She was stubborn. Just like her parents. Stubborn and hell-bent on making this difficult. "Gemma, you have to go to sleep. Please, for Mommy."
"Ma!" Gemma was wide awake, nowhere near sleep. Lily rolled her eyes and stood up. She put Gemma in her jumper.
"Okay. Mommy is going to go downstairs and make coffee. I'll be right back." She was getting really tired of being really tired. She barely even wore real clothes anymore. It was all sweatpants and sweatshirts for her. She went downstairs to the kitchen and put a pot of coffee on. She told herself it was good to be home. New Harmony was home, not Sioux Falls, not the Impala. This house was home. The knock on the door startled her. She sighed and made her way to the front door. She slung it open. Oh shit. "Officer, how can I help you?" Her smile was warm and inviting.
"I need to ask you a couple questions. Can you come downtown with me?"
She said no immediately. "My daughter is upstairs. But you're free to come inside and ask me anything, Officer...Kensington." She stepped aside and let him pass. "I just put a pot of coffee on. The living room is just through there. I'll go get Gemma so we can talk without interruption." Her smile was like honey to a bear.
Officer Dale Kensington always caught the bad guys. He was the most decorated cop in the seventy sixth precinct, and was only thirty-two. He was unmarried, no kids and an all around good guy. A modern day superhero. Lillian Fitzpatrick had a nice home, for a young woman of twenty seven who had no job to speak of and a child. Houses took money and so did children. The house was well-kept. There were pictures on the wall, mostly of a little girl. In the living room was a brown leather couch with a matching recliner and arm chair, a coffee table, rug, flat-screen TV that went over the mason fireplace and baby toys. Baby toys everywhere. There was a jumper, a playpen, a bouncer, and what looked like tens of toys. This woman lived to be a mother.
"Alright. Here we go. Two cups of coffee." Lily came into the living room. Officer Kensington looked at her, a brief smile on his lips. She was a looker alright. Her daughter was waddling beside her. Lily put the tray on the coffee table. "So the coffee is black, but I brought cream and sugar just in case. Gemma, no don't touch that." Lily's voice was strained as she startled the toddler, who was trying to pick up one of the coffee cups. Lily sighed and picked Gemma up. "You said something about questions."
Dale Kensington nodded. "Were you aware that Sam and Dean Winchester are alive?" Fuck me, she thought. This was not going to be good.
"Excuse me?" Her grip on Gemma became almost too tight. He repeated his question. Lily took a deep breath. "Yes. I was well aware. And before you ask, I will tell you whatever you want to know."
"I'm glad you took the easy way, Lily. How long have you known?" She said since everyone thought they were dead. He raised his brow.
"Please understand that I did what was in the best interest for everyone. I'm going to tell you what happened because you look a little lost." He nodded and told her to go ahead. "Detective Henriksen didn't like us. He hated us. My boys were framed for all that stuff they got arrested for. It was my idea...that night we were in the jail. When the helicopter blew up, it was my idea to tell people that they died in the explosion. And they went on the run. They had told me so many times that there were people who wanted to hurt them and would do anything to make sure the boys got hurt, or even killed. Sam tried so many times to get me to leave them, but love never gives up I guess. I finally talked them into letting me go with them. So we hid. Believe it or not, it was okay. Sam and I eloped a couple years back. I was pregnant with our second child."
Kensington glanced at the toddler. She was staring at him with bright green eyes, her brown hair flowing down her shoulders in loose curls. "Second child?"
Lily sucked on her bottom lip and put Gemma in the floor. "My first pregnancy was terminated against my will. There was a woman who was in love with Sam and Hell-bent on getting rid of me. She attacked me and left me for dead. I was unconscious for three days. I lost the baby. I lost Sam for a little while. But we ended up okay. My second pregnancy was different. We were so careful. Sam would barely let me leave the house."
Kensington looked at the file in his hand. "It says here that Dean Winchester was present while you were in labor. Where was your husband at the time of your daughter's birth?"
Lily closed her eyes. What the fuck was he doing here? "At the time, we thought Sam was dead. The people who were after them were back again. Sam left without a word when I was six months pregnant. He came back a few months ago."
"And then you're one big happy family again. Where is your husband now, Mrs. Winchester?"
The lie. Stick to the lie. You have to. It's the only way. Our only way out. This is the only way we can stay safe. The lie is what is going to keep us safe. It's going to keep Gemma safe. That's what matters. You lie to everyone and remember that I love you. That I love Gemma. And we are coming back for you.
"My husband and I have always had our disagreements, Officer Kensington. I loved him and he loved putting his dick in other women. We separated a few weeks ago. I couldn't tell you where he is. Or where Dean is."
"And it was your decision to move back to your childhood home?"
She said yes. "I loved New Harmony growing up. It's peaceful, it's happy. I want my daughter to grow up happy, like I did. Of course, I still love my husband like I always have. I hope we can work it out, for Gemma's sake."
He wrote something down in the file and looked back at her. "I think that's everything, Mrs. Winchester. If I have anything else, I'll make sure to call first before coming by." She said thank you and she appreciated his kindness.
"I'll show you to the door." She stood up and put Gemma in the playpen. "Mommy will be right back, princess." She kissed the top of her head and led Kensington to the front door. "Your coffee was alright, I hope?" He said it was perfect.
"Thank you, Lily. I hope your information helps our case."
She smiled again as she opened the door. "May I ask you a question, Officer Kensington?" He said of course. "After all this time, four years, why are you just now asking questions about my family?" Family. They were family.
"Your husband and his brother robbed the First Bank of Jericho this morning. We're trying to get all the information we can on them."
They robbed a bank? A damned bank. Not possible. "Oh. I just don't think that's possible, Officer." He stepped onto the front porch and she shut the door slowly. She watched him get in the police car and drive away. "Gemma! Mommy will be back in a minute! Hold on!" She ran up the stairs and dug through her underwear drawer. She picked a disposable cell and dialed the number.
"Lily? That you?" Oh God, his voice.
"Sam. Sam, what the fuck? You robbed a bank? What the hell were you thinking?" She shouted into the phone.
He took a deep breath on the other end of the phone. "We didn't rob that bank, Lil. I swear it wasn't us. The Leviathan. It's them."
"Well I've got cops asking questions about why the hell you two are alive all of a sudden and why you're robbing banks. I stuck to the story, Sam. But God, I can't do this. I miss you."
"I miss you too, babe. How's my little girl?"
Lily smiled into the phone. "She misses her daddy. She isn't sleeping well. But she's okay." Lily fell back onto the bed and sighed. "When can we see you again?"
He said he didn't know. "Maybe soon. We think...we think you could be some help with the Leviathans. You could get your friend to watch Gems, right?" She said yes. "Alright, well I gotta go babe. I'll see you soon. I love you."
"I love you too."

"You said your friend would watch her. What the hell are you doing, bringing her here?" Sam hissed at her. Lily didn't say anything. "There is a Leviathan downstairs, barely in those chains. What went through your brain?"
"She's safer with us than she is with a normal hunter. I cannot leave her while those monsters are running around." He said he understood. He understood perfectly.
"I'm sorry I yelled at you. I just...it's stressful here."
Lily looked back at Gemma. She was sitting with Dean on the couch. He was tickling her stomach, her giggles covering the room. "I want to talk to this Leviathan. Take me downstairs." Sam made a motion at Dean and his brother nodded. Sam led Dean down to the basement where Bobby had the Leviathan chained up.
"Lil, what are you doing here?" Bobby wiped the sweat off his forehead. She shrugged and bound down the stairs.
She reached out and pushed the monsters' head to the side. "Disgusting. What name do you go by?"
He tried to spit on her but she curled her hand around his throat. "Chet." He growled. She nodded.
"Well, Chet. You just met your worst nightmare." He let out a strangled laugh. "Bobby, Sam, I got this. Go upstairs." Sam looked like he was going to put up a fight but Bobby hauled him up the stairs.
"Little girl, you can't do anything to hurt me. Demon whores got nothing on us."
Her smile was sickening. "I think it's cute how you believe I'm a demon. I guess the black eyes will do that. But the wings. Damn, the wings are something."
"Wings?" She nodded. She pulled a chair up and sat in front of him. "What are you then?"
"The best of both worlds, bitch. Now, we need to have a chat, alright?" The Leviathan swallowed. It took a lot to scare the old ones. If he ever got out of here, he needed to have a chat with the big guys. "You xeroxed my boys. How?" He said it was easy to get a hold of DNA. "Okay. Why?"
"I can't let all the company secrets out. Not to...whatever the hell you are."
She smiled at him again. "You really want to know about me? What I'm made of?" He said absolutely. "I can't let all of the company secrets out, can I?"
He smiled. "I like you, kid. It's a shame you're going to die later in the game."
"Damn shame." She agreed, not agreeing in the least bit.

"What all did you and Rocky talk about down there?" Bobby asked, bouncing Gemma on his knee. She said it didn't matter. "The boys should be back soon. Hopefully."
"Go try a few new tricks on old Chet down there. He'll start talking soon." Lily told him.
Bobby raised his eyebrows. "And if he don't and he gets loose?" She didn't say anything. "I'll be downstairs then." He stood up and handed Gemma to her mother. Bobby disappeared down the stairs. Soon enough, Lily heard the familiar cock of a shotgun.
"Nap?" Gemma asked.
"Nap." Lily agreed. She took Gemma to the air mattress they shared with Sam and covered her up with the blankets. "Go to sleep. Mommy's going to go check on your Boppy." Gemma's eyes fluttered shut and Lily left her there. She went downstairs to the basement. Bobby was holding a shotgun and Chet was still tied up, three bullet holes in him. Black liquid was seeping out of the holes. "How disgusting." Lily shook her head. "Anything?" She asked Bobby.
He said no. "You know, old man, when this spell wears off and I break these chains, I'm gonna eat you. And I'm gonna savor every bite." Chet spit on the floor. Bobby tossed the shotgun to the floor and picked up the machete. He swung, Chet's head sliding off his shoulders.
"Ain't that a pretty sight?" Bobby asked Lily. Her face was splattered with blood but she grinned. "Let's go get a drink, kid." Bobby told her. They went up to the small kitchen. Bobby pulled a bottle from a brown bag.
"The good stuff." Lily nodded. Bobby was about to open the bottle when there was a knock on the door. It wasn't the boys' knock. Bobby handed her the bottle and grabbed his gun. He looked through the peephole and threw open the door. "Officer Mills." Lily said in a relieved tone.
Jody Mills walked through the door and Bobby shut it behind her. Bobby asked her how she found them. "I'm a cop, Singer. If I wanna find you, I'm gonna find you." He shrugged. "I was gonna bring you a card for saving my life, but they just don't sell any good enough." She put her six-pack of beer and the bag on the table. "How are you all holding up?" She asked Lily.
She shrugged. "Gemma's okay so I guess we're good. But she's asleep and it's been Hell trying to get her down so please be quiet." Jody said of course.
"We got a big one in the basement so don't go down there." Bobby told her. Jody nodded.
"How about I make you some food? I know none of you have been eating well and it's the least I can do." Jody offered. Bobby shrugged and said she could if she wanted to.
"I'm gonna go check on our friend in the basement." Bobby announced, Lily said she'd go with him. When they got to the basement, Lily groaned.
"You didn't think it'd be easy, did you?" Chet grinned, head attached to shoulders. Bobby went to pick up the machete but Lily beat him to it. She inspected the knife carefully before slicing Chet's head off again.
"Do us all a favor and stay dead this time." Lily hissed.

"Gemma, eat." Lily ordered. "Mommy needs you to eat, princess. You haven't eaten well since Daddy left. Please eat." Lily groaned. Her phone began to ring. Sam. She answered. "Are you okay?" She asked immediately.
"Yeah. I'm good. We're good. On our way to Iowa." She asked him why Iowa. "Our twins are hitting up every town we've ever worked a case in since I left Stanford. And Ankeny, Iowa is next. How's Gemma?"
Stubborn as hell, she wanted to say. "She's okay. I'm trying to get her to eat but she won't. She misses you. I miss you." She whispered. She knew he was smiling. She felt it.
"I miss you too. Hey, how about when I get back, we work on giving Gemma a brother or sister?" Lily swallowed. Tell him, tell him, tell him.
"Lil! It's Dean. Tell my little princess her Uncle Dean misses her more than anything." Thank God for Dean. Always there to save the day.
"I will. I have to go. We've got a live one in the basement and I'm really trying to do a number on him. I'll see you boys when you get home." She said quickly. Dean told her bye, leaving the line open for Sam.
"I love you, Lil." Sam said softly.
"Yeah, love you." She hung up. Gemma stared at her, green eyes wide. "You like being an only child, don't you? I don't think you would enjoy having a little brother or sister." Lily sighed. Gemma reached for the fork in her mother's hand. "You don't get a say in it anyways. Because even if you did want one, you aren't getting one. You can't. I can't."
"Food?" Gemma asked. Lily smiled and nodded. She was about to put the bowl of macaroni and cheese on the high chair tray when someone in the basement screamed. Lily kissed the top of Gemma's forehead before running to the basement.
Bobby was okay. He was watching Chet scream. "Get it off! Get it off me!" Chet screamed.
Bobby and Lily looked at each other. "What did you do?" She whispered. He said he didn't do anything. Chet's arm was black, burning and so was his face. Bobby dismissed himself and went upstairs, leaving Lily with Chet. The corner of her lips were turning into a smile. "Isn't this exciting?"
Bobby came back downstairs. He leaned in towards her ear. "Cleaning supplies." He whispered. The smile on her face got bigger.
"You got a little lipstick on your face, old man." Lily murmured.

"Dean? Where the hell are you?" Bobby hissed into the phone. Lily looked up. "Fine. I'm on my way." She frowned. "I understand. But there's a chemical that slows 'em down. Sodium borate. It's in industrial cleaners. Get the strongest one you can find and douse 'em in it. Then cut the head off. And keep the damned head and body separate." Bobby sighed as the line went dead.
"What happened?" Lily asked him. Bobby said the police picked the boys up. She groaned. "If they're arrested, the Leviathan can get as close as they want." She told Bobby. He nodded. "So we hope for the best."

"Mrs. Winchester, this is Officer Kensington. We spoke a few days ago. I noticed you weren't at home and..." He trailed off.
"I left. It was easier to get away from there than to stay. You called for a reason. So what is it?" She asked him.
He took a deep breath. "Your husband is dead. And his brother. They were arrested in Ankeny, Iowa and shot to death by the sheriff. They've been cremated. I'm sorry for your loss." He hung up.
Lily looked at Gemma. "Daddy's coming home, princess." She smiled. Gemma laughed at her mother.
"Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think he is." Dean? He was standing in the doorway. Lily stood up. She embraced him in a bone-crushing hug.
"Where is he? Is he okay?" She whispered.
Dean shrugged. "He walked away, Lil. He's pissed because I killed a monster. I don't know where he is or what he wants to do but...I don't know if he's coming back or not."
Lily looked down at Gemma. "Well, that isn't our problem, is it?" Gemma was the problem. Well, her powers were the problem. Protecting her was the problem. She didn't have time for Sam's bullshit anymore. Protecting Gemma was a full-time job.
He always did this. He always left, always abandoned her. She was sure she fell in love with the wrong brother.
