Chapter 38

Peter opened the door to the apartment and walked inside, whistling a tune and twirling his keys around his index finger. He stopped a few feet into the living room. Empty. Worse, there was no sound, leading him to believe Korra and Kara weren't home, yet there was King scratching at Korra's door. He only ever did that when there was no one to play with in the living room and the only one in the apartment had closed their door.

"Hello?" Peter called out, "Either of you home?"

"Uh, uh, yeah, we're home." Korra said.

Peter moved to the door and grabbed the handle.

"D-don't come in, we're busy!" Supergirl said.

"Um...okay." Peter said. He took his hand off the handle and looked away, then looked back and pressed his ear against the door.

"What do we do now?" Kara whispered.

Korra replied in a similarly hushed voice, "I don't know! I'm not the one with super hearing, I didn't know he was coming."

"Hey, I was distracted!"

"Yeah, well, I...er...this is still your fault."

"My fault!" Kara whispered, "How is this my fault?"

"Everything okay in there?" Peter asked.

"Yes!" they exclaimed at once.

Peter backed away from the door, but kept his eyes on it. Instead of going into his room like he intended, he sat on the couch and waited for one of the girls to come out. First Korra was acting weird, now they had shut themselves in her room. Something was wrong, but he had little to no idea what it could be, It took them about five minutes, but eventually, the door to Korra's room opened. Without making eye contact, Kara made her way to the kitchen. Her skin looked pale and clammy, which was somehow odd to Peter when he considering that her skin was still bullet proof. Korra stayed in the doorway, face red and fingers tightening, relaxing, then tightening again.

"Sooo, what was that just then?" Peter asked.

"I was t-teaching Kara how to meditate...is all." Korra said. She made her way into the kitchen and rigidly stood beside Supergirl.

Peter watched them with narrow eyes. Maybe they were up to something. At any rate, he wasn't likely to get answers tonight, they were so nervous about whatever it was that they might be just as likely to spew an incoherent web of lies as soon as tell the truth. Heh heh...web.

After school the next day, Peter stood at the bottom of the apartment building looking up. For the majority of the day he had been thinking about what Korra and Kara had been up to last night and why they didn't want him to know about it. He had come to the conclusion that they were planning some sort of surprise to snap him out of the funk he had been in since Harry had gone off the deep end.

The girls had tried their best to comfort him, but he had sort of snuffed them to be alone. It made sense that they would be scheming something to lighten his mood. They were good friends, and he absolutely loved having them in his life, but he did not need whatever they were planning. And to prove it, he was going to drop in and catch them in the act.

Around lunch he had sent them a text that he would be going to the Daily Bugle for a couple hours before coming home. His thoughts being that they would take advantage of this moment alone, and he'd be able to drop in on them. Oh, the looks on their faces if he could pull it off.

First off, he had put on his Spider-man suit and started climbing the side of the building opposite of their apartment. Since Supergirl couldn't distinguish heartbeats like Daredevil could, she would have no way of discerning his from any other resident of the building.

Second, he was going to drop from a web and peer into the balcony window. Supergirl would definitely notice him them, but not before he had found out whatever they were up to. He just hoped they wouldn't be too upset with him.

Spidey crouched on the edge of the building, considering everything the girls could have been up to alone in Korra's bedroom, but nothing else came to mind. He hopped off and fell, then shot out a web to stop his descent just a few feet above the balcony. Inverting himself, he let out more web line until his head was poking in through the window.

Inside, Korra and Kara lay on the couch, both in their school uniforms. Kara lay on the Avatar who had her arms wrapped around her as they kissed each other. It took all of a second for Kara to look up, her lips still locked with Korra's. Eye's wide, the Girl of Steel bolted upright. His grip loosened, and his brain completely ignoring all of his senses, including spider-sense, the Wall Crawler fell from his web, landing on his head. He heard yelling and doors slamming, but by the time he sat upright the living room was vacant.

His senses also vacant, Spider-man sat there on the cold balcony, staring into the warm apartment, still not entirely certain of what he had seen. He didn't know how long he sat there staring, but when his senses came back to him, he quickly stood and faced away from the door. Lingering there a few more moments, trying to think of the most logical thing to do, he instead jumped off the balcony and shot out a web to swing through the city.

Spidey replayed what he had seen over and over again while he swung from web to web. Had this been going on for a while and he just hadn't seen it? They had been spending an awful lot of time together since they had come back through the portal. And even before then, while he was at school the girls had had plenty of time alone. Maybe he had only noticed it because they had less time now because of school.

While pondering this option, he remembered the strange pheromones that had been pumped into the apartment that had made him and Korra act...weird. Maybe this was something else concocted by Mojo. What made good space T.V. anyway? How could he know? All he did know was that now that the thought had entered his mind, it wasn't going anywhere. So what was the next step? How did he investigate this without causing a scene? There was always the possibility that they actually felt...that way about each other, but he had to be sure there was no outside influence.

Pausing for a moment, Spider-man pulled out his phone and sent a message to Stark asking some generic question about the pheromone detector. That way if anything weird happened and Spider-man got caught up in it, Iron man would know where to start in order to fix it, but hopefully Stark wouldn't automatically assume anything was wrong. Taking a deep breath, he faced back towards his apartment. He didn't have any idea what to say when he got back there, but going back and talking to them seemed like the best thing to do...maybe. Hell, he had no idea, he'd never been in a situation like this or anything even close.

The Wall Crawler landed on the balcony a few minutes later. Both girls stood in the living room with their arms crossed and solemn looks on their faces. It was almost like they received the news of a death in the family. Not a close family member, but someone that they had would rather not have lost. It pained him to think he had been the cause of this.

He opened the balcony and stepped inside while pulling off his mask, "Hey guys..."

"Can we not talk about this? Please?" Korra asked, "You know what you saw, and it..."

"It is what it is, but it's still a little weird for us too." Kara said.

"Um...alright, that's fine." Peter said. They all stood in silence for a few moments, "So, uh...just...gonna get started on my homework...I guess."

"Yeah...we should do that too." Korra said.

In silence they returned to their rooms. Moments later, Korra went into Kara's room. Peter reminded himself that this wasn't unusual. They did their homework together all the time, and they hadn't even shut the door, so they couldn't be doing anything. Not even bothering to remove his costume, Peter sat at his desk with his hands holding up his head.

What did he do from here? How did he make this okay? Just a few days ago Kara had been trying to hook him up with Korra, and now she was the one kissing her? Not that he was upset about loosing the opportunity to be with Korra...well he was, but that was besides the point which was that it just didn't make sense to him.

Maybe the best thing to do would be to try and act normal. With any luck, the solution of what to do would just come to him while his brain was free from it's current stress and confusion. In forty five minutes, he had finished all the school work he needed for the next couple days, but the answer to his current situation eluded him. There was a knock on his door and he turned to see Korra and Kara in jeans and casual attire.

"We're, uh, going to the mall for a bit." Kara said, "Do you...want to come with us?"

"N-no, that's fine. You two go ahead." Peter said.

"Are you sure?" Korra asked, "We'd like you to come."

"I appreciate it, but it's okay, I've got stuff I need to take care of here." he forgot Kara could tell that he was lying.

The girls exchange looks. Kara nodded towards him, and Korra shrugged. "Um, okay then...maybe later" Korra said. They left the doorway and he could hear them whispering to one another as they walked out of the apartment.

Lost in thought, Peter stared at the wall for minutes on end before he remembered that he was still in his costume. Now might be the best chance he had in the foreseeable future to investigate any anomalies in the apartment without the girls being here to get upset about it. He hurried out the door and swung towards Avengers Tower. Tony Stark gave a number of devices to check for dimensional anomalies and hormone altering stimulants. He offered to carry them, but Spidey webbed all the gear together, slung them over his back and carried the hundreds of pounds of equipment back to the apartment. He returned them an hour later, without a single positive result.

Slunk in the recliner in the apartment living room, Peter took his mask off and thought of a number of different ways to talk to the girls. Above all else, he wanted them to know he was okay with them being together. That wasn't strictly true, the thought of them breaking up and splitting up the team tore at him, but he wasn't going to say anything now and add to the level of stress they must already be under.

The door opened as the girls returned. Peter stood and faced them, "Hey, can I talk to yyy..."

Words failed him when he saw what they were wearing. Kara was in a shining, tight, short red dress with one strap over her right shoulder. Complimenting the dress was a layer of bright red lipstick. Korra was in black dress that was tight around the torso where it left her shoulders uncovered. The skirt was loose around her hips and upper thigh were the outfit ended. She also wore lipstick, but a much lighter color red, and her hair was out of it's normal pony tail to hang loosely around her shoulders. Peter couldn't even remember what he was talking about.

"We, uh, went shopping." Korra said, blushing slightly.

"I...noticed." Peter said.

The girls moved into the apartment and set their bags down in their rooms. For the life of him, Peter couldn't remember what he had wanted to say.

"So, uh..." Kara said as she slide up next to Korra in the living room. Neither of them made eye contact with him or each other, but the moment they caught each others glances, they both stood up straighter, "We were going to go out tonight if you wanted to come with us."

"I...n-no, that's fine. Look," Peter said, "I'm sorry for just dropping in on you two, and I'm sorry for the way I reacted, but I just...I didn't know what to do, or what was happening, and I panicked a little bit, but that's, I mean...I'm not going to tell you that I'm completely cool with this. It came out of nowhere for me, and it's a little...weird, but I don't want that to stop you. I'll get used to it. It's not hurting anyone, and it makes you happy, so that's... it-hey if it makes you happy, then go for it, you know? You shouldn't let me or anyone else stop you from being happy just cause I-slash-we aren't used to it, so...yeah. You know what makes you happy, so go for it."

The girls smirked and looked sideways at each other. "He did say to go for it." Korra said. She locked eyes with him and moved in close. Peter pulled back his head slightly, not sure what was happening. Standing on her toes, Korra wrapped her arms around Peter's neck and pressed her lips against his. They kissed for three full seconds before he reacted and pulled away slightly. He stared into the girl's bright blue eyes, and felt like he forgot how to speak.

Kara pulled in and wrapped her arms around Peter's waist. "We'd like it if you came with us."

BAM! Hope you like it/it doesn't come off as forced together. It wasn't easy to find a way to get Supergirl to 'Swing both ways,' but with the lack of natural births in the Man of Steel movie, I figured that not a whole lot was absolutely concrete about Krypton (Which very few things are in comics). Fell free to let me know if you love the relationship, hate it, or have any other critiques.
