine's mobile number as well, and was texting him all sorts of inappropriate things. Things that Blaine had had to delete because there was no way that he wanted Kurt to see them. They had made Blaine get indignant, let alone Kurt.

Blaine decided that he would try and put all the previous events in the back of his mind and just try and enjoy this week. Santana was on his side and was even going as far as helping him. Sam, Nick and Jeff were all on side and he was in a great place with Kurt for now, although he still wanted to show Kurt that he was worthy of his love. He decided that staying this way couldn't be all bad, for now anyway. Later on he could concentrate on sorting out this whole future problem, but he needed to think about the here and now first.

As the member of New Directions discussed excitedly between them all what songs they could sing this week, Blaine felt his phone vibrate in his jeans pocket. As he took it out he could see that it was Nick calling. Smiling, Blaine pressed the button to take the call.

"Hey Blainey! How are you?" Nick and Jeff shouted through the phone together, which made the dark haired boy smile.

"Good thanks. You?"

"Yep. Everything's all go here. We're thinking about what songs to sing for regionals already. Of which we are competing against each other. Why didn't you tell me?" Nick whined a little over the phone at his old friend, chastising him for not informing him sooner.

"Because Nick, does it really matter? I mean, its just show choir right?" Blaine tried to brush him off, not wanting to disappoint his friends in any way.

"We totally lose, don't we?"

"Umm. Kinda, yeah. Sorry." Blaine winced into the phone, making his apology sound as sincere as possible, because he did really care for the Warbler boys very deeply. They had taken him in when he had felt lost and led him back to the path. The path in which he had met Kurt.

"Ah well. It'll be fun anyway right?" Nick told his friend, not sounding too upset, only a little disappointed. Blaine wished there was a way for them both to win, but unfortunately there wasn't.

"Right."

"Don't forget to come visit us as well. We need updates Mr Anderson."

Blaine laughed loudly. "Ok, ok. I'll swing by soon and see you."

"Good. Make sure you do. I need to know what happened on your Christmas vacation. I bet it was really romantic. The fire, the lake, the wilderness..." Nick sighed as he imagined it all, wishing it had been himself and Jeff. "Anyway, see you soon."

"See ya!" Blaine pressed to end the call, grinning broadly.

"Who was that?" Kurt asked, nosily sidling up to his boyfriend and looking over his shoulder at his phone.

"Nick. He wanted to know if we knew we were competing against each other at regionals."

"Yeah, it's too bad right? I really like Nick, and most of the Warblers." Kurt genuinely looked upset at the thought of competing against their old group from last year.

"Well, I don't think it'll affect our friendship in any way. Nick didn't seem too bothered." Blaine told Kurt, cheering him up a little.

"That's good cause we are totally going to crush them. Whether they are our friends or not. They do know that right? Because we are winning this year. No matter what." Kurt dramatically replied using his hands to put across his feelings.

"No matter what." Blaine replied beaming at Kurt, taking his hand in his own and turning to listen to Rachel drone on about which song she was going to sing, even though she didn't understand the whole Michael Jackson thing. All Blaine could do was roll his eyes at Sam, who started sniggering, causing Rachel to get huffy with him and turn her back to Sam altogether and carry on in her unending prattling, which Blaine decided to just tune out entirely.

Kurt was packing the books he needed to take home with him, placing them gently into his satchel. He mused about his lover whilst packing. Blaine had seemed more relaxed and happy since they went away at Christmas, which pleased Kurt. He had always felt that Blaine had not really made too many friends among the New Directions but recently he seemed to be fitting in well. Kurt had been watching Blaine interact with the other members of New Directions since he noticed the cosy talk between Blaine and Santana, and he had begun to notice little things that he had missed before. Like the fact that Blaine and Sam seemed to talk their own language, as though they both had a big secret that no one else was in on and Kurt didn't like it one bit. Tina was even occasionally in this secret group of which Kurt knew nothing about. He hated being out of the loop. Not knowing everything. Kurt was mulling over whether to have a talk with either or both of the boys about it, and see what was going on. Especially since Santana had suddenly joined this group. That was the most confounded thing of all. Santana, who generally shied away from anything to do with men, especially Sam and usually Blaine. He was closing his locker when he heard a familiar, but unwelcome voice behind him.

"Fancy seeing you here, lady face." Sebastian leaned against the lockers on his left, smirking down at Kurt as he spoke.

"I go to school here. The bigger question is what are you doing here Sebastian?" Kurt raised his eyebrow at the boy, not looking amused. He quickened his pace, shoving the things he needed into his satchel and snapping it closed before pulling his locker closed with a slam.

"Well, you see, the thing is, we are competing at regionals and I really think that you aught to tell all of your Lost Directions that the Warblers are going to win this thing. Also, tell Blaine that I'm available. Any time." Sebastian made a rude gesture with his tongue that caused Kurt's nose to wrinkle up in disgust and scoff in Sebastian's direction. He really disliked this boy. Not only would he not leave his boyfriend alone, now he was coming to there school to make their lives more difficult.

"As if. We are going to kick your sorry behind meerkat face and leave you weeping desperately into your coffee with 'courvoisier' in it." Kurt motioned quotation marks in the air at the mention of the liqueur that Sebastian supposedly used in his coffee in France.

Sebastian frowned at this reference, looking a little puzzled. He was pretty sure that he had never mentioned that to Kurt Hummel. "How the hell did you know that?"

"Please Sebastian, Blaine told me. We tell each other everything. We have no secrets." Well, almost everything, but Sebastian doesn't need to know that...

"I've never told Blaine that either."

"You know what, who cares? So scurry along were all the other cockroaches go to sleep." Kurt dramatically waved his hand to dismiss the boy and started to walk away.

"Oooh, good one. That really hurt me." Kurt stopped and sighed. Why did this guy have to keep bugging him and Blaine? Seriously, he just could not take a hint. Kurt saw that Blaine was jogging down the corridor when he spotted Sebastian talking to Kurt, towards the boys in an attempt to get Kurt away from the tall Warbler.

"Sebastian, what are you doing here?" Blaine questioned the lean boy as he came up towards the two of them, crossing his arms in a defensive position and standing a little in front of Kurt so he was not directly in the line of fire. This is not good. He hadn't come to McKinley like this last time. Blaine began to go on full alert, not able to relinquish his suspicions about Sebastian and what he might be here to do.

"Hey sexy. Wanna get out of here?" Sebastian asked Blaine, completely ignoring Kurt's furious glare from behind the shorter boy.

"Not with you."

"Fair enough." Blaine nudged Kurt to start walking away from Sebastian to go home. Hoping against hopes that that would be the end of it all.

"Oh, Kurt, I forgot. I have a present for you." Sebastian reached into the bag he had been holding, and Blaine, seeing this, his eyes widening in recognition, dragged Kurt behind him as he turned around and ducked both of their heads down, Blaine keeping his eyes shut tight. A second later he felt the cool, stickiness of the slushie that he had flung at Kurt dribbling fully down his back. Blaine, panic stricken, cupped his lovers face in his hands and looked intently into his aqua eyes.

"You ok Kurt?" Blaine asked, breathing heavily, searching Kurt's face thoroughly to see if he was injured in any way.

"Yeah. Apart from random parts of me being soaked in slushie." He shook his arm that had gotten covered in the red, sticky, iced gloop. Blaine breathed out an audible sigh in relief. Although his back was dripping wet and his clothes were sticking to him in a sodden mess, he had managed to avoid getting any of it in his eye. He had been so worried that either himself or Kurt would get hurt from Sebastian's slushie attack that he was standing, gripping Kurt's clothes tightly, shaking in his arms. Sebastian in the mean time had scowled dramatically and stormed off, his plan left in tatters.

Kurt ignored the Warbler and focused on his Blaine, who's whole body appeared to be shaking under his touch. "Sweetie, you're shaking. Let's get you some new clothes and get you cleaned and warmed up, hmm." Kurt soothingly replied. Although Blaine was cold, he wasn't shaking due to the cold, but the relief of it all being over and no one being hurt. Kurt wrapped his arm around Blaine's sodden waist, not caring about the cold or wet at all, only wanting to make sure that the man he loved was taken care of. Blaine gratefully leant into Kurt, allowing Kurt to lead him to the boys locker room and sort him out.

Kurt was incensed. How dare Sebastian come to their school and play a prank like that on them, a prank that could have hurt either one of them? When he had washed Blaine off in a hot shower, it had become apparent to him that their was more in the slushie than just coloured ice. Their appeared to be tiny rocks or something else like that. Blaine, through his shivers, had suggested that it was probably rock salt. Thankfully Blaine's back had taken the brunt of it, but, and Kurt could not even contemplate this, what if it had gotten into either one of their eyes? They could have been blinded. Kurt couldn't believe how selfish and cruel Sebastian could be. So much so that he decided to do something about it. He knew that the slushie was meant for him, but no one hurt his boyfriend. No one. Blaine had been shivering for almost an hour after the slushie incident and his lips had started to go blue, even after Kurt had plied him with about three layers of jumpers to put on top of his own cardigan and long sleeved shirt.

After having taken the boy home, his hair curling widely now out of the gel encasement, making him look very small and young, and putting him under the covers of his bed, Kurt had gone down to Blaine's kitchen in order to make a hot chocolate for him. One with extra marsh mellows. What he hadn't told his boyfriend was that he was going to phone an old friend to sort out Sebastian, and if that didn't work there was always Santana...

Picking up his phone, he dialled the number and waited, trying to calm himself down by breathing slowly in through his nose and out through his mouth whilst counting to ten. As Kurt had gotten older he had learnt that this was the best way to deal with bullies. If you didn't react to them, then they didn't get a rise out of you, and it generally was a waste of their time as the whole point of bullying was to get a reaction from the person you were bullying.

"Hello? Kurt?"

"Hey Nick, I need to talk to you about something." Kurt asked the boy politely. He needed the help of his friend but didn't really know how to go about getting it now that he was on the phone. He sat down on one of the Anderson's breakfast bar stools hoping that Nick would know what to do to Sebastian to punish him for what he had done.

"Sure! How are you? We haven't seen you in like, forever! Jeff is saying he wants a Kurtsie hug soon." Kurt chuckled and promised he would come and visit soon so he could give Jeff a hug. His voice sobered up when he got back to the topic at hand and Nick noticed the change in tone to one of a much more serious nature.

"I'm fine, but Blaine's not."

"What? What's wrong with Blaine?" Nick asked, suddenly all senses on alert. Blaine had already been through enough, having gotten Kurt and losing him, to gain him back again and trying to keep him. Nick knew he already had a hard enough time as it was without any added stress.

"Oh, I don't know, maybe a certain criminal chipmunk Warbler with a meerkat face coming to McKinley and then throwing a slushie with extra stuff in it onto the both of us, probably rock salt or rocks of some kind. It mainly hit Blaine because he dived in front of me. He's freezing Nick. It was literally all over his back. It was nearly two hours ago and he's still shivering. If that stuff had gotten into our eyes Nick, I dread to think what could have happened." Kurt almost sobbed at the thought of Blaine laying injured in hospital, blinded by Sebastian's cruelty.

"Oh my God, Sebastian did What? Why?" Nick demanded, starting to see red. Sebastian already questioned Nick's authority enough at Dalton, let alone turning vigilante and committing heinous deeds in their name. Especially to some of Nicks closest friends.

"How the hell should I know? He's your club member, why don't you ask him yourself?" Kurt returned grumpily. He just wanted Nick to do something about it, not ask the whys and wherefores.

"Maybe I will. I can't believe that he did that, I'm so sorry Kurt. I'll talk to him, sort him out. And tell Blaine that we are all thinking of him. We'll come up and see you guys soon." Kurt let out the breath he had been holding and calmed himself down a little more. Nick would do something. Of course he would. Nick was not about to let Sebastian get away with this. He was one of the good guys.

"I will do. Thanks Nick and I'll see you soon." Kurt allowed himself to relax a little at his friends concern and promise to talk with Sebastian.

"Sure Kurt. Anything for Blaine."

"Bye Nick."

"Bye." Kurt hit the call end button and finished making Blaine's hot chocolate, a secret smile creeping into the corners of his lips. Sebastian was not going to get away with this. One way or the other, Kurt Hummel would enact his justice on Sebastian Smythe.

Nick frowned as he dropped his phone back down onto his desk.

"What did Kurt want? What has Sebastian done?" Jeff asked, looking up from his homework that he was trying to complete, but with little success so far. There were just too many distractions. Nick, Kurt's call, plus Jeff found the homework tedious. He would rather be doing just about anything else he could.

"Only gone and thrown a slushie with extra ingredients in it onto him and Blaine. Kurt thinks it was rocks, or rock salt, or something like that. Apparently it got all over Blaine and now he's freezing. It was two hours ago and he's still shivering. I can't believe that Sebastian would do something so vicious to them." Nick fumed to his boyfriend, having to sit on his desk chair to try and calm himself down, as Jeff placed his homework aside and went over to sooth his boyfriend, stroking his dark hair and hugging his head to his chest, comforting Nick as he was clearly upset. Blaine was almost like a brother to Nick and when something like this happened, it affected him greatly.

"Why would he do that? That could have been really dangerous." Jeff asked Nick worry lacing his voice, kissing his boyfriends head once Nick had calmed down a little.

"I know. That's what Kurt said. I can't even imagine what could have happened if it had really hurt Blaine, or even Kurt."

"You need to talk to him Nick. He's really pushing it lately." Jeff told his partner straight, a serious look on his face.

"Oh don't worry, I will." Nick got up from the chair determination spreading over his features, revitalised and ready for whatever battle lie ahead of him. Sebastian was not going to get away with this. Not if Nicholas Duval had anything to do with it. Nick, followed very closely by Jeff stalked out of his room and along to Sebastian's single room on the next corridor over.

Once reaching the tall Warblers room Nick pounded on the door fiercely.

"Alright, already. I'm coming. Jeez..." Sebastian opened the door a little, his hair tousled and his shirt undone completely. Nick could sense another presence in the room and was in no doubt what he had interrupted Sebastian from doing.

"Well if it isn't the Captain and his little lapdog. Sir, yes, sir. What can I do for you?" Sebastian mocked the two boys, saluting Nick in a mock army gesture, a snarly grin coming over his features. "I'm kinda busy, so can we make this quick boys."

"Don't play around with me Sebastian. I heard about your little stunt today and I have to say that I'm not impressed. Not impressed at all. In fact I have a mind to suspend you from the Warblers at regionals." Nick fumed at him, not letting Sebastian intimidate him in the slightest. Sebastian revelled in power over people and Nick was never going to give him the satisfaction of having power over him.

Sebastian's grin faded instantly. Pulling up to his full height he stepped as close as he could get to Nick, invading his personal space. "You can't do that."

"Oh and why not?" Nick raised his eyebrow and met Sebastian's eyes with his own, both boys locked in a staring match that only one was going to win. Nick knew that it had to be him if he was ever going to get the chance of maintaining respect as captain.

"Because you need me. Without me your group doesn't stand a chance at winning. None of you are talented enough to go up against the likes of Berry or Blaine."

"You know what? I don't care. I'd rather lose with dignity then resort to cheap pranks and underhanded tactics. What did you put in that slushie Sebastian? Rocks? Salt? What?" Nick pointed his finger directly into Sebastian's chest, not letting go of his lock on the boys eyes.

"It was rock salt, not that it matters because it didn't work any ways."

"Blaine is still shivering from you throwing that all over him you know. And just to let you know, Blaine is one of my closest friends, so when you hurt him, you hurt me. You're out of the competition Sebastian. That's final." Nick spat out the last words with venom.

Sebastian chuckled to himself and broke the stare down, knowing he had lost this round. Nick was a worthy opponent. More so than Sebastian would ever have expected. He was definitely not the weak boy that he had first thought he was. "Whatever you desire captain. Go and lose regionals, see if I care." With that, Sebastian slammed the door in both their faces.

"You know, I think he was mad Nick." Jeff commented, tilting his head to his boyfriends.

"Good. He deserves it." Nick gloated, puffing his chest out. He had won his biggest battle against the lanky Warbler to date at it had felt good. Especially since it was to help out his friends in Lima.

The next morning Blaine walked calmly down the halls of McKinley. The worry and torment of Sebastian hurting Kurt via slushie was no longer on his radar. He had gotten Kurt out of the line of fire, and himself at the same time. Sure, it had hit his back and he had been cold for a while, but no one had been hurt and the relief that Blaine felt was palpable. He didn't, however, expect what he saw leaning against his locker when he turned the corner. One Sebastian Smythe, out of Dalton uniform. Blaine stopped dead, a look of horror crossing his face as he whipped around to head back in the opposite direction. Unfortunately, Sebastian spotted him and ran to catch him up, gripping his left wrist and yanking him towards the lanky boy, causing pain to flair up Blaine's arm at the roughness of the pull.

"What do you want Sebastian?" Blaine snarled at the boy, trying to pull his arm free but not succeeding. Sebastian had a very strong grip on his wrist, and it was starting to smart as Blaine wriggled it around.

"Can we talk?" Sebastian replied, the words coming out as more threatening than questioning.

"No. Get off me now."

"Why, are you going to set your pitbulls up against me like you did last night?" Sebastian asked, fury evident on his face. He was unquestionably not flirting with Blaine any more and Blaine had to wonder at the sudden change in his address towards him.

"What are you talking about?" Blaine asked, puzzled.

"Oh come on Blaine. I know it was you that phoned Nick and cried to him about me throwing a slushie over you. Well now, thanks to you, I'm off the team for regionals, so if I were you, I would watch your back because no one messes with me and gets away with it." Blaine, getting more confused by the minute, shook his head and let out a frustrated breath towards the taller boy.

"I haven't spoken to Nick for over a week."

"Whatever. You and your gayamese twin had better watch out." Blaine's brow furrowed and he jutted his jaw out ready for the attack that seemed to be coming. Blaine knew he could hold his own, he just hoped that Sebastian himself didn't know that.

"Hey, who the hell are you and why are you gripping my friend there, Lanky Larry?" Santana burst in on the two boys after having watched their exchange for the first minute or so and determining that Blaine could do with back up.

"Leave out of this pom poms." Sebastian sneered as he looked Santana up and down, seeing her in her cheer leading uniform.

"It's ok Santana, I can deal with this." Blaine tried to placate the girl but Sebastian had angered the girl by calling her a name and thinking that he could intimidate one of her friends. Only Santana was allowed to do that, and when she did it, it was in jest. This boy meant business and Santana didn't like it. Not one bit.

"Now look here Twinkerbell, I don't like people getting up in my grill. Do you know where I come from? I come from a place called Lima Hights Adjacent, and that Mr Fancy Pants, is the wrong side of the tracks. So you don't want to mess with me because I will go all Lima Heights on that perky little behind of yours until there is nothing left of it. Is that clear? So I suggest that you let go of my friends arm and walk away." Sebastian looked like he was going to make another snide comment until Santana pointed her finger up to the boy and repeated her threat once again, giving him one last chance. "Walk away."

Sebastian shook his head and glared forcefully at Blaine, choosing to ignore the Latino girl. "This isn't over yet Blaine. I know it was you." He shouldered into Blaine, forcing him back into Santana, both of them slamming into the lockers behind them and winding them both. Once they were both back standing and breathing steadily once more, Blaine making sure that Santana was ok, Santana folded her arms over her chest and demanded to know what was going on.

"Ok, who the hell is that idiot Blaine?"

"That would be one Sebastian Smythe and I think things might get a little ugly around here for a while." Blaine sighed, looking tired. He just wanted a peaceful life and he was getting tired of things standing in the way of that.

"Well he can think again because he hasn't had the full force of Auntie Snixx come knocking at his door yet." Santana smiled lovingly over at her small, but strong friend. She was starting to really care for the hobbit. He was actually a lot more fun than she had ever realised.

"Thanks Santana."

"Don't mention it hon. I look after my friends."
