Chapter 35-The Choice
Pre-Chapter Notes-Ummm...soooo...I feel bad for saying this but thenextchapteristheendI'msosorry! There, I did it! I hope you enjoy this chapter 3!
Amaya's Point of View:
"To ask you a question first..." I said. He nodded and gestured for me to ask away. Taking another deep breath I readied myself. "You said that my existence will be completely erased from whichever place I don't choose if the will to remember isn't strong enough right?" He nodded again. "So, if I chose to stay here—no one would remember me there."
"That is correct, you'd either be a mere mirage or someone they've imagined all their own kind of like an imaginary friend" Vladimir explained. I nodded. That's not what I wanted; I've seen Madoka Magica and dammit that situation alone tore me to shreds! I didn't...want that empty feeling back home.
"An alternation between the two worlds is impossible" Lukas said. "Unless somehow the forces of both universes clashed with each other causing a rift—that's highly unlikely." I nodded.
"Is that all you wanted to know?" Arthur asked.
"Yeah...so I guess...Take me home" I said. They looked at me and suddenly the tension sky rocketed considerably. I was biting my lip hard and I hadn't managed to draw blood yet.
"Are you...completely sure that's what you want?" He asked me.
"Yes" I forced out. I had to say it...or else I'd end up changing my mind. I was sure, I was sure, I was sure! Repeating this in my head like a mantra I tried to keep from looking unsteady. Arthur let out a long sigh and nodded.
"You have 4 hours" Lukas said remaining indifferent. I was thankful for that. "Then we'll call you back and send you...to your world." I nodded and thanked them before leaving. When I started walking back to house I felt the tears trying to build and kept shaking my head. I opened the door and looked around. Azalea jumped off the couch and rubbed against my leg as if she was trying to comfort me. I let out a small mutter of 'thank you' as I sank down to the floor and pulled my knees to my chest, Azalea came over and curled up under my legs staring up at me. I heard footsteps and happy chattering and soon it came to a halt.
"What's the matter?!" They asked.
"I-I...made the decision" I forced out.
"And..." Gilbert asked. "Vhat did you chose..."
"I've got four hours..." Alfred pulled my hands away and pulled me into a hug.
"Four hours...to say goodbye?" Mathias asked. "You...you asked to go home!?"
"I had too!" I said shaking my head. "I don't belong here! It was my choice!"
"Can we all just calm down!" Alfred finally said. "It was her choice, and she's right...she's not from here, it's only fair she goes back home." I didn't want to say I was thankful for him saying that...but it made me feel a little better than before. "You've got four hours right? Let's try to act civil and spend our last few hours with her okay?" It was hurting him too. I felt horrible. A bitter feeling struck and I hugged him a little tighter. Alfred seemed to notice but helped me up.
"Ja...ve should at least make this an awesome parting!" Gilbert said grinning foolishly.
"Yeah" Mathias said. So we spent 20 minutes planning the rest of the day...I tried to bring happy thoughts to the equation but every time I just got even sadder. We decided to go to the shopping district and see what we could do there. I vaguely heard Gilbert talk about trolling more people and laughed. We headed out and there were a lot of people as usual.
"Alright, we'll see who trolls the best" Mathias said. "So whoever gets the best reaction wins!"
"Oh I'm going to win~" I challenged.
"As if!" Alfred declared. "I'm going to win~"
"Ve'll see, ready-set-GO!" Gilbert declared starting our battle. I looked around for anyone really...but I kind of wanted a guy for this one. I pray Alfred doesn't steal my idea! Mustering up all my courage I took a breath and started walking. I ended up behind Alfred and suddenly...I knew what I wanted to do. When he seemed to be relaxing I crept up behind him and deepened my voice a bit and then whispered;
"Hey how ya' doing little mama lemmie whisper in ya' ear, lemmie tell you somethin' that you might like to hear ya' got a sexy ass body and ya' ass looks soft~!" Before he could turn around I slipped into the crowd. He let out the cutest squeal I'd ever heard. I had to laugh but I tried not to until I was out of sight. When I found the water fountain (our meeting spot) I sat down and laughed until I couldn't any more. The boys joined me and were looking at me strangely.
"So who do you think got the best reaction?" Mathias asked smirking.
"I think I did~" I grinned.
"Who'd you troll?" Gilbert asked.
"Al" I snickered.
"Were you the person that whispered in my ear and grabbed my butt?!" Alfred asked jumping back from me. I was laughing so hard I nearly fell in the fountain. I nodded through my uncontrollable laughing. He was blushing horribly and I leaned up to kiss him.
"I'm sor-haha-sorry!" I giggled. "It's just, I couldn't resist! You looked so vulnerable!" I was continuing to laugh and Alfred's eyes narrowed and seemed unamused. That just made me laugh even harder. The boys joined in asking me just what the [and I quote!] 'godforsaken HELL' was going through my head whilst I did this. I explained everything and they all agreed it was pretty funny but, Mathias won our little game with a reaction he got from a girl. It was too great just hearing the story but when he creeped on her again it was pretty fucking hilarious. We went inside the mall and didn't really know what we were doing.
"Anywhere in particular you wanna go?" Alfred asked eating a big chocolate chip cookie he'd brought. I leaned over and took a small bite out of it and he tilted it more towards me so I could take a bigger bite if I wanted. I simply enjoyed eating it as the gang talked. I thought and looked around the mall. There's...no where I want to go here. If anything...I wanted to go back to the bounce house place! Just to act a fool one more time. I pitched this idea to them and they were more than happy to obliged with this idea. The drive there was full of utter nonsense. Nothing said was a long-term topic and we constantly shifted from random to random, it was hilarious all in itself to try to keep a conversation. I looked at my phone...2 hours left...I shook my head and didn't dwell on it. Alfred had fallen asleep with his head in my lap and I giggled softly running my fingers through his blond locks. Gilbert smirked before turning and taking a picture of us.
"Hey!" I whispered pouting.
"Vhat? It's such a cute moment~!" He said. "You guys are just adorable~!" I smiled with a short laugh and told him to shut up. When we arrived at the place we immediately set out to act a fool. While I was jumping around with quite a few other people and kids that decided to come today I fell and bounced up landing in Mathias's arms.
"Holy shit I actually caught you!" He said. "SWEET!"
"You idiot!" I laughed. "Put me down!"
"Alright~" He smirked dropping me. I bounced away and landed face first on the bouncy floor.
"JERK!" I called over to him.
"I LOVE YOU TOO!" He yelled back pushing Gilbert over. I laughed as Gil bounced into the wall of the bounce house and then into Alfred completely side sweeping him and knocking him over.
"What's the matter boys!?" I yelled. "Can't stand up!"
"Oh I'll show you standing up Frau!" Gilbert yelled throwing one of the inflated shapes at me that littered the floor. It hit me square in the arm and I stumbled back not falling over.
"YOU THROW LIKE A PRINCESS!" I yelled. He threw another one and it hit me in the head this time the force of it knocked me over. "NEVERMIND!" They laughed at me and didn't even bother helping me up! Those assholes! We ended up in the last room that had so many kinds of bounce houses compiled into one. There was a boxing ring and I ran over and jumped into it, bouncing up. "FIGHT ME AL!"
"Why?" He asked looking up at me and laughing.
"CAUSE I WANNA FIGHT YOU!" I said.
"No, I'm not hitting you Amaya" He laughed.
"What you scared~?" I asked.
"No I'm just worried my strength will hurt you" He said. I clenched and unclenched my fist inside the boxing gloves. I was blushing and pouting.
"Fight meeee! Stop being a boyfriend and start being my guy friend now!" I said. He sighed, defeated, and climbed into the ring with me. I laughed and threw the inflated boxing gloves at him [Er, tried—trying to pick them up with the damn gloves on was hard enough!] We looked at one another and I tried to pull a poker face but I ended up smiling. Alfred laughed and came at me. He was holding back with small punches here and there and I did the same. It was just fun like this. I spotted Gil and Mathias eating pizza and I flipped Alfred over. It was awesome! "Awww shit! Looks who's a ninja!" Alfred laughed and got up before pinning me to the floor of the ring.
"Think again~" He whispered in my ear. I blushed and shoved him off out of embarrassment. I picked up one of the inflatable shapes and throwing it at him.
"Ass!" I said. He laughed and leaned down to gently kiss my lips. I kissed him back and when we pulled apart we got out of the ring. We started talking about all kinds of things as we headed to where Math and Gil were sitting. They looked tired and that was funny. "What's the matter? Tired?"
"Nein!" Gilbert countered. "Just scheming vays to get you!"
"Meanie! Why am I the target of interest? Can't you target Math today?" I asked with a whine. Mathias looked at me with a face that basically said 'You bitch' and I choked on my pizza. Soon we left. They didn't tell me where we were going now and I'll admit I wanted to ask a million and one questions...but their faces suddenly became so serious...and they silently conveyed messages with just eye contact...this chilling atmosphere was...uncomfortable. I glanced out the window and noticed the scenery coming to a halt. Where the hell were we? They still didn't say anything and we all got out the car. The sun was just going into sun set...I'd never seen a sun set before...because when you live in a big city just finding one is hard enough. We all sat down, me in between Alfred's leg, Mathias on our right, and Gilbert on our left and just watched it set.
"So...uh I bet you're wondering why we're here huh?" Mathias finally said after a small silence.
"Yeah..." I murmured.
"It vas...vell just a fitting place to say goodbye to you, like in those cheesy movies you secretly like!" Gilbert teased. I let out a small laugh as Alfred's arms came around my waist. I looked up at him and he smiled down at me.
"Not just that idiot!" Alfred said elbowing him. I laughed.
"Well uh, we want you to know something" Mathias said. I looked at them and they looked back at me.
"We're not just going to let you fade from our memory" They said. "Even if we can't see, feel, touch, or hear you...we'll definitely remember you" They all said grinning at me.
"Why...?" I began.
"You're about us forgetting" Alfred said not looking me in the eye. "We could tell."
"Ah..." I wanted to tell him I wasn't worried at all about forgetting but the painful clench my heart did told me otherwise. Was I worried? I was so caught up in making sure everything would be fine for them...I didn't stop to think about the pain I'd endure...if they forgot me. But...I didn't care about it. If they forgot—they forgot. It had nothing to do with how I felt. Right? Right...? This detached feeling ached something awful..
"Hey" They called.
"H-Huh?" I asked snapping out of my thoughts.
"You've got that face again" Alfred sighed.
"Yeah, cheer up!" Mathias said.
"Because the last face ve vanna see you make better be smiling!" Gilbert said. I felt the corners of my mouth twitch as a small smile made its début. I laughed as they cheered loudly. Then...as if to break this moment...my cell phone rang.
"It's time" Came Lukas's voice. I nodded...the feeling struck again and this time...I knew there'd be no smiling. "Are you ready?"
"Yeah...we'll be there in a few" I said feeling the break in my words. "See you...soon."
"I guess...it's time huh?" They asked.
"Yeah..." I smiled as I turned to them. "Don't look like that!" They jumped a little and I grabbed their hands. "Just...keep that promise and don't forget me!" This happiness felt bitter, false, but it...it was real and that's what scared me a bit inside. When we piled back into the car and drove to Arthur's...no one said a word. Azalea snuggled into my lap [They'd gone and brought her along without telling me! How strange?] and I stroked her fur. When we arrived and set out for the basement...Arthur, Lukas, and Vladimir stood waiting, they didn't seem to be in a rush at all...I turned and stood in the middle of the circle. "So...I guess this is goodbye then!"
"Goodbye" Arthur said giving me a sad smile. "It was fun love."
"Hn..." Lukas said. He stretched out his hand and ruffled my hair a bit causing me to giggle.
"Nice knowin' ya' kid!" Vladimir teased. "Do me a favor and get shorter! You're almost my height!" I smiled. Gilbert then walked over and gently kissed my forehead.
"Hope you don't forget the awesome me! It vould really suck if you didn't remember all the fun ve had together!" He said. I nodded. Mathias came next and gave me a really big hug.
"Every time you sneeze that means I'm thinking of ya'!" He said proudly. "The king's gonna keep your memory alive!" I laughed at this. Finally...Alfred walked over and gently kissed my lips.
"Hah...it's hard to say goodbye but I'm not gonna be special here—Eat lots of hamburgers and play lots of games! Life is better that way and...I love you lots!" He said grinning foolishly. I felt the tears finally coming to my eyes as I smiled and waved at them. The circle began to glow and I felt like I was being pulled away. Waving, I saw them all begin frowning. I smiled and reached both my hands out to them.
"Goodbye everyone!" I said happily with a sniffle. "I'll miss you all!"
Goodbye...Forever...
