"Hi" Sara said smiling a weary smile.
"Cry?"
"I'm not gonna. I miss you already."
"Hey, I'm in my hotel."
"Good. I've gotta share a room with one of Nick's sisters. God I wanna kiss you so bad right now."
Grissom smiled and Sara giggled.
"It's already 8?"
"I guess. Its 1 am here."
"I'm tired."
"So am I."
Sara grabbed her laptop and flipped the key board to make it a tablet. Carefully she placed the tablet next to her pillow and smiled.
"I'm gonna change and you and I will fall asleep together, in our own way."
"Alright, I'll change too."
They both moved from their computers and changed before climbing into bed.
Sara smiled at Grissom and closed her eyes.
"How was your day," he asked watching her.
"Tiring and full of anxiety."
"My poor baby."
Sara smiled and stuck her tongue at him. Slowly they both started to drift to sleep. When Nick came to check on Sara he found her asleep, he saw her laptop next to her and picked it up.
"Griss, you up man?"
"Kinda."
Nick went out to the hall and closed the door behind him.
"She's gonna be alright, right," Nick asked.
"Just keep her busy."
"I will. Go catch some z's."
"Thanks Nick. Good night."
Grissom hit end and fell back into his bed falling asleep almost instantly. Nick closed Sara's laptop and placed it back in the bed room.
"Nick."
Sara sounded scared. Nick moved towards Sara and saw the tears in her eyes.
"Whats wrong?"
Sara sat up and looked at Nick.
"I can't sleep..."
"Wanna lay in my room."
Sara nodded as she let a few tears slip from her eyes.
"Come on."
Nick picked Sara up like a little kid and carried her into his room. She took instantly to where she slept in Grissoms bed.
"You want me to sleep down stairs?"
She shook her head as she took a deep wif of Grissom's sweatshirt.
"Are you hot?"
"Kinda."
Nick turned up the AC to make the room colder. He changed quickly and hopped into bed next to Sara.
"I miss my boyfriend," Sara said, scaring Nick.
He turned over and held Sara in his arms.
"Pretend I'm him."
Sara smiled and closed her eyes, picturing she was in Grissom's room and that the arms around her weren't Nicks but Grissom. She fell asleep quickly knowing she was in good arms.
Through the night, Sara had some nightmares. But everytime it would get to the point where she was shaking, Nick would hold her until she calmed down. She needed Grissom.
That morning, Sara was awake before Nick. It was only 7:45 but Sara knew she had to get up. It was summer, and summer meant keeping in shape. She quickly found Nick's house keys before going into her 'room' and changing into a nice gym outfit. She wrote a note for Nick explaining she'd be back and went on her way.
Nick woke up an hour later to his mom freaking out.
"Nick, Nick where's Sara?!"
"Huh," he asked wearily.
"Sara's gone!"
That woke him up. He jumped out of bed and raced around his room.
"My house key's are gone."
"The door was locked when I woke up."
Nick moved to his desk and found Sara's note.
"Alright, I'm gonna call in a favor. She's fine mom."
"Well, where the hell is she?!"
"She went running, part of her summer fitness. Her note says that if she isn't back by 9 not to worry. She stopped to see some old friends."
"Mr. Smith," Sara said jogging into the 7-11.
"Sara," he replied, his accent strong and Brittish, "Long time no see! Where ya been?"
"Welp, not in the hospital with your wife."
"Thank god. How ya been?"
"Better than ever now that I have a perminant family."
"That's terrific! Mrs. Smith sure has missed seeing ya."
"Well I miss her too. I just stopping in for a water," Sara said moving to the back of the store.
"Take it, on me."
"You sure John?"
"Of course Sara. I'll let the Misses know you stopped by!"
"Thanks, see ya later Mr. Smith."
"Geronimo Ms. Sidle."
Sara smiled as she started to drink the water and as she saw Jim Brass pull up.
"Sara, you texted?"
"Need a ride back home. I've been running for the past hour."
"Gil's house?"
"No, Nick's."
Sara hopped into the passenger seat and buckled up.
"Care to explain," he asked.
"Grissom's in London doing research with world renown scientists."
Brass gave her a surprised look.
"He never told you?"
"No!"
"Well now ya know. So I'm here until Nick and his family go to Texas and then all summer I'll be there."
"Well, that sounds fun. How are you dealing with Gil's absence?"
"So far, only a few night terrors."
"That's good. Have you talked to him yet today?"
"Nah. I woke up and went for my run."
They went on until the arrived back at Nick's house.
"Thank's Jim!"
"Anytime Sara."
"Tomorrow?"
"Same time same place?"
"More or less same time. But definatly same place."
"Alrighr, see ya kid."
"See ya."
Sara downed the rest of her bottle and checked her phone.
A text from Nick and a text from Grissom.
She unlocked the door and was greeted by Nick and his mom.
"Sara you had me worried sick!"
"Sorry Mrs. Stokes. I've done this every summer for the last 3 years."
"Since you moved here?"
"My parents didn't care."
"How'd you get home?"
"Normally, I'd do a slow jog home but I was tired and hungry today so I texted a friend and he drove me home."
"You have a friend who can drive?"
"He's much older than me."
"Jim," Nick asked confused.
"Yeah! Grissom had him pick me up last year when I walked out and wasn't home for a while. He's like a father to me."
"It would've been nice to know that you did this."
"Sorry, can I go now. I need to shower."
Sara smiled and was up the stairs.
"Nick..."
"She's fine, Ma. She just needs to keep her mind off Grissom."
Mrs. Stokes sighed and went off to the kitchen to make her family breakfast.
