Arizona had been staring up at the Seattle sky for ten minutes. She had focused her eyes on the blinking of a plane that looked like it was practically floating like a feather above her, and started wondering where all the people inside of it might be headed, what all of their destinations were and if anyone was struggling with something similar to what she was struggling with. But then she realized everyone struggles with something, it doesn't matter what it is. The hard part about a struggle is finding the strength to get past it, to climb that mountain and just overcome it. That's what she needed to do. There was beautiful woman who she loved with everything she had probably sitting alone in their dark apartment doing nothing but worrying about her. She had a job she was proud to be a able to do and she didn't want anything to affect that. Those are the things that mattered.

Without even really knowing what she was doing, Arizona had left the hospital in somewhat of a haze and made it home. She opened the apartment door and shut it behind her. The sudden loudness startled Callie, who was still sitting by the window with her phone clutched in her hands, hoping she would get a phone call or something from Arizona. She instantly looked up to see what the cause of the noise was.

"God Arizona, you scared me." She got up from her chair and waited to see who would make the first move.

Arizona never said and word and just walked towards Callie and immediately wrapped her arms around her, burying her face in the crook of Callie's neck. She started to cry and tightened her grip on Callie's shirt.

"Hey hey, shh, it's okay." Callie brought her hand up to rest on the back of Arizona's head and stroked her hair softly. "Everything's okay."

"I'm so sorry," Arizona mumbled against Callie's now damp skin.

Callie kissed the top of Arizona's head and moved her hand to the small of her back. "Arizona it's okay. Look at me," she said.

Arizona glanced up and Callie's heart broke at the sight of the tear filled blue eyes. She decided she would do everything she could to make sure Arizona never felt the way she was feeling ever again, Callie cupped her cheeks and wiped away some of the tears as they fell from her eyes.

"I'm here. You're here. Everything will be just fine. Yeah?"

"Yeah," Arizona whispered while nodding.

Callie leaned down and kissed her softly, trying to comfort her and make her feel loved. "What do you want to do right now?" Callie asked.

"I-I don't really know."

"That's fine. How about we lie on the couch and just…talk maybe? We can talk about anything you want to."

Arizona took a deep breath and smiled. "Okay."

They moved to the couch and Callie sat down then Arizona sat beside her. There was a bit of distance between them now as Arizona tried to steady her emotions.

"Do you want to tell me what really happened today?"

"I kind of...I don't know snapped I guess. I just couldn't deal with anything in that one moment in the supply closet and it was like this sudden short circuit in my system and I had to leave."

"You were so angry with me Arizona," Callie said and looked away from her.

"I know," Arizona replied. "And I'm so sorry. You were one of the last people I wanted whatever this thing with me is, to affect."

Callie met Arizona's gaze and reached across the couch to take her hand. She entwined their fingers and sighed. "You didn't do it on purpose and I know that. We can't control everything all the time. I was just really worried about you…I couldn't get you on the phone and nobody knew where you were tonight."

"The roof," Arizona said.

"Why were you on the roof?"

"Because I needed the air and I needed to hear the city and to see the sky mostly."

"Did it help?"

Arizona nodded and took a deep breath. "It did. It was actually more cathartic then I thought it would be."

Callie rubbed the top of Arizona's hand with her thumb lightly and smiled. "So what now then?"

"Now I deal with it. I was thinking about going and talking to someone about it. Like the hospital therapist maybe."

"Really?" Callie asked.

"Really, I feel like it could help."

"That's great Arizona."

Arizona leaned back against the couch and closed her eyes. "I wish none of this would have ever happened. Things would just be so much easier and we would be happy and not having to deal with all my new…emotional baggage."

"We're not happy?" Callie asked.

Arizona opened her eyes and looked at her. She scooted closer to her on the couch so she was right beside her now, leaving only a few inches between them.

"Of course we're happy, you make everything better."

"I hate knowing you were hurting and going through something that I couldn't help with," Callie said.

Arizona cupped Callie's cheek and brushed some hair behind her ear. "You did help. You did everything right Callie."

"But it feels like it wasn't enough."

"Stop. It was more then enough, you've been everything I needed and I think I would be a lot worse off if I didn't have you beside me through all of this."

Callie smiled again and leaned into Arizona's touch, enjoying their closeness. Never in her life had she felt such a draw to a person like she did with Arizona. If they were in the same room together, Callie always felt herself being towards Arizona and they almost always needed to have some sort of physical contact. It was one of her favourite aspects of their relationship. Some people need a little distance from their partner now and then, but not them.

"I love you," Callie said.

Arizona leaned in even closer to Callie, so she could feel her breath on her lips. "I love you too," she said then pressed her lips to the brunettes. After kissing for a few minutes, they sat together on the couch just enjoying the quiet comfort.

"What should we do now?" Arizona asked.

"Bed," Callie answered.

"Are you tired?"

Callie shook her head. "Not at all."

"Oh…so bed for…"

"Right."

"But my ribs Callie, they're not healed y-"

Callie cut her off by kissing her hard then getting up off the couch and pulling Arizona with her. "I promise to be gentle."

"Well you are a doctor," Arizona said and followed Callie into the bedroom then sat down on the edge of the bed.

Callie shut the bedroom door then turned around and smiled mischievously at Arizona. "Yes, and I'm a very very good doctor that wants to take your mind off everything. I have exactly the prescription you need."

"Then please don't let me stop you."

The next morning when Callie woke up, Arizona was still beside her in bed. Not like the day before she when had woken up alone. Arizona was laying on her stomach with an arm draped over Callie's midsection, her hair spilled across her pillow. Callie's heart swelled at the image of complete comfort and ease. That night Arizona had not been disturbed by any bad dreams; in fact she hadn't stirred from her sleep at all. The emotional day mixed with the sex was enough to tire her out completely.

Callie glanced at the clock on her bedside table and frowned. She had woken up a half hour before the alarm went off, but even though her body and mind were now awake, she didn't move from her spot on the bed and instead just watched Arizona sleep. She took great comfort in knowing the person she loved was so content and close by and didn't mind sitting in silence until Arizona woke up on her own or until the beeping of the alarm pulled her from her slumber.

Eventually the time came for the alarm to go off and after the first annoying beep, Arizona had lifted her head from the pillow and was looking up at Callie.

"Morning already?" she asked.

"Unfortunately yeah," Callie answered.

Arizona dropped her head back down and groaned. "Noooo," she mumbled.

Callie laughed and lifted off the covers then got up out of the bed and started getting her clothes for the day ready. Arizona looked back up and moved so her elbow was resting on her pillow and her head was resting in her hand.

"How'd you sleep?" she asked Callie.

Turning around, Callie smiled then said, "Good. Really good. How about you?"

"I don't even think I dreamed at all. I was just so exhausted and it was like I closed my eyes then two seconds later in was 7 a.m"

"That'll happen after you do what we did last night," Callie said while smirking then moved back to the bed and leaned over to kiss Arizona. "Now I'm going to go make us some coffee, you get your cute butt out of bed and get ready for work."

"Yes mam."

Callie left the bedroom and Arizona got out of bed and went to start her daily morning routine of washing her face and putting on some light make up. She got dressed and the smell of fresh coffee wafting in from the kitchen drew her from the bedroom to where the aroma was coming from. Callie had her back towards her and was busy putting things on the counter back up in the kitchen cabinets. Arizona came up behind her and slid her arms around her waist.

"Good morning," Arizona said and kissed the top of Callie's shoulder.

"Good morning to you too," Callie said and turned around in Arizona's arms so they were looking at each other. "And it really is a good morning isn't it?"

"Yes it is, and hopefully it will be a good day too."

"If you have any problems today…" Callie said and reached up to stroke Arizona's cheek with her thumb, "you come find me no matter what okay? You page me or get someone to track me down and just come talk to me."

"I will, I promise," Arizona said.

"Good because from now on you don't have to go through any of this alone. I will always be here."

"Thank you for everything. I'm so lucky to have you in my life," Arizona said then hugged Callie tightly.

"I'm the lucky one," Callie and kissed the top of Arizona's head. "Now," she said once they separated and started to drink their coffee, "we better get to the hospital. My board results are coming in today and I need distractions from thinking about it."

"You find out today? Did I know that already?"

Callie nodded. "But it's okay, things have been…I mean we've just had other things to think about lately."

Arizona looked down at her feet. "Yeah right, we have, I have."

"Today is the day though. So keep your fingers crossed." Callie took another sip of her coffee then poured the rest down the sink drain, suddenly feeling like she didn't want the extra caffeine for some reason.

"You're going to pass Callie."

"I think so too, but I guess with these kinds of things you never know sometimes right?"

"The hospital loves you and so does Dr. Webber so even if things don't go the way you want them too, how bad would the outcome be?" Arizona asked.

"Uhm…the hospital most likely doesn't want to offer a fellowship to a doctor who isn't board certified. I've applied at Mercy West for one and even one as far as Portland in case I don't pass. But even they may not want to employ a non certified surgeon."

"Wait," Arizona said and tilted her head in confusion, "you applied for a fellowship in Portland?"

Callie nodded. "In case I didn't get any in Seattle, it was more of a backup plan."

"B-But what if it were the only fellowship you were offered…would you pack up and move your life to Portland?"

"Of course I wouldn't Arizona, I applied for these fellowships a long time ago, back before we were in a serious committed relationship. You're my fiancé now, a lot would go into deciding what would be done if I didn't get to stay here and work."

Arizona sighed and smiled. "Right, of course."

Callie placed her hands on both of Arizona's shoulders and rubbed them slowly. "Besides, you'd have one hell of a time trying to get me to go anywhere where you wouldn't be," she said.

"Very true."

After she glanced at the clock on the stove Callie realized she might be late if they didn't get going soon. They had talked the night before after tiring themselves out in the bedroom to go into work and leave work together each day, even if their schedules didn't always match up. It was Arizona's idea's and it was her way of making sure she'd never have to venture back to their apartment on her own for a while. Callie was all for it, wanting to make Arizona comfortable any way she could.

"Another wonderful day at Seattle Grace Hospital here we come," Arizona said as they left their apartment and began their quick journey to work. Once they had arrived they said goodbye and went their separate ways, Arizona to her office and Callie to the residents lounge. She changed into her scrubs and went up to the intensive care floor to begin morning rounds. Apparently the hospital had been busy overnight and she was surprised that neither she nor Arizona had been paged into work. Every five-minute's Callie was pulling her phone out of her pocket to check her emails, she was anxiously awaiting her results and just wished they would come so she could stop thinking about it. She wanted everything having to do with the board certification exams to be over and done with.

When she checked again she didn't have an email but she did have a text message from Arizona.

Heard anything yet? – A

Callie quickly texted her back saying she hadn't found out yet but that she'd let her know once she did. In the mean time she needed work to distract her. She needed surgery, she needed broken bones that she could fix and luckily her pager beeped, calling her down to the emergency room where a teenager had fallen off of his skateboard, resulting in a pretty mangled arm. Of course she felt bad for the kid, but she loved to fix bones.

The surgery had taken her just over two hours, the boy now had a metal contraption sticking out of his wrist which he would have until the bone healed enough to remove it. She scrubbed out and as she left the scrub room she overheard two of the other residents who had gone to San Francisco with her to take the test talking about something.

"Dr. Torres," one of them said when the spotted her. They motioned her over with a wave of their hands. "Did you find out yet? Everyone just started getting their emails," the other said.

"They did? I was in surgery so I'll have to check. How did you guys do?" Callie asked.

"Passed," they replied in unison.

"Congratulations, I'm going to uh…go check and see if…ya know…"

"Of course," one of the residents said. "Good luck."

Callie went to the residents lounge and sat down on one of the benches in front of her cubby. She took her phone out of her pocket and closed her eyes while taking a deep breath. She opened her eyes then opened her email, the newest emails loaded and the first one on the list was exactly what she had been waiting for, an email from the American Board of Medical Specialties.

She touched her screen, and the information in the email loaded. In an instant a weight was lifted off her shoulder. A huge smile appeared on her face and she almost jumped up to do a victory dance but managed to restrain herself in fear of the embarrassment she'd have due to someone walking in and seeing her.

"I passed," she said out loud to herself. "I passed!"

Instead of just texting Arizona to tell her, Callie quickly headed for the pediatrics floor and hoped that Arizona wasn't in surgery so she could tell her in person. As luck would have it, she was the first person Callie spotted once the elevator doors opened. Arizona was leaning against the nurse's station, mid conversation with one of her ped's nurses. Callie smiled and walked over to her.

"Hey," she said.

Arizona turned and smiled brightly when she saw Callie standing there. "Hey! What are you doing up here?"

"I…I got my board results."

"And?"

"Can we go somewhere private to talk? Your office maybe."

"Of course," Arizona said and took Callie's hand in hers then went down the hallway and into her office. Arizona was trying to gauge her mood so she could tell if she passed or not but Callie was looking very still faced and seemed quiet. They sat down on the couch and when Callie wouldn't look at her, Arizona instantly assumed the worst, that she didn't pass and that Seattle Grace wouldn't give her a fellowship because she wasn't certified.

"You didn't pass?" she asked Callie.

There was silence, without either woman saying anything. Arizona wasn't really sure what to do because Callie wasn't speaking. She was just sitting there staring at her feet. Just as Arizona reached out to hold her hands, Callie jumped up off the couch and laughed.

"I tricked you! You thought I didn't pass but I did!"

"Calliope! Why would you do that?" Arizona asked then got up and punched her in the arm.

"Ow!" Callie said and took a step back then rubbed the nose sore skin. "Jeez it was just a joke, I'm sorry."

"I'm sorry," Arizona said as she threw her arms around Callie and hugged her. "You passed! You passed! You passed!"

"Yes I did! And tonight we're going out to celebrate."

"We are?" Arizona asked and leaned back to look at Callie.

Callie smiled. "Of course, Joe's for drinks on me and we're going to have a great time with our friends."

"I haven't had a night out like that in a while," Arizona said.

"So it's a date then. I'll meet you in the hospital lobby at 7 because now I have to go speak with the head of the orthopedics department about an ortho fellowship."

"I'm so proud of you Calliope."

"Thank you for all your help, the studying and the support. We make a pretty great team don't we?"

"The best team," Arizona said then kissed Callie.

"I've got to go but I'll see you later okay? We're going to have fun tonight. I see you and me and dancing," Callie said and opened Arizona's office door.

Arizona laughed and watched Callie dance as she backed out of the office then disappeared down the hallway. A night of drinks and dancing with Callie is definitely something she would enjoy.

7 o'clock rolled around and Callie and Arizona both walked into the hospital lobby from different directions. Callie spotted Arizona's blonde locks from across the room and couldn't help but wear the biggest smile as she crossed the room and they met in the middle.

"Hey there beautiful," Callie said. "Know a place where a girl can get a drink? I'm gong out with my fiancé and I'm trying to find a local hangout."

"How does your fiancé feel about you telling girls they're beautiful?" Arizona asked and winked.

"She knows I only have eyes for her." Callie kissed Arizona on the cheek and put an arm around her waist, "let's head to Joe's."

Joe's bar was already crowded for only being 7 p.m, but at bar where almost the entire customer base was the staff of a hospital that worked crazy schedules, that wasn't hard to believe. In the corner of the bar, a group of their close friends were already waiting for them. Mark Sloan, Teddy Altman, Addison Montgomery and Derek Shepherd were among the group.

"One glass of white wine and one of red please," Callie asked one of the bartenders once she and Arizona got to the bar.

"Not starting with tequila?" Arizona whispered in the brunette's ear.

Callie shuddered at the feeling of warm breath against her skin. "We're pacing ourselves tonight, I'm in no rush for anything."

Arizona bit Callie's earlobe softly then kissed her cheek. "Sounds good to me."

"Better watch out Dr. Robbins, or you'll have people talking about your public displays of affection."

"Let them," Arizona said as the bartender placed their glasses of wine in front of them.

"Torres, Robbins!" Mark yelled from where he sat at the table in the corner with everyone else.

Callie looked over and laughed, she waved him off then picked up her wine glass. "Guess we should join them huh?"

"Well this get together celebration was your idea…so yeah I think we should," Arizona answered.

They walked over to their group of friends and everyone clinked their glasses together and congratulated Callie for passing her board exams. All of the doctors already there had taken their board exams so they all knew how stressful a time it could be. They had all passed and were now attending surgeons at the hospital, something Callie was now well on her way to achieving also.

"I have some other news," Callie said to everyone.

"What is it Callie?" Teddy asked.

"I was offered the orthopedics fellowship at Seattle Grace so it looks like you guys are going to be stuck with me for a while."

"That's great Torres!" Mark said.

"Congratulations Callie, the hospital is lucky to have you," Derek said.

Callie looked around at everyone who had come out to support her and felt so blessed to be surrounded by such incredible people. She wished that Aria could have come but she wasn't feeling very well, a result of the new medicine she had been put on.

It was a startling difference from the previous evening when Callie had been sitting by herself in the apartment she shared with Arizona, wondering if she'd be going to bed alone that night.

The drinks started flowing and everyone was having a good time, Arizona had been pulled away by some of the people who worked in the pediatrics department and every now and then Callie would look across the room and find her with her head thrown back in laughter, looking more beautiful by the second.

Addison came up beside Callie and put her arm around her shoulder. "She looks happy," Addison said.

Callie smiled and nodded. "Yeah she does, it's amazing."

"So how does it feel to be like a real doctor now?"

"I've always been a real doctor, and hardcore one, so this is just like a gold star on top of it all."

"A gold star huh?" Addison said.

"Is there an underlying question there Addy?"

"I've just always wondered if you were…you know a gold star."

"As in a gold star lesbian?" Callie asked and downed the rest of her drink in one shot.

Addison just nodded and took a sip of her wine. Callie motioned for the bartender to bring her another drink and looked at the redhead who as staring at her, waiting for an answer.

"Okay fine," Callie finally said. "If you really want to know, I am a gold star."

"And Arizona is…"

"None of your business. If you really want to know, why don't you go ask her yourself?"

"It's not that important," Addison replied and shrugged.

"Didn't think so, and I know it's just the alcohol making you ask that question because I doubt you'd talk to me about this if you were sober."

On the other side of the room Arizona was having a heated debate over which interns were sleeping with each other and caught a glimpse of Callie standing by the bar with Addison. She decided she was finished with her conversation and that it was now officially time to dance.

She walked up to Callie and Addison and set her now empty glass down on the bar top. "Hey guys," she said.

"Come with me," Callie grabbed Arizona's hand right away and led her out into the big open space that people left in the bar for dancing.

Addison watched them walk away and just sighed and rolled her eyes. "I'll be fine here guys, really. You go have fun," she said to herself sarcastically and wandered back to the corner where Derek and Teddy were still sitting.

There were only a few people dancing and at that point everyone had consumed more then a few drinks and didn't care what they looked like. Callie put her hands on Arizona's hips and they started to sway to the music. They were laughing and smiling and in that moment nothing else mattered but the two of them. It was fun and carefree and that's all they wanted that night, for things to be simple and enjoyable and they were.

"You're the best dance partner," Callie said when the music changed to a slower song.

"You're not so bad yourself," Arizona said.

They were dancing so close to each other now that there was practically no space between them. "What do you say we get out of here soon?" Callie asked.

"I think that's a great idea," Arizona replied.

Callie looked over her shoulder at their friends. "Should we say goodbye to them?"

Arizona reached up and cupped Callie's face, making her turn around. She immediately claimed Callie's lips and kissed her hard. When air became a necessity, Callie pulled back and just stared at Arizona. She was normally the one to be so assertive with their kisses so it was welcomed surprise.

"I-I'll take that as a no then…" Callie said.

"Take me home Calliope."

It didn't take long for them to gather their belongings and make it home. Callie had Arizona pressed against the elevator wall during the ride up to their floor and she wasn't sure if they'd even make it to their apartment. At that point she didn't care. It was going to be another long night but both women knew it would be completely worth it. What a difference a day makes.
