Chapter 38: Inhumane
Naruto's pov:
The walk was slow, the man was swaying and my anger was growing. I was beginning to feel the nagging sensation of impatience. Sasuke was by no means ready to be on his own yet, there was still so much he did not know and still so much he feared much like all of us. However, in a group, we're strong. We have no reason to feel fear for the undead as we move in a pact but Sasuke clearly did not feel that way. For him to leave us behind, he must have not trusted in our abilities to help him find his brother nor did he believe in out abilities to protect one another.
I clenched my fists at the mere thought of the stupidities that went through his head when he decided to look for his brother on his own. I knew that his intentions were pure but they were not the smartest nonetheless. Suddenly I was ripped out of my thoughts when the man fell face first onto the floor with a pathetic groan of pain, his face pale and his skin drenched. Sakura was immediately by his side, turning him over to check the wound on his head. She checked him out carefully, inspecting his wound with cautious eyes.
She looked at me with those worried green eyes and told me, "He got a blow to his head, we need to let him rest for a little while or he might not get better." I glared at her fiercely, silently asking her to ask me if I gave a shit about his well being when someone who is far more important is helpless and all alone in a world where killing monsters roam free.
"Does it look like I fucking care? He's the only one who knows where Sasuke is." I spat bitterly, glaring down at the unconscious man and the angry looking girl. I took a step back as she shot up, her fists clenched tightly and her green eyes burning with spite and angry tears.
"I know your upset but I'd rather get information from a conscious man then from a dead one but if you can't get that through your thick skull then forget about finding Sasuke. He isn't a baby, he can take care of himself for a little longer." She snapped quickly and I looked down, not bothering to take her words in count. My mind was firmly clouded by thoughts of losing my Sasuke to those fuckers, I could not use proper logic with my mind in a hazardous mess. Everything was hazy as I tried to piece up the reasons and tried to understand what I had done to push Sasuke to do this. I felt like it was my fault. I was suppose to protect him in this hellish world but he seemingly didn't believe I could. Everything in me wanted to find Sasuke as quick as possible. Something in the pit of my stomach told me something was terribly wrong.
"I fucking know that, okay. I just have a bad feeling...I need to find him." I said weakly, I almost didn't recognize the weakness in my voice. I racked a hand through my hair, plopping myself down on the ground with a defeat that I have never felt before. The one person who knew where Sasuke was is unconscious. If he didn't wake up, I would never be able to find the only person who was able to warm up my frozen heart.
She crouched in front of me, a sympathetic look in her eyes. She rested a comforting hand on my knee and said in a gentle voice, "Sasuke is a big boy, Naruto. He may be fragile but he won't go down easy. We'll find him, you should not worry." But somehow those words did not put me at ease. I knew all that, I knew Sasuke was not weak but I had a terrible feeling boiling in the pit of my stomach that could only mean bad news.
The man was resting beside us, his face pale and dripping in a cold sweat. I glanced at him in disgust, he looked terrible and I could not feel a shred of remorse for him because I knew that he had something to do with the kidnapping of Sasuke. Sakura had noticed my glances and immediately tended to the man once again, wrapping her fingers in his hair. He looked as if he was going to turn into one of those undead. The pink haired girl was skimming the plains of his skulls with nimble hands. She turned to look at me, her eyes full of relief.
"He'll be fine, just some water and he'll be fine. The injury is not very serious, I just need to wrap it up." She explained as she ripped the bottom of her shirt, she grabbed the makeshift bandage and wrapped it around the wounded head of the semi-unconscious man who was groaning in what looked like discomfort rather then pain. She tied it tightly, before dusting off her hands and getting up. I looked at her in confusion. The pink haired girl shot me a small smile, her green eyes soft despite our disagreements.
"I'll go look for some water. There must be a small ravine around here somewhere." She said tremulously, her eyes darting from side to side, searching for any undead. She was obviously scared of going alone, who wouldn't be? I sighed and groaned out, "It's alright, you stay with him I'll go." I feared that if I stayed alone with him I'd murder him unconsciously so I got up and opened his rucksack to pull out an empty plastic bottle that would be useful.
I turned away from Sakura, who had no protest, and the semi-unconscious man who was finally still. I scoffed and walked away with the bottle clenched tightly in my hand, the plastic crunching in my grasp. I walked along the road, listening carefully for the sound of water when I noticed a zombie stuck in a tree branch. It seemed like the undead walked into the pointy part of the branch, the decomposing flesh gave into the penetration, allowing the branch to rip through his stomach all the way through his back. I scoffed in disgust at the sight of his bleeding guts hanging on the tree branch through his back. I shook my head and moved on, there was no time to look at atrocities.
The wrecks and lack of human life reminded me that humanity was undeniably losing it's battle versus the undead that were dominating with their superior ability to go on without sleep or water; two absolutely necessities for the survival everything living. That's what sets us apart from them, they were the incarnation of the monster we were set out to be. They had no feelings and didn't care who they were killing, they simply abide by their hunger much like mankind abides by their thirst for money. Humans wouldn't care who they were hurting just as long as they got the money they so desperately thought they needed.
It took me what felt like thirty minutes until I found a small puddle of water along the road, it was dirty and disgusting but it was the only thing I could find so I scooped it into the plastic water bottle and twisted the cap back on, securing the dirty liquid inside. It had to do for now, there was no way I'd walk the extra mile for someone who potential put Sasuke at risk. For that man's sake, hopefully Sakura could make this drinkable because it looked far from it in it's current state. With a groan I made my way back, passing the penetrated biter on my way. It was now slouched and but still snapping it's jaws eagerly, awaiting the next opportunity to sink it's infectious teeth into the heated human flesh.
When I got back, Sakura was resting against a tree with her head drooped and her hands crossed neatly on her lap. She was sleeping recklessly, it made me wonder if she'd ever survive outside of the compound she was lucky to be sheltered in. I crouched in front of her and threw the water bottle on her lap, startling her awake. She glared at me for scaring her before picking up the bottle and snarling.
"What kind of water did you get?! This is putrid!" She said tightly as she pinched her nose in disgust.
"I got the only water I could find. Be happy." I snorted, plopping myself on the ground. The man looked much more coloured, his cheeks holding a little more pink. He was breathing in small puffs, his face peaceful. A peace he did not deserve until he tells me about Sasuke's whereabouts. Sakura inspected the bottle of water swimming with dirt and small specks of dust, her face contorted in a grimace. I glared growling at how picky she was, this was the end of the world there is no pristine pure fresh water anywhere in sight. You had to be lucky to get filtered water but this vile human deserved clean water? No way in hell. I stood up quickly.
I ripped the bottle from her hand in anger causing her to squeak but I did not care, my patience was wearing thin. I roughly grabbed the man by the back of his neck, prying his mouth open and forcing the dirty water down his throat. He began to gargle and cough, the liquid spilling from the corners of his mouth but I didn't care. I forced it down his throat until it was all gone and his mouth was full of grim and dirt. He flailed his arms, turning his head to the side and puking on the dirty ground. I dropped his miserable self onto his own puke and stared down at him with pure hatred.
"All better?" I spewed, ignoring Sakura's glare that were zoned on the back of my head but I did not care. I was beyond angry and completely beyond reasoning it. I did not know where Sasuke is, there is flesh eating mindless dead walking around, a lying son of a bitch who is the only one who knows where Sasuke was kidnapped to but refuses to talk and Sakura expects me to be kind? If I could, I'd ditch her here and now but I know that Sasuke would not be pleased
"Yo-You ass-asshole.." The man chocked, looking very much alive and well. It pissed me off even more, he wasted my time while Sasuke's life is probably ticking away. I grabbed him by the collar of his shirt, pulling him up and off the ground. He scrunched his face up in discomfort, his face turning slowly red as he chocked on my grip.
"You are well enough now, aren't you? I want to know the location of the boy your buddies kidnapped?" I interrogated him furiously, shaking him as he chocked on my hold. I didn't care as Sakura begged for me to let him go and I didn't care as the sound of undead approaching could be heard. He was mouthing words that he could not voice due to his lack of air so I loosened my grip slightly to be able to hear what the fucker had to say.
"H-He sh-should ha-have never go-gone this way...He'-He's probably d-dead by now." The man said through coughs, his face red and his eyes fierce but they did not scare me. I threw him on the ground and slammed my foot into his stomach. He arched up in pain, coughing loudly. I pulled back with a glare, setting my foot back down on the ground to continue my interrogation.
"That was not what I asked you. Answer the questioned." I ordered, he shivered and gave me a look of liquid hate. A smirk that pissed me off internally graced his features as he held his stomach with a shaking hand that did not match the confidence he showed on his ugly mug. He spat on the ground at my feet stubbornly, silently telling me that he would not be answering my questions anytime soon.
I lifted my leg and kicked him in his side, he cried out to the sky, his eyes widening and his mouth falling open to breathe. A hand weaved around my tense arms and green eyes appeared in my red vision. Her eyes only made me angrier since we did not feel the same about the situation.
"Stop this violence!" She cried out loudly, obviously unaware that the dead were surely on their way after all the racket we were causing. I pushed her off me causing her to squeak in shock, I shot her a fierce look and ignored her order that she so daringly tried to command me with. I gave her a look that silently dared her to interrupt me again. She seemed like she got the message as she buried her face in her hands and shielded her eyes.
"Now answer me. I asked you where Sasuke is?!" I demanded he answer me once more, gracing him with the repetition of my question but he paid no heed and continued to act out in favour of pissing me off.
"You know that fucking whore wouldn't even let me hav-have a taste." He spewed breathlessly and I snapped. I picking him up and threw him over my shoulder unceremoniously. I was tired and boiling with rage when the idea of bringing him to a certain place I had passed by. Sakura made no noise as she slowly picked the stuff up and followed me with heavy steps. I didn't care that she was upset about the situation, I wished she hadn't come with me.
"Let me go!" The man cried over and over again but I only listened to his command when I reached where I wanted to bring him. I felt a sick joy pool in my stomach as a look of terror crept up his face that paled significantly. He cringed as the gory undead growled at us, begging me to feed him his meal. I lifted the man by the collar of his shirt and approached him to the reaching arms of the impaled zombie. He was shaking and pale until he finally cracked when dirty fingers brushed against his arm.
"Okay! Okay! Please, I'll tell you where he is!" He cried out, tears of pure fear streaming down his face. I smirked bitterly, throwing him to the ground away from the zombie who chomped his teeth viciously.
"See, that wasn't so hard. Now tell me."
"I-It's...t-the establishment at the end of the road, you should make it there by nightfall...there should be a large wood fence around it...You can't miss it." He said between the many tears that streamed down his miserable.
I smirked until a hand grabbed my arm, it was Sakura. Her head turned down.
"You are nothing more then a monster like them."
SHORT CHAPTER I KNOW I'M SORRY BUT THINGS WILL REACH THEIR PEAK SOON AND JUST SAYING WE WILL BE LOSING SOMEONE!
There we go ._.
