Katniss's POV
Three days later..
We had a baby shower for Annie yesterday. She's due in a week.
Peeta, Finnick, and Gale surprised her with the baby's room. Peeta painted the walls, Finnick bought all the baby stuff and Gale built the baby's crib.
I tip toe downstairs and see that Peeta is sketching something? It looks more like he's writing.
"Hey." I walk towards the couch.
"Oh!" He jumps and shuts the sketch book." Hey."
"What were you writing?" I ask him.
"Just a to do list." He sets his sketch book down on the coffee table.
"Oh." I say and he pulls me towards him. I lay my head on his lap and he strokes my hair." Peeta?"
"Hm?" He says.
"What were you going to ask me in the hotel?" I say and he stops stroking my hair. He doesn't say anything for a good minute." Peeta?"
" Katniss," He runs a hand through his hair and I sit up," I've wanted to ask you this for a while."
"What is it?" I ask him.
"I-" He begins but the phone begins to ring. Damn it!
"Hello." I nearly yell.
"Brainless, get your ass down to the hospital! Annie's water broke!" Johanna yells.
"Shit, ok!" I say and click. I turn to Peeta and say," Annie's water broke."
He quickly puts on his shoes as I put on my boots.
"Peeta, what were you going to ask me?" I ask him
"Nothing." He shakes his head and grabs the car keys.
...
After hours of hearing Annie's cries and yells, we're allowed to see her two at a time.
Peeta and I go in first. I'm hesitant at first because I expect to see blood all over the place, and a bloody baby but surprisingly; no.
Annie's asleep and Finnick is holding a baby.
"Meet Finnick jr." He hands the baby, slowly, to Peeta.
I see Peeta's eyes light up as he see's the sleeping baby.
"Eight pounds seven ounces." Finnick states proudly.
"He's gorgeous." Peeta says.
"He gets it from me." Finnick says and I laugh.
"Want to hold him Kat?" Peeta asks me and I start to panic.
"Uh, no, I'll probably drop him. Or he'll start to cry-" I start to ramble.
"Afraid my son is going to charm your pants off?" Finnick chuckles.
"No, I-" I freeze. I'm just not good with kids.
"It'll be fine." Peeta places Finnick jr. in my arms. I glance down at the baby and see that he's sleeping. He whimpers and scowls a bit. He's gorgeous.
"He's really handsome Finnick." I say.
"Thanks." Finnick says.
I hand the baby to Finnick and feel cold. I instantly want the baby back- Katniss, stop it! It's Finnick and Annie's kid we're talking about! Plus, you don't even want kids.
"We better get going, Johanna and Gale are waiting to see you." Peeta snaps me out of my thoughts.
"See you later." Finnick says, looking down at his son.
"Bye." I mumble and leave the room.
Two weeks later...
I'm still wondering what Peeta wanted to ask me. It's been two weeks and he hasn't said a thing about it. I'm starting to think he was going to ask me if I could run the bakery while he went and delivered a cake. He did just ask me that minutes ago.
"Here you go." Rye gives me another batch of cupcakes to frost." What's up with you?"
"Nothing." I say and grab the bag of frosting.
"Don't be so secretive." He says and kneads dough.
"Two weeks ago, Peeta and I were at a hotel and he was going to ask me something but the house maid interrupted. Then about three days later, I asked him what he was going to ask me and he was about to tell me but the phone rang. Since then, he's acted like he was never going to ask me a thing." I say.
"Hmm." He looks into thought. He motions me over and whispers in my ear.
My eyes immediately widen and my cheeks burn because of what he said.
Peeta's POV
hours later..
I go up to rye, who's in my office placing an order for more cheese, and say," Do you know what's wrong with Katniss?"
He stops what he's doing and glances at me with a smirk.
" You'll thank me later." His smirk gets bigger and it stays there as he places the order.
Katniss's POV
It's closing time. I flip the open sign to closed. I'm closing up. It's originally Finnick's job, but he's at home with Annie, helping her out with Finnick jr.
"I'll see you later Brainless." Jo says.
"Tell Gale I said hi." I say and she nods.
Everyone files out of the bakery, except for Peeta and I. I clock out and take off my apron. I grab my coat and see a hand go above mine.
"What's wrong Kat?" Peeta asks. I feel his breath hit the back of my neck.
"Nothing." I say and turn around.
"Quit lying." He says.
"Peeta, it's nothing. Really." I say. There's nothing wrong with me.
He studies me for a moment and nods.
I put my coat on and head out, towards the car. Peeta gets in minutes later and buckles in.
The drive to the house is silent, which I like. When he parks in the driveway, we get out and he opens the house door.
The Next Day...
I wake up and see that it's 12:45. I groan and sit up. My eyes scan the room and I see that Peeta isn't here.
I put his shirt on and see that there's a note on the nightstand.
Kat,
My dad wanted me to help him fix his car. I might be there the rest of the day. I made pancakes for you, there downstairs. Love you.

Peeta's POV
I enter the waffle house and see a blonde woman behind the counter. I go up to her and say," Hi, I'm Peeta Mellark."
"Hi." She smiles." What can I get for you?"
"Can you do me a big favor.." I glance at her name tag." Stephanie."
"Depends." She studies me.
"If you see this girl," I show her a picture of Katniss and scan the menu. Katniss loves cinnamon," Order number twelve, Can you slip this envelope with her meal?"
"You're going to ask her to marry you, aren't you?" She giggles.
"Yeah." I feel a smile growing on my face.
"Don't worry about a thing, I'll take care of it." She smiles really big as I hand her the envelope.
Katniss's POV
Hours later..
Maybe I should surprise Peeta. I haven't seen him all day. I miss him.
I quickly change into a pair of jeans and a baggy t-shirt.I put my boots on and hear several pairs of feet walk in.
"Katniss, where are you!?" I hear Johanna yell.
"Getting dressed!" I inform her and grab my phone.
"Why?" I hear Annie yell.
I race down the stairs and see that Her, Annie and Finnick jr. are here.
"I was going to go see Peeta." I say.
"NO!" The girls shout causing the baby to start crying.
"I'm sorry Finny." Annie pats Finn's butt while humming.
"Why not?" I ask.
"He's really busy." Johanna says and sits down on the couch.
"Finny, momma's sorry." Annie walks back and forth, continuing to pat his butt.
"Here," I say and stretch my hands out. I've seen my dad do this to prim once.
She hands me Finn and I wrap my arms around him, making sure he wont fall. He squirms and cries harder.
I bounce him a little and sing him a song from my favorite childhood movie.

He whimpers a bit and stops squirming.

He closes his eyes and falls asleep. I hide my smile and give him a kiss on the fore head.
I hand him back to Annie who is shocked.
"I should call you in the middle of the night." She says.
"Damn brainless, you're going to be a good mom." Johanna says.
"I'm not having kids." I shake my head. I can imagine them rolling their eyes.
"Yeah, yeah." Johanna says in an annoyed tone.
"I'm going to see Peeta, I'll see you later." I head towards the door but Johanna stops me.
"No!" She whisper yells.
"I want to!" I whisper yell.
"Wait two more hours, then you can go." She says.
"Why should I wait two more hours?" I ask her.
"I'm having difficulties with my marriage and need to talk to someone." Johanna sits down.
Peeta's POV
"This place is amazing." Gale lets out a whistle.
"Yeah." I smile. This is where Katniss and I spend most of our time together.
"She's definitely going to say yes, Pete." Finnick pats me on the back.
Katniss's POV
"Then Gale doesn't put the fucking toilet seat down, so I nearly sit on the fucking toilet water!" Johanna whisper yells.
It's been two hours and Johanna is still complaining about how Gale doesn't put down the toilet seat.
"Just tell him if he doesn't put it down, he wont get lucky." Annie says." That's what I do."
"That's smart." Johanna says.
"Thank you." She smiles.
"I'm going to see Peeta." I get up.
"If you're going to see him, shouldn't you be more fixed up?" Johanna gets up.
"This is fine." I say and motion towards my clothes.
"For an event like this, no." Annie shakes her head.
"What event?" I ask and they smile at each other." What are you talking about Anne? Jo?"
"You'll see." Johanna smirks and they lead me towards my bedroom.
Peeta's POV
"Now what?" Gale asks.
"We just have to write clues on notecards." I say." We have an hour."
Katniss's POV
An hour later..
"Johanna these jeans are too tight." I say.
"That's why they're called super skinny for a reason." Johanna points out and I scowl.
"It's just for a little while." Annie says.
I'm wearing some tight jeans, a nice top, and some boots. Annie hands me a coat and says," To keep you warm."
"There's a heater in my car-" I begin.
"Trust me, you're going to need it." Annie smiles grows even more.
"Uh...Okay?" I put the coat on.
Peeta's POV
"When she gets here, hand her this." I give my dad a card.
"You're going to ask her to marry you, aren't you Pete?" He asks and I nod, not caring if I'm grinning like an idiot.
Katniss's POV
"I have to go catch the game." Johanna gets up.
"I need to get Finn home." Annie says.
"We'll see you around brainless." Johanna says. They both leave before I could say good-bye.
I search for my phone but I can't seem to find it.
I head upstairs and check the room but I don't find it at all. I'll ask Peeta when I see him.
I grab my car keys and get into my car.
When I get to Peeta's father's house, I see that the lights are on. I scan the driveway and see that Rye and Wheat's car is here, but not Peeta's.
I park my car and get out. Cold hair hits me in the face and I clutch my coat closer to me.
I run up to the door and knock. The door opens and I see it's Rye.
"Looking for me?" He gives me a lazy grin.
I roll my eyes and I say," Is Peeta here?"
He smirks really big and says," No."
"Then-" I begin.
"Katniss, is that you?" I hear Mr. Mellark's voice.
"Yes." I say.
"Come in, Come in," he motions me inside the house." Rye, why don't you go watch T.V."
"But-" he begins with his smirk but Mr. Mellark glares at him. "Fine, just messing around."
"Is Peeta here?" I ask him.
"You just missed him, but he told me to give you this." Mr. Mellark hands me a card.
"Thank you." I say and he nods.
Round on the outside, round on the inside
Tear a chunk off and into the black steamy liquid
"What?" I say under my breath. I read the two lines over and over again but it doesn't click.
Does he want me to look for something?
"Steamy black liquid." I think to myself. This just reminds me of Dunk n' Doughnuts. Dunk n' Doughnuts! He wants me to go to Dunk N' Doughnuts!
"Thank you!" I yell and race out the house.
I drive to Dunk n' Doughnuts as fast as I can. When I get there I bolt out the car and into the shop. Peeta isn't here? What did the note mean?
"Hi, can I help you?" An employee smiles.
"Uh." I say looking around the empty shop. Maybe I have to order something?
I go up to the menu and scan it. What fits the description of what was on the card?
I get to the last thing on the menu and I See that it's coffee and a doughnut.
"Number 7 please." I say and the girl behind the counter giggles.
"Ok." She says and tells someone to make a coffee.
I take out my wallet but she says," Oh, it's already paid for."
"What do you mean?" I ask her.
"Someone named Peeta." She smiles and hands me my order with a card.

What? These are all a bunch of actions. How does this- the park!
I head towards my car and eat my doughnut. I drink my coffee on the way the park. When I park in the parking lot, I scan the area. What does he want me to do here?
I scan the area ,with my eyes, once more and see a woman sitting down on the bench. She looks an awful lot like Johanna. I finish up my coffee and head out the car.
"No Gale, Gale just hold it!" The woman hisses.
"Johanna?" I say and she turns around.
"You can go, just make it quick." She says into the phone and clicks." What took you so damn long!"
"Trying to figure out a clue. I was given another card but I don't know what to do now." I say.
"Right." She gives me the card and says," Good luck."
"I thought you were catching the game?" I ask as she walks away.
"There's no game on Mondays." She snorts.
I've driven from a different place to another. All the places that I've been to, are places that Peeta and I would go to for dates.
I pull up at a parking lot and see that Finnick and Annie are sitting patiently in a car. I go up to them and Finnick gives me a card.
"Four seven...eight..." I look up at Finnick and glare at him." This is your phone number!"
I crumble up the card and throw it at him, as he laughs really hard.
"Finnick!" Annie hisses at him.
"Sorry," He gives me a card. " I'll see you around kitty."
I nod and head into my car.
A certain place which we all know very well. This place is loaded with sweets.
"The bakery." I drive towards it. It's starting to get dark.
When I get there, I see that Gale, Wheat and Rye are inside. I get off the car and enter the bakery.
"Have a card for me?" I ask.
"Right here." Gale hands me the card.
"Nice jeans." wheat lets out a whistle.
"Wheat." Rye says under his breath and motions to the cameras.
"Is Peeta here?" I ask. I'm about to go to the back but Wheat says," One hundred percent no."
"Then why did Rye just say cameras?" Rye says.
"Peeta's dad has Peeta check them once a week." Gale says.
"Oh." I say and read the card.
"Go on Catnip." Gale motions towards the door.
"Ok." I say and head out.
I read the card as I walk.
The last place you and Gale hung out.
The waffle house.
...
"Hi, what can I get for you today?" A blonde haired woman asks.
"Uh," I scan the menu. My instincts are telling me cinnamon." Number 12."
She smirks really big and says," Ok."
I take out my wallet but she says," Oh no, it's already paid for."
"Oh, Peeta." I say under my breath.
She gives me a bag and says," Have a nice day."
She smiles really big and I smile back. I take the bag with me in the car and see that there's no note in there. I might as well eat the waffles. I eat my waffles, and spot an envelope in the bag, moments later.
I set my waffles down and open it. There's a letter inside.
Katniss,
I'm writing this as you sleep beside me. I know it's going to be a while before you read this letter but, god I love you. I love you so damn much. I love your hair, personality, your smile, your eyes, etc. This letter would be really long if I list all the things I love about you.
" Peeta, you're so damn cheesy and romantic." I say under my breath as I wipe my tears.
Everyday I'm thankful for having you by my side and I want to let you know that I love you. Always.
P.S. You're probably tired of the scavenger hunt I set up for you, but do you care to meet me by the lake?

I fight a sob and wipe my tears. I put my waffle box back into the bag and start my car.
I drive over to the lake.
...
I park right by Peeta's car and race out. I see that he's sitting down in the back.
"Peeta, you're so damn cheesy." I give him a long kiss. " I missed you."
"I missed you too." He breathes against my lips.
I kiss him again and again until my hunger is satisfied.
He holds me in his arms and says," I love you."
"Always." I mumble into his shirt.
"You read the letter?" I hear the smile in his voice.
"Yes." I say." I love it."
He gives me one last kiss and says," Want to eat actual food?"
I nod and he laughs.
We set down a blanket and he takes out food from the picnic basket.
We eat and joke around. When all the food has vanished, he says," I'll be right back."
"Ok." I say and gaze up at the stars. I hear music starting to play and I smile. We're having the same date we had last time.
He lays down with me and I snuggle closer to his side. He covers us up with the blankets and we gaze at the stars.
After awhile, kiss me by Ed Sheeran starts to play.
"Want to Dance?" Peeta asks and I nod. He lifts himself up and pulls me up into his arms. We sway to the music and I rest my head on his shoulder.
"I wish I could freeze this moment, and live in it forever." He says softly.
"Me too." I say and the song ends.
"I made you a cupcake." He says with a hint of nervousness.
"Really?" I raise a brow and look at him.
He nods and nervously walks over to the picnic basket.
I sit down and he hands me a cupcake.
"Peeta, it's-" I begin and see a ring at the top. It's not a plastic ring that you find on cupcakes for kids. It's a wedding ring.
I cover my mouth with one hand and look over at him.
"Katniss Everdeen, I love everything about you. I promise to protect you with all of my power and keep you happy. I would say more but I spoke my proposal speech in the letter." He says and chuckles nervously." Katniss, Will you make me the happiest man alive and be my wife?"
I glance down at the cupcake and up at Peeta.
"Yes." I say
