Chapter 36: Intense Battles! Gurdurr vs. Sandslash and Ursaring vs. Beartic
Narration: The PWT has finally gotten underway. Golen, his friends and their rivals have successfully passed through the first round and are preparing for the fierce battles of the second round.
"Have you guys had any results from your investigation?" Duke asked his companions as they regrouped with each other. "We didn't find a thing." Nichole answered as she stood with her Tirtouga, Ditto and Durant. "Me neither." Zorua begrudgingly added along. "I didn't have any luck either." Duke answered as he stood together with his Archen and Heatmor. "So what do we do now?" Nichole asked. "We should probably cease our investigation and rest. It's getting pretty dark anyways." Duke replied. "Yeah, and we should report to that bastard Pokémon Hunter as well." Zorua added along as the trio departed.
"Hey Tom, let's have a training battle." Golen told his companion while he woke up from his sleep as Vlad and Tom hid their project from the goggles wearing lad.
"Well if you insist." Tom answered. "He just woke up and he's already asking for a battle." Vlad said in amazement. "Emoh, emoh." Emolga muttered as it buried its face into a pillow. The trio then departed to the backyard of the Pokémon Center that was next doors. "So what matchup would you like to utilize for this practice battle?" Tom asked his companion. "How about we use one of the Pokémon that we plan on using in the tournament?" Golen suggested. "Very well." Tom answered as he held out his Pokéball.
"Let's go, Timburr!" Golen declared as he tossed a dark red Pokéball into the sky. From it emerged the Muscular Pokémon who prepared to battle.
"Teddiursa lend me your strength!" Tom declared as he called out the Little Bear Pokémon. "Teddiursa against Timburr, huh? I don't think we've ever seen this matchup." Vlad stated. "I'll go first Tom, Timburr use Strength!" Golen commanded as the Muscular Pokémon rose to its feet and was encased in a red aura as it charged at Teddiursa. "Teddiursa avoid it gracefully!" Tom ordered as Teddiursa dodged Timburr's attack, much to the Muscular Pokémon's annoyance. "Now use Rock Slide!" Golen commanded as Timburr stomped its block into the ground.
Multiple white rings appeared in the sky and from the rings appeared multiple boulders which came crashing down on Teddiursa.
"Intercept it with Rock Tomb!" Tom calmly commanded as Teddiursa hurled a transparent grey boulder towards the boulders, which managed to successfully destroy all of them. "You're as strong as ever." Golen smiled. "Likewise." Tom replied. "Teddiursa use Take Down!" Tom commanded as Teddiursa was engulfed in golden aura and a white force field as it charged right into Timburr, who was sent reeling. "Timburr." Timburr angrily muttered as Teddiursa smirked. "Timburr use Mach Punch!" Golen quickly commanded while one of Timburr's fists glowed blue as it quickly punched Teddiursa in the face. "Teddi." Teddiursa angrily muttered as Timburr grinned at it.
"They sure seem a bit serious." Vlad expressed. "Teddiursa use Cross Chop!" "Timburr use DynamicPunch!" the two trainers commanded.
Teddiursa placed its forearms in an X-shape as they soon adopted a white glow and it charged at the Muscular Pokémon. Timburr pulled one of its fists back as it rushed at the Little Bear Pokémon. The fist then started to glow red as Timburr collided with Teddiursa. The collision between the two Pokémon ended in a stalemate as they were both sent reeling. "I believe that will be enough." Tom declared. "Yeah, it was a fun practice battle." Golen stated. "Timburr, timburr!" "Teddiursa, teddi!" the two Pokémon protested against the cancellation of their battle.
"Timburr?" Golen muttered in confusion. "Teddiursa?" Tom mumbled, being just as confused. "I guess they brought out a competitive drive within each other." Vlad chuckled.
"You guys should let them battle, it'll be better to get in more training before the second round battles." Vlad added along. "Alright, I'm up for some more training." Golen declared. "As am I." Tom added along as the two Pokémon grinned at each other. "Timburr use Mach Punch!" Golen commanded as one of Timburr's fists glowed blue as it quickly rushed at the Little Bear Pokémon. "Teddiursa use Slash!" Tom commanded in response as Teddiursa's claws quickly extended and adopted a light glow as it began to collide with Timburr. The two Pokémon struck at each other in a back and forth clash. Timburr avoided Teddiursa's Slash and attempted to attack it with Mach Punch to no avail as Teddiursa continued to attack as well. "They sure are intense." Vlad expressed in awe as the two Pokémon managed to strike each other in the face with their respective attacks. "Tim." "Teddi." the two Pokémon smirked at each other as they stood on opposing sides of the battlefield.
The two Pokémon were soon encased in a bright light much to everyone's shock. "Timburr!" "Teddiursa!" Golen and Tom exclaimed in shock. "It's a simultaneous evolution!" Vlad shouted in amazement.
The Pokémon were soon surrounded by blue rings of energy as their bodies began to lose their shape while they then began to completely change their body structures as their eyes continued to glow red throughout the entire process. The light had first faded on one of them, in place of where Timburr appeared a gray bipedal Pokémon with a large, round dark-violet nose. It had bulbous features, resembling curls of "hair", on its head. Violet bulges resembling swelling veins patterned its muscular, large arms, thighs, and chest, and similar thick violet bands adorned its shoulders. It possessed an hourglass shape. It was known to usually carry an I-beam girder in its arms.
"Timburr evolved!" Golen happily shouted. "Gurdurr." the newly evolved Pokémon proudly declared as Golen looked on in awe.
The second light had then faded as in place of Teddiursa appeared a bipedal, ursine Pokémon. Its broad body was covered in brown fur, except its muzzle, inner ears, and paw pads, which were a light tan. It had narrow eyes, a triangular, black nose, and wide mouth with small, visible fangs in the upper jaw. The fur on its shoulders was longer and more structured, with rectangular extensions that resembled epaulettes. There was a large, tan, ring-shaped mark on its chest. Its forelimbs were long, ending in five claws each, while its hind legs were short and thick, ending in three claws each. Its tail was large and spherical in shape. "Gumme!" the new Pokémon shouted as the newly evolved Muscular Pokemon lost its proud smirk while it and its trainer looked on in shock.
"Teddiursa has evolved as well!" Tom happily added along. "Both Timburr and Teddiursa evolved because of their competitive drives." Vlad expressed as Golen pulled out his Pokédex.
Gurdurr, the Muscular Pokémon. The evolved form of Timburr. With strengthened bodies, they skillfully wield steel beams to take down buildings. Ursaring, the Hibernator Pokémon. In its territory, it leaves scratches on trees that bear delicious berries or fruits.
"Amazing." Golen muttered. "This is great, now the both of you have stronger Pokémon to use in the next rounds!" Vlad joyfully told his companions. "It was quite a fortunate turn of events." Tom stated. "Yeah, now let's keep on training for a while longer!" Golen declared as he and Tom continued training with each other.
Elsewhere over at the backyard of the hotel was Carly, who trained with her Gible.
"Gible use Iron Head!" Carly commanded as the fin on Gible's head turned into a silver metal while it charged right into a boulder, completely pulverizing it. "Alright, now use Dragon Claw!" Carly quickly ordered while one of Gible's claws were engulfed in a light blue aura as it slashed at a tree. "We've been at this for hours." Carly expressed in exhaustion as she fell on her knees. "It's no use, the way we are now we'll never be able to win the tournament." Carly thought to herself.
"If I get matched up against either Golen or Tom I'll in trouble and things wouldn't be any better if I had to face either Kim or Logan, who are even stronger than they were last time. Not to mention that Omi and Valen are pretty powerful as well and if I face someone like Kozu in my current state than I'm bound to be eliminated." Carly pondered on about her chances of defeating the others. "It no use, I won't be able to beat any of them." Carly mumbled.
"What are you doing out here alone?" a voice asked. "What?" Carly turned around to notice Kim.
"Shouldn't you be with your…" "I already told you that we don't have that kind of relationship." Carly told the pink-haired lass, who crouched down to talk to her. "Maybe so but considering that you decided to travel with them shouldn't you be training with those guys rather than on your own?" Kim asked the lass. "You complained about me being too weak for relying on them yet you're trying to encourage me to rely on them now?" Carly asked in confusion. "You're weak either way you put it." Kim mockingly stated to Carly's annoyance. "I don't like to say this but you're right." Carly admitted to her rival.
"I can't do a thing with or without their help. In fact if I had gotten a stronger opponent in the first round than I probably would have lost." Carly stated. "That is true." Kim replied.
"But just because it is doesn't mean that you should waste your time whining and crying about it rather than trying to improve yourself." Kim added along to Carly's shock. "You're aiming for the Unova Circuit so you shouldn't even consider looking down on yourself because in the end the only people you're making look bad is me and all of the other trainers with that goal." Kim declared to the lass. "I've decided." Carly suddenly stated as she rose to her feet. "I'm going to beat all of you." Carly declared to Kim as Gible happily looked.
"Beat all of us? Don't lump me in with those other losers, I'm still in a league of my own." Kim retorted as she rose to her feet as well.
"Gible let's keep training with all of our strength!" Carly told the Land Shark Pokémon who smiled in response. "Gible." Gible declared. "All of the training in the world won't make you a match for me." Kim declared as she began to walk away. "Thanks, Kim." Carly thought to herself as she thanked her rival. "Gible use Dragon Claw!" Carly commanded as Gible began to repeatedly use Dragon Claw while Kim looked back. "It makes me proud to see my girls getting along so well." Logan thought to himself from a distance as he teased the two girls.
"Gible!" Gible wailed before it was surrounded by blue rings of energy as its body began to lose its shape while it then began to completely change its body structure as its eyes continued to glow red throughout the entire process. "Gible's evolving?" Carly muttered in shock.
The light had then faded and in place of Gible stood a new Pokémon. It was a medium-sized, bipedal dragon-like Pokémon that was primarily blue. Its underside was light blue, with red covering it from the middle of its abdomens to the bottoms of its jaw. It had two appendages that resembled jets or plane engines extending out the side of its skull. Each appendage had a blue stripe. It had four fins, one on each arm, one on its back and another on its tail. It had spikes on its hind limbs, and sharp claws on its feet. Its eyes had black scleras and gold colored irises. "No way." Kim muttered in astonishment as she and Logan looked on while Carly pulled out her Pokédex.
Gabite, the Cave Pokémon. The evolved form of Gible. It loves sparkly things. It seeks treasures in caves and hoards the loot into its nest.
"I'm so glad that you evolved, Gabite." Carly joyfully told the newly evolved Cave Pokémon as she hugged it. "That won't change a thing." Kim mumbled to herself as she walked away. "Well this should help to make her a more enjoyable adversary." Logan sneered as he left as well. "Alright, I promise that I won't let you or the rest of the team down." Carly told her Gabite as the duo continued their training.
"Yo Golen, Tom and Vlad. What are you guys doing?" Omi asked the duo as he appeared with a fawn-like Pokémon, that most resembled a fallow deer.
The upper side of its body was green along with that it had a yellow patterned rim, and its underside was light beige. It sported a yellow floral tuft on its head, and similar yellow coloration on the ear insides of its tapering ears. The tips of its limbs were colored black and its pink tail was small. "Omi?" Tom muttered as Golen pulled out his Pokédex.
Deerling, the Season Pokémon. Their coloring changes according to the seasons and can be slightly affected by the temperature and humidity as well.
"Well we were just getting some late night training done before tomorrow's second rounds." Vlad answered. "Heh I was doing the same thing." Omi stated. "I guess great minds think alike, wait where's Fraxure?" Golen asked the orange-haired boy. "Well I only planned on using him in one of the rounds so I'm letting him rest for the remainder of the tournament." Omi answered.
"That makes sense." Golen stated as they heard a loud thud. "What was that?" Tom wondered as the group ran over to notice Valen lying on the floor.
"What's wrong, Mr. Valen?" Vlad asked the lad who rose up from the ground. "I was trying to get some training in but I accidentally fell off of Tauros' back." Valen answered as he rubbed his head in pain. "Return for now Tauros." Valen told the Wild Bull Pokémon as he recalled it. "Is it not a bit precipitous to be riding on the back of a Tauros while training?" Tom asked the lad. "No way, Tauros' battling style revolves around plowing through its opponents so it being able to battle flawlessly while I ride on its back is absolutely necessary if we want to grow stronger together. Besides the rush that training like that gives me is amazing." Valen proudly answered.
"That's awesome." Golen stated in awe. "Yeah, but you better watch out for tomorrow." Valen told Golen. "Huh? Why should I?" Golen asked in confusion.
"Because if we end up getting paired together than it'll be a given that you'll end up losing." Valen answered. "You wish, I'm not going to lose because I'm the one who's winning this entire tournament!" Golen retorted. "Yeah right, even without my Fraxure you'll never make it past me." Omi told the goggles wearing lad as the trio argued with each other. "Maybe all three of you will end up being in the final four?" Vlad suggested. "Oh yeah! We're going to be the final four!" the three trainers declared as they and Vlad danced together in joy.
"They have not even made it to the final eight yet." Tom chuckled as the quartet goofily laughed together. Eventually morning had come as Golen and his friends met up in front of the stadium.
"Man that was the best sleep I've had in a while." Amy expressed as she stretched. "What about you guys?" Amy asked the quartet who were a bit drowsy from spending too much of the night training rather than getting a proper night of sleep. "*yawn* It's nothing." Carly answered. "Yeah, but more importantly we must make haste. The matchups for the second round will be announced soon." Tom told his companions. "You should quit while you're behind, Tom." Logan expressed as he passed through the violet-haired lad.
"Silence you rapscallion." Tom retorted as he followed him and entered the stadium. "You guys should hurry up." Amy exclaimed as she entered as well.
"Who do you think you'll have to battle against in the next rounds?" Vlad asked Golen. "It doesn't matter, I'll win no matter what. Come on Vlad!" Golen declared as he and Vlad left to enter the stadium. "Those guys have too much energy for their own good." Carly muttered as she soon entered the stadium as well.
"Everyone, welcome to the second day of the Pokémon World Tournament. Today your commentators will be myself, the local Nurse and the special guest for today's events, Alder!" Turner declared. "Hello everyone, let's make sure to give it our best shot today." Alder declared. "Alder, eh?" Amy muttered. "It'll be just like back then." Golen excitingly declared. "Now take a look at the front screen for the matchups of the next round." Alder declared as he pointed at the big screen. "Here are the matchups!" the Nurse declared.
"The first match will be, Kozu against Johan!" the Nurse declared. "I'll win no matter what." Kozu expressed. "The second match will be, Jose against Cherrie!" Turner declared. "The third match will be, Carly against Andrew!" Turner added along. "So I'm third, huh?" Carly muttered to herself. "The fourth match is, Golen against Valen!" the Nurse stated. "Alright!" Golen happily exclaimed. "Heh I'll get to show you my power even earlier than I expected." Valen told the black-haired lad in amusement. "I wouldn't have preferred it any other way." Golen smirked. "No fair, I wanted to battle against one of you guys." Omi childishly complained.
"The fifth match is, Omi against Phyl!" Turner declared. "I can't wait!" Omi eagerly stated. "The sixth match is, Logan against George!" the Nurse stated. "What a bore, this'll hardly be any fun." Logan complained.
"Weren't you complaining about facing a girl the other day?" George asked in confusion. "The seventh match is, Kal against Victor!" the Nurse added along. "And the eighth and final match of the second round, is Tom against Kim!" Turner declared. "Hmph so Kim will be my next opponent. I look forward to the challenge she will present to me." Tom smirked. "Ha this'll be too easy. Just watch Carly, I'll crush him as badly as I'm going to crush you the next time we face!" Kim arrogantly declared to the green-haired lass.
"Alright now it will be time for the first matchup of the second rounds, Kozu against Johan!" Turner declared as the two trainers walked up to the opposing sides of the battlefield while the crowd cheered.
"Let the battle, BEGIN!" the referee declared. "Soar, Prinplup!" Kozu declared as he tossed his Pokéball into the sky.
From it emerged a blue, penguin-like Pokémon. It was mostly dark blue with light blue facial markings, wing tips, and lower body. Its eyes were blue and it had a short yellow beak with a small point above it. Two large, yellow ridges extended from its beak over the back of its head and met just above the nape of its neck. On its body were four large, white spots that resembled buttons. Instead of arms, it had long, flipper-like wings that were capable of knocking over and snapping trees. It had short legs with yellow, three-toed feet. "Prinplup?" Golen expressed in astonishment as he pulled out his Pokédex.
Prinplup, the Penguin Pokémon. The evolved form of Piplup. Because every Prinplup considers itself to be the most important, they can never form a group.
"So Piplup evolved." Golen mumbled to himself as he remembered Kozu's Piplup. "Come on, Carnivine!" Johan declared as he called out a green Pokémon resembling a Venus Flytrap. Its circular eyes had small pupils, and it had spiky teeth. Its stem was yellow with green spots, with red and green vines beneath with the appearance of tentacles. It could hang from tree branches using these vines, and it was said to look like a plant. "A Carnvine." Vlad stated as Carly pulled out her Pokédex.
Carnivine, the Bug Catcher Pokémon. Using its tentacles to lash itself to trees, it lies in wait for prey, luring it close with sweet-smelling drool.
"He's at the type disadvantage again." Amy stated. "Will he be able to overcome it like he did yesterday?" Vlad asked as Golen intently looked on. "Carnivine use Vine Whip!" Johan commanded as light green vines came out from under the leaves under Carnivine's head and it attacked the Penguin Pokémon, who merely avoided the attack. "Now use Bullet Seed!" Johan ordered as Carnivine released multiple gold seeds surrounded in a light green aura from its mouth at Prinplup, who merely stood in place and took the attack. "Oh my, just like last time Kozu's Pokémon seem to be bent on withstanding the force of their opponent's super effective moves!" the Nurse exclaimed.
"Why isn't Kozu commanding Prinplup to attack?" Golen thought to himself. "Carnivine use Bite!" Johan commanded as Carnivine charged at the Penguin Pokémon and opened its mouth.
In response Prinplup merely slapped its opponent away with the swat of its wing. "He's not even taking this seriously." Carly expressed. "Why should he? Prinlup and Carnivine are on completely different levels." Valen responded. "Carnivine it's time to use your strongest move, Power Whip!" Johan commanded as both of Carnivine's glowed purple and it charged at Prinplup once more. "Finally, Prinplup use Cut!" Kozu declared as one of Prinplup's arms glowed light blue and it charged at the Bug Catcher Pokémon. The two Pokémon then began to trade blows with each other as Prinplup repeatedly struck at Carnivine who only barely managed to strike Prinplup with Power Whip.
"Now, settle this with Hydro Pump!" Kozu commanded as Prinplup opened its beak as its mouth began to glow blue while a blue ball of water formed in front of its beak.
The ball of water then flattened and turned into a circle. Then, a powerful jet of water was fired from the circle at the Bug Catcher Pokémon, who was promptly defeated by the attack. "Carnivine is unable to battle, Prinplup is the winner and the victor of the first match is Kozu!" the referee declared. "Once again, Kozu has dominated and acquired victory." Turner stated.
"It might be a bit premature but I believe that he's the favorite to win this tournament." Alder declared as Kozu recalled his Prinplup. "He's on a whole other level." Golen anxiously thought to himself. "That guy's got some impressive power." Valen admitted. "Wait for me." Kozu thought to himself as he briefly glanced at over Omi. "Wait, he's…" Omi muttered as he seemingly recognized Kozu.
"Now it is time for the second match between Jose and Cherrie!" the Nurse declared. As the battle got underway elsewhere Jin anxiously sat in his private booth.
"To think that those four showed up now of all times." Jin angrily mumbled to himself. "This is bad, if they end up getting in my way than it'll end up ruining all the years of progress that Team Dogma has made." Jin thought to himself as he recalled a silhouette of the four figures. "No, they told me that they'd be back on the final day of the tournament to discuss something of great importance to me. So until then I can relax." Jin expressed as he looked on at the battles.
"Azumarill use Scald!" Cherrie commanded as Azumarill released a stream of scalding hot water surrounded by steam from its mouth at Jose's Watchog. "Watchog, no!" Jose exclaimed. "Watchog is unable to battle, Azumarill is the winner and the victor is Cherrie!" the referee declared.
"Now it's time for the third match, Carly versus Andrew." the Nurse announced. "Good luck, Ms. Carly!" Vlad exclaimed. "You can do it!" Golen added along. "Let the battle, begin!" the referee shouted.
"It's your time to shine, Slowpoke!" Carly declared as she called out the Dopey Pokémon. "Come out, Tangela!" Andrew declared as he called out a Pokémon that appeared to be covered with thick blue vines that obscured its face so only its eyes could be seen. These vines were covered in fine hair, and they gave it a round shape. It had a pair of red boot-like feet, but no visible arms. "Tangela?" Carly muttered as she pulled out her Pokédex.
Tangela, the Vine Pokémon. Many writhing vines cover it, so its true identity remains unknown. The blue vines grow its whole life long.
"We'll go first, Tangela use Sunny Day!" Andrew commanded as Tangela unleashed two golden beams of energy into the sky.
The two beams of energy flew high into the sky and twisted around each other, forming into an orb. As they did, the two beams turned white and as a result an intense sunlight encased the arena. "With this Slowpoke's Water-type moves will be weakened." Valen stated. "But why would he use Sunny Day for something like that when Tangela already resists Water-type moves?" Vlad wondered as Tom realized what he was planning. "Now, Tangela use SolarBeam!" Andrew commanded as Tangela formed a bright gold orb of energy in front of its body. Almost instantly it then fired a bright gold beam of energy from the orb at the Dopey Pokémon.
"He used Sunny Day to eliminate the drawbacks of using SolarBeam." Tom stated. "Carly get out of the way!" Golen yelled.
"Slowpoke use Protect!" Carly commanded as a turquoise force field came out and surrounded Slowpoke's body, protecting it from the powerful SolarBeam. "Not bad." Logan muttered with a smirk. "Now Slowpoke use Psyshock!" Carly quickly commanded as a thick mass of light blue, blue and purple energy formed in front of Slowpoke's body, and it fired the orb at the Vine Pokémon. "Tangela!" Andrew shouted. "Awesome, though how did you know that he used Sunny Day to use SolarBeam faster?" Golen asked his companion. "It was somewhat obvious." Tom answered. "We won't lose, Tangela use SolarBeam!" Andrew commanded.
"Slowpoke use Flamethrower!" Carly responded as Slowpoke unleashed a stream of red-orange flames while Tangela shot out its SolarBeam.
The two moves briefly collided as the Sunny Day powered Flamethrower overpowered the SolarBeam and proceeded to knock out Tangela. "Tangela is unable to battle, Slowpoke is the winner and the victor is Carly!" the referee declared. "Thanks a lot Slowpoke." Carly congratulated the Dopey Pokémon for its victory. "Slow." Slowpoke blankly replied. "What an impressive victory." Alder stated.
"It was nothing special." Kim mumbled to herself. "Alright! Golen it's finally time!" Valen excitingly declared.
"Heh I've always wanted to battle against you." Golen stated as the duo jumped over the railing and quickly ran up to the battlefield. "Aw man, they're gonna have so much fun." Omi complained. "They sure are excited." Vlad chuckled. "More like stupid." Amy muttered. "I've trained hard ever since you and Kyoya stopped the robbery at the Corterra Museum." Valen told the lad. "That's good, the stronger you are the better my win over you will be." Golen replied. "I won't be losing today." Valen declared. "Bring it on." Golen eagerly responded.
"Let the battle, BEGIN!" the referee declared. "Let's go, Gurdurr!" "Alright, come on out Sandslash!" the two trainers declared as they called out their respective Pokémon.
Golen called out his newly evolved Muscular Pokémon while Valen called out a bipedal, ground dwelling pholidote Pokémon. Its body was mostly covered in sharp, brown quills formed from its tough, dry hide. It had two large claws on its paws and feet. These claws were its primary weapons, and were used for slashing. "I've never seen this Pokémon before." Golen thought to himself as he pulled out his Pokédex.
Sandslash, the Mouse Pokémon. The spikes on its body are made up of its hardened hide. It rolls up and attacks foes with its spikes.
"Wait Golen's Timburr evolved?" asked a surprised Carly as she regrouped with her friends. "Yeah, it had evolved in our training session." Tom answered.
"So the Timburr you captured back then has evolved, eh?" Valen asked. "Yeah, and I take it that you caught this Pokémon during the time that you were training, right?" Golen asked in response.
"Nah, I already had it in our previous encounter I just got to training and evolving it after you and Kyoya motivated me to challenge the Unova League." Valen answered. "What's Sandslash's pre-evolved form?" Omi asked in confusion. "I believe that it is called Sandshrew." Tom informed the boy. "Let's get started, Sandslash use Crush Claw!" Valen commanded while Sandslash's claws glowed blueish-white with black sparks surrounding it as it charged at Gurdurr. "Gurdurr dodge it!" Golen commanded as Gurdurr jumped on top of its girder to avoid the attack.
"Not bad." Valen muttered. "Alright now use Mach Punch!" Golen commanded while one of Gurdurr's fists glowed blue as it quickly punched Sandslash in the gut, sending it reeling.
"You'll need more than just that, Sandslash use Rollout!" Valen quickly ordered as Sandslash regained its balance and jumped into the air and spun towards the Muscular Pokémon with incredible speed and power. "What speed, Gurdurr dodge it!" Golen commanded as Gurdurr avoided the Rollout. "How naïve, keep using Rollout!" Valen declared as Sandslash continued to roll towards Gurdurr. "Gurdurr keep avoiding it!" Golen commanded in response while Gurdurr once again dodged the Rollout. "What's he doing?" Carly wondered in confusion over Golen's actions.
"Surely he could not have forgotten the boost in strength that Rollout acquires every time it is used." Tom muttered. "Maybe it's just part of his strategy?" Vlad suggested.
"Golen, you idiot! Stop running and just clobber them already!" Amy yelled at the goggles wearing lad. "I already know that!" Golen retorted as Gurdurr continued to avoid Sandslash's Rollout. "Sandslash go!" Valen commanded as Sandslash seemed to have cornered the Muscular Pokémon. "Just like I planned, Gurdurr use DynamicPunch!" Golen confidently commanded as Gurdurr let go of the steel beam it was holding and raised one of its fists into the air and clenched it. Its fist then began to glow red and red-orange energy pulsed off it like an explosion as it prepared to punch Sandslash while Valen simply smirked.
"Sandslash use Crush Claw!" Valen commanded to Golen's shock. Sandslash cancelled out its Rollout and struck the Muscular Pokémon with a powerful Crush Claw. "Gurdurr!" Golen exclaimed as Gurdurr fell to the floor.
"I see, that was quite the clever tactic." Tom stated. "Gurdurr." Gurdurr expressed as it stood to its feet. "Come on Golen that was only one hit, don't tell me you guys are already at the brink of defeat." Valen told the goggles wearing lad. "Nah, we were just taken by surprise. I honestly didn't think you were this good." Golen replied. "It's all thanks to you and Kyoya. If it wasn't for you guys than I would have just wasted my life with those lowlife hoodlums." Valen responded.
"I'm glad that we were able to affect you so much, you really have improved a lot since that time." Golen told his opponent. "Really? Heh this is still not good enough for me." Valen declared.
"What do you mean?" Golen asked. "The Unova League is my goal but what I really aspire to do is to defeat both you and Kyoya. The road I've decided to take was only possible because of the two of you so I want to prove that it was the right path to take by overcoming the both of you." Valen confidently responded. "Beat me and Fang? I'm sorry to say but while you might be able to beat him you'll never be able to beat me." Golen confidently declared.
"I don't know who they're talking about but he sounds like a complete wuss. Boy would I love to meet this failure and completely humiliate him like the pansy that he is." Kim mockingly laughed.
"Is that so? Hmph well I guess you won't be able to say that after I defeat you." Valen replied. "Bring it on." Golen smiled.
"Sandslash use Rollout!" Valen commanded as the Mouse Pokémon once again rolled towards its opponent. "We can't let them get close, Gurdurr use Stone Edge!" Golen commanded as Gurdurr placed its steel beam in one hand and crossed its arms across its chest. Its body then became surrounded in white energy for a moment and the energy came off its body in the form of two rings of jagged white energy orbs that floated around it. The white energy then faded, forming the orbs into gray jagged stones. Gurdurr then opened its arms and fired the stones at Sandslash. "Dodge it!" Valen commanded as Sandslash avoided the stones and even bounced on a few of them to confuse the Muscular Pokémon.
"Oh no!" Golen exclaimed as he and Gurdurr looked into the sky to realize Sandslash hovering right above of the Muscular Pokémon.
"Now use Poison Jab!" Valen quickly ordered as Sandslash's claws glowed purple and it attacked Gurdurr. "Gurdurr intercept it with Mach Punch!" Golen commanded while the two Pokémon simultaneously struck each other, as a result they were both knocked down due to the strength of each other's moves. "They're evenly matched." Omi muttered as he and Fraxure looked on. "I'm not done yet, Sandslash use Magnitude!" Valen ordered as Sandslash's body became outlined in an orange aura. It then jumped into the air and stomped on the ground, creating an earthquake. "Gurdurr." Gurdurr mumbled as it was struck by the attack. "Gurdurr!" Golen exclaimed.
"Oh my, Gurdurr has been struck by Magnitude! Will this be enough to finally take out the valiant Fighting-type?" the Nurse announced. "How lucky of you to have only been hit by a Magnitude 5." Valen expressed.
"What does he mean by five?" Carly asked in confusion. "Well Magnitude's power varies depending on what number it ends up being. It could either be a level 4, which is the weakest, and go all the way up to a level 10, which is the strongest." Vlad answered. "I promise you that next time you'll be hit by a Magnitude 10 and when that happens, you'll lose." Valen confidently exclaimed.
"This is bad, Gurdurr can't keep taking so many attacks." Golen muttered as Gurdurr firmly stood its ground. "This is it, Sandslash use Magnitude!" Valen declared.
"If Gurdurr gets hit by Magnitude 10 it'll be all over for him." Omi expressed. "Golen, do something!" Amy yelled. "That's it." Golen thought to himself as he came up with a ploy. Sandslash then created a much more powerful earthquake that approached the Muscular Pokémon."Gurdurr use DynamicPunch on the ground!" Golen urgently commanded as Gurdurr did as its trainer ordered and proceeded to punch the ground, much to the astonishment of the other trainers and the crowd. Gurdurr's DynamicPunch proceeded to create a large crater in the ground as the Magnitude was dispersed.
"I…Impossible!" Valen exclaimed in disbelief.
"Now I see, he used DynamicPunch on the ground to create strong enough shockwaves that would be able to disrupt the shockwaves created from Sandslash's Magnitude which in turn would cancel out the attack." Vlad stated. "What a clever tactic." said an impressed Tom. "I'm not entirely sure how that works but I'm impressed." Carly added along. "He's smarter than I expected." Omi admitted as Fraxure nodded its head.
"Honestly you guys this came from Golen, there's no way that he actually expected any of that to happen." Amy informed the quartet who in turn agreed with her.
"Amazing, the DynamicPunch managed to cancel out the Magnitude!" the Nurse exclaimed. "Never in my day have I seen a Magnitude be countered like that." Turner expressed. "What a marvelous move from Golem." Alder added along. "Hah now that Gurdurr destroyed the ground you won't be able to use Magnitude!" Golen declared. "So that was his plan?" Vlad mumbled. "I told you." Amy replied.
"I can't believe that Gurdurr's power was great enough to cancel out my Sandslash's Magnitude." Valen thought to himself.
"Now, Gurdurr use Mach Punch!" Golen commanded as Gurdurr dashed towards the Mouse Pokémon. "Sandslash use Crush Claw!" Valen commanded as Sandslash charged towards its opponent. "Alright throw your steel beam!" Golen quickly commanded as Gurdurr tossed its girder towards Sandslash. "Dodge it!" Valen ordered as Sandslash avoided the steel beam. But to both Valen and Sandslash's shock Gurdurr had appeared right behind of the Mouse Pokémon. "Now, hit it over and over again with Mach Punch!" Golen commanded as Gurdurr began to repeatedly strike Sandslash with Mach Punch.
"Sandslash quickly, counter them with Poison Jab!" Valen commanded to no avail as Sandslash was unable to concentrate due to Gurdurr's relentless assault.
"Let's finish this, Gurdurr use Dynamic Punch!" Golen commanded while Gurdurr's blueish white fists soon adapted an explosive red color as it struck down Sandslash. "Sandslash!" Valen exclaimed as his Pokémon was promptly knocked out by Gurdurr's attack. "Sandslash is unable to battle, Gurdurr is the winner and the victor is Golen!" the referee declared. "Alright!" Vlad and Carly exclaimed. "What an impressive victory." the Nurse announced. "It was a hard fought battle and I congratulate both sides for giving it their all." Turner stated as Alder smiled.
"You were amazing Gurdurr." Golen congratulated the proud Muscular Pokémon as he recalled it into its Pokéball. "Thanks for your hard work Sandslash." Valen thanked his fallen Pokémon as he recalled it.
"That was a good battle, Valen." Golen stated as he held his hand out to the lad. "Yeah, though it would have been better if I won." Valen jokingly replied as he and Golen shared a handshake. "AHHH! I'm not gonna let them outshine me!" Omi shouted as he left to go start his battle. "Now it's time for the fifth battle, Omi versus Phyl!" the Nurse declared. "Let the battle, begin!" the referee shouted.
"Let's win this, Numel!" Omi declared as he called out a yellow, quadruped Pokémon that resembled a Dromedary camel with a volcano-like hump on its back. The hump was green at the very top and faded out into yellow with small green spots. It contained magma of almost 2,200°F. It had bangs on top of its head, sleepy eyes with brown circles around them, and short, stubby legs. "A Numel?" Carly mumbled as she pulled out her Pokédex.
Numel, the Numb Pokémon. The magma in its body reaches 2,200 degrees F. Its hump gets smaller when it uses Fire-type moves.
"Go, Audino!" Phyl declared as he called out the Hearing Pokémon. "We'll win this, alright Numel use Flame Charge!" Omi commanded as Numel repeatedly stomped on the ground until a cloud of dust covered its body. Then, it emerged from the cloud while surrounded by an orb of red-yellow flames and crashed into its opponent. "What power!" Vlad expressed in amazement. "We won't lose that easily, Audino use Ice Beam!" Phyl ordered in response as Audino rose to its feet and it then opened its mouth and formed an orb of light blue energy in front of its mouth. It then fired multiple light blue beams of energy from the orb at the opponent. "Dodge it!" Omi commanded as Numel narrowly dodged the attack.
"Audino use Drain Punch!" Phyl exclaimed as Audino's fist became surrounded in a green orb of energy. It then punched the Numb Pokémon. "Numel!" Omi shouted as the Numb Pokémon was sent reeling.
"Oh my, what a powerful attack!" the Nurse exclaimed. "How will Omi counter this?" Turner wondered. "Come on Omi!" Golen yelled.
"You can win this!" Valen added along as he and Golen cheered on the orange-haired boy. "I don't need you guys to tell me what I already know, let's go Numel!" Omi exclaimed to the Numb Pokémon, who rose to its feet. "Now use Bulldoze!" Omi commanded as Numel stomped down on the ground and created a shock wave on the ground. The shock wave then crashed towards the Hearing Pokémon. "Audino!" Phyl shouted. "Now finish it with Lava Plume!" Omi confidently declared as Numel caused an explosion around it, creating a mix of smog and fire that covered the area and hit Audino, knocking it out. "Audino is unable to battle, Numel is the winner and the victor is Omi!" the referee declared.
"Omi has managed to make it past the second round in an impressive fashion!" the Nurse exclaimed. "He's skilled beyond his years." Alder expressed. "Fraxure!" Fraxure happily exclaimed.
"That was amazing!" Vlad added along. "Alright, he won." Valen joyfully stated. "I'll make sure to beat him when we battle." Golen declared. "Emoh, emoh." Emolga muttered. "Thanks a lot Numel." Omi thanked the Numb Pokémon as he recalled it. "Alright, since I passed the second rounds like he did then I know I might get my chance to beat him in the next round." Omi thought to himself with a grin as he left the battlefield. "Now it is time for the sixth match, Logan versus George!" Turner declared.
"Logan, huh?" Carly muttered to herself as she intently looked on. "Dearest Carly, I dedicate this to you!" Logan exclaimed. "What a weirdo." Amy expressed. "You have no idea." Carly replied.
"Let the battle, begin!" the referee shouted. "Go, Piloswine!" George shouted as he called out the Swine Pokémon. "Hmph, come on out, Corphish!" Logan declared as he called out the Ruffian Pokémon.
"This will be a clash between the Water-type, Corphish, and the Ground/Ice-type, Piloswine, just how will this battle turn out?" the Nurse asked.
"*sigh* This won't be any fun, hey you. I'll give you three moves, if you don't hit me or finish me off in those three moves than I guarantee that I'll finish you in one." Logan arrogantly declared. "That seems fair, what a great guy." Golen obliviously expressed. "Honestly do you listen to yourself when you speak?" Amy asked her brother in annoyance.
"Piloswine use Take Down!" George commanded as Piloswine's body became surrounded by a golden aura and it charged towards Corphish, who simply avoided the attack.
"That's one attack down." Valen muttered as he and the others looked on. "You should use the next two moves wisely." Logan mockingly told his opponent. "Piloswine use Mud Bomb!" George commanded. Piloswine then released a ball of brown mud from its mouth at the Ruffian Pokémon, who merely blocked it. "You have one move left." Logan informed his opponent. "One move is plenty, Rock Smash!" George commanded while the Swine Pokémon's tusks glowed orange as it charged at Corphish.
"Can he really win in one move?" Carly wondered as Kim indifferently looked on.
"And that's three, Corphish use Brick Break!" Logan arrogantly declared as Corphish's claw glowed white and it smashed the Swine Pokémon into the ground. "Oh my, what a powerful strike!" the Nurse declared. "Piloswine is unable to battle, Corphish is the winner and the victor is Logan!" the referee shouted. "He really did win in one move." Omi muttered. "He already knew he'd win in one hit but he just made a show out of it to make himself look better." Amy stated. "What an egotist." Tom expressed. "Like you have any right to call someone else that." Carly mumbled.
"Too easy, Kim, Carly! Did you see that?!" Logan eagerly asked as Kim ignored him while Carly looked away in embarrassment.
"Alright, now it is time for the second to last match of the second round, Kal versus Victor!" Turner announced as the two trainers stepped up to the battlefield. "Alright, this is the perfect time to get myself a soda." Golen expressed as he and Emolga walked away. "Mr. Golen shouldn't you stay and watch the match?" Vlad asked his companion. "Don't worry it's no one we know so I'm not really gonna miss anything." Golen answered. "Good point, hey wait for me!" Omi exclaimed as he and Fraxure ran after the goggles wearing lad. "Let me come along too!" Valen added along as he followed the duo. "Hey get me a drink too!" Amy exclaimed as the trio left.
"Let the battle begin!" the referee declared as the seventh battle got underway.
"Man this really has been a fun tournament." Golen expressed as he drank a soda. "Yeah, it'll only keep on getting better." Omi added along. "You guys can talk, after all you're both still in the tournament." Valen sulked. "Oh come on, there's always next time." Golen told the hat wearing lad. "Yeah, you did the best you could." Omi stated. "You guys are only making me feel worse." Valen gloomily replied as the trio walked through the hall.
"Don't worry Valen, when I win the tournament by technicalities you should be in 6th place." Golen stated. "Shouldn't it be 5th place?" Omi asked. "Eh who knows, as long as I win it should help the standings of everyone I beat." Golen chuckled as he briefly looked away before bumping into another lad. "S…sorry." Golen apologized as he stood to his feet.
"It's nothing, I apologize for not looking where I was going." the lad said in response as he rose to his feet as well.
He had smooth olive colored hair along with dark green colored eyes. He wore a green suit along with a black dress shirt, a white tie and black dress shoes. "It's alright, were you on your way to the stadium?" Golen asked the lad.
"Yeah, I was watching the tournament and I've got to say that the three of you were really amazing." the lad informed the trio. "Thanks, I really was great." Golen happily answered.
"He was saying that about all of us!" Valen retorted as the lad glanced over at Golen's Emolga. "You're Emolga really looks amazing. The bond between the two of you is incredible, I can tell that its power is outstanding." the boy told the young trainer before he was seemingly disturbed by something. "Huh? Is something wrong?" Golen asked the lad. "No, it's nothing. I'm sorry to have wasted your time, I wish the three of you the best of luck in the tournament." the lad told the trio as he departed from the stadium. "He was a nice guy." Omi expressed.
"Yeah, but his last statement really didn't feel too nice to me." Valen sulked. "Emoh." Emolga muttered as it stared at the lad as he left.
"Miltank use Rollout!" Victor commanded as Miltank pulled itself into a ball and rolled towards Kal's Koffing with incredible speed and power. "Koffing counter it with Gyro Ball!" Kal commanded in response as Koffing spun around and its body became surrounded by a light blue aura. It then spun into the Milk Cow Pokémon as they collided to a stalemate. "Keep using Rollout!" Victor commanded. "Koffing intercept it again with Gyro Ball!" Kal commanded as the Pokémon repeatedly smashed into each other. Due to the effects of Miltank's Rollout it managed to overpower Koffing's Gyro Ball. "No, Koffing!" Kal exclaimed. "Now Miltank finish this with Dizzy Punch!" Victor commanded as the Milk Cow Pokémon's fist began to emit a multicolored glow as it punched the Poison Gas Pokémon, knocking it out.
"Koffing is unable to battle, Miltank is the victor and the winner is Victor!" the referee declared. "And with this we have now reached the final battle of the second rounds." the Nurse declared.
"About time, they might as well hand me the victory." Kim arrogantly declared as she walked out of the stands to go to the battlefield. "You better not lose after I bet on you, Tom." Amy told the violet-haired lad. "You need not worry, failure and I are an oxymoron." Tom confidently grinned. "No they aren't." Vlad expressed, not realizing what Tom actually meant. "Vlad please, you are making me look bad." Tom whispered to the lad. "My apologies, Master Tom." Vlad whispered in response. "So it's Kim against Tom." Carly muttered to herself as Golen, Valen and Omi returned from their break.
"My darling against that mediocre trainer? Well her victory is all but certain." Logan smirked. "The final battle of the second rounds, Tom versus Kim." Turner declared.
"This will surely be an exciting battle." Alder declared. "You should know that I won't be holding back." Kim told her opponent. "Neither will I. After our tag battle in the past and your last battle with Carly, I am actually quite eager to see the prowess that you are so proud of." Tom answered. "Heh someone of your level shouldn't be so confident, after all your only one of Carly's boy toys." Kim rudely stated.
"Such sophomoric insults, you are almost as bad as Logan." Tom replied. "What was that!?" Logan yelled. "Let the eighth and final battle, BEGIN!" the referee shouted.
"Ursaring lend me your strength!" Tom declared as he called out the Hibernator Pokémon. "Tom's Teddiursa evolved!?" Carly exclaimed in shock. "It evolved during the training battle yesterday." Vlad happily answered. "You guys sure had fun when I was gone." Carly sulked. "An Ursaring, eh? Hmph show yourself!" Kim declared as she called out an ursine, quadruped creature capable of standing on its hind legs. It had bluish white fur with a shaggy tuft at its rear. Three spikes of ice hung from its lower jaw, forming a beard. Its face consisted of a long snout, beady black eyes, and rounded ears. Its large forepaws had black claws and paw pads. "A Beartic?" Amy mumbled to herself as Carly pulled out her Pokédex.
Beartic, the Freezing Pokémon. The evolved form of Cubchoo. They love the cold seas of the north. They create pathways across the ocean waters by freezing their own breath.
"She evolved her Cubchoo." Carly expressed as she recalled Kim's Cubchoo. "What a sight. The final battle will be between Ursaring against Beartic!" Turner announced. "Two ursine Pokémon, this should be an interesting battle." Tom expressed to the pink-haired lass. "You wish, my Beartic will take your Ursaring out without a problem." Kim retorted. "I would not be too confident in that belief." Tom smirked. "This'll be an easy win, Beartic use Icicle Crash!" Kim confidently commanded as Beartic took in a deep breath and released a wind with light blue sparkles in it from its mouth into the air. Then, small clumps of ice formed in the wind and grew longer and larger, forming into sharp icicles. The icicles then rained down over the Hibernator Pokémon.
"As if that would work, Ursaring intercept it with Slash!" Tom commanded in response as Ursaring's claws glowed white and it slashed the icicles, destroying them. "Amazing!" Vlad exclaimed.
"Not bad but you won't be able to counter this, Beartic use Ice Punch!" Kim ordered as the Freezing Pokémon's fist was surrounded by swirling energy which changed from white to light blue. It then charged towards Ursaring. "Ursaring avoid it!" Tom quickly commanded as Ursaring dodged Beartic's Ice Punch. "Now use Rock Tomb!" Tom commanded to the Hibernator Pokémon. Ursaring then put its hands together to the side of itself and silver sparkles formed in between its hands. The sparkles then expand, forming into a silver orb of energy. The orb then grew larger until it was much bigger than Ursaring's body. Finally, the glow faded out of the orb, forming into a large gray boulder with a transparent silver glow. Ursaring then threw the orb towards the Freezing Pokémon.
"Beartic, intercept that with Brine!" Kim quickly shouted as Beartic fired a powerful stream of water from its mouth at the boulder. The two attacks briefly clashed as the collision ended in a stalemate.
"It appears to be an evenly matched battle so far!" the Nurse announced. "Both sides are powerful but how will they manage to turn the tide in their favor?" Alder wondered.
"You are quite skilled." Tom admitted. "That was obvious." Kim conceitedly answered. "Ursaring use Slash!" Tom commanded. "Beartic use Ice Punch!" Kim ordered in response as the two Pokémon charged towards each other. "Now aim at the ground!" Kim quickly declared to everyone's surprise. "Bear-tic!" Beartic shouted as it punched the ground where Ursaring stood, which resulted in the Hibernator Pokémon's feet being frozen right where it stood. "A…amazing." Tom expressed.
"Kim has shrewdly used Ice Punch to freeze Ursaring in place, how will Tom counter this!?" Turner wondered. "Tom!" Golen shouted. "That Kim…" Carly thought to herself.
"Marvelous, now tear that mediocre trainer apart!" Logan joyfully exclaimed. "Now Beartic, pummel them with Ice Punch!" Kim smugly declared as Beartic pulled back both of its fists, which were surrounded by swirling energy which changed from white to light blue. "Ursaring guard yourself!" Tom told the Hibernator Pokémon who put up its guard. Beartic then began to repeatedly punch at Ursaring who remained in place as it shielded itself from the punches. "Beartic has unleashed a barrage of fists at Ursaring, has the battle already been decided?" the Nurse asked. "Hey Tom don't just stand there and do nothing, counter her already!" Amy yelled at the violet-haired lad.
"Don't worry Ms. Amy, Sensei knows what he is doing." Vlad assured the red-haired lass. "He's a former Gym Leader, he should be able to handle it." Valen expressed as Ursaring continued to block against Beartic's attacks.
"Yeah, from my own experience battling him in the past, I can tell that it'll take more than just that to keep him down." Omi added along. "That's true but Kim is stronger than any of you know." Carly informed everyone as the Freezing Pokémon ceased its assault. "Gumme." Ursaring muttered as it stood in place.
"Ursaring maintain your focus, an opening will present itself in due time." Tom told the Hibernator Pokémon.
"Not bad, but this one will take you out for sure, Ice Punch!" Kim commanded as Beartic once again charged at the Hibernator Pokémon. "Ursaring shield yourself!" Tom ordered as Ursaring once again blocked Beartic's onslaught. "G…gume." Ursaring muttered as it winced in pain. "Has the damage from the Ice Punches finally taken their toll?" the Nurse wondered.
"Now's our chance, Ice Punch!" Kim quickly commanded while Beartic seemingly punched the Hibernator Pokémon in the gut as Tom merely smiled. "W…what!?" Kim expressed in shock as Ursaring managed to grabbed Beartic's arm and firmly held on to its arm as it merely grinned at its opponent. "Feigning damage to deceive your opponent, that was a tactic that you utilized in your clash against Carly." Tom confidently smirked. "You fiend, unhand Kim's Pokémon!" Logan angrily yelled at the violet-haired lad.
"Tch Beartic use Ice Punch!" Kim shouted as the Freezing Pokémon prepared to attack with its remaining arm.
"I think not, Ursaring use Brick Break!" Tom quickly declared while Ursaring's palm glowed white as it punched Beartic in its ribs. "Beartic!" Beartic wailed as it was sent reeling from the Hibernator Pokémon's attack. "Beartic!" Kim called out in shock. "Awesome!" Golen exclaimed in awe. "As expected of Sensei." Vlad smiled as Carly looked on in astonishment. "Now use Brick Break to free yourself from your constraints!" Tom commanded as Ursaring used Brick Break on the ground, freeing itself from the ice.
"How deceptive, you could have freed yourself at any time but instead chose to do that just so you could catch me off guard." Kim stated to the former Gym Leader.
"Indeed, though I mostly had left the results of that reckless decision to luck. Thankfully Ursaring did not take any extensive damage from your onslaught." Tom answered to Kim's annoyance. "Stop talking and kick her butt!" Amy yelled. "Beartic use Brine!" Kim commanded as Beartic attacked the Hibernator Pokémon. "Ursaring, Slash!" Tom called out in response as Ursaring's attack managed to overwhelm Beartic's Brine. "Now, Rock Tomb!" Tom quickly exclaimed as Ursaring attacked the Freezing Pokémon. "Intercept it with Ice Punch!" Kim ordered as Beartic smashed the boulder into the ground.
"Both sides are evenly matched! Neither Ursaring or Beartic are willing to let the other outdo them!" the Nurse exclaimed as Ursaring and Beartic grappled with each other.
They butted heads with each other as they both retreated to the opposite sides of the battlefield. "Since when was Tom this good?" Carly anxiously thought to herself. "Beartic use Ice Punch!" Kim ordered. "Ursaring use Brick Break!" Tom commanded in response as the two Pokémon charged at each other once more. Both sides fiercely attacked each other as they both blocked and managed to strike each other with their respective attacks while both Pokémon refused to fallback, being driven by their mutual desire to succeed.
"Both of them are pretty determined." Kim expressed. "Yeah, could it be their desire to prove who the more dominant ursine Pokémon is or is it merely their loyalty to us that makes them fight so hard?" Tom wondered in amusement as the Pokémon ceased their clash. "This is an intense fight, who will be the winner of this fiercely fought battle?" Turner wondered. "Let's settle this." Kim thought to herself. "Time for the conclusion." Tom muttered.
"Superpower!" both trainers simultaneously commanded as both Pokémon's bodies became surrounded in a light blue aura.
They both dashed at each other as they concurrently struck each other with devastating lariats. The result of their clash created a powerful shock wave that spread across the battlefield. Everyone silently looked on as they eagerly awaited the decision to see who the victor of the battle would be. "Tom." Carly muttered. "Gumme…" Ursaring muttered as it started to fall back. "Hmph looks like this is my…." Kim was interrupted as Ursaring regained its footing and proceeded to smash the Freezing Pokémon into the ground. "Loss?" Kim mumbled in absolute shock.
"Beartic is unable to battle, Ursaring is the winner and the victor of the eighth battle is Tom!" the referee declared as the crowd exploded into cheers. "Alright!" Vlad happily exclaimed as everyone happily looked on.
"Hah I expected him to win." Amy confidently expressed. "Alright, Tom won!" Omi joyfully exclaimed. "Heh he's much better than I expected." Valen admitted. "Was Tom always this strong?" Carly thought to herself in astonishment. "I…I lost?" Kim muttered to herself as she recalled her fallen Beartic. "A job well done, Ursaring." Tom congratulated his Ursaring as he recalled it into its Pokéball. "Damn you, Tom! How dare you do that to Kim!" Logan angrily shouted in irritation at Tom's victory. "With this, the second round has been concluded!" Turner declared.
"It truly was an amazing round of battles and tomorrow will surely continue with the momentum that was built today." Alder announced. "The next rounds will be held tomorrow, all competitors please rest up tonight so you can be prepared for tomorrow's battles." the Nurse added along as everyone exited to arena. "Man Tom, that was amazing." Golen told the violet-haired lad. "Why thank you, I must admit had Ursaring not evolved during our training battle than my failure would have been inevitable." Tom answered. "Yeah, it probably would have been like that for me." Golen chuckled. "It definitely would have been like that!" Valen retorted.
"Someone who lost in the second round has no right to speak like that." Golen mockingly told Valen. "Nice one, Mr. Golen." Vlad complimented his companion as Valen sulked.
"Kozu!" Golen exclaimed as he noticed the silver-haired lad walking alone. "Hey wait up!" Golen called out as he followed the lad. "Koz…." Golen stopped in the middle of his sentence as he noticed Omi confront the lad. "Hey you." Omi called out to Kozu, who looked back. "Heh it's been a while, brother." Omi grinned as he greeted Kozu. "Brother? Wait so Mr. Kozu and Omi are siblings?" Vlad asked in shock. "It appears so." Tom answered. "Omi…I figured you'd find me eventually but I never expected for you to have started your journey already let alone enter this tournament." Kozu admitted to the orange-haired lad.
"Heh well of course I started now, I mean how else would I get to battle you if I didn't become a trainer as soon as I could?" Omi chuckled. "I guess you've got a point." Kozu calmly replied.
"Who would have figured that siblings would enter the same tournament?" Valen stated. "Hold on, they can't be siblings I mean they don't even have the same hair color!" Golen complained. "But Mr. Golen, you and Ms. Amy don't have the same hair color either." Vlad whispered to his companion. "That's different, I mean they don't resemble each other in the slightest." Golen replied. "Get over it." Valen muttered to the goggles wearing lad. "Emoh, emoh." Emolga muttered.
"Hey Kozu, you never told me that Omi was your brother." Golen told his rival. "Golen, you know my brother?" Omi asked in confusion.
"Yeah, in fact we even decided to…" "Don't speak of that promise." Kozu declared as he interrupted Golen's sentence. "Kozu…" Golen muttered in surprise at how different his rival was compared to usual. "I'll see you two tomorrow, I have things to attend to." Kozu gloomily muttered as he left. "What's wrong with him?" Omi asked as Golen remained silent. "Hey Kozu!" Golen yelled out to the silver-haired lad.
"Omi, Tom, this goes out to the two of you as well." Golen informed the two trainers. "I promise that I'll defeat all of you and win the PWT!" Golen confidently declared.
Narration: The second rounds of the Pokémon World Tournament have finally concluded. What awaits Golen and the others in the third round?
