Chapter Thirty Eight.
I don't know how he did it but Dean managed to talk my brothers into helping him put the iron posts up along the path after it had been mowed. Don't get me wrong my brothers are hard workers but both of them saw this trip as a mini holiday yet they are out there with Dean and Sam, punching holes and carting posts. Even Gabriel who hates physical work is out there helping.
"Well I say he bribed them… it' the only explanation" says Anna with a grin.
Mary nods "He would… he does it to Sam all the time".
I laugh and shake my head "Sam lets him".
"True" nods Mary.
"I must say it is good to see them all getting along so well" adds my mom.
"Nothing like sweat and hard work to bring men together" jokes Lilly.
We all laugh at that.
Then Lilly blushes and looks down at the fabric rose she is pinning to the chair cover "Uh sorry Castiel" she mutters.
I tilt my head "Huh ?".
Mary chuckles "I don't think he even caught that one Lilly".
I frown and think a moment then realise what she had said and chuckle "It's ok Lilly… I agree with you".
My mom pats her hand "Don't feel bad… Castiel has never been what you'd call butch, he's more at home pinning roses to covers than digging holes".
I smile softly at Lilly and nod, not wanting her to feel bad for being so comfortable that she said such a thing without thinking of me as one of the men.
"He shops like a woman and can gossip with the best of us" grins Mary.
Lilly smiles "Oh ok".
"Who do you think helped me pick my prom dress ?" adds Anna as she nudges me.
"And your lucky I did… that thing you had picked out was hideous Anna… I saved you" I grin at her.
Lilly chuckles and I can see her relaxing again.
He stops and wipes sweat out of his eyes and has to bite his tongue to stifle a moan… not a good thing to do when your staring at your future brother in laws ass.
'Damn I could climb him like a tree' he thinks as Sam stands up and holds the post steady for Michael to fill the hole.
Gabriel sighs and picks up another post and takes it to Dean and Lu.
Dean looks up "We'll finish this lot then go grab a drink and some lunch yeah ?"
The others nod.
"When are you putting in a pool Dean ?" asks Sam as he wipes sweat off his face.
"Jeez Sammy what is that ?" Dean asks as he points to the lake.
Sam laughs "Oh right… so we can swim in it ?".
Dean nods "The previous owner said there's nothing living in it… he never put fish or anything in there… it was more I giant trough for the horses he had".
"Well we're done" says Michael as he finishes filling the in hole.
"Cool… your it" grins Sam as he slaps Gabriel's arm and takes off running for the lake.
"Hey ! Cheat !" yells Gabe as he runs off after Sam.
Lu chuckles and shakes his head "Your right Mike… he'll never grow up".
Michael just nods.
Dean chuckles and says "Gabe's only fault is that he takes way too much delight in helping that kid stir me".
Michael and Lu laugh.
"He would" says Mike.
Dean finishes filling in the hole and stands up "Right… I need a beer, food and a kiss… not in that order mind you" he winks and heads for the house.
Lu and Michael groan as one.
"That is our baby brother your talking about" teases Lu.
"Yep" nods Dean with a grin.
"Just spare us the use of tongue and we promise not to hurl" adds Michael.
Dean laughs "I don't make promises I can't keep Mike".
"Oh ewww" says Lu.
Making Dean laugh harder as the three of them walk to the house.
Jack's ears prick up and he raises his head then stands and gives a happy bark before trotting to the back door.
My mom raises an eyebrow.
"Dean must be on his way in" I smile and get up to get beers out of the fridge.
A few moments later we hear voices and Dean, Lu and Michael walk in.
"Beer ?" I ask as I hand them out.
"You're a life saver Baby" says Dean as he kisses my cheek.
"There's his kiss" teases Lu.
Michael snorts "Yeah… like we're that lucky".
I raise an eyebrow at them all.
"Where's Gabriel and Sam ?" asks my mom.
"We buried them neck deep for the ants to eat" jokes Lu.
Dean chuckles.
"They went swimming in the lake Mom" says Michael.
Mom nods "They better not be too long… or there will be no food left. You boys go wash up and we'll get you some lunch".
"Yes Mom" from my brothers mixed with a "Yes ma'am" from Dean.
All three head for the downstairs bathroom, beers in hand, nudging each other and joking.
"I must say you have them well trained Rebecca even mine listened to you" says Mary.
Mom actually winks at Mary "It's all in the voice".
Mary chuckles and nods.
I look at Anna and Lilly, roll my eyes and joke "Mothers".
They both laugh.
"I wonder how John and Charles are doing ?" muses Mary.
"Probably driving the delivery men insane" grins mom.
Mary nods "Yes I bet they are".
"They should be here soon… it doesn't take long to deliver tables and chairs" I add as I get everything out to make sandwiches.
"Production line Cas ?" asks Anna as she gets up to help me.
I nod "Best quickest way there is".
"Can I help ?" asks Lilly.
"Can you cut tomatoes ?" asks Anna.
Lilly nods and gets up to join us.
Sam runs into the lake in his jeans and simply drops into the water with an "Ahhh… that's better".
Gabriel laughs and takes off his shoes then wades in to join him.
"Oh this is good… who needs a pool when you have a lake" he grins at Sam.
"Oh shut up… everyone we know has fish in their lakes" Sam grins as he splashes Gabe.
Gabriel laughs and splashes back.
"Poor little rich boy" teases Gabe.
Sam pokes his tongue "Blow me Gabe".
'Oh if you insist big boy' thinks Gabe as he pulls a face and jokes "Uh dunno where you've been Sammy".
Sam grins back and never even notices that he doesn't bother to correct Gabriel the way he does with everyone else.
"So you would if you knew where I've been ?" he teases.
Gabriel blushes and looks away before floating on his back "You wish" he says trying to sound calm.
Sam smiles and thinks 'Yeah I do but I'm not that lucky'.
He splashes Gabe again and swims away a bit not entirely sure what it was he felt for Cas's brother. They had spent a lot of time together in the last week, most of it wedding related as they are the best men but he'd had fun the whole time. Gabriel kept him laughing and made even the most boring task fun. Unlike Dean, Sam had only ever been attracted to one other male… a boy in high school had gotten him all hot and bothered but since then he had been with girls only. This thing he seemed to have for Gabriel worried him… he didn't want to cause trouble between Dean and Cas and he was sure that this would do just that. So he kept his mouth shut and his comments light. Not knowing what else to do.
