"No. No way!" Bella said, shaking her head angrily. She shot a glance in my direction as I wore a smug smile on my face. "No, this doesn't count. I stopped aging three days ago. I am eighteen forever."
"Whatever," Alice said, ignoring her protest.Must this always be so difficult? "We're celebrating anyways, so suck it up." Alice shrugged.
Bella sighed and give up fighting with Alice.
See! That's more like it! Alice said has her smile stretched wider.
"Are you ready to open your present?" Alice sang.
"Presents," I corrected. I pulled out another key-to the new car-this one with a blue bow.
"Mine first," Alice said. Before I could fight with her, she stuck her tongue out at me. Don't start too!
"Mine is closer."
"But look at how she's dressed." Alice groaned. "It's been killing me all day. This is clearly the priority." It pains me how she treats my babies. Alice sobbed. "I know-I'll play you for it," Alice suggested. "Rock, paper, scissors."
Oh Alice. Jasper laughed.
Really, shorty? Emmett sighed.
"Why don't you just tell me who wins?" I said, sarcastically.
Good call, Edward. "I do," Alice beamed. "Excellent."
"It's probably better that I wait for morning, anyways," I smiled at Bella, before gesturing towards Jacob and Seth. "I think it might be more fun if Jacob was awake for the big reveal, don't you agree? So that someone there is able to express the right level of enthusiasm?"
Bella grinned back, getting my point.
"Yay," Alice sang. "Bella give Ness-Renesmee to Rosalie."
"Where does she usually sleep?"
"In Rose's arms. Or Jacob's. Or Esme's." Alice shrugged. "You get the picture. She has never been set down in her entire life. She's going to be the most spoiled half-vampire in existence." I don't think Donald Trump's kids got that much attention.
I laughed at Alice comment.
"She is also the most unspoiled half-vampire in existence," Rosalie said, taking Renesmee into her arms. "The beauty of being one of a kind." Rosalie smiled at Bella.
My sister and wife exchanged a look. One of those look were they're speaking a language only they know; only they seem to understand. Without any other distracting, Alice shoved the key in Bella's hand, grabbed her by the elbow and steered her towards the back door.
"Let's go, let's go," Alice chirped.
"Is it outside?"
"Sort of," Alice said, pushing her forward. More like this way, than that way, a little towards the right and X marks the spot. Alice said.
"Enjoy your gift," Rosalie said. "It's from all of us. Esme especially."
"Aren't you coming, too?"
"We'll give you a chance to appreciate it alone," Rosalie said. "You can tell us about it…later."
Yea, like Edward is going to let her get out of bed. Emmett snickered.
Alice tugged on Bella's elbow and unexpectedly Bella began to smile.
Take your time Edward, we got this. Rosalie smiled at me.
"There's the enthusiasm I'm looking for," whispered approvingly. Alice dropped Bella's arm then bound, twice and leaped over the river.
"C'mon, Bella," Alice called from the other side. I can't take it any longer.
Bella and I jumped over the river at the same time. The feeling of having Bella at my side, in this new form was so new to me. I still felt the need to help her, to protect her but I knew that she was more than capable of caring for herself. We followed Alice, through the forest, nearing the cottage. Suddenly Alice whirled around and rushed towards Bella.
"Don't attack me," Alice warned, as she climbed on Bella's back.
"What are you doing?" Bella demanded. She started to squirm as Alice wrapped her hands around her face.
"Making sure you can't see."
"I could take care of that without the theatrics," I suggested.
"You might let her cheat. Take her hand and lead her forward."
"Alice, I-"
"Don't bother, Bella. We're doing this my way." Alice argued. Everyone else does it! God, Bella! So stubborn!
"Just a few seconds more, Bella," I whispered in her ear, as I placed my hand in hers. "Then she'll go annoy someone else."
Alice stuck her tongue out at me.
I pulled her forward. With such ease, Bella trusted my judgment and allowed me to lead her towards are new home.
"You might be a little more appreciative," Alice nagged me. "This is much for you as it is for her." It's still the honeymoon phase.
"True. Thank you again, Alice."
"Yeah, yeah. Okay." Alice said. "Stop there," she said excited this time. "Turn her just a little to the right. Yes, like that. Okay. Are you ready?" She squeaked. She's going to love it!
"I'm ready." Bella said.
Alice hopped down and released her hands around Bella's face. Bella stood, silent, staring at the cottage; I was unsure if it was suitable for her. For us. I'll admit it was a tiny stone cottage. There was a little path of flat stones that led to the arched wooden door. Esme thought it would be important to place roses under some of the windows. It was nothing grand compared to other houses we owned, but small trivia things have always meant the most to Bella. She suddenly curled her hand around the key, still remaining silent.
"What do you think?" Alice softly spoke. Say something!
Bella's opened her mouth but nothing came out.
"Esme thought we might like a place of our own for a while, but she didn't want us too far away," I murmured. "And she loves any excuse to renovate. This little place has been crumbling away out here for at least a hundred years."
Well? Does she like it or not? Alice hissed.
Again Bella said nothing.
"Don't you like it?" Alice face fell. "I'm mean, I'm sure we could fix it up differently, if you want. Emmett was all for adding a few thousand square feet, a second story, columns, and a tower, but Esme thought you would like it best the way it as meant to look." Alice said, rushing through her sentence. "If she was wrong, we can get back to work. It won't take long to-"
"Shh!" Bella suddenly said.
Alice pressed her lips together, waiting to Bella to say something. Please, oh please, love it!
"You're giving me a house for my birthday?" Bella whispered.
"Us," I corrected. "And it's no more than a cottage. I think the word house implies more legroom."
"No knocking my house," Bella whispered to me.
"You like it." Alice beamed.
Bella shook her head.
"Love it?"
Bella nodded again.
"I can't wait to tell Esme!"
"Why didn't she come?"
Alice's smiled flat line a little. "Oh, you know…they all remember how you are about presents. They didn't want to put you under too much pressure to like it."
"But of course I love it. How could I not?"
"They'll like that." Alice said, patting Bella's arm. "Anyhoo, your closet it stocked. Use it wisely. And…I guess that's everything."
Alice started walking back before saying, "Edward knows his way around. I'll stop by…later Call me if you can't match your clothes right." She gave Belle an uncertain look and then smiled. "Jazz wants to hunt. See you." Enjoy! Don't worry about anything!
Alice was gone and I was alone with Bella.
"That was weird," Bella said. "Am I really that bad? They didn't have to stay away. Now I feel guilty. I didn't even thank her right. We should go back, tell Esme-"
"Bella, don't be silly. No one thinks you're that unreasonable."
"Then what-"
"Alone time is their other gift. Alice was trying to be subtle about it."
"Oh."
"Let me show what they've done," I said, pulling on her hand.
Suddenly Bella laughed. A beautiful sound, I'll always want to hear and never tire of it.
"Do I get to hear the joke?" I asked as I led her to the front door of our new home.
"It's not a very good one," She told me. "I was just thinking- today is the first and last day of forever. It's kind of hard to wrap my head around it. Even with all this extra room for wrapping." Bella laughed again.
I couldn't help but chuckle with her. I held out my hand towards the first door, waiting for her to do the honors. Bella place the key in the lock and turned it.
"You're such a natural at this, Bella; I forgot how very strange this all must be for you. I wish I could hear it." I swooped down and yanked her up into my arms.
"Hey!"
"Thresholds are part of my job description," I reminded her. "But I'm curious. Tell me what you're thinking about right now."
I lightly kicked opened the door and stepped through into our stone living.
"Everything," She told me. "All at the same time, you know. Good things and things worry about and things are new. How I keep using too many superlatives in my head. Right now, I'm thinking that Esme is an artist. It's so perfect!"
Bella looked around, taking in all the different pieces of furniture and features Esme had added to the cottage. Blue and green flames danced in the beehive fireplaces, giving the cottage ease and comfort. The floor was made of smooth flat stones, plain but nothing was plain through Bella's eyes. Esme bought some of the painting from the main house to our house, the ones that Bella really enjoyed.
"We're lucky Esme thought to add an extra room. No one was planning for Ness-Renesmee."
Bella frowned. "Not you, too," She complained.
"Sorry, love. I hear it in their thoughts all the time, you know. It's rubbing off on me."
Bella sighed.
"I'm sure you're dying to see closet. Or, at least I'll tell Alice that you were, to make her feel good."
"Should I be afraid?"
"Terrified." I teased.
I carried her down a narrow hallway, towards the bedrooms.
"That will be Renesmee's room," I said, gesturing towards the empty room. "They didn't have time to do much with it, what with the angry werewolves…"
Bella laughed again.
"Here's our room. Esme tried to bring some of her island back here for us. She guessed that we would get attached."
In the center of out room was a huge white bed with a canopy over it. The back wall had a big glass door that opened into a garden, which Esme add at the last minute. The roses Esme added were know climbing up the wall. The small round pond was soothing and calm as the water cascaded down the stone edges.
"Oh," Bella gasped.
"I know," I whispered.
I smiled and then laughed. "The closet is through those double doors. I should warn you-it's bigger than this room."
Bella never once looked at the door. I curled my arms on her-pulling her closer to me- my lips inches from her. I was dying to know what she was thinking, how all this was feeling to her but suddenly the electricity in the air changed.
"We're going to tell Alice that I ran right to the clothes," Bella whispered, twisting her hands through my hair, pulling even closer. "We're going to tell her. I spent hours in there playing dress-up. We're going to lie."
I saw, in her eyes, an intensity that I had never seen in Bella. I pulled her face in mine, frantic to have her lips against mine. I moaned at the sudden contact of our lips. I began pulling on her clothes first before tearing at my own. We pulled each other to in the floor, unable to make it to the bed. But at this point, I needed Bella in every way possible.
She laid beneath me, so flawless and perfect. She was my own silk heaven, laid before me like an offering. I didn't have to keep in mind that Bella was a fragile human, she was as strong as I was-even stronger. Her kiss was like a drug that I was desperate to have. Her flawless, creamy body was an addiction I would never quit. She looked into my eyes and smiled, biting her lip. She wrapped her arms around my neck, when her tongue entered my mouth; it was the sweetest honey I had even tasted. She took the air out my lungs but at the same time gave it back to me from hers.
Our moans of pleasure and delight became deafening as we indulged in the feeling of our own passion and lust. Bella wrapped her legs tightly around me and in that moment we became one. It felt like the first time but beyond intense and passionate. We fit perfectly together like two puzzle pieces as our bodies moved together as one.
Higher and higher, Bella and I climbed into our own sweet heavenly abyss. Bella arched her back and I felt electricity shooting through her body. Ecstasy descended between the both of us. Laying there with one knee drawn up, eyes closed she was pure beauty. I kissed her forehead, her eyelids, her nose and lastly her lips.
Everything around us seemed to pause, for just us. Time stopped as we were cradled in our piece of heaven.
It almost felt like weeks had gone by, as Bella and I consumed one another. Dawn was near pulling us to Earth and gifting us a heavenly song from a lark.
"Do you miss it?" Bella asked.
"Miss what?" I murmured.
"All of it-warmth, the soft skin, the tasty smell…I'm not losing anything at all, and I just wondered if it was a little bit sad for you that you were."
I laughed. "It would be hard to find someone less sad then I am now. Impossible, I'd venture. Not many people get every single thing they want, plus all the things they didn't think to ask for, in the same day."
"Are you avoiding the question?"
"You are warm," I said, pressing my hand to her face.
I began tracing my fingers, very slowly down her face, along her jaw to her throat and then down to her waist.
"You are soft." I whispered into her ear. "And as for the scent, well, I couldn't say I missed that. Do you remember the scent of those hikers on our hunt?"
"I've been trying very hard not to."
"Imagine kissing that." I said, inches away from her lips.
"Oh."
"Precisely. So the answer is no. I am purely full of joy, because I am missing nothing. No one has more than I do now." I said, kissing her.
After hours of sweet heavenly ecstasy, the sun had peered in through the window.
"How long does this go on? I mean, Carlisle and Esme, Em and Rose, Alice and Jasper-they don't spend all day locked in their rooms. They're out in public, fully clothed, all the time. Does this…craving ever let up?" Bella said, tucking herself closer to me.
"That's difficult to say. Everyone is different and, well, so far you're the very most different of all. The average young vampire is too obsessed with thirst to notice much else for a while. With the average vampire, though, after first year, other needs make themselves known. Neither thirst nor any other desire really ever fades. It's simply a matter of learning to balance them, learning to prioritize and manage…"
"How long?"
I wrinkled my nose and smiled. "Rosalie and Emmett were the worst. It took a solid decade before I could stand to be within a five-mile radius of them. Even Carlisle and Esme had a difficult time stomaching it. They kicked the happy couple out eventually. Esme built them a house, too. It was grander than this one, but then, Esme knows what Rose likes, and she knows what you like."
"So, after ten years, then? She asked. "Everybody is normal again? Like they are now?"
I smiled again. "Well, I'm not sure what you mean by normal. You're seen my family going about life in a fairly human way, but you're been sleeping night." I winked at her. "There's a tremendous amount of time left over when you don't have to sleep. It makes balancing your…interests quite easy. There's a reason why I'm the best musician in the family, why-besides Carlisle-I've read the most books, studied the most sciences, becomes fluent in the most languages…Emmett would have you believe that I'm such know-it-all because of the mind reading, but the truth is that I've just had a lot of free time."
Our conversation end with us holding one other and laughing. After this date, this moment, Bella and I were connected on whole new level. A connection so rarely seen, evenly in our kind.
I HOPE U ENJOYED! WELL, GOTTA GO! LOTS TO DO!
