Everyone was having dinner. More specifically, dessert. Things like cake and ice cream were being ravenously consumed by the Mobians, while Chris was downing some waffles. Just then, interrupting all their food-related fun, Chuck came in with some strange papers and documents that even Chris was confused about.

"Good news, everybody!" the old scientist exclaimed. Somehow, Chris felt a sense of dread as soon as he heard his grandfather say that in the way he did.

"What up, Chuck?" Tails asked.

"The government has given you Mobians some important documents each. Look over them carefully so the information is all correct," Chuck explained. "These things will let you guys get by much easier."

He handed these documents to each of the Mobians in the room. Tails ended up with a much larger amount compared to everyone else, the reason for which eluded the twin-tailed genius.

"Why has Tails got so much?" Luster wondered.

"Those licenses will allow him to fly any aircraft he ever makes to any location on the planet! Including the X-Tornado, of course," Chuck answered. "If you ever fly without a license, you'll be arrested, so keep them close with you at all times."

"Mr. Chuck? What's this?" Cream asked, motioning to a special card that was hanging around Cheese's neck.

"That certifies that Cheese is your pet," Chuck answered.

Cream didn't like that. "What? No! Cheese is not my pet, he is my dear friend!"

"Oh, really? Sorry about that. I guess that makes you guys a unique case...this'll be a hassle to sort out," Chuck sighed. "But I'll see what I can do." Cream soon calmed down.

But having heard the commotion, Sonic came into the dining room. His stomach also lead him to do so, so it was a double whammy for him.

"Hey guys. Looks like you're havin' a lot of fun with that food there," he greeted his friends.

"Ah, Sonic! You've come at a good time," Chuck handed the blue Mobian a small, dark red-coloured booklet. "Here. This is for you."

"What's this?" Sonic looked curiously at the papery trinket he'd just been given.

"It's called a passport. It lets you go to other countries legally," Chris informed him. "I've got one, too."

"Legally, huh? Guess this'll finally stop the police goin' after me whenever I wanna visit wherever," Sonic mentioned. He then grinned, getting into a very positive mood. "Sounds pretty interesting!"

And then, the lot of them went into the X-Tornado to fly towards a beach for the sake of a holiday. Tails was able to test out his new legality documents. But Chuck didn't trust them to stay out of danger, so he asked Mr. Tanaka to secretly follow the group in case any danger arose. With these folk - that was guaranteed to be the case.

S-O-N-I-C, GO!

Go, go, go, go, LET'S GO!

Woooooow!

I've been breaking the rules 'till yesterday

Now I just wanna break loose today

That's how I'll be!

Always running free!

With this punk philosophy,

That says to always dash away

Go towards the goal!

There's nothing better!

If my rhythm's, been disrupted

The scenery is, just a bunch of lines

So I'll ignore it

And break the world's confines!

Inside, outside, here we go

Attack, attack, everywhere

Break everything, but not a friend

Just make the battle end!

Inside, outside, go Sonic!

Attack, attack, yes Sonic!

Look out there buddy, have a nice fight

Our difference is paper thin and yet I will spin

Through the boredom of today

Start running, find your own way!

S-O-N-I-C, GO!

S-O-N-I-C, GO!

Go, go, go, go, LET'S GO!

Whilst flying towards their chosen seaside holiday town of Grand Blue, the Chaos Emerald radar picked up on the presence of another emerald, which was seemingly lying within the ocean. Sonic, Tails, Chris, Amy, Luster, Cream and Cheese all knew they had to land nearby. Luckily, doing that proved to be a smooth process. The X-Tornado was parked in an open space next to a car park. Tails activated the usual security systems and everyone proceeded into the town.

"We're finally here. Let's see..." Sonic stretched his limbs. "We'll just head to the beach."

As they all progressed through the locale, random people kept locking their gazes onto the Mobians. They felt as unnerved as last time, when their personal spaces were repeatedly invaded in Station Square. There was no private room to protect them this time.

"Isn't that Sonic?"

"What? Sonic? That's impossible!"

"It's really Sonic!"

Soon, a very large amount of people rushed right at the Mobians. Fearing for their safety, the entire group sprinted away from the oncoming stampede of obnoxious, brutish people.

June 8th 1989 - 5:45 PM

Sapphire Sea Beach

After running to a safe, secluded place on the beach where they would not be harassed, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. Chris, on the other hand, was panting repeatedly, not possessing the same stamina that the Mobians had. But at least they were fine.

"We're the centre of attention no matter where we go," Chris commented.

"I'd rather sneak around if we're just gonna get that over and over again," Amy complained.

"Maybe it would've been better to pretend to be stuffed animals," Tails added.

"At least we're okay now," Luster tried to lighten the mood.

Cream looked all around the ground, discovering something that was amiss.

"Wasn't Mr. Sonic just with us?" she noticed.

"He's probably gone ahead to search for the emerald himself," Chris guessed. "I'll go look for him."

Christopher did just that, splitting off from the group to scan over the beach. Eventually, he found Sonic as the blue hedgehog was laying down on the sand. He seemed to be thinking about something. Chris approached, both concerned and confused.

"Oh, there you are. Where'd you go?" the human boy asked him.

"I'm thinkin' of a way that we can search for the Chaos Emerald that's underwater," Sonic explained. "I doubt Earth has any air bubbles like in Mobius and I ain't a swimmer."

"So all we need to do is find a way to stay underwater for a long period of time? Leave it to me!" Chris channeled the hedgehog's spirit and gave him a thumbs-up before retreating into the town.

Meanwhile, Amy and Cream were swimming in the sea, having an absolutely spiffing time. Tails and Cheese on the other hand were relaxing on the beach by catching the sun's rays. Luster was digging himself a hole when a crab came along. It snipped his furry leg.

"Ow!" he yelped. The crab rushed back into the ocean before anyone could do anything about it.

"You okay, Luster?" Tails was concerned for the cat.

"Yeah, I'm fine..." Luster replied. He rubbed the area that the crab violently attacked, in a vain attempt to nurse it back to full health.

Chris soon returned with an incredibly long hose that was attached to a circular device. He suggested for Sonic to use it as an elongated breathing device, but it didn't end up working since the device got stuck ashore. Another plan was then attempted. Chris somehow got his hands on a large bell that was supposedly used for diving. Continually confused as to where the boy obtained such a thing, Sonic ventured into the depths with the bell in hand. There was no window. Sonic couldn't see where he was going. Therefore, his task of searching for the Chaos Emerald was made virtually impossible. They had to go back to the drawing board.

One solid idea later, Chris led the stroll back into town. Sonic, Tails and Luster went with him.

"I guess if we're gonna be diving, we should really get diving gear...dunno why I didn't think of that first," Chris scratched the back of his head in embarrassment.

Sonic wasn't happy at that statement, since he didn't have the best of times just earlier as a result of Chris' momentary inability to think. The human boy brought all of them over to the local diving and general water gear shop, where he made for the front desk.

"How much will it cost to rent five diving suits and a boat?" Chris asked the middle-aged man that he guessed ran the shop.

"You don't need to pay," the man said. "The government passed a special Sonic budget, so they'll pay for everything he needs. Do you mind if I ask why you need the boat?"

Sonic narrowed his eyes.

"What? They're really makin' it so we don't have to pay a thing when I'm around?" Sonic questioned, rhetorically. "That's just silly. Chris, isn't your family insanely rich already? We can afford this stuff like a million times over! Water dude guy, I don't care what the government says, we're payin' for this stuff. I know how important money is for people, I know how it helps. And I just wanna help people. That okay?"

"Oh, certainly! Go right ahead and pay. I completely agree; this new rule is just awful," the shop owner nodded in agreement. "I'm glad you're not arrogant, Sonic."

"No problem, man. If there's anyone that ever needs help, count on me to be there. Can't stand it when others are in need, ya know?"

"You really are a hero."

Chris, Tails and Luster glanced at each other, slightly confused as to the direction in which the conversation went. Chris figured that he needed to change the subject. The sight of a model boat on the shop owner's desk as well as a painting on the back wall of an ancient ship caught his attention - perhaps there was a story behind them.

"That model boat looks just like the one in that picture, sir," Chris pointed out to the man.

"Yes, it is. That's the legendary boat that sunk long ago in the Sapphire Sea, just next to our town of Grand Blue. During the age of exploration, when they were creating the first maps, a storm struck the ship. Because of that, it dropped to the bottom of the ocean, taking its treasures with it."

"Huh, interesting. I know! We'll go look for it!" Chris declared.

"You'll do that?" the shopkeeper asked as he packed together the scuba gear into a single plastic bag.

"Yeah!" Chris nodded. He received the bag from the gentleman. "I'll see you later, sir."

When the gang returned to the beach, where Amy, Cream and Cheese were playing around in seclusion, Tails grabbed one of the scuba sets and inspected it. Scientific curiosity filled his internal systems. An idea soon came to him.

"I could probably make permanent water breathers out of these…" Tails asserted after about a minute of silence.

"Really? You can do that?" Chris asked in amazement.

"Of course. I hate to...what was that phrase Ella used once…'toot my own horn'? Well, I don't like doing that, but I can do all sorts of things when it comes to machines. Remember those electronic paper planes I used to help Sonic back in Area 99? I made those with just some trees," Tails answered. "I could probably modify these scuba sets to make some kind of air necklace...if you guys can get me a few rocks and blades of grass, I should be able to do it."

"Wow, Tails. That's just awesome! I wonder what your IQ is…" Chris remarked.

"Chuck already put me through one of those tests. He said I'm way smarter than both of Earth's smartest scientists combined," Tails said, matter-of-factly.

Chris stood there, mouth agape, absolutely gobsmacked. As Luster and Sonic dispersed to go get the things Tails needed for his project, the fox had to snap Chris back into reality. The boy then obtained a boat from the town, which the group was able to use to get closer to the Chaos Emerald's and assumed location without having to enter the water.

Everyone was ready to dive in. Except for Cheese - he was too small. One of Tails' custom-made water breathing apparatuses wouldn't even fit on the little guy, so he was put in charge of 'protecting' the boat. It was a job that the Neutral Chao was happy to take. Some time after the main group entered the depths, a certain messenger robo showed up at the lonesome boat, seemingly disappointed over the failed presence of the Mobians and that boy. Its creator also wasn't pleased.

June 8th 1989 - 6:30 PM

Within the Sapphire Sea

Beneath the surface of the ocean, the search for both the Chaos Emerald and the legendary ship began. All of them - except Sonic - were swimming. The permanent air breathers that Tails developed beforehand were really helping them all out. Never did they have to worry about finding air bubbles or quickly getting to the surface so they could breathe. The group could solely focus on the hunt.

"The signal's getting stronger," Tails noticed, with the blue Chaos Emerald in hand.

As they continued to swim, Chris recognised a hugely wrecked object that came into their view. His eyes widened as soon as he realised what it was.

"This must be the ship that the diving shop owner was talking about!" the boy realised, surprised.

"I wonder if the Chaos Emerald is in here..." Tails added.

Without haste, the group entered the wrecked ship, determined to find that mystical jewel. They didn't come across it right away, but they did discover a pile of gold and general treasure.

"The legend's true! Look all this gold!" Chris marvelled at the sight of the positively glowing gold.

Whilst all the admiration was taking place, the blue Chaos Emerald was warming up, unaffected by the cold wetness of the deep.

"The signal's even stronger here. An emerald might've appeared within the treasure here," Tails guessed.

"Right, but-" Chris was about to say before Luster jumped straight in.

"Hey!" Sonic called. "Luster, you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm good!" the cat returned, his feet sticking out among all the treasure.

Inside the pile, amongst all the gold rings, jewels, necklaces and such, he uncovered a blue light. Grabbing the source of the light, he felt its power coursing through his body. Its raw energy fed through his soul. He had never felt so alive.

But then a familiar crab came out of nowhere and nabbed the dark blue Chaos Emerald away from the Mobian cat.

"Hey! That was..." Luster reacted, before realising the identity of the thief. "It's you!"

"Crabmeat?" Sonic thought that the creature looked like an old foe. "Nope. Guess this little critter's organic."

"Do you think he'll give the emerald to us?" Tails wondered.

Luster surfaced from the heavy pile of gold. He became face to face with the crab thief. "Hey, we need that emerald. Please give it back?"

The crab did nothing.

"Oh come on! Give it..." Luster complained. In frustration, the cat nabbed the mystical jewel right out of the crab's claw. This earned him a sharp pinch.

If he hadn't learned his lesson previously. A quick Spin Dash prevented the crab from doing any harm; the technique scared the animal away. Sonic pulled Luster out from the treasure pile, however, their peace was rudely interjected by a voice.

"I found you, hedgehog! How DARE you take a holiday!" Eggman threatened, having arrived at the ship via the sunken Egg Fort. "So this is where you went. E-57 Clurken, attack!"

A giant, jellyfish-esque robot appeared in front of the waterbound battleship, ready to fight. Sonic stepped forward.

"Get back to the surface! I'll take this guy!" he claimed.

And so, the hedgehog began to combat E-57. His friends quickly departed from the area, all of them confident in Sonic's abilities. But there was something he'd forgotten about.

Being underwater always hindered Sonic's movements. Combined with the fact that Sonic couldn't swim, Sonic's mobility was cut drastically. Eggman was aware of this.

"Ha-ha! I love this! You're a fool, Sonic, for thinking you can take me on underwater!" Eggman mocked his enemy.

Sonic really couldn't do much. His nemesis fired some missiles that he couldn't evade. The hedgehog took the full force of the missiles, being blown backwards as a result of the ensuing explosions. It seemed as if he was done for.

Meanwhile, the others returned to the surface and managed to get to the boat, completely safe from the battle that was still going on within the depths. Just as the group were pondering what to do, out of nowhere, a much larger boat pulled up beside their own. Driving it was the Thorndyke family's butler. He had finally come into the action. Somewhat.

"Mr. Tanaka?" Amy questioned. "What are you doing here?"

"There is not much time. I promised Master Chris' grandfather that I would make sure that he wouldn't get into trouble, so I have been following you all this entire time," Mr. Tanaka explained. "But it seems today's battle is taking place underneath the ocean. Unfortunately, I cannot help much with that."

Soon after, Sonic appeared above the water. E-57 followed suit and began smacking the hedgehog around with its metallic tentacles. Sonic was now basically being suspended within the air as a result of all the tentacles moving at such swift speeds.

Mr. Tanaka's eyes glimmered.

"But I can help with this," he stated. The butler moved in closer to the fight. "Master Sonic! Grab onto this and ski across the water!"

He threw a handle from the back of his boat towards Sonic, who caught it. He began jet skiing over the surface of the ocean, quickly getting the hang of things. Clurken fired some missiles at the hedgehog specifically, though those and all others missed.

"Heh, this guy's nothin' when outta the drink! Hey, Tanaka, ya got one of those Power Rings? I'd really love to pay this 'bot back for what it did to me before," Sonic asked the butler.

"Certainly. Master Chuck was foresightful enough to give me one before I left," Mr. Tanaka responded. He grabbed a Power Ring from one of his uniform's pockets. "Be sure to catch this, Master Sonic!"

"I got'cha!"

Mr. Tanaka threw the Power Ring. Sonic was able to catch it. Its familiar, Chaos Emerald-like power energised him. It was more than enough power needed to eliminate E-57 with a single Homing Attack.
"Curses! Foiled again by that hedgehog," Eggman leered from within the damaged Egg Fort's bridge. "I'd best wait until next time. Maybe I'll finally be free from this infernal water…!"

The Egg Fort left the scene, departing for elsewhere within the wide, blue ocean. Mr. Tanaka helped the group return to the shore, where Chris returned the boat they'd been renting. He knew he had to make a stop at that shop.

June 8th 1989 - 6:50 PM

Ocean Gear Shop

Chris wanted to go the shop himself, but Luster was insistent on coming along. For whatever reason. The twelve year old human reluctantly accepted. And so the pair entered the place where they purchased their scuba diving gear, ready to tell their story to the shop owner.

"So you really found a sunken ship off the shore?" the shopkeeper asked in disbelief.

"Yeah, but Eggman destroyed it, so there's nothing left. The legend was true. Sorry that I didn't get you anything from it..." Chris apologised, drooping his head.

"...But I got somethin'!" Luster continued, bringing out a shiny gold ring that had a serene blue sapphire at the top from within his Hammerspace.

"Wait, that's what you wanted to come here for?" Chris soon realised. "Where'd you even get that from?"

"When I was in that pile of gold and stuff, I picked this up as a souvenir," Luster revealed. He put the ring on the counter. "You can have it, sir."

"Really? You'd let me have it?" he murmured, almost losing his speech with how much joy he was feeling.

"Yeah!" Luster nodded with a childish smile.

"Thank you...thank you so much! My ancestor owned that ship...now I have proof that it existed...thank you again," the man divulged, nearly shedding a tear. "You people will always be welcome in my shop."

"No problem!" Luster kept his smile.

"Thanks for the gear, sir!" Chris and Luster then departed from the shop.

With that, their adventure was over. Four Chaos Emeralds out of seven...only three remained. Nobody knew when or where each one would show up. But it was certain that they'd appear eventually. And when the next one would make its appearance, another battle would take place for its ownership. That's exactly how things have been going so far. Really, what do you expect, reader?
