AN: So... I'm really, really, really sorry about the delay in updating this story. I've been busy and honestly got a little tired of how the last few episodes of the show have played out and it made me not want to write this story. But I'm back now and hopefully I can continue without anymore delays or long absences. I don't really know if I'm happy with how this turned out but here it is!
When Kris woke up the next morning, she lay on her back staring up at the ceiling. Today was the day that her sister would finally marry Richard Castle. Kris remembered the first day her sister met the writer, and how much she claimed to hate him. She knew her sister had always loved the writer's work, especially after their mother's murder. It was one of the few things that kept Kate going back then. She knew Kate was excited to be around the writer every day, even if Kate would never admit it out loud.
Kris liked Castle from the moment they met and they quickly established a brother/sister bond from the get go. They always gave each other a hard time but as the years went on, they both became very protective of the other. Castle had saved Kris from many potentially hazardous dates with his nit picking. Kris was always sure that her sister and the writer would end up together and was extremely relieved when that day finally came.
Now, here she was about to crawl out of bed to get ready for their wedding. She would never admit it, but Kris was bursting with pride on the inside for her sister. She always looked up to Kate growing up, especially when Kate became a cop. Kris knew that she wanted to do something with her life to help people, like Kate had. To help bring justice to victims and their families, something that took far too long for her and Kate to get for their mother.
Getting out of bed, Kris pulled on an Iron Man hoodie and sweat pants then headed out of her room to go find Kate. Knowing her sister, Kris knew that Kate had most likely been up for hours already. When she entered the kitchen downstairs, she wasn't surprised to find Kate already there drinking a cup of coffee.
"You're up early." Kate said when she caught sight of her sister.
"Yeah, well I didn't want to be rushing to get ready later when all the chaos breaks loose." Kris shrugged as she grabbed a cup from the cabinet and poured her own coffee.
"Good idea. You have no idea how long it takes Lanie to get ready." Kate smirked.
"So, you nervous?" Kris eyed her sister as she added sugar and creamer to her cup.
"Ya know, I thought I would be. You know how much I hate being the center of attention." Kate smiled. "But I'm not the least bit nervous or scared. Marrying Castle... it feels like coming home. Like the most natural thing in the world."
"You're gonna give me a cavity with all that sweet bullshit." Kris laughed.
"You'll find out what I mean someday." Kate shrugged at her sister.
"Yeah, I highly doubt that." Kris said as she sipped her coffee.
"You know I always said the same thing but here we are." Kate smirked.
"That was just a fluke. One time thing." Kris smirked back.
"So, you really want my apartment?" Kate said as she refilled her empty coffee cup.
"Hell yes!" Kris blurted loudly. "That place is freaking amazing and ten times bigger than that shoe box I live in."
"Well good because Castle bought it so now it's yours, rent free." Kate grinned when her sister's eyes widened to the size of saucers.
"Are you freaking kidding me?" Kris just stared.
"No, I'm serious." Kate laughed. "We both knew that it was pointless to give it up to someone else when you could have it."
"Holy shitballs." Kris whispered. "You guys are the best. Like ever."
Kris jumped up from her seat at the bar and crushed Kate into a hug. The two sisters held each other in silence for a few moments, before Kris finally released her older sister.
"Aww, ain't that just the sweetest thing I've ever seen." Lanie's voice came from behind them.
"I think she's in shock." Kate laughed. "I just told her about the apartment."
"Wait, you knew?" Kris rounded on Lanie.
"Of course I knew baby." Lanie smirked. "So, we ready to have a wedding today?"
"Oh yeah, she's already spouting sonnets and love poems." Kris threw a thumb over her shoulder at Kate.
"Ha ha, you're so funny." Kate ruffled Kris' hair like a child.
"I'm a freaking comedian." Kris smirked.
The three women discussed the upcoming events of the day while they drank coffee and snacked on fruit from the bowl on the counter. Martha and Alexis joined them a little while later.
"You heard from your dad this morning?" Kate asked the redhead.
"He texted me all night, wanting to make sure you didn't miss him too much." Alexis laughed.
"That man has such a complex." Kris rolled her eyes.
"He's already called once this morning to make sure you hadn't changed your mind and ran off screaming into the night." Alexis giggled as she munched on a grape.
"It's still not too late, ya know." Kris wiggled her eyebrows at her sister. "We can take off and go to Vegas."
"Or not!" Lanie interrupted. "I didn't diet for the last six months for it to all be for nothing."
"Damn." Kris grinned. "Ah well, don't say I didn't give you an out."
"Nothing could keep me from marrying Castle today." Kate smiled widely.
"Yep." Kris rubbed her jaw. "I just got another cavity."
"You're so stupid." Kate smacked her sister on the shoulder.
"You guys saw that right?" Kris eyed the other women. "Police brutality."
After laughing and talking for a few more minutes, the women broke off to start getting ready for the day ahead. Kris headed upstairs to shower and get dressed before helping Kate get ready. When she reached her room, she pulled her phone from the charger and saw a text from Russo.
I can't wait to see you today, beautiful.
Kris couldn't help smile at the text from her boyfriend. Never in a million years did she imagine that she would be this happy and in love, although she would rather endure Chinese water torture than admit it to Kate.
Can't wait to see you either, handsome. Kris texted back before laying her phone on the bed and heading to the shower.
When Kris emerged from the shower thirty minutes later, she saw she had three missed calls from one Richard Castle. Rolling her eyes, she toweled her hair dry and turned to walk back into the bathroom when the phone started going off. Huffing out an annoyed breath, Kris tossed the towel on the bed and grabbed the phone.
"What do ya want, writer monkey?" Kris answered.
"Well, good morning to you too Cricket." The writer's cheery voice came over the line.
"I'm trying to get ready for your wedding. What. Do. You. Want?" Kris snapped.
"How's your sister?" Castle replied, the nervousness evident in his voice.
"Last I checked, she was fine. Didn't have her running shoes on... yet." Kris snickered.
"Funny, Kris." Castle huffed. "She seem nervous or anything?"
"Surprisingly, no she seems perfectly fine. Keeps spouting off romantic shit about how she can't wait to marry you and blah blah blah." Kris said as she grabbed some underwear from her suitcase and pulled it on.
"Good." Castle replied happily. "I'm glad she has you, Cricket. I'm glad we both do."
"The world should be so lucky as to have me." Kris grinned. "Now hang up the phone and get ready, writer monkey. You're headin' to the chapel and you're gonna get married."
"Bye Kris. See ya soon." Castle chuckled as he ended the call.
"Weirdo." Kris smiled as she tossed the phone back onto the bed and went back to the bathroom to dry her hair.
After Kris fixed her hair and makeup, she pulled on a button up shirt and a pair of Batman boxers then headed down the hall to Kate's room. When she entered the room, Kate was sitting at the window looking out at the back of the house. Kris leaned up against the door and watched her sister closely before she finally broke the silence.
"Mom would have been so happy for this day." Kris said as she made her way toward Kate.
"I was just sitting here thinking about what she would have thought about all of this." Kate nodded toward the backyard, where the event staff was busy setting up chairs.
"She would have loved Castle." Kris sighed. "She would probably have bawled her eyes out right about now."
"I miss her so much." Kate smiled sadly as a tear slid down her cheek.
"I miss her too." Kris gave a weak smile. "But she's always with us."
Kris sat down beside her sister and wrapped her in a tight hug.
"Now, enough sadness." Kris wiped the tears from Kate's face. "You'll get all puffy and Martha will beat my ass."
Kate laughed loudly at her sister and hugged her again. The sisters finally stood up from the window and Kate noticed her sister's clothes.
"Nice outfit." Kate giggled as she took in her sisters Batman boxers.
"I thought so." Kris spun around like a runway model. "I'm not putting that damn dress on until I absolutely have to. Now, let's start getting you ready for this shindig."
Kate kissed her sister's cheek then sat down in the chair facing the mirror. Kris pulled out the curling iron from the bathroom, along with combs and hairspray while Kate applied her makeup. Once Kate was done, Kris turned some music on her phone and began combing out Kate's hair. Lanie walked in and almost started crying at the song that was playing.
"Are you serious?" Kate laughed when she figured out the song.
"Hey, I thought it was rather festive for the occasion." Kris smirked as she sang along to the words of Bon Jovi's 'Always' coming from her phone.
"That's just the perfect theme for the day." Lanie smiled, trying to hold back the tears of joy for her friend.
Kate just grinned at her sister in the mirror as she watched Kris concentrate on curling Kate's hair. She had decided to leave her hair down, knowing how wild it drove Castle when she put extra curl in it. Kris focused on what she called Kate's 'hair porn'. When Kris was finally done, Kate's hair was in loose curls down her back, with the sides pulled back and a few loose strands hanging around her face.
"Damn, I wish my hair would do that." Kris grumbled as she started spraying Kate's hair with hairspray.
"Here we go with the hair hate again." Kate grinned.
"Well, it's true. I did not get the Beckett hair porn gene." Kris replied with one last squirt of hairspray.
Kate just rolled her eyes at her sister as she took in herself in the mirror. Castle would definitely love her hair. Getting up from the chair, Kate made her way to the large walk-in closet and pulled out her wedding gown. It was ivory, strapless and flared out at the bottom. When Kate had tried it on in the store, she knew immediately that this would be the dress she married Castle in. She handed the dress to Kris, then stripped down to her underwear. Stepping carefully into the gown while Kris held it open, Kate couldn't help but imagine what it would be like when Castle took it off of her later that night.
"Hey, perv. Stop imagining Castle naked and get this thing on." Kris snapped.
Kate rolled her eyes at her sister as she pulled the gown up and turned around so Kris could zip the back, before Kris ran off to put her own dress on. When Kate caught sight of herself in the mirror, she couldn't help but let out a small gasp. The dress fit like a glove and was even more beautiful than she remembered. Martha and Alexis came in the room just in time to witness Kate turning around in front of the mirror.
"Damn." Kris looked at her sister when she returned a few minutes later. "Castle is going to flip his shit when he sees you. I'll be surprised if he doesn't have a coronary right there at the alter."
"He's definitely going to lose it." Lanie agreed as she smiled at Kate.
"Oh, Katherine. You look absolutely stunning." Martha said as she gave her soon to be daughter-in-law a hug, careful to avoid messing up Kate's hair.
"I can't believe I'm finally marrying him." Kate stood in awe as she continued to look in the mirror. "I never thought we would get here."
"I knew you would the day you called to tell me about him." Kris smirked as Lanie shook her head in agreement.
"Dad will be speechless when he sees you, Kate." Alexis smiled widely at the woman who would shortly become her step-mother.
"Thank you, Alexis. Thank all of you ladies for helping to make this day happen." Kate smiled as she fought to hold back her tears.
"Well sis, are you ready to do this thing?" Kris said as Kate turned to face her.
"Absolutely." Kate didn't even have to think about it.
"Well then. Let's go get you married."
